Why do you think this though? The Sox didn't acquire all these young bullpen arms and put them on the 40 man so that they could pitch in Charlotte. Which of these guys won't be in the major league bullpen to start next year? Ian Hamilton, Jace Fry, Ryan Burr, Caleb Frare, Aaron Bummer, Juan Minaya, Jose Ruiz? That's 7 guys. It doesn't even include Jones, Vieira, Fulmer, Covey, etc. They may add some veteran relievers on minor league deals. I don't see them filling the bullpen with veteran FA signings though. They didn't acquire Burr, Frare, Ruiz and Vieira so that they could just discard them for veterans immediately.

I'm not just going to assume that a guy will be injured. If he's not traded this off-season then he'll be on the team and in the back end of the 2019 bullpen in some variety.
-
This is a very mature response.

I really don't understand the thought process of going after relievers. Nate Jones will be the veteran down in that bullpen. There are only so many spots and the Sox need to see which of the young guys will be here long-term. On the left side they have: Jace Fry, Aaron Bummer and Caleb Frare. Those guys should be given every opportunity to pitch in the big league bullpen next year without having to worry about beating out some veteran signing. I think Medeiros and Schryver could come quickly as well. Nice stable of high leverage lefties. From the right side: Nate Jones as I mentioned. Ian Hamilton, Ryan Burr, Thyago Vieira, Carson Fulmer, Jose Ruiz and Juan Minaya are all on the 40-man roster. This doesn't even include guys like Dylan Covey and Jordan Stephens that could end up in the bullpen. It also doesn't include Zack Burdi, Zack Thompson or Tyler Johnson. The Sox farm is loaded with relievers. They won't all pan out. Taking away innings from these guys in 2019 with veteran placeholders is the last thing the organization should do though.

Top White Sox Prospects by Position: Outfielders (The Besssss)

I would say Robert, Basabe, Gonzalez in that order. The others can't stay in CF IMO. -

My guess would be that Birmingham OF is Basabe, Gonzalez, Rutherford and Adolfo. Call and Booker in AAA. Basabe could even start in AAA possibly. Robert will be in W-S. Walker probably goes to Kannapolis -
Sox have "flexibility" to add "long term pieces"

The contract amount doesn't matter for players on revenue sharing payees that haven't exceeded the tax. If Abreu plays out next season with the Sox, he'll be eligible for a Qualifying Offer after 2019. If they offered him the QO (somewhere between $18-$20) and he turned it down, the Sox would get a draft pick after Competitive Balance Round B regardless of the contract he signs. -
When Yelich was Rutherford's age he was already making an impact in the big leagues....

2018-2019 Official NBA thread

They should probably start Parker at the 4 in Lauri's absence. Portis is a valuable bench piece. I'd start Carter and just bring Lopez off the bench but it probably doesn't matter this year anyway. -

No idea who they would be. They'll never win a title without hitting on high level free agents though. Forking over decent starter money for high level bench guys when you've prioritized the frontcourt with your two most recent 1st rounders doesn't make sense to me though. This team needs wing players. They might have the worst perimeter defense in the entire NBA this season. -

The Wolves really have no choice but to take the best deal they can get for Butler. They are a 5-8 seed in the West with him and he'll be gone after the season regardless. He's trying to force his way to a destination that is appealing due to the max deals. He can sign with Minnesota for 5 years and $190. If he were traded to another club right now, he could sign the same deal with that team. If he signs elsewhere as a free agent, I'm pretty sure the max is like 4 years and $140 million. I'm so glad that he's not the Bulls problem anymore. They were never paying him $230 million and traded him at the absolute right time. -

There is absolutely a question. He'll never be more than their #3 big. He will get paid like $12 million per year. The Bulls need to preserve cap space to make a run at max level free agents next summer. I doubt Portis get signed personally and I'd be very much in favor of trading him. -
I would probably non-tender Garcia because I don't believe he's worth $8 million. With that being said, I think he'll probably be back. Next year is his last year though and I wonder what they'd be looking for in trade discussions. Nobody was interested in trading for him last off-season and that was coming off his best year.

Zack Burdi Progress: Looking slower than pre-TJ

Completely agreed. -
Zack Burdi Progress: Looking slower than pre-TJ

I hated the Burdi pick. I'm never going to be on board with taking definite relievers in round 1. Just not valuable enough. With that being said, he's still one of the best relief pitching prospects in the minors. I'm curious to see how he does in the AFL. -
Top White Sox Prospects by Position: Third Base

There are some quality infielders available. I think Burger will be a part of the next playoff team though still. I believe quite in a bit in the makeup and work ethic of that kid. It might not be at 3B but I still feel comfortable thinking he'll make an impact. Lost development time is an issue though. -
Albert Almora was a 1 WAR player last year. He doesn't walk and had a wRC+ of 89. He was horrible in the 2nd half. I don't believe the White Sox with unearth a Kris Bryant but I think they've drafted players in recent years that will at least match the production of Schwarber/Almora/Happ. The Cubs needed to spend $$ to get over the top and the White Sox will need to do the same.
-
For sure. Do we know that Kyle Schwarber and Albert Almora are hits though? Tim Anderson isn't great but a 3 WAR SS with the 17th pick in the draft is a scouting win. The jury is out on Burger/Collins for sure. They have to hit on Madrigal and whoever goes #3 in 2019 though for sure. The Cubs won a World Series so it's tough to criticize but their drafts as a whole have been kind of rough honestly. In 2012, Almora and now David Bote are only real contributors. 2013 brought Kris Bryant and nothing else. In 2014, they took Kyle Schwarber and took Dylan Cease. In 2015 they took Happ.
-
No clue. Nick Hostetler has made 4 first rounders in 3 years. It's really too early to judge any of them. The picks also weren't in the top 5.
-
I think Parkins is excellent. Best talk show host in the city.
-
I mean they produced Chris Sale so absolutely.
-
Is it hahn, hostetler, renteria, the coaches, or all of them??
Y2Jimmy0 replied to whitesoxbrad's topic in Pale Hose Talk
What an absolute dumpster fire. My god. This thread is horrible. Longtime members and contributors get banned for deleting posts but some of these people get to post here? Woof. There needs to be a baseline entrance exam or something because what was once a destination for intelligent banter about my favorite baseball team has turned into a chorus of nonsense from the lowest denominator of fans. -
None, really. Danny Mendick, Zack Thompson, Ti'Quan Forbes I believe.
-
They are both pretty firmly top 20 prospects in a top 3 system. Not special but Stephens could definitely get picked by someone. Especially if being used out of the bullpen.
-
We'll see. Losing them for nothing when you have tons of roster space would be pretty foolish.
