  1. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 09:29 PM) I fear that this is officially the end. Too bad. I think this is a tad premature. Kane and Toews are like 28 years old.
  2. QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 08:23 AM) Ok, you realize that your two examples cited here are FAILED international signings, right? Failing to sign Soler and failing to sign Tanaka actually makes it appear more likely that the Sox will (here's that word again) FAIL to sign Robert, based on historical precedent. I'm not picking on you, but KW & RH coming to a press conference to tell the fans "we tried" to sign Robert seems like an extension of the failures with Soler & Tanaka. Your point was that they were cheap though. Just because they didn't land those two guys, it doesn't mean they are cheap. They want hard on both and the guys picked other destinations.
  3. QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 07:52 AM) I don't recall the timing, but signing a 27 year old Jose Abreu doesn't seem to be anything like pursuing a 19/20 year old Robert. The former seems like KW's treasured policy of pursuing veterans. Any pursuit of Robert would seem to go contrary to Reinsdorf's reluctance to spend on "just prospects." Moreover, I can't recall an example where this org beat out other MLB teams to sign a youngster where other teams were interested and involved in pursuing a youngster. Belle, Borchard, and Abreu were veteran players, unlike Robert. Borchard was a draftee. Viciedo did not gin up as much interest & competition for his services as Robert. I see no precedence in recent years from this org. On balance, signing Robert seems incredibly unlikely to me. The White Sox finished 2nd on Jorge Soler and offered him in the $25 million range. He took 9/30 from the Cubs. Sox also had a monster offer for Masahiro Tanaka. I've criticized JR a fair share over the years for draft and international spending habits but this is different. If the people he trusts in his organization want this guy, he'll spend the money. I'm not really worried about that in this case.
  4. Adell does have superstar potential though. Haseley doesn't. It's a risk/reward thing. They need some of these guys. They placed an emphasis on on-base types who didn't strikeout a ton in the previous draft. I don't think that means they shy away from "athletes" though. Hostetler comes from the Schuerholz school of scouting that focuses on power pitching and athletes at premium positions.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 12:39 PM) Does that mean he can agree to a deal before then, but not just sign it, or not able to negotiate until then? I'm sure numbers have already been exchanged.
  6. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 12:42 PM) http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/mock-...UMGkKBkxSZIR.97 They have the Sox taking Louisville Prep OF Jordon Adell. Loaded with tools. Significant swing and miss issues though. 11. White Sox The White Sox would snap up Gore if he fell this far, but that’s unlikely. An infusion of pitching talent in offseason trades gives the Sox the flexibility to go back to one of their favored phyla of talent, toolsy prep outfielders such as Louisville prep toolshed Jordan Adell. Pick: Jordon Adell, of, Ballard HS, Louisville | Speculation is that Minnesota wants to cut a deal at #1. 1. Twins-Brendan McKay LHP Louisville 2. Reds- Hunter Greene RHP California (HS)-Rumors that he wants to fall to SD at #3 3. San Diego- Royce Lewis SS/CF HS (California 4. Tampa Bay: Kyle Wright RHP Vandy 5. Milwaukee: Jeren Kendall CF Vandy 10. Angels: Alex Faedo RHP Florida 11. White Sox: Jo Adell OF HS (Kentucky) 12. Pirates: Adam Haseley OF Virginia

  8. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 12:20 PM) Man. Robert would be such a nice addition to the system but I honestly have no faith that the Sox will spend enough to get him. If they can't spend enough to get him, their rebuilding efforts are doomed and none of this matters anyway.
  9. QUOTE (daggins @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 11:28 AM) Badler is usually very good about this stuff, and if he thinks a team that is over the limit already is more likely to sign him, i'm inclined to believe it. That said, there's always a chance the Sox surprise. Sure because that makes sense. I wrote an entire article on this though. Badler specifically mentioned the Sox as the team that kept coming up the most in discussions about where he'd land. He even said Sox could blow past pools to sign him. The Sox don't have any current rumored signings for the next period. This is a big factor IMO. They can sign him for any amount and just pay the tax. They won't be reneging on any offers with players for the next period. It being the White Sox makes complete sense.
  10. QUOTE (daggins @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 11:10 AM) Prior to that Badler update, i'd have pegged us at like 20%. Now? Maybe 5-10%. Seriously? I would classify the White Sox as the favorites personally.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 10:52 AM) Apparently I was looking at a 2016 list where he was still #12. http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2017?list=was That's their list. Tons of international signings. Soto, Kieboom, Antuna, and Luzardo are the guys I'd target from them.
  12. Soto is a top 100 type for multiple outlets and probably their 3rd best prospect. LHP Jesus Luzardo is a guy that I'd target in any deal with Washington. Had TJS in HS. Fell to the 2nd round because of it. Would have been a likely top 20 pick last year.
