  1. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 07:26 PM) One thing to point out...I look forward to seeing how Zipser emerges this year. It will also be interesting to see what happens to Doug in OKC. Will he be better, worse or the same. I'll at least give the Bulls credit for not holding on to him any longer and cutting the chord when they did. Different then how they have handled things in the past (where they'd have waited one more year before they dumped him). Zipser is tied for the lowest PER in the league.......with Cameron Payne.
  2. I actually don't hate it. 1st rounder wasn't coming in return. They can miss the playoffs and trade Jimmy in June.
  3. It's Cam Payne, Morrow, and Joffrey for Taj, McDermott and 2nd rounder.
  4. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 01:21 PM) Geeze...if we trade Taj and don't get Sabonis back I'll be dissapointed. That said, I'd have preferred a 1st round pick for Taj (and would think we could have gotten an unprotected 1st from a contender). We do need to make moves so I'll at least give the Bulls credit for making moves (if that counts for anything) and getting multiple pieces back. So is it Doug and Taj for Payne / Robertson + someone else (presumably Sabonis). They should have traded Taj Gibson last year. That's the problem.
  5. QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 11:21 AM) But they seem to be putting out there that they will only give up the BRO pick for George. If thats the case they are not in for Butler. Not according to Sam Amick and Ramona Shelbourne. Brooklyn pick is in.
  6. Sounds like Boston is all in for Butler or George. Picks and assets available. It's now on the Bulls
  7. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 10:52 AM) Interesting. I wonder if there is protection on that pick, Noel has been pretty damn good this year. Sounds like Dallas pick is protected 1-18. WTF is Philly doing?
  8. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 10:26 AM) ^^^^this is the preferred alternate path^^^^ Sure it is. I think Forman and Paxson getting fired is a pipe dream though.
  9. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 09:07 AM) Look, i know you believe in your one path theory, its great and all, but it has just as much guarantee as wanting this front office to fail hard and get fired for losing corporate sponsorships due to lack of wins. Take a gander at Gars drafting and trading decisions and free agent over his entire career and tell me you think this "path" is the only way to winning a championship. After you say yes, I will sell you some of Dick Allens oceanfront property in Iowa You don't have Jimmy as the asset that he is now once that finally happens though. That's the part nobody talks about. Jimmy is 28 and has played heavy minutes. He's also going to need a massive extension in a couple of seasons. The plan I proposed may not work. I've said that. Adding pieces around Jimmy to be a "playoff team" is stupid though and offends me as a sports fan.
  10. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 08:59 AM) Categorically untrue It is true. If you want to keep Jimmy and build around him you may think you "want to win championships" but it's delusion. Jimmy is really good. You need two more players that are really good. I have no idea where those guys are coming from. Generally, the best players in the NBA are taken really high in the draft. That's how you get premium talent. The Bulls have no path to that talent.
  11. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 08:15 AM) I just don't understand your thought process on the Bulls right now. Why would you be opposed to the Bulls acquiring Okafor? I'd take him over anyone on the Bulls roster right now not named Jimmy Butler. In one breath, you want to trade Butler for young guys, and yet when the Bulls have a chance to pick up a young guy with lots of potential, you don't want him. Okafor is like 20 years old and his upside is tremendous. It's probably going to take a 1st to acquire him. He's not a fit for the modern NBA. It's another guy that doesn't fit the system of the coach you have. He's a terrible defensive player and is unathletic. He can score but he's such a defensive liability that he doesn't really fit what most teams are trying to do. I want them to trade Butler for a nice deal from the Celtics because it's the only thing that makes sense if they truly care about winning titles (which they don't). As a sports fan, I think the point of this whole thing is winning championships. Could they cobble together some pieces around their star and win 50 games? Yes, probably. They can't be a legit contender doing it though which I've stated. Butler is on a cheap deal but they can't add enough around him to compete for championships. And then in 2.5 years he will get a massive deal. They can't add around him fast enough to make it worth it. Trading Jimmy resets the potential championship window. The rookies probably wouldn't be as good as Butler but they are cheaper and offer hope ideally. I understand if you don't trust Paxson and Forman to complete this process but I believe that relying on them to complete the rebuild is still a better option than patching 45 wins teams together and wasting Butler's prime without cashing in that asset. You may disagree but if you do your standard isn't winning championships.
  12. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 07:35 AM) Oh yeah. #CHAMPIONSHIP
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 07:30 AM) Because he has 5 years left on a cheap deal. He is a real little guy, I think his speed will be with him for the duration of the contract. I am not so thrilled with the return. I'm a big fan of Giolito so that's probably why we differ.
  14. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Feb 22, 2017 -> 02:34 PM) McKay just hit his 3rd HR of the season. Had 6 last year. He's on my watch list. Is he going to play a position or pitch in the majors though?
