  1. QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 01:44 PM) From the guys I could find any info on, they seem to be older prospects. Considering several were pitchers, they are probably guys who developed late and are just being discovered now. Also, for signings under $10,000 (which many of these older ones probably are) the money doesn't count against the bonus pool, so we could be out of money and still sign those guys. I'm going to create a post for FutureSox as soon as Badler's international review goes up
  2. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 11, 2018 -> 10:18 AM) The bullpen sucks. I'm not sure that actually qualifies as a hot take.
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 08:38 AM) Bulls basically locked up #7 last night. Need some luck for #6 They have to lose to Detroit though. If they beat Detroit and NY loses to Cleveland while Brooklyn loses to Boston, they are all tied at 28-54. If Bulls lose to Detroit and Sacramento beats Houston with all their guys resting then they tie for 6th.
  4. Apparently the Sox have some huge charity event tomorrow night so they can't play two tomorrow.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 8, 2018 -> 11:16 PM) Looks like Blake Hickman at W-S will be a reliever for now...interesting. His major league future, if he has one is in relief so it makes sense
  6. QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Mar 30, 2018 -> 09:55 AM) I'm proud of SoxTalk! I was expecting to see something like "do you think we can lock him up for 4 years at $40mm?" and drinking the Kool-Aid. I picked him as my surprise for the year, so I definitely am not harping on him. Hey look, if Joey Gallo can be considered an asset and if people like Chris Davis can take home nice paychecks, why can't Davidson? The problem is that he needs to walk more. Can he? Does something click? Cause if it does, he certainly can have a role on a playoff team. He has serious 40HR type power which doesn't just grow on trees. He's got an opportunity that he wouldn't be afforded on most MLB teams, so he needs to take advantage of it this year. It'll be fun to watch on games like yesterday, but frustrating when he goes 0-4 with 3k's and leaves bases loaded .... which we all know is coming. My hope is he can turn into a VERY nice bench piece on a World Series competing team. My ceiling is a 100 game, LF, 3B, DH, 1B. You can't compare Davidson to Joey Gallo though. Matt Davidson isn't Joey Gallo in his most wonderful dreams. Joey Gallo last year was a 3 WAR player. 123 wRC+, .364 wOBA, with 41 bombs. He had 196 strikeouts and 75 walks. Matt Davidson on the other hand was a negative WAR player last year. 83wRC+, .297 wOBA and 26 homers. Davidson struck out 165 times and walked 19 times. Davidson could be a bench option that faces LHP only at some point I think. Gallo is considered an asset because he's actually kind of good at baseball.

  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 01:09 PM) I learned that you can't lose competitive balance picks for qualified FAs (cardinals with Holland woulld have a comp pick be their pick normally they give up) and it made me hate comp balance picks even more. I actually learned this too while the site was down. It's pretty irritating. The Twins still have 3 selections before the one they forfeited to sign Lance Lynn. Teams like Sox and Phillies are really at a disadvantage. Philly had to forfeit the 3rd selection in the 2nd round to sign Santana and the 3rd selection in the 3rd round to sign Arrieta. The Twins and Brewers gave up their 3rd rounders for Lynn and Cain but still have their 1st, 2nd, and a competitive balance selection. It's insane
  9. Okay so the draft order is completely updated and ready at this point. It can be found here:https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/royals-tigers-have-largest-bonus-draft-allotments/. I will post the list up until White Sox 2nd pick. Cubs, Cubs, Cardinals, Rockies all get picks after round 2 for Arrieta, Davis, Lynn and Holland. They don't affect the White Sox 1st or 2nd pick. 1. Tigers 2. Giants 3. Phillies 4. White Sox 5. Reds 6. Mets 7. Padres 8. Braves 9. Athletics 10. Pirates 11. Orioles 12. Jays 13. Marlins 14. Mariners 15. Rangers 16. Rays 17. Angels 18. Royals 19. Twins 20. Twins 21. Brewers 22. Rockies 23. Yankees 24. Cubs 25. Diamondbacks 26. Red Sox 27. Nationals 28. Astros 29. Indians 30. Dodgers 31. Rays (Alex Cobb Comp) 32. Rays (Drew Rasmussen comp) 33. Royals (Lorenzo Cain) 34. Royals (Eric Hosmer Comp) 35. Indians (Carlos Santana Comp) 36. Pirates 37. Orioles 38. Padres 39. Diamondbacks 40. Royals 41. Indians 42. Rockies 43. Cardinals 2nd round 44. Tigers 45. Giants 46. White Sox
  10. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 1, 2018 -> 10:15 AM) Would you take all those guys over Gorman? Not necessarily. It's so early.
  11. I feel very comfortable with the pitching at the top. The Sox are guaranteed one of Hankins/Liberatore/McClanaan/Rolison at this point
  12. QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 28, 2018 -> 05:05 PM) I don't listen too sports radio (except for MLB radio) much anymore but turn it on on my way to see what the topics are. Someone asked a question to a Cubs front office person, I think Epstein about why baseball doesn't have someone like Steve Kerr in basketball speaking out against gun violence. Does the radio person not know about Steve Kerr's father? How many other people in sports have their father assassinated? How uninformed some of these "hosts" are has no end. I didn't listen to the whole thing so maybe they got more into it but comparing anyone else to Steve Kerr's situation is strange. Wasn't just Kerr. I listened to the segment and Parkins was right on. Popovich, SVG, Kerr, multiple NBA players have been openly discussing many of the issues in society. It's hasn't really been a thing in baseball. That's why they were asking. Parkins and Spiegel have spoken about Kerr's history in the past.
