  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 02:21 PM) The more I think about it, the more I think Hahn is making a big blunder keeping Robertson on the roster this year. If you want to maximize Jones' value, you get him experience as a closer. Hard to imagine a contender that needs a closer giving up valuable prospects for Jones if he has no closing experience. You can trade Robertson at the deadline and then auction off Nate Jones at the winter meetings.
  2. Tyrod Taylor is pretty underrated actually. He's been playing in a Bills offense with a good running game and no WR. He's 27, throws a good deep ball, can add around 600 rushing yards per year and doesn't turn the ball over. You can win with Tyrod Taylor. I'd much rather sign Tyrod as a FA and draft a QB at some point than trade premium picks for Jimmy Garoppolo.
  3. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 01:17 PM) Pompei never said TO will not get into HOF, Peter King made that allusion. Parkins was a straight up dick to Pompei, for no reason other that he didn't like the reason that he was hearing. It was a pretty dumbass reason. Pompei though Moss would be affected too. Danny Parkins said that Moss' doesn't need a panel of people to decide on his status because he's Randy Freaking Moss. I agree.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 09:55 AM) I know it is probably irrational but I fully expect if we make a trade with the Patriots that Rick Mirer will get off of that plane. The Patriots just scream system. People go there and because super-human, and when they leave, they are never the same. We already saw that with their last back up QB they traded. There are so many things just screaming at me that this will fail, I'd rather just go through the draft and try that way. I'd rather draft a QB as well. With that being said, my top QB target would be Tyrod Taylor if he gets released. I could live with Garoppolo for a 2nd rounder + if Pace believes he's the guy.
  5. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 10:33 AM) Rogers can't be right when he implies Tucker is untouchable. I'm sure it's more like....the Stros dont want him to be, say, a second piece. That they're suggesting other names in that 2nd-guy slot, and we dont like them. Houston doesn't have enough for Q without including Tucker and Martes though IMO. Probably the same way for Rays and A's.
  6. Pompei being a HOF sportswriter doesn't exclude him from criticism though.
  7. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 09:58 AM) There are times I yell at my radio, "Mully! Shut! UP!" His interviews for radio are horrifyingly bad. He can't just ask a question, he has to go on a diatribe about god knows what. And he cuts off Hanley all the time. Not good. As for Spiegel and Parkins...it's not working. They don't have the chemistry. What I like about Spiegel is, he's real. You can hear it in his voice. I can hear his disdain with Parkins. Did anyone hear Parkins interview with Dan Pompei? It was about TO not making it into the Hall of Fame. Parkins was pressing Pompei on the reasons why. I thought Pompei answered to the best of his ability, without jeopardizing the integrity of the room of voters making the decision or calling out anyone in particular. Parkins kept pestering him not liking the answer. And after the interview really kind of gave it to Pompei about not answering to his liking. This is a 30 year old newbie calling out a HoF sports writer less than a month into his new gig. It really put me off as a listener. Parkins has a little shock jock in him, and I don't think that plays well with Spiegs or with Chicago. I liked it. Pompei's reasons were stupid. If T.O. can't get into the Pro Football HOF because of sanctimonious asshole writers, then they should shut the HOF down.
  8. QUOTE (brett05 @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 10:08 AM) Address please...what airline you flying out of to leave this country? Would hate to drop you off at the wrong gate. LOL. I'm not leaving the country.
  9. QUOTE (brett05 @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 09:42 AM) Feel free to pack those bags at anytime. I'll even drive ya. I'm down the road in Lockport. Feel free to stop by whenever you'd like.
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 09:31 AM) brett is someone's bot, right? God I hope so.
  11. QUOTE (brett05 @ Feb 10, 2017 -> 06:44 AM) I do, it's not, it's a ban for a short period of time from 7 countries. It is not a ban on Muslims. 90% of the foreign Muslims are under no such EO. Just stop, please folks, I know you don't like anything that helps America. Please just stop. I don't like things that help America? Please refrain from telling me what to do.
  12. This Phil Rogers piece from tonight says that the Astros have been unwilling to include to include Kyle Tucker in trade talks which is borderline insanity: http://m.mlb.com/news/article/215591558/wh...picid=151437456 It does explain why a deal hasn't been consummated if true.
  13. QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 02:01 PM) Off the top of my head San Diego, Atlanta and Philadelphia, Oakland. I'm sure once I look closely there will be a few others as well. edit: Probably Milwaukee and Miami too. Miami is definitely better than the Sox. San Diego and Philadelphia are the only ones that are definitely worse IMO. 1. Anderson SS 2. Abreu 1B 3. Cabrera LF 4. Frazier 3B 5. Davidson DH 6. Lawrie 2B 7. Garcia RF 8. Soto C 9. Tilson CF That's a bad offense.
