  1. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Apr 13, 2017 -> 01:37 PM) I think Happ's arm is average or a tick better but not sure about his defense. According to the top 100, Happ looks destined for LF. If we can survive Melky in LF I'm sure Happ would be just fine. His bat and eye are what I'm after. Agree about Davidson and Delmonico. Both should be 1B/DH. I like Saladino and he's fine for third base, I just like Candelerio's age, SH bat and potential for 20HR+ at the 3B position. One thing for sure, Happ and Candelerio both are hot in Iowa right now. Cubs may end up looking to trade Schwarber for pitching and call up Happ. I don't count on the Sox and cubs actually making a trade but it is interesting to talk about because the teams match up so well for a trade. I'm reading Verducci's Cubs book right now and I'd be stunned if they traded Schwarber for anything. Theo loves him. He's their LF forever in my opinion.
  2. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 13, 2017 -> 01:32 PM) Probably not a great sign that I dread Guolito starts rather than looking forward to them. The gun readings are just too depressing, at least he's been pitching same day as Dunning to soften the blow. The Charlotte gun was way off in his last start but yeah he's like 93-94 now
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 12:19 PM) All you have to do is read the Cubs catch all thread on this page to know the unhealthy obsession many Sox fans have with the Cubs... and that is the diehards. The Joe Average guys are even worse about it. I don't associate with idiots enough I guess. Cubs are just another team to me. This s*** ended when I became an adult and 2005 was kind of the end of it all.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 10:31 AM) Yeah, the Cubs would be ideal with their positional prospects, and the guys that are blocked, but I just can't see that happening. Too much off of the field pressures. Joe SoxFan would have a meltdown if Q won the Cubs a World Series. You think so? I don't think it matters. Same people you are talking about where the people being mentioned when it was said "Sox can never rebuild". Most people I've seen have been completely behind the rebuild. If Q brought back Ian Happ and Eloy Jimenez, I generally don't think the majority of Sox fans would care that was in Cubs rotation. I'd actually like it better because I like watching Q pitch and he'd be on locally.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 11:56 AM) All I am saying is if you go back and read Keith Law when KW was in charge, (and I am not exactly a KW fan myself) there is no way you can come to a conclusion he was a neutral observer. I think it has changed a bit since Hahn has taken over, but there still seems to be something there. I think his ranking of Tatis was based on it. I really think the guy has a problem with KW, whatever it is and that has influenced a lot of thinking regarding White Sox prospects over the years. At the end of the day, it really doesn't matter what anyone thinks. It's how they perform. Law's writing is for entertainment purposes only. It would be interesting to see of MLB, BA, BP, Law, and the others, whose rankings actually have been most accurate. It's probably too hard to measure. He doesn't like the way the Sox used to do business. I don't either. KW drafted "athletes" and JR didn't believe in spending on amateurs. That's how you end up with back end starters and former football players with no baseball skills. I blame much of the poor draft history on Jerry Reinsdorf. Law stated a couple years back that things changed under Hahn. I don't believe that he rates White Sox prospects differently because they are White Sox prospects. He loved Kopech regardless. He would have disliked Fulmer regardless of what team he was on. You are entitled to your opinion about Tatis but I think that thought process is nuts personally.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 11:33 AM) He also said it after he had been successful in the major leagues. Good thing Bauman was handling that draft for the White Sox and not the immortal Keith Law. When did I call him immortal? I sense an edginess that I don't really find warranted.
  7. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 11:11 AM) Law was the guy that said Sale would be a future reliever. LMAO. He did. He said it before he was drafted too though. It wasn't like he loved Chris Sale and then changed his mind after the Sox drafted him. That's how people act.
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 11:00 AM) Definitely. He seems to really be taking to the sox org's treatment of him. He has the same pitching coach that he really took to in Zaleski.
  9. QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 10:57 AM) In general he ranks potential higher. In Moncada's case he flopped in the MLB debut. Kopech still hasn't proven anything but he goes by what he could be. He likes to sensationalize the potential which is what people who follow the minors like. He was the low guy on Moncada prior to his big league time.
  10. Charlotte Knights vs Durham Bulls (7:05 ET) Carson Fulmer pitching Montgomery at Birmingham (7:05 CT) Jordan Guerrero pitching Winston Salem vs Down East Zach Thompson pitching Kannapolis vs Rome Alec Hansen is going for Kannapolis vs Rome right now. 3 IP 7 K 1BB 2H. Intimidators up 1-0. RBI Double for Fisher
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 09:36 AM) Who could blame them. No way I'd go HS pitcher #1 after the 2014 draft. I'd take Greene. He's capable of being a top 10 pick at SS too.
