QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 27, 2017 -> 09:03 AM) It benefits the Sox to have him cleared after June 15th, but this is totally out of our control If we sign Robert, great. If not? Then we move on to other guys to sign Hopefully we can find a way to get him This isn't really true. Most of the other guys already have agreements in place with teams. It pretty much seems like Robert or bust at this point which is why I think they end up with him.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 27, 2017 -> 08:49 AM) Very likely that the MLB drags its feet and does not clear Robert prior to June 15th. I think the league frowns upon a team just going nuts in international free agency, hence the new model Sox will be in the mix either way for him I wonder if the Sox would rather have him cleared sooner than later. In the next period, The Sox could offer him $4.75 million. They'd likely have to acquire more $$ to sign him I'd think to a bonus closer to $8 million. If he's cleared now, some think he ends up in STL or SD but Sox could justify spending more than those teams on him in current period. If they really want him, I think they get him. They paid $68 million for Abreu. It's different because of none of that was a penalty but it's still $68 million. They offered $25 million for Jorge Soler. If they think he's worth $50 million they could easily offer $25 million and pay a $25 million tax to take it to $50 million total. It's still just money. I know they haven't typically operated this way but Hahn has hinted towards doing it for the "right" player.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 26, 2017 -> 11:58 PM) The main problem lies in competing with some very rich organizations who can simply outbid the Sox taking the bidding to a place where the Sox feel uncomfortable. Now I am not hip to exactly which signing period will limit spending ,but if neither does, I can't see the Sox spending 30M+ on a prospect especially when you can always spend somewhere around $2 million on some of the better albeit very young prospects if you trust your scouts. The current top Red Sox prospect Rafael Devers cost $1.5M as a 16 yr old. I'm pretty sure there are plenty of other stories like that out there. Those under 300K guys are "you get what you pay for" and "scraping the bottom of the barrel" signees. I am all for going after Roberts but will be miffed if they don't get him and the Sox walk away with bupkis. They really aren't competing with very rich organizations. If they want Robert, they can go get him. It's that simple. I've outlined how in multiple posts and even wrote an article for FutureSox about the prospects of doing so.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 26, 2017 -> 11:00 PM) Then on what are you basing thinking Asche makes the team ? Surely as a non roster invitee if he had sucked there wouldn't be a chance at him making the team. His spring numbers, both power wise and OBP, have been the most impressive of all the Sox . Platoon partner for Davidson. My point was that they aren't dumping Matt Davidson. Avisail f***ing Garcia is still running around. DFAing Davidson before he gets plate appearances with the big league club doesn't make any sense. Are Asche's numbers really good? I don't really pay close attention to spring training stats because they don't matter. I just assumed Asche would make it because Merkin and Hayes were talking about it being likely.

http://www.baseballamerica.com/internation...cWbQlzUdxqFJ.97 The latest on Luis Robert from Ben Badler. Robert will have his first open showcase in the Dominican Republic on Thursday. Sox still mentioned as the team that comes up frequently in connection with Robert.

QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Mar 26, 2017 -> 08:09 PM) I agree Jimmy except on Davidson. I think it might be the end of the road for him. He is lucky that Delmonico has kicked a few balls over at third base in ST games or I think he gawn for sure and the Sox take Delmonico instead, a LH bat who might have more use as a platoon player. I don't take anything out of spring training good or bad. If they wanted to give Davidson a shot this year, nothing that happened during spring should affect those plans.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 26, 2017 -> 09:09 PM) Agreed. Although Bourjos is already drawing trade interest from TB. I think they will just sign a right handed hitting OF that gets cut somewhere else though. This isn't really true. SportsMockery wrote a hack job article stating it as fact. Marc Topkin of TB Times reported Rays would like to add another OF RH bat. Mentioned Bourjos as one of like 6 names. Didn't say anything about a trade. They'll most likely add a guy that gets released.

QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 26, 2017 -> 04:34 PM) I hope Benetti is in and out after a few years. There, I said it. I doubt it. He's the voice of the Sox going forward.
-
It's all about options though. Davidson, Leury, Sanchez, Ynoa will all be on the team because they don't have any options. I think Asche and Bourjos make it as well. Delmonico, Hayes, and May can all be optioned and probably will be. It's just a numbers game.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 08:00 PM) What resources do we not have exactly? Our major league payroll is going to be like 24th in baseball. We've also spent way less on amateur free agents than most of the teams we'd be competing with for Robert. I'd wager we have more cash to work with than most of the teams in the hunt for Robert. It all comes down to whether or not we're willing to endure the penalties that come with signing Robert and based on Hahn's quote the answer is yes. I personally feel like the White Sox are the favorites to land him. It makes too much sense. Ben Badler linked the Sox and he's the best insider when it comes to this stuff. If he's cleared prior to June 15, White Sox can pay him whatever they want and probably won't miss out on much in next year's class because they aren't linked to anyone anyway. If he's cleared after June 15, they aren't linked to anyone for next period and can just use all their money to sign him. If they weren't pretty much going all in for him then their strategy wouldn't make any sense which is why I've been basically reading the tea leaves on this.

