QUOTE (WBWSF @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 03:42 PM) This could turn out to be the worse bullpen in the history of the franchise. Trading David Robertson was nuts. I think they've had worse bullpens in compete years honestly

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 02:17 PM) I think only one of Gomez and Rondon make it to start, and they let Infante start out again. Maybe. I believe Infante is older than both of those guys though as well. I guess that doesn't really matter though.

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 02:15 PM) I posted this elsewhere but interesting nonetheless, Baseball America said that Zevala was actually behind Collins in catching ability. Now that conflicts with Futuresox who said he's average, but fair to say that for as much as we talk about the work collins needs to do, so does Seby. Collins is also younger. Some similar stats this year though. Collins at High A: 130 wRC+, .367 wOBA Collins at AA: 166 wRC+, .414 wOBA 19 homers Zavala at A: 139 wRC+, .376 wOBA Zavala at High A: 145 wRC+, .387 wOBA 21 homers It will be interesting to see them both at Birmingham together.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 02:02 PM) I didn't realize until just now that Asik has a 2019/2020 player option that he's likely to pick up. Only $4 million guaranteed in 2019/2020. They'll have to pay him next year. Not the year after though. -
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 01:53 PM) Surprised he doesn't have Seby Zavala in there after the breakout 2017 he had. He's older than most prospects, but could end up being a solid catching option? If Law doesn't believe that Collins can catch then he definitely doesn't think Zavala can either

The White Sox have added a lot of interesting Non-Roster Invites and minor league guys to compete for bullpen spots. As of last week, I assumed the bullpen was pretty set with something like this: Jones/Soria/Avilan/Bummer/Infante/Minaya/Farquhar. A lot has changed since then. There are a few minor league signings that could very easily make this team. RHP Nate Jones Joakim Soria Juan Minaya Danny Farquhar Gregory Infante Chris Beck Dylan Covey Connor Walsh Michael Ynoa Thyago Vieira Jose Ruiz Gonzalez German Rob Scahill Jeanmar Gomez Bruce Rondon LHP Luis Avilan Xavier Cedeno Aaron Bummer Jace Fry TJ House Brian Clark I believe that Nate Jones, Joakim Soria and Luis Avilan are all locks for the bullpen. I could see any of Scahill, Rondon, Gomez, and Cedeno displacing someone from above. Vieira and Ruiz will be given a shot as well. If I had to guess, I would think they'll try and send down the "prospect" types and keep as many veteran flip types as possible even though that means creating roster spots. I could see this for Opening Day (Yes it's way too early) RHP Nate Jones RHP Joakim Soria RHP Jeanmar Gomez RHP Bruce Rondon RHP Juan Minaya LHP Luis Avilan LHP Xavier Cedeno. This allows Sox to send Aaron Bummer, Jace Fry, Jose Ruiz and Thyago Vieira to Charlotte for a 1/2 season if necessary. Obviously these veterans could all suck in spring training but I would imagine that we see a couple of them break camp with the major league club. What do you guys think?