  12. I'm waiting for brett05 to chime in on this topic.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 09:22 AM) Do you think Moncada will be able to reduce his K rate in the minors? Or will he always be the type to swing and miss a lot? Frankly I don't care as long as he does damage when he puts the bat on the ball. He could reduce it a little bit. He's not like swing crazy though. He has high OBP's. Guys that are patient and take a lot of pitches tend to strikeout a lot. If he was making weak contact and grounding out a ton people would be praising him for not striking out. It really doesn't make any sense.
  14. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 08:52 AM) I'd bet on that. And if Shane manipulated Cory and Nelson to fight and get themselves booted, he's an evil genius. He's already the MVP of the season. I think Darrel's got this s*** in the bag. He and Laurel have to be considered the favorites right?
  15. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 08:59 AM) Frankie Piliere‏Verified account @FPiliereD1 25m25 minutes ago Pavin Smith had a 4 hit game yesterday for @UVABaseball and continues to become a very intriguing candidate for the #1 overall pick Keith Law thinks Minnesota goes Brendan McKay at #1. He said he'd take Greene but he feels like Minnesota won't just because a HS righty has never gone #1.
  16. I use periods and commas for all intensive purposes.
  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 09:03 AM) I agree with you, but this board is insane with the trashing any negative write-ups on players or prospects as biased and chasing any good reports as the "real" reports. He has Moncada ranked THIRTEENTH. He obviously thinks he is good. Yep. He also thinks Kopech is otherworldly. If his Sox reports are correct, this team is going to be very good.
  18. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 08:39 AM) Seems to criticize Moncada for striking out, but has Meadows ranked above him who has been awful in his first 5 minor league games batting .056 and striking out 9 time in 20 plate appearances Collins has been pretty impressive so far in 6 games, having thrown out 3-4 potential base stealers, only allowing a runner to advance with runners on third and first and he faked the throw to second Meadows is also a solid defender in the outfield though. He doesn't really like Moncada's glove. Not just a ranking on hitting ability.
  19. So it sounds like Chin Coleman will be brought on as an Assistant at Illinois. That should help with the Mac Irvin Fire people. Chuck Martin from Indiana was rumored as well but likely going to South Carolina.
  20. I always just use commas and periods everywhere. Even in text messages. I don't like to appear uneducated.
  21. Keith Law updated his top 50. Basically didn't move any players around from his top 100 but he took out guys that have graduated from prospect status like Swanson, Bell, Benintendi etc: http://www.espn.com/blog/keith-law/insider/post?id=6988 #5 Michael Kopech Best upside of any starter in high minors Potential for 3 plus pitches #1 starter build and delivery that works Command and secondary offerings not major league ready Struck out 10/18 batters in AA debut Top 5 starter in baseball upside #11 Lucas Giolito Up and down showing in spring training Working on restoring old delivery Low 90's 2 seamer more and mid 90's 4 seamer less Transition could mean more AAA time #13 Yoan Moncada White Sox bumped Moncada to AAA even though he came into year with just 53 games above A ball Doing what he usually does, making hard contact when he makes contact and striking out more than you'd like Playing 2B full time again. Law gets criticized by Sox fans because he doesn't think Lopez and Fulmer are starters and he's the low man in the industry on Moncada. He's the high man on Kopech though and still believes in Giolito when many don't. But yes, he hates the Sox.
  22. People are acting like Moncada is Courtney Hawkins
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 02:06 PM) White Sox are doing a Game of Thrones night, complete with a special giveaway. http://m.mlb.com/whitesox/tickets/offers/g...34541-982362913 I'm like the only person in America that has never watched GOT but this is a pretty solid idea. White Sox need to do s*** like this when they're good let alone rebuilding.
  24. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 01:57 PM) Right now the Astros do not NEED Quintana, but given the injury history of many of those players you have mentioned that situation could completely change I understand not wanting to gut the farm at this point, but halfway through the season, when you are in the middle of a division race and you have a fanbase clamoring to win...things can change Definitely. They also need to realize that an injury to the Cubs, Dodgers, Rangers etc could spark a team to just get a Quintana deal done really fast.
