  1. QUOTE (turnin' two @ Jul 3, 2017 -> 03:58 PM) Yeah, well, he is hitting 100 points below that level. Walks are great and all, but if a guy doesn't show the ability to hit, pitchers are just going to attack him, and the walks will decline then disappear. He needs to hit. By no means am I calling him a bust or anything like that, it is his first full season of pro ball and he has time. But he has to hit. For a guy that was billed as an advanced college bat, it is a bit concerning to see him struggle to hit in his second go round in A-ball. If he were doing what he did last year (.258/.418/.467), most people would be happy with him even though it isn't progress. To this point, this season has been a step backwards (offensively) , and in terms of player development, that is a failure. Yes, he has gotten better defensively, but defensive catchers are a dime a dozen, it is that bat that could make him special. The bat needs to start showing some progress, it is scary that he has shown that he may be better suited for Kanny than Birmingham. I disagree a bit here. The most important part of Collins' development is staying at catcher. If he can do that, he could be an All-Star. He also doesn't have to be a monster offensively. If he can't stay at C and we are talking about a 1B/DH, then yes he needs to absolutely rake.
  2. I'm not sure Minnesota is a top 6 seed out West. Taj isn't really a great fit. They need shooting really bad. THey don't shoot the 3 well enough to be a serious factor out West with the way the game is played now. GSW/SA/Houston/OKC are probably all still better. Wolves in that next group though with a bunch of teams.
  3. QUOTE (Saladino'sMustache @ Jul 3, 2017 -> 10:56 AM) Kahnle got absolutely robbed. I know he's had some trouble lately, but look at his numbers compared to Betances. Kahnle: 0.9 WAR, 2.20 ERA, 0.918 WHIP, 7.86 K/BB. Betances: 0.5 WAR, 3.12 ERA, 1.346 WHIP, 2.29 K/BB. It's not even close. Look at it this way: Tommy Kahnle: 1.3 fWAR, 32.2 IP, 55K/7BB, 2.20 ERA and 1.21 FIP Dellin Betances: 0.7 fWAR, 26 IP, 48K/21BB, 3.12 ERA, 2.60 FIP
  4. Nightengale reported months ago that Sox were sending Robertson and a chunk of the contract to Washington for 3B Drew Ward and LHP Jesus Luzardo. It fell through because Ted Lerner (2nd richest owner in MLB) is cheap. It's easy to see what might have happened here. Sox want to eat X and get those players in return. Nats want Sox to eat Y and take same players. I doubt this deal happens. Robertson has been really good this year. While I want the Sox to eat $$ on deals in order to receive better prospects in return, I don't really think it should be necessary to eat much of Robertson's deal. You should get prospects for him while someone else takes on the $$. It's not that bad.
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 30, 2017 -> 01:41 PM) Cubs despite being in penalty are getting 2 top 50 players...how does that work out. They are from Mexico. Weird rules. The player is getting like $300K but they are paying $1.5 million or so for each guy. In Mexican League, club takes the rest. Really strange.
  6. Winston-Salem Dash‏Verified account @WSDashBaseball Following More Good start from Alec Hansen: 5IP, 1R, 4H, 3BB, 5K, 86 pitches. He is in line for the victory! Drew Hasler in for B6. #YourHomeTeam
  7. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 08:55 PM) How much are top prospects likely to get July 2nd? The top player is SS Wander Franco. He's getting $3.9 million from Tampa Bay
  8. QUOTE (Soha @ Jun 30, 2017 -> 09:34 AM) In the past I would have agreed with you. But it's all about the rebuild now isn't it? I think Jerry's too old to let things like this get in the way. I'm envisioning a conversation where Hahn tells Jerry that we have 2 good offers. The better offer is from the Cubs for Jimenez +. I just don't see Jerry saying to take the worse offer because I don't want Quintana helping the Cubs. That in itself is hurting the White Sox. I think they're above that now. Maybe I'm wrong? And boy is the need ever there. The Cubs probably need Quintana more than any other contender in baseball does. It's like a "regional" tax similar to what it'd be like to deal with a divisional team. I don't think there's any way that the Cubs offer a bunch more than Houston or NYY and that's what it'd take to send Q there.