John Paxson basically confirmed on 670 this morning that they won't be free agent players this offseason. They are taking their time with this rebuild. -
Here is the review of system from Keith Law. Really good stuff. He has White Sox as 4th best system. Apparently he doesn't hate them anymore. http://www.espn.com/mlb/insider/story/_/id...ntral-prospects He has it like this: 1. Eloy Jimenez 2. Michael Kopech 3. Luis Robert 4. Alec Hansen 5. Dylan Cease 6. Dane Dunning 7. Jake Burger 8. Blake Rutherford 9. Micker Adolfo 10. Zack Collins 11. Gavin Sheets 12. Spencer Adams 13. Carson Fulmer 14. Ian Clarkin 15. Luis Alexander Basabe 16. Luis Gonzalez 17. Zack Burdi 18. AJ Puckett Some notes: Expects more growth from Dylan Cease, sees Dunning as future mid-rotation starter, Burger is bat-first with position questions but should hit enough regardless, Rutherford the Sox bough low but he needs to hit the ball in the air more, Adolfo was a positive review. Plus-plus arm and plus pull power. RF profile. He doesn't believe Collins can catch, Sees Sheets as having the floor of a platoon 1B and believes in the power, Adams is a strike thrower that could be a back end starter, Thinks Fulmer is a reliever but a good one, blamed many of Basabe's struggles on the knee injury, and sees Puckett as a #5 starter.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 2, 2018 -> 09:20 AM) On my Big Board as of today, this is how I have the outfields: MLB: Cordell/Engel/AGarcia, 4OF: Delmonico/Leury AAA: May/Tilson/WGarcia, DH/OF Palka, 4OF Robbins AA: Fisher/Polo/Jimenez, DH/OF Hawkins, 4OF Gelalich A+: 4-rota of Call/Basabe/Booker/Adolfo with DH, 4OF: Schnurbusch A: 4-rota of Robert/Rutherford/Gonzalez/Dedelow with DH, 4OF: Taylor ***Rk/EXT: Destino, Frost, Garcia, Coronado, Brown, Staudinger, etc. Worth noting that Destino and Frost both saw some infield work time at the hitters' camp, so they may be working to get them into A-ball somehow. I don't know if Rob feels similar but after listening to people talk at SoxFest and just observing things, I feel like Rutherford is going to Winston-Salem. I think they want him in that ballpark rather than Kanny.
-
https://www.fanragsports.com/inside-basebal...-affect-others/ The White Sox are in the market for a DH, though at this time there is no evidence that they have any interest in trading for eminently-available Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp. There was a time many, many years ago that the Sox showed some interest in Kemp, but that was many moons ago.

QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Jan 31, 2018 -> 04:46 PM) This can only hurt his trade value. That's not true. It keeps it the same. What could hurt it is him getting hurt in a meaningless game. -

QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 1, 2018 -> 07:57 AM) I agree. I know many people take the view of "just tell me what's going on in the game" view. For me it's too sterile. Baseball is entertainment. The weird and off the wall stuff between him and DJ adds to the entertainment, especially through the "rebuild" and bad baseball. They need an actual PBP guy on the radio. Farmer would be fine as the analyst. DJ would be fine as the analyst. Having both is strange though. -
QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 25, 2018 -> 03:14 PM) Next year’s ballot, I would instantly pick Bonds, Clemens, Schilling, Mussina, Rivera, and Halladay. I’ve always been a McGriff guy, and even though I’ve never been an Edgar guy, I’d vote for both in the last year. Final two picks, I might be coming around on Rolen and Kent, but Helton has a strong case. Would you vote for David Ortiz?

Personal Top 5 wants for the 2018 Draft

I don't really understand the Madrigal love at all. He's a 2B. Pass. 1. Ethan Hankins 2. Nander de Sedas 3. Brice Turang 4. Shane McClanahan 5. Matt Liberatore -
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 30, 2018 -> 06:43 PM) Right now I think the OFs shake out like this: A. A+ AA LF: Gonzalez. Rutherford. Fisher CF: Robert. Basabe. Polo RF: Dedelow. Adolfo. Jimenez 4th: Destino. Call. Hawkins I fully expect Polo, Basabe, & Robert to move up a level after about six weeks and remain the primary CF at their respective levels. I think Call & Gonzalez also move up around that time, with someone from extended spring training getting promoted to Kannapolis. Gonzalez will be in CF primarily at whichever level he's at IMO. Heres my guess on how it shakes out. Charlotte: Polo, May, Cordell, Palka, etc Birmingham: Jimenez, Booker, Fisher Winston Salem: Robert (CF), Adolfo (RF), Basabe (LF), Call Kannapolis: Gonzalez (CF), Rutherford, Dedelow, Destino

