  1. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 09:34 PM) That's paying 10M for the #33 pick. Yes. And it's very much worth it. It also won't be the #33 pick. TB and Kansas City will have 4 comp picks after round 1. $10 million for the chance to spend an additional $2.5 million throughout the draft and add a top 40 player. That'd be an excellent deal
  2. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 01:27 PM) Another Rise against concert? He played last night, right? I was at the Rise Against concert. Didn't see him there
  3. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 01:48 PM) Definitely doesn't hurt that Castillo hits right handed and Collins left handed. Castillo murders lefties, Collins struggles against them. Last year vs LHP for Welington Castillo: .937 OPS, 147 wRC+, .393 wOBA.
  4. I'm not really sure what it signifies but it's a good signing. Led AL in throwing out runners last year and dramatically improved his framing ability and he's a good defender too. Hit 20 homers in 365 plate appearances as well. 113 wRC+, .344 wOBA, .208 ISO. Nice signing.
  5. I wrote this about Abreu today for those interested: https://theloopsports.com/2017/12/01/jose-a...-for-white-sox/
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 09:41 AM) Besides him screwing up the process, that's also another awful hire. I clamored for Leach at Illinois, but he would get destroyed at a program like Tennessee. Completely disagree. Leach would be fine there. The guy can coach. Would have been a blessing for that program.
  7. QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 11:02 AM) That deal would really be a disappointment, for me. Very underwhelming. I'll bet that doesn't get it done. Which deal would be a disappointment?
  8. This is an excellent piece by Eno Sarris at The Athletic about why Oakland shouldn't trade for Avi: https://theathletic.com/170936/2017/12/01/h...avisail-garcia/
  9. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 10:44 AM) Jason Martinez of mlbtraderumors had this to say: "Zamboni 5:44 Flaherty and Sierra get it done for the Cards for Abreu Jason Martinez 5:45 I'd say one of their top pitching prospects, one of their best OF prospects and maybe one low-level guy with high upside. So Flaherty/Sierra could be in the vicinity of what it would take." Yeah Magneuris Sierra is a leadoff profile with elite level defense in CF. Flaherty and Sierra would probably be a nice deal for Sox.
  10. I've wrestled with this decision on Abreu for some time now. I've always been of the mindset that you maximize value on all of your assets but I understand the opposite thought process on Jose Abreu. He is a mentor to some of the young guys and fellow countrymen but how seriously does that need to be considered? I know that Rick Hahn and the organization values Abreu very highly but his job is to put together a baseball team that will sustain success with winning a world series as the goal. I don't see them dumping Abreu to save $$ for a minimal return or something like that but his current contract matters a great deal. He's going to get about $17 million in arbitration this year and probably another $20 million next year. I've said that with two years of control, they need to either extend him or trade him. His value will never be higher than it is right now. On the other hand, I'm not interested in the White Sox paying retail for Jose Abreu. If he wants to be a White Sox lifer, and take a pretty big discount to stay then I'd be all for him sticking around for awhile. If he wants to max out his income though or even make what's probably fair, I honestly think they'll deal him. He's going to be a 33 year old DH by the time they even consider seriously winning something. He's important for the clubhouse but if Luis Robert and Yoan Moncada aren't going to be as good because the Sox traded him, then they probably aren't the right guys anyway.
  11. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 10:53 AM) I'm obviously pro-rebuild and also believe that the Sox still need more talent in the system to really do this right, but I don't like this fit. Obviously there's a price for any player, but I don't see anything left in the Red Sox system that would make sense. I've said it before, but I think Abreu is worth more to the White Sox than he is on the open market. I agree with this but now is the time to move if they are truly going to move him. I read this one of two ways: Sox leaked Red Sox to the media in order to press some other suitors into action on Abreu in talks. Also possible, Dombrowski floated the possibility of trading for Abreu because they are in the Hosmer/Martinez market and Boras hasn't even started moving.
  12. QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 28, 2017 -> 12:47 PM) Ban her. It's not even a crash I want to watch every year anymore. It was cringeworthy.
  13. Anyone watch the Champs vs Pros? Good god Camila
  14. White Sox have to tender contracts to or non-tender the following players: Jose Abreu Leury Garcia Avisail Garcia Al Albuquerque Danny Farquhar Jake Petricka Zach Putnam Carlos Rodon Yolmer Sanchez What do you guys think?

  16. These players get to keep their bonuses. They are restricted to international rules like everyone has said though. The White Sox can't sign anyone for more than $300K. There really aren't a ton of teams with a bunch of money to throw around and teams already have money committed during the 2018/2019 period. Some of these prospects like Almonte (catcher) were never $3 million + prospects anymore. They were bundled to save on other guys. Sox may have a shot at a few guys for $300K but I don't expect them to be too active. It's just the way it is once they decided to go all out for Luis Robert.
  17. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 08:38 AM) Isn't the waiver order just the draft order in the off-season? I'm not sure it goes by league. Yes it is: https://www.thecubreporter.com/book/export/html/3525 So basically, only the Tigers and Giants have priority over the White Sox if they want Mark Appel.
  18. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 08:32 AM) I'm not sure Appel is going to make it out of the NL. Plenty or rebuilding teams that could claim him. Isn't the waiver order just the draft order in the off-season? I'm not sure it goes by league.
  19. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 03:59 PM) Doesn't Polo get 1 more year since he was signed at/before age 18? What year was he signed?
  20. White Sox chose not to protect: UTIL Jake Peter, LHP Jordan Guerrero, and OF Tito Polo. Any of them could potentially get taken. I think they could add more guys after the non-tender deadline too though.
  21. QUOTE (Blackout Friday @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 12:02 AM) This is from mlbtraderumors: Hard to argue with this. Edit: I screwed up the quote function. 22. White Sox have a ton of roster moves to make in the next 24 hours. Scott Merkin suggested that the club could add as many as 6 guys to the 40 man roster. In order to do so and leave a spot available for the Rule 5, they would need to remove 3 players from the 40-man.
  23. Great trade. These are the types of moves that they need to be making. They've traded international pool money for SS Yeyson Yrizarri, RHP Ryan Burr, and now Thyago Vieria. Not a bad haul for $$ that you basically couldn't spend anyway.
  24. QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 08:42 PM) I'm so sick of hearing stories about Mirotic and Portis. They run their team worse than a kindergarten. I'm not really sure what they're supposed to do here. Mirotic and Portis need to sit and hash it out or Mirotic probably shouldn't be at the facility. They aren't trading Portis and can't trade Mirotic until January 15th.