  9. QUOTE (Soha @ Jun 30, 2017 -> 09:20 AM) I would strongly prefer Eloy as a headliner for Q as opposed to guys like Frazier or Rutherford. Even if it comes at the expense of depth in the trade. We can fill out the system's depth when trading everyone else. The White Sox and Cubs aren't making a Quintana deal
  10. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 09:15 PM) Comito have a good arm? Yes. Was an overslot signing and Iowa commit from an Iowa HS in I believe 2015?
  11. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 30, 2017 -> 08:26 AM) We can't forget that it isn't a given that the Sox will be willing to eat any of Robertson's salary. Heyman is reporting otherwise. He says Sox will eat $$ on guys to enhance prospect return
  12. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 30, 2017 -> 07:40 AM) http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball...ticle-1.3288375 Article from the NYDN this morning about how Yanks should go after Quintana and Robertson with scout quotes. Here are a couple snippets. Here’s what that probably means: one player would be Clint Frazier or Blake Rutherford; another would be Chance Adams or Justus Sheffield; and then someone like Wade or Andujar, as well as a younger pitcher like Albert Abreu. That’s not unreasonable to get two pitchers who could put the Yankees over the top this season and be here beyond 2017, especially with all of the young talent they have to absorb such a hit to their farm system. It also mentions that they might have to beat Houston to the punch Landing one of Frazier/Rutherford + one of Sheffield/Adams/ + Andujar + Abreu would be a great deal
  13. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball...ticle-1.3288375 Article from the NYDN this morning about how Yanks should go after Quintana and Robertson with scout quotes. Here are a couple snippets. “It makes sense for the Yankees because those two guys solve a lot of problems for them,” a team executive said on Thursday, “but the cost is going to be painful in terms of prospects. Even if they move now to beat Houston to the punch, (White Sox GM) Rick Hahn can still dictate the price.” What would it cost? The consensus among the scouts and executives was that to get both Quintana and Robertson, it would take two blue-chippers and two other significant prospects. 14. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 12:14 PM) Very simple...he wants to win and winning is contagious. It isn't like Boston is some dump. I would be shocked if he doesn't end up in Boston and when he does...he's going to resign. That will be part of any deal. I disagree that this matters as much as you think. I'd be stunned if he doesn't get himself to LA
  15. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 12:08 PM) Where? Lebron is going to boot Kyrie for an older CPaul? I just meant that they'd both be free agents
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 12:14 PM) Can you get a good seat on the lower level for under 40 bucks? Buy an OF seat for $18 and sit wherever the hell you want.
  17. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 11:58 AM) One intersting thing is...by waiting...Boston has positioned itself in a fantastic spot to get real value for Paul George (who is not as good of a player as Jimmy Butler). I still see the Lakers swooping in at some point and making a significant offer for George, because the entire Lakers plan takes a major back seat if they can't get George (since their plan is to get George and LBJ in a package deal). If George is traded to any of the teams rumored...he will sign. I don't think he will. He can make the same amount in LA next year that he could make in Cleveland or Boston. Why would he commit to staying anywhere when he wants to be in LA?