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 26, 2018 -> 08:13 PM) That it's in the way of my view of my season tickets and they decided to tell us well after we had to renew. I've never seen anyone complain about scout seats and there's a net in front of them -
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 26, 2018 -> 09:03 AM) This could also be a reason as to why they would rather have Darvish instead of Arrieta. Recover at least something by letthing him walk and not having to give up anything to sign Darvish as opposed to Cobb and Lynn. Exactly. If they sign Darvish, they will have their 1st rounder, 2nd rounder and two additional picks after round $2. That probably gets them close to an additional $3 million to spend on the draft. It's not a huge deal when you are trying to championships but it doesn't hurt. They need to reload that system a bit.
-
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jan 26, 2018 -> 08:24 AM) Thanks Jimmy. And it certainly looks like a system that can be "worked" by small market teams, like the Rockies did. Instead of re-signing your own guy, let him go, sign a player from another team, and move up in the draft. It's especially helpful because all those teams receive competitive balance picks as well. The White Sox will never get those.
-
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jan 26, 2018 -> 08:06 AM) I see the Rockies performed a nice feat of arbitrage, letting Holland go and signing Davis and moving up 9 spots in the process. Speaking of which, I'm not up on the rules, but why do the Rockies have to lose a pick for signing Davis? I assume he wasn't given a QO, or the Cubs would be on that post-first round list of extra picks. It's complicated so I'll try to explain. Large market teams that offered QO now get a pick after the 2nd round. So the Cubs will get 2 picks after the 2nd round for Arrieta and Davis. Those 6 teams that I listed after the 1st round are all considered small market teams that receives revenue sharing. Those teams still get a pick after round 1 for losing a free agent that offer a QO to. Revenue sharing recipients lose their 3rd highest pick to sign a QO FA. Big market revenue providers (Sox lumped in here) forfeit their 2nd choice to sign a FA. Teams that are over the luxury tax line (SF, Washington, Boston, LAD) would forfeit their 2nd and 5th rounder to sign a QO FA. Does this help?

Brewers Acquire Christian Yelich & sign Lorenzo Cain

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 26, 2018 -> 08:07 AM) Do we see a deal for Archer for Santana and Broxton and a pitching prospect or two coming soon? (Yes, I get that Archer also has 4 years, but the Rays are a team that usually retools on the fly and 4 years of a guy like Santana can be valuable to them, especially with other pieces coming over). I don't think they have the pieces for Archer. We could see Santana for Danny Salazar though. -
Lorenzo Cain signed a 5 year $80 million deal with the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers forfeit their 3rd round pick in this draft. The Royals receive a 1st rounder for losing Cain. Nothing changes in regards to White Sox. The draft order is below. 1. Tigers 2. Giants 3. Phillies 4. White Sox 5. Reds 6. Mets 7. Padres 8. Braves 9. Athletics 10. Pirates 11. Orioles 12. Jays 13. Marlins 14. Mariners 15. Rangers 16. Rays 17. Angels 18. Royals 19. Twins 20. Twins 21. Brewers 22. Rockies 23. Yankees 24. Cubs 25. Diamondbacks 26. Red Sox 27. Nationals 28. Astros 29. Indians 30. Dodgers 31. Rays (Alex Cobb) 32. Royals (Eric Hosmer) 33. Royals (Lorenzo Cain) 34. Royals (Mike Moustakas) 35. Rockies (Greg Holland) 36. Indians (Carlos Santana) Competitive Balance Round A 37. Pirates 38. Rays (Comp, failure to sign Rasmusses) 39. Orioles 40. Padres 41. Diamondbacks 42. Royals 43. Indians 44. Rockies 45. Cardinals 2nd Round 46. Tigers 47. Giants 48. White Sox

Top White Sox Prospects, Preseason 2018

QUOTE (oldsox @ Jan 25, 2018 -> 07:39 AM) Or are they listed so high simply because of their #1 Draft status, ala Courtney Hawkins? We'll see. Yes oldsox you've solved our formula. We sit around and all agree to put the former 1st rounders higher than they should be. Can't believe nobody figured it out before this. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 24, 2018 -> 09:19 AM) And sigh, yeah, only 2 top 30 players acquired by the white sox through INTL FA signings. And I just don't consider cuba to be the same, so really it's still just adolfo. Some of us argued for Lenyn Sosa who will definitely be on the Baseball America list. It's a fact though that the White Sox need to do a better job internationally in the future. -

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jan 24, 2018 -> 09:54 AM) Great top 10. Love Cease, so props to you guys for valuing his upside as much as I do. Only gripe is Clarkin is too low (definitely a top 20 prospect in my book). Basabe as well. I agree with this on Clarkin. I had him at #16 in my top 30. he hasn't been able to stay healthy but he has the stuff to start for sure.