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 07:21 AM) This. And what would one expect Hahn to say? The fact is JR either had to Illitch it (which resulted in zero titles in Detroit) or do some sort of rebuild. I really thought he may Illitch it at one point. I get the Sale trade, but I still don't understand the Eaton trade. I think that one will bite the White Sox. Why don't you understand the Eaton trade? They got a very good return for a speed player in his late 20's. Eaton would have been on the next good Sox team but his prime would be no longer most likely. Eaton was my favorite player on the team even though it seems that he was a giant pain in the ass. That trade had to get made to push this rebuild forward.
  16. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 06:40 AM) I'm not defending Reinsdorf here, I've called him out many times for his various flaws including the ones you described above. But I'm not going to criticize a guy for having a hard time accepting a strategy that might result in him never seeing an above .500 team again in his life. Ultimately he did the right thing for the broader fanbase and not just himself. Again, there are plenty of things to criticize Reinsdorf about, but his feelings on going through a rebuild isn't one of them IMO. I don't care that he feels bad though. He's the primary reason why they had to rebuild. It was the right decision but many, many factors over the years led to finally doing it. He can feel however he wants but he should right in the mirror if he's wondering why this happened.
  17. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 22, 2017 -> 10:48 PM) Thad, I really hope Reinsdorf f***ed your woman or something, because your hatred/obsession with him is honestly out of control. There's absolute nothing wrong with a 81 year old not being excited about going through a multi-year rebuild. Meh. I agree with him in this case. He skimped out on amateur spending for over a decade and pushed his front office to take measures to try and catch lightning in a bottle all over again. Sorry if I don't give a s*** about Jerry Reinsdorf's feelings.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 22, 2017 -> 08:34 AM) Cousins is a coach killer, he isn't Lebron or MJ. He is in his 7th year. Last years 33 wins were the most with him on the team.maybe he won't be a problem in NO, but that would be bucking the trend since high school. They were horrible with him. They will be more horrible without him, but may be better in 6 or 7 years without him, and paying him $240 million wouldn't have made the situation any better. All that said, they weren't going to suddenly be good. And as long as they have the same decision makers, they either need to be incredibly lucky with no brainer selections or they will just suck anyway. What GM says he had a better offer a couple of days earlier but settled for this one? What owner thinks you can run an NBA team like an 8th grade girls team and get the same results? GarPax has been bad, and deserve to go, but it could be worse. They could be Vlade Divac. The Bulls lost a coin flip with the Lakers once so they wound up with David Greenwood instead of Magic. That sucked, but if they won that flip, they never would have had Michael. Maybe something similar happens here. Cousins is a good player, but he has his issues. Maybe they will become awful enough to get the next guy who really transcends the game. It wasn't like Boogie was going to lead them to the promised land. Doesn't mean you trade him for 40 cents on the dollar though
  19. Joe Cowley just throwing daggers at the front office. Someone in his position needs to though: http://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/those-h...ng-bulls-logic/
  20. I wouldn't kick in any money to trade Robertson for Severino. He could be an elite defensive catcher but I'd need more than that in return to pay a big chunk of Robertson's salary. He's not really overpaid. They could trade Robertson at 2/25 at the deadline for a better package than that. Ted Lerner is the 2nd richest owner in baseball and they offered Jansen over $80 million. They can afford Robertson's contract.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 10:56 AM) If the players are already gone in deals that were already agreed on before the new rules giving the Sox the extra $2 million went into existance, there isn't any real way to spend it, unless something happens in Cuba to suck up those dollars. By the time December rolls around the deals for the next year are long since done for the top players. The players can't really all be gone necessarily anymore. The small market teams can trade for max of $10 million total, big market teams at $8.3 million total. There is only so much money to go around now under this new system.
  22. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 10:13 AM) I'd take Soto + Severino, Sox kick in some cash and lets make a deal happen They won't trade Soto for Robertson.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 09:49 AM) Eh, I am not sure why anyone would really expect different this year. These deals were pretty much made before this new cap program came out at a point when the White Sox thought they had about half of the money they do now. Maybe there is a guy or two that had fell through the cracks, but the timeline isn't really there to have been superaggressive in this market. I mean we all knew they were never going to go over allotment, so the fact that they aren't shouldn't reawlly be a shock. The one place they might be able to still make same hay is Cuba. They'll spend the full $4.75 million. During a rebuild, hell during any season, there's no excuse to not acquire more $$ and spend the full $8 million.
  24. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 09:45 AM) Derek Norris? I don't see how he fits what the Sox are doing at all. Is he a good pitch framer? Norris is an excellent framer.
  25. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 09:43 AM) I'm sure Severinos defense is advertised, but, I'm kinda questioning why we are falling over ourselves to get a likely backup catcher. Completely agree here. I'd rather have more upside in a Robertson deal. I'd take Severino along with 2 far away prospects for DRob and like Lawrie or something. Robertson for Severino does nothing for me though.
