  1. As a matter of fact, here's my early guess for the Affiliates: Charlotte: Kopech, Adams, Guerrero, Stephens, Danish, Covey Birmingham: Hansen, Dunning, Banks, Puckett, Lambert Winston-Salem: Cease, Clarkin, Flores, Solorzano, Martinez, Andre Davis Kannapolis: Hickman, McClure, Henzman, Comito, Peralta
  2. He might be on the team because of his defense but nothing should be given to him. He was one of the very worst players in baseball last year. 336 plate appearances 6 Homers 35% K Rate .247 BABIP (was unlucky) .166/.235/.282 wOBA .230 wRC+ 37. -0.7 fWAR. I think there will be much better overall options in the OF. His defense is spectacular but his .OPS is barely over .500.
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 17, 2018 -> 10:02 AM) With Johnson, while it's clear they see him as a reliever, I can't remember if they said they were going to work him as a starter in the minors. Does anyone else recall? Here's my guess: Tyler Johnson in relief as a back end guy at either Kannapolis or Winston Salem. McClure and Henzman will likely be starting at Kannapolis.
  4. QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Jan 17, 2018 -> 08:10 AM) Can someone copy and paste that article? That link only had the first 2 paragraphs How about you just subscribe? Are you a coffee drinker? It's literally the price of 1 cup of coffee per month. It's the best deal in the city.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 16, 2018 -> 07:04 PM) Birmingham would be crazy aggressive. I think he definitely starts in Kanny to get his feet wet and build some confidence, unless he just totally blows everyone away in camp and ends up at Winston-Salem. Let's not forget we heard the same things about Viciedo as a 19 year old, and, while he did reach the big leagues in just two years, it took him a good 3+ years in the minors before he broke into the line-up as a regular LFer. Of course, part of that was all the position changes, 3B/1B/LF/RF. The only thing that Luis Robert and Dayan Viciedo have in common is that they're from Cuba.
  6. Would they trade whatever they can, likely just Anisimov and just play the young guys? That's the best course of action IMO. Go young. Hopefully you finish bad enough to pick in the top 5 and reboot this thing next year if Crawford is ultimately back. If Crawford is done? Then they're toast. They have immovable contracts and trading Patrick Kane doesn't really make any sense.
  7. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 16, 2018 -> 01:56 PM) Lorenzo Cain would be a perfect fit for them. He would. I don't think they are interested in giving up all the assets it would take to sign him though.
  8. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 16, 2018 -> 01:20 PM) I fully agree with your end state that if we get Cousins with the main core we could be top 3 seed as soon as next year (albeit I get nervous about the fact that Cousins hasn't won anywhere and losing can be toxic). Now here's a counter...what if they try to win now and make a run at the playoffs and then make a push at Cousins and George (not sure if we have the cap space or not). We really seem to have built a good culture with this current group (again kudos to Hoiberg and staff). I blasted him for a couple years but have to change my tune a lot this year. And by trade whatever they can, who are you implying to move? I presume Lopez / Niko? Trade whatever they can meaning Niko, Lopez, Holiday. I have no interest in making the playoffs this year. It doesn't help anything. I'd rather have the miniscule chance at landing a top 3 pick in the lottery than making the playoffs.
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 16, 2018 -> 12:45 PM) You nailed where I stand exactly (on the trade and in-terms of watching). Dunn's growth shooting has been awesome...he's still inconsistent with that jumper but given how much improvement he's shown year-over-year there is so much to like. Will reserve things till I see more of Lavine but he reminds me a bit of Crawford in the sense that he can really score, but more aggressive in his ability to get in the paint (Crawford really was only a shooter but a damn good one). Defensively Lavine has the athleticism and size that he should be able to defend but he's got to put in a lot of work on that part of his game. The nice thing is Lauri and Dunn, two of are other core pieces are both fantastic. My question is do you try to get a draft pick or do you try and get a free agent. I recognize those aren't directly tied and you could do both, but if you make a run at the playoffs this year, I think the chances of landing a big free agent increase (no guarantee though). If you don't make the playoffs, I think the reality is you are probably waiting another year to make your moves in free agency (and might have more competition at that time). I wrote this about Bulls situation today: https://theloopsports.com/2018/01/16/bulls-...ath-be-altered/ I think they'll trade whatever they can and try to pick as high as possible. They could play in free agency this offseason though. They are ahead of schedule. Lets say they snag Villanova SF Mikal Bridges in the draft and sign Cousins in the off-season. That's easily a top 3 seed in the East without LeBron.