  14. QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 02:01 PM) Off the top of my head San Diego, Atlanta and Philadelphia, Oakland. I'm sure once I look closely there will be a few others as well. It's obviously not the only measure but check out how bad fan graphs thinks they are: http://www.fangraphs.com/depthcharts.aspx?...LL&teamid=4
  15. It's obviously not a perfect indicator but check out Frangraphs projections: http://www.fangraphs.com/depthcharts.aspx?...LL&teamid=4 They have Brewers and Padres as only teams worse than the White Sox. 25 collective WAR puts the Sox right in the mix for a top 3 pick IMO.
  16. QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 01:28 PM) The offense won't be that bad. There will be 6-7 teams which score fewer runs. They have 4-5 professional hitters. I agree with the starters except Gonzalez is closer to a 4 than 5. Hopefully, Rodon improves again and can be a 2. It's still decent. Don't forget the pen which will probably be the default strength of the team. Which offenses are worse?
  17. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 01:04 PM) Also, he revealed to me who his source works for, and all I will say is that his source is not affiliated with the Sox, so his source really isn't even an inside guy anyway. It's Charles the Cat isn't it?
  18. QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 01:00 PM) Because some disagree with your evaluations. They have 4-5 MLB hitters, 3 decent starters and a decent bullpen. That's more than many of the bottom tier teams. No one is saying they are any good but they have more talent than more than a few teams. Plus they fired Robin who is the primary cause of their issues last year. I think they will challenge for worst offense in baseball. They'll hit some homers because of Frazier and Abreu. They won't be on base often enough to sustain anything though. They have a #1 starter. A #3 starter (with tremendous upside) 2 #5 starters and Shields who is probably toast.
  19. Sears is saying that the Sox are close to a deal with recently DFA'd Byung Ho Park even though he has to clear waivers first. Lets see if he gets lucky again.
  20. QUOTE (Soha @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 12:14 PM) I'm surprised as well. I think the greatest asset out there for the Sox to acquire to help the rebuild lies in the 2018 draft. So this lack of activity is probably going to cost them big in that draft. It's hard to imagine them being in the top 3-4 picks as the rosters stand now. And even if they do move Q and others at the trading deadline - it will probably be too late to make a run at a top pick. I hope the extra(s) they are holding out for in these trades is worth it. They are absolutely one of the 5 worst teams in baseball. Why do people think otherwise?
  21. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 12:11 PM) He says he does, you say he doesn't. All I know is that I will continue to cautiously monitor things he says relating to the Sox, you can continue to be upset any time his name is mentioned. Thanks for your permission, Chili.
  22. QUOTE (brett05 @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 10:44 AM) Except it's not a ban on Muslims. There is no Muslim Ban, just a way to partisan by liberals. Do you have twitter, Brett? The President has stated numerous times that it's a ban. It's not Democrats making s*** up.
  23. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 09:36 AM) Your predictions don't jive... I will go 78-84, assuming Q or any other major piece isn't moved before the season. Optimistic for sure, but I don't think this team is anywhere near as bad as most everyone here wants them to be. 78 is flat out crazy talk IMO. This is a bad baseball team. How will they score runs?
  24. Some of you guys are either way high on the projections or think Robin Ventura mattered much more than he actually does. This is a really bad baseball team. I think something like 72-73 wins is the most optimistic and that's a stretch. Even with Q, Frazier, Melky, and DRob for half a season, I don't see how they aren't competing to be the worst team in the AL. They have a terrible offense. Not enough power and guys that don't get on-base. I've done this already but a lineup with: Anderson SS/Abreu 1B/ Melky LF/ Frazier 3B/ Lawrie 2B/ Davidson 3B/ Garcia RF/ Soto C/ Tilson CF is way RH and one of the worst lineups in all of baseball. A rotation with: Quintana/Rodon/Gonzalez/Shields/Holland is solid at the top but pretty bad 3-5. The bullpen should be pretty good. They will also be trading players throughout the season and calling up more young guys. The 75-78 win crowd is very optimistic IMO.
  25. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 09:55 AM) I tend to think that Belichick makes Brady look better more than the other way around. The Patriots went 11-5 without Brady in 2008 and went 4-0 in the games he didn't play in this year. There's no one better at turning castoffs and nobodies into good players. Would Brady have been the GOAT with another coach? I don't think so. Belichick doesn't win that Super Bowl with Jimmy Garoppolo though.