  13. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 09:35 AM) It's probably the biggest indicator of future success for minor league pitchers, so the infatuation makes sense. Compared to what we have at the MLB level, there's far less reliable data on minor league park factors, batted ball data/exit velocity, and the quality of defenses, so I pretty much take everything beyond peripherals with a massive grain of salt. I watched Giolito's start. His CRV and CHG are still nasty. It's all about FB command with him. He was like 91-95 with the FB last night but he's wild in the zone. He doesn't need to throw high 90's to be effective with his Curveball but he absolutely needs to command it better.
  14. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 19, 2017 -> 06:33 AM) Well, I didn't see that elimination result coming. Me neither. Thought Laurel would dominate. Camilla should edge over Nicole and Trashley
  15. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Apr 19, 2017 -> 09:34 AM) Different since 2012? I have my doubts When is the last time the White Sox took a high school position player and successfully got him to the major leagues? Trayce Thompson?
  16. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 01:14 PM) I still think we draft a QB in the 1st round. So do I. Too much smoke. Leming has thought so all along. Greg Gabriel, Moon Mullin, and Jim Miller all have them taking DeShaun Watson at #3.
  17. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 12:57 PM) Thanks. Was it known months in advance that they had agreements in place prior to the J2 signing periods? I can't remember. Yeah. Typically the first wave gets announced in late February. Here's a mini timeline: Robert was rumored as next big thing. Hahn and Marco Paddy talked about how they'd be active in July 2nd period that starts this coming July. I assumed that if Robert was cleared in this timeframe, the Sox wouldn't be able to sign him because they would be reneging on rumored agreements for next period. Then the Sox were mentioned as a team to watch for Robert. In late February, Ben Badler wrote an article talking about a lot of the top guys for this coming July 2nd Period. The White Sox aren't linked to any of them. If Robert were cleared in next period, Sox could sign him for $8.3 million and use majority of their pool. If he's cleared sooner, they can pay him anything but have to pay a 100% tax and can't sign anyone in the next period which starts on July 2. Foregoing the next period ins't that big of a deal though because they don't have agreements with top guys anyway. Make sense?
  18. This doesn't change anything. He was always likely to be cleared in this current period. It's tough for MLB to justify holding him out until J2 because he's established residency. The Sox have no excuse not to get him if they want him. They should be able to outspend San Diego, Houston, St. Louis, and Cincinnati. They also don't have any agreements for top players in next period which tells me they will be all in on this guy. If they miss on him, and then don't have agreements with guys for upcoming J2 period, they've really botched this thing. I think they are one of the primary contenders for him like Badler confirmed on twitter today.
  19. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 10:38 AM) Cain is a really good player, but I'd be hesitant to sign a player who will be 32 years old next April to a long term deal He likely has a couple quality seasons left before he goes into decline and it's generally not worth paying top dollar for that I meant that he'd someone this year as a rental.
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 07:26 PM) I don't see KC trading Duffy. Maybe naive but I think that org will try to hunker down with what they have. Duffy signed a 5 year extension with them. My guess is that they sign Hosmer and let Cain, Moustakas, and Escobar walk or trade them at the deadline. Cain would be a big addition for someone.
  21. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 11:35 PM) Who is Robert's pro comp? What are the chances the Sox sign him? Yes I know I could look but 15 pages is a s***load He's barely a prospect and Sox don't have any chance at signing him. Carry on.
  22. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 03:59 PM) True enough, but Avi's numbers since 8/1/16 are terrific. I don't believe there's any carryover from year to year. I don't factor in spring training stats because I think they are meaningless so it's tough for me to date back to last year as well.
  23. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 11:43 AM) Avi and Davidson turning into even just semi-productive players goes a long way for a rebuild. I would still bet on neither player being on the next good Sox team.
  24. QUOTE (Lillian @ Apr 15, 2017 -> 05:51 PM) Although it's likely just wishful thinking, my hope is that Avi and Davidson continue to perform well enough to accelerate the rebuild. If that happens, with Quintana remaining part of the rotation until 2021, the Sox could be competitive sooner than we think. I think Avi and Davidson are huge keys in that equation. Of course they aren't going to continue on their current torrid paces, but if they become key contributors going forward, with Moncada coming, the Sox wouldn't have that many holes to fill. Without a couple of established, solid starters, that accelerated rebuild would be very difficult. I love Kopech and Lopez, and am hopeful for Giolito, but counting on all of them is unrealistic. Keeping Q makes zero sense. He'll be in his early thirties in need of another large contract by the time the Sox are good again. They also need the pieces acquired for him to add to the mix.
  25. This is interesting stuff on Giolito: http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/comm...AB8sTHxRs1K5.97