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 12, 2018 -> 05:49 PM) The MLB trade rumors projection was $6.7 million. If it is still possible, I would bet they would probably split the difference, but the Sox figure does seem a little low, and Avi's not so crazy. You take the midway point between the 2 offers and I think Avi is worth that. I don't think it is worth what you have to do in arbitration to save hardly anything, and really, Unless the mlbtr model is really off, Avi should win. He has $425k in value to play with under their model and the Sox offer. That same mlbtr model had Abreu at $17.9 million and he signed for $13 million today.
  11. QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Jan 12, 2018 -> 05:25 PM) Jon Heyman @JonHeyman avi garcia files at $6.7M, chisox file at $5.85M Sox haven't gone to arbitration since 2001 with Keith Foulke. He'll lose IMO.
  12. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 12, 2018 -> 12:01 PM) Robert is our #1 OF prospect, so you play him where you need to and adjust the lesser prospects accordingly. he's their #2 OF prospect but yes.
  13. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 12, 2018 -> 08:36 AM) If Arians is that close, would be great to bring him in, in Chidress role for the defense next year. Would love to see Chidress and Arians both have some sort of supporting role. Bruce Arians is an offensive coach. He's a QB guy
  14. QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 02:18 PM) Lots of thirsty people in that house. I like mixing in other shows. Good way to get fresh faces in. I don't watch Big Brother but that chick that Bananas is trying to hook up with is hot.
  15. QUOTE (wrathofhahn @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 02:17 PM) Pretty sure the plan is to start Kopech down in AA/AAA. Rondon is a huge ??? from a health standpoint. Shields looked done last year. The last thing I want to do is burn through our young guys service time playing them in meaningless games both Fulmer and Giolito were able to preserve an extra year by not calling them up at the beginning of the season. It's Rodon and he should be back by June at the latest. Kopech will be starting in AAA. The rotation is likely: Shields/Giolito/Lopez/Gonzalez/Fulmer to start the year. Rodon will take a spot at some point. Michael Kopech will take a spot at some point.
  16. How is there not a thread yet? What do we think guys?
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 01:59 PM) Who else is likely bound for the rotation at Charlotte other than Kopech? Charlotte rotation: 1. Michael Kopech 2. Spencer Adams 3. Jordan Guerrero 4. Jordan Stephens 5.Dylan Covey 6. Tyler Danish
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 01:41 PM) Miguel is OK by me. How were his peripherals before I decide whether he's good or not. I don't despise him or anything. As far as Shields/Opening Day. Geez. If he pitches Opening Day it's telling the world and our fans: "The White Sox wish to tank one more season. Please bear with us as we tank. And please enjoy your 25 dollar parking and 10 dollar beer. We are allowed to charge that while giving you James Shields one more season before we get good. That is all." Greg, parking is $20. Only $10 on Sundays though.
  19. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 01:32 PM) Great article. I think you nailed it, though I'd probably lean toward putting Robert on the EST/Rookie Ball track Hahn has said to expect to expect him in A ball. He'll either be in Kannapolis or Winston-Salem.
  20. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 11:07 AM) Love it. Happy to see Miguel back on the south side. Hopefully this means Covey becomes the long relief arm in the pen. I'd be surprised if Covey is on the opening day roster actually
  21. Jeff Hughes of DaBearsBlog reported Harry Hiestand yesterday. He posted Mark Helfrich as OC in the comments section on his site but only speculated on twitter. Mully and other beat guys have confirmed this morning. Helfrich addition would be fascinating.

  24. QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 12:21 PM) I'm thinking 4 for sure.. With probably Cease at the back end. Who are you thinking is the 5th for sure? Hansen is absolutely on it.
  25. QUOTE (KnightsOnMintSt @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 10:54 AM) According to MLB, the White Sox will have 6 in the Top 100. Who said that? They have 6 on current list but that isn't updated. THey'll have 5 for sure though. I'm guessing they still have Rutherford on it.