The last bullpen spot could come down to Swarzak and Luebke. I figured Luebke because he's LHH and could possibly moved later in season if he's solid. Doesn't really matter though.

With Rodon on the DL, I'll go with this: 1B: Jose Abreu 2B: Tyler Saladino 3B: Todd Frazier SS: Tim Anderson C: Omar Narvaez CF: Peter Bourjos LF: Melky Cabrera RF: Avisail Garcia DH: Matt Davidson Bench: INF/OF Leury Garcia, INF Yolmer Sanchez, C Geovany Soto, INF/OF Cody Asche SP 1. Jose Quintana 2. James Shields 3. Miguel Gonzalez 4. Derek Holland 5. Dylan Covey Bullpen: RHP David Robertson, RHP Nate Jones, RHP Zach Putnam, RHP Jacob Petricka, RHP Michael Ynoa, LHP Dan Jennings, LHP Corey Luebke White Sox need 3 40 man roster spots for this: Luebke, Asche, Bourjos, Soto

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 10:32 AM) SSK, what would you think about a deal with the Pirates that was Glasnow, Bell, Keller and Hayes? You don't get the position headliner, but you get 3 position players that would all be in the top 5 position players in the Sox system immediately. I doubt that deal is on the table, but if I'm Hahn, that's a deal I'd jump at. I guess my point here is that the Sox don't need a position player as a headliner, but they do need the majority of the return to be position players, and position players that are top 150 or so prospects. Those are 3 top 50 prospects, and another org top 6 that is top 100 for some publications. There is zero chance that Pittsburgh would trade all of that.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 10:24 AM) Then why would Hahn still be talking with Huntington if he was insistent on not moving Meadows? It sounds like Meadows is a must for the Sox. I'm not sure that he is talking with Huntington.
-
QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 10:08 AM) Took the words right out of my brain. Nice Job Buehrlesque. From the Sox perspective, they have to get that stud position player in THIS DEAL. Q is their last major trade chip. They can't trade it for more right handed pitching. We have enough of that. Ideally, the Q package only includes position players, or 1 pitcher in a 4-for-1 deal. That's fine. It's not going to be Pittsburgh though. I still think Yankees and Astros most likely.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 09:20 AM) If Meadows is off the table entirely, I don't think the teams would still be talking. I don't buy it. Buy whatever you'd like. Meadows isn't an option. If he were, the deal would have been consummated. I feel like we did this same thing with Trea Turner and Alex Bregman. Not happening.
-
QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 09:20 AM) Nothing to see here then about Q to Pirates then. Move along. Exactly. If Hahn is still insisting on Austin Meadows, then there is no deal with Pittsburgh. The next 7 seasons of Meadows could be more valuable to them than the next 4 years of Quintana. Some Sox fans are failing to understand that. The Pirates aren't trading Meadows. They will trade McCutchen at midseason and plug in Meadows. This is how that team is forced to operate. Quintana doesn't push them past the Cubs. Pirates are probably willing to trade Glasnow, Keller, Newman possibly. Hahn insisting on Meadows is probably why a deal isn't done and not getting done in the future either.
-
The Pirates aren't trading Austin Meadows. He's their McCutchen replacement. Amazing that this still needs to be said.

QUOTE (OklahomaBrave @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 10:14 AM) Braves fan here- From all that I've seen and heard Acuna and Maitan are the two least likely prospects to be traded. Maybe that makes a deal impossible, not sure. I'd guess they are offering something like Albies, Soroka/Newcomb, Riley, lottery ticket. Maybe the Sox like Blair or Wisler and want one as a 3/4/5 piece. If I was another team I'd want to take an opportunity to specifically buy low on Blair. My Braves source from earlier in season said talks centered on Albies, Newcomb, and Gohara coming to Sox. Sox asked for Maitan and Braves balked. Braves also said no to Acuna which is why there hasn't been a deal and won't be with Braves most likely.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 11:48 PM) This board is like America ... changing. So many people want cookie cutter announcers now and actually think Hawk is lousy. My gawd. Hawk does not speak in an annoying announcer voice. Same with Stoney. He is not a plastic announcer. He's real. I must admit I thought Benetti did a nice job last year and had a good rapport with Stone. Sox did a good job of picking Benetti who doesn't seem to be a corporate tool either. So in a nutshell, we've got people on this board wanting the Sox to lose every game. Check. We've got people who do not want to see our best prospects for a long long time on the big league team lest they be "rushed" and "flop like Beckham did." Check. Sad state of affairs. Give me Hawk. Give me rebuilds like the Yankees (spend spend spend and never be lousy!) Give me winning baseball not the crap the Sox have spewed out there in the Robin era. I don't want Hawk to announce games anymore. I hope the Sox lose 100 games. I don't want to see Moncada, Giolito, Fulmer, or Lopez until late May at the earliest. I think your post is about me haha.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 08:18 AM) I was saying if they view him as a 1B and possibly view Beer as an unathletic 1B it could. No it won't. The roster of the ml team and current system has no bearing on who gets taken with a 1st round pick. You always take the BPA.