  18. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 11:33 AM) I will say right now...I would have rather kept Butler and traded for CP3...then taken a run at LBJ next off-season. Probably a pipe dream, but It would have been my strategy. That said, I didn't expect Chris Paul to be that much in play. Chris Paul wasn't coming to Chicago though. He's going to Houston for a year and then will be a free agent again. With LeBron.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 25, 2017 -> 11:02 PM) It's pretty expensive (if you want a decent seat lower level) to go to a game. And with this team the past few years, you never know if you are going to get a ridiculous stinker like the Buehrle game or a game when they get shut out. Good thing we won it all in 05 cause without that we'd definitely be considered one of the worst franchises in sports. It's really not very expensive. I've told you this every single time you post something like this. You never respond though.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 10:19 AM) There are about 10 teams who are going to be in the market for $300k players. Seeing as all have a budget of $4.75 million and higher, I don't see there being a couple of hundred players out there who fit under this umbrella for all of these teams to sign, in addition to having enough players for all of the teams that aren't in the penalty phase too. I think the Sox spend around a million dollars due to lack of player supply, and teams who aren't in the penalty phase being able to bid them just slightly out of the reach of teams who are in the the penalty phase. It's very possible that a team like the Rays decides to spend $10 million internationally. They have a couple big expenditures already. They have $5.75 million to spend. They can trade for $4.25 million more. It's possible that they trade the White Sox or someone else a prospect or 2 for $1.5-$2 million in international money. The Sox need to use this money but it might not be for players.
  21. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 09:37 AM) Let's hope they spend the $4.75MM I hope they use it somehow. Gonna be tough to spend it all though without big $$ items. I'd be cool if they spent $3 million and traded away another $1.5 million.
  22. Here is the international top 30 from mlbpipeline.com: http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2017?list=int Here is the top 50 from Ben Badler: http://www.baseballamerica.com/internation...H6cdRJhyWskL.97 Badler also has some Sox info here: http://www.baseballamerica.com/internation...ZEigYiewU1MU.97 Obviously, the Luis Robert signing puts the White Sox in an unfamiliar place. Ben Badler noted in his piece that the Sox didn't commit to any big bonus players for the upcoming 2017/2018 signing period because if they signed Robert, they'd have to renege on those agreements. The White Sox did sign Robert and they will be in the penalty phase for the 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 signing periods. This is what it means: The White Sox can't sign any international free agents under the age of 25 and subject to the new CBA rules for more than $300,000.00. However, they do technically have $4.75 million to spend on international amateurs. They could trade some of or all of their money to other teams as well. I think it's likely that they sign a bunch of guys for 300K and under bonuses and still have some $$ to trade to needy teams. This is what Badler had to say in the article pertaining to the Sox: If White Sox didn't land Luis Robert, they were likely going to "pivot" to Cuban RHP Roberto Hernandez but he's no longer at the White Sox "Price point". He says they are proceeding with "more of an open canvas" at this point. He does say that they are expected to sign Catcher Jefferson Mendoza, who is described as an athletic right-handed hitting catcher with a strong arm. He also says that they could go after Sydney Pimentel who is a skinny Dominican SS from the same program as Micker Adolfo. Here is some info on Pimentel: http://dplbaseball.com/sidney-pimentel-mif/
  23. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Jun 25, 2017 -> 10:48 PM) In my opinion, the busts we have had and those who will likely be busts. 2008 - Gordon Beckham 2009 - Jared Mitchell, Josh Phegley 2011 = Keenyn Walker 2012- Courtney Hawkins, Keon Barnum 2015- Carson Fulmer 2016- Zack Colllins 2017- Burger Yes, I have lost hoe that Fulmer and Collins will pan put, and I just can't see Burger as a major league player. If Carlos Rodon does not come back to pre-injury form, he might join that list. I just stumbled across this. You are a troll and serve zero purpose on this message board. Go ahead and suspend if it's warranted.
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 12:19 PM) Is Tilson any good or another bust? Does he project to be Eaton-ish? That would be good enough. Good enough? Eaton is a f***ing 5 WAR player. I'll do cartwheels if he turns into Adam Eaton.
  25. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 02:03 PM) I'm confused how Sheets ends up getting $2 million bonus way overslot, but a similarly ranked Skoug gets $300k How does Sheets justify $600-700K overslot as a second round pick? White Sox had a 1st round grade on Sheets