  13. I think they should let the team with the worst record have the #1 pick but 14th worst should pick 2nd, 2nd worst should pick 3rd, 13th worst should pick 4th etc. This would stop some of it IMO.
  14. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 28, 2018 -> 09:17 AM) That stupid 7 game win streak earlier in the season pisses me off even more now. It should. If they went even 4-3 in those games they'd have 17 wins right now and the #1 pick in the draft
  15. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Feb 28, 2018 -> 07:54 AM) So you're telling me the team has to be this bad for attendance to drop? Wow. They could be an 8-10 seed in the east and shoot back up in attendance again. Good choice by the FO to rebuild. Bulls are currently leading the league in attendance again
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 28, 2018 -> 07:03 AM) Isn't A. Thomas a huge favorite as the 2nd round pick? I hope so. I'm not sure they can push him there though.
  17. QUOTE (zisk @ Feb 27, 2018 -> 01:09 PM) 3 #1 picks in 2 years. 2 season ending injuries and a complete bust of a catcher. what a rebuild. It had to be said. Can you explain to me how the catcher is a complete bust?
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 21, 2018 -> 12:58 PM) I don't know what to make of VZ. Yes, rumors are scouts aren't keen on going (light way of putting they are worried about their lives), but when I looked at the signings last year, there were tons of VZ signings. You wouldn't be able to pick it out as different than any other country. I'm wondering if maybe what's happening is the VZ talent is so willing to leave they are coming cheap teams are taking more flyers from VZ with less scouting. For instance, Anthony Coronado from the white sox last year. He signed for 100k and was the only guy moved from DSL to AZL in season. SS Lenyn Sosa was signed for $350K out of Venezuela as well and went right to the AZL last year.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 20, 2018 -> 09:57 PM) I bought mlb.com so we better go .500. I like the projection in this thread. FYI: My radio listening tonight was JT The Brick. Oddly I gladly heard somebody supporting my controversial position AGAINST tanking. He was furious and said pretty much what gets me in trouble on here. He said owners like Cuban should give money back to the fans if they admit tanking or it is obvious. He said sports are in great danger if teams disrespect the sport by tanking. He ripped the Sixers and he ripped the Astros saying their organization should not deserve credit for building a winner. He said they built a winner by tanking and getting tons of draft picks. Finally he said he realized fans embraced tanking and it is very dangerous to the integrity of sports to build teams that way. He said as a kid if the Yankees stunk they stunk. They didn't tank. He's a Yankee fan. Not sure who he is but he sounds like an idiot
  20. I'm pretty confident in saying that the White Sox won't be forfeiting the 45th pick and $2 million in draft capital to sign Mike Moustakas.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 20, 2018 -> 08:34 AM) They’ll need the pen even more with Kopech and Hansen...to protect them as much as possible. I don't think we see Hansen this year and most of the bullpen will be traded by the time Kopech is in Chicago
  22. QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Feb 18, 2018 -> 11:32 PM) If anyone was wondering what we did with our remaining international money, we have signed 5 guys since the beginning of February that I think are all international amateurs. Jose Rodriguez SS 16 years old Johnabiell Laureano CF 17 years old Francisco Benitez RHP 17 years old Luis Rodriguez RHP 17 years old Jesus Rondon RHP 18 years old Interesting. White Sox only had $500K remaining.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 17, 2018 -> 11:14 PM) https://sports.yahoo.com/sources-padres-sig...-045527963.html $144 million...first $100+ mill deal in franchise history. $18 million aav, less than Carlos Santana at $20 million. Wil Myers at $83 million was record holder until Saturday. http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sports...0216-story.html He's actually getting a 5 years $105 million deal and then 3 player options totaling $39.
  24. Eric Hosmer signed an 8 year deal with the San Diego Padres. The Padres will forfeit their 3rd selection (2nd round) and the Royals get a comp pick after 1st round for losing Hosmer. Nothing below changes for White Sox. Moustakas, Holland, Arrieta, Cobb and Lynn are the remaining free agents with compensation attached 1. Tigers 2. Giants 3. Phillies 4. White Sox 5. Reds 6. Mets 7. Padres 8. Braves 9. Athletics 10. Pirates 11. Orioles 12. Jays 13. Marlins 14. Mariners 15. Rangers 16. Rays 17. Angels 18. Royals 19. Twins 20. Twins 21. Brewers 22. Rockies 23. Yankees 24. Cubs 25. Diamondbacks 26. Red Sox 27. Nationals 28. Astros 29. Indians 30. Dodgers 31. Rays (Alex Cobb) 32. Royals (Eric Hosmer) 33. Royals (Lorenzo Cain) 34. Royals (Mike Moustakas) 35. Rockies (Greg Holland) 36. Indians (Carlos Santana) Competitive Balance Round A 37. Pirates 38. Rays (Comp, failure to sign Rasmusses) 39. Orioles 40. Padres 41. Diamondbacks 42. Royals 43.
