QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 12:14 PM) What does this mean? New SD logo looks like Dodgers logo and Lightning logo had a child together. That's the joke. They are just friends.

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 11:27 AM) I think Balta hit the point on Moncada perfectly above. Given that he's really raw defensively, the Sox need to focus on teaching him a single position defensively. Maybe that's 3B, maybe that's 2B, maybe that's CF, but it needs to start in ST this year. I'm actually very ok with Albies as a headliner if it happens today. If Albies is the headliner, I hope the Sox start working Moncada at 3B this Spring Training. That way there's a clear path for Moncada, Albies and Anderson to all feature in the Sox IF in 2018. I disagree. I think you play Albies at SS in the minor leagues if you acquire him. There's no reason to move him from there until you have to.

What are the Bulls going to do? What is the plan? I heard Mark Schanowski on with Bernstein and Rozner yesterday and he made the situation sound completely hopeless. The Bulls flirted with the idea of trading Jimmy Butler at the draft. They went a different path. They signed Rondo in a pure marketing/desperation move. Then Dwyane Wade feel into their laps. The perceived plan is that Wade and Butler will bring in free agents and they'll remain a fringe contender. The Bulls organization sees value in making the playoffs. They think that's what attracts free agents. Free agents and players like stability. The new CBA has destroyed this plan though. The NBA has basically created a franchise tag. When guys like DeMarcus Cousins will take a 5 year deal in Sacramento at over $200 million, to stay on a terrible team, the plan needs to be altered. I'm not saying that they should definitely trade Jimmy Butler. They should definitely explore the possibility though. I realize that he's a star and that it'd be nuts to trade him. How will they ever get good without dealing him though? They might have 2 1st round picks in the teens this year. They could spin off Gibson for something minor. Then what though? Butler, Wade and some young possible role players? I see only 1 possible solution to this problem. Trade Butler for an absolute haul. Deal Wade for something. Trade Gibson. Bottom out and pick in the lottery for a few years. If you don't hit on those picks, then yes you're terrible. If you hit on a couple though, you can lock those guys up forever. Otherwise, I think this team could add pieces around Jimmy and compete for the 6th seed every year. What's the point of that though?

QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 07:52 AM) The thing that's interesting (and I know this isn't a deciding factor in these negotiations) is that you have a noon show with two Cubs fans and an afternoon show with White Sox fans. In either case, Dan and Spiegs are sort of semi-fans, but their allegiances are well known. Love Jason Goff. He'll be a great match for Bernstein. Spiegs grew up a Red Sox fan.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 10:27 AM) Cowboys aren't gonna get much for him. Teams know they have to move him and with that contract plus his age and injury history. 3rd or 4th round pick. They won't even get that IMO with his contract. I bet they mutually agree on him giving up guaranteed $$ and they cut him.

I think something like: SS Ozzie Albies, LHP Sean Newcomb, LHP Luiz Gohara, and 3B Austin Riley for Quintana would be a really good deal for the Sox.
-
Danny Parkins is like a rising star from Kansas City. He interned with MJH on ESPN1000. He also grew up a Cubs fan and went to New Trier. Now he gets to come home and talk about his favorite team and teams in general. Obviously I'm not a Cubs fan but that's pretty cool.

First of all, I don't have "sources" and have never claimed to. I have a buddy that lives in Atlanta with some contacts, agents and otherwise. He told me today that the teams have definitely been talking. He mentioned Albies and Newcomb specifically. Said Braves reluctant to part with Maitan. Also mentioned that he was told that trading Mallex Smith was "needed". Whether that means the Sox want Gohara, I have no idea. That's all I got.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 12:10 PM) Deadspin just tweeted that Rose thought about walking away from basketball. I swear this dude is a mental midget. Amazing that his ACL injury completely ruined his career. And it's being reported now that he wants a max deal in the offseason. Dude is basically an 11 year old in an adult body. I'm so glad he's not part of the landscape here anymore.

Longenhagen doesn't seem to be a huge fan of their system outside Meadows and Keller: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/top-21-pros...sburgh-pirates/

And this was from Dan Szymborskis chat: Rick Hahn 2:10 Why am I having such a hard time finding a match for Quintana (in a pitching starved market no less)? Dan Szymborski 2:10 I think they're still in the asking for the stars phase. If they don't settle for the moon, then worry.

Here's Dave Cameron's take: Dooduh: Let’s try this again…. why would Glasnow + Bell + 3rd prospect not be enough for the ChiSox to pull the trigger for Quintana? That is a strong package and there’s little reason to believe they are getting any more than that… and holding him accepts risk of poor performance impairing his value. They are not going to get Meadows by holding out any longer. This has to be just a matter of time, no..? 12:42 Dave Cameron: I think Pirates fans are a lot higher on Glasnow than non-Pirates fans. The command is terrible and the stuff isn’t that special. He’s not good enough to be the primary piece in a Quintana trade.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 01:04 PM) I am trying to figure out why this guy is rated so highly with those kind of prospect grades. I mean we are talking about a guy who is going to generate an older Juan Pierre's numbers offensively as the best position player in a deal, and that excites people? What am I missing here? He's going to have high .OBP as well. This part is being ignored.
-
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 12:33 PM) Two scenarios: Meadows + Glasnow/Keller + Newman or Glasnow + Bell + Newman + Diaz I think those ares both too much. I don't think there's any way that the Sox get Meadows. He definitely won't be paired with one of the best pitching prospects in baseball. People need to stop looking at the Pirates prospect list and take a look at top 100 lists. We are using back end top 100 guys as throw ins in these deals and it's completely unrealistic.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 12:26 PM) Give me Meadows, Newman, Keller, and Diaz. Meadows ~ Moncada Newman ~ Kopech Keller ~ Basabe Diaz ~ Diaz I think that's a fair outline. Mike, Keller is a top 50 guy in some publications and will be when new lists are updated. That's too much IMO. How is a ML ready catcher the same as a fireballing reliever in A ball?
-
QUOTE (Mattchoo @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 12:15 PM) My ideal scenario remains a trade with PITT that gets Austin Meadows. He is a perfect piece for both need and value from dealing Q. I don't know how to build a fair package around him though... and I would bet the GM doesn't want to give him up. But if I'm the GM of the Sox, I'm not budging from that stance. It has to be Meadows or no deal. So... trying to be real..... If the PITT GM actually is willing to do it, what is fair? I think Meadows, Glasnow, and Newman. 1 for 3 swap. Thoughts? That would be much better than the Sale return. There's no chance of this. Meadows and Glasnow are both top 10 prospects in baseball and Newman is a top 50 guy. If Meadows is involved, I'm guessing something like Meadows, Hayes, Diaz, flyer
-
QUOTE (beautox @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 11:40 AM) Newman does nothing for me but scream Gavin Cecchini / Ryan Theriot, that is not the hitting prospect i want headling the package for Q. Newman can stay at SS and will hit with a high .OBP. That's your prerogative though.

QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 12:15 AM) So happy to see Bama go down and flames. f*** them! Why? -
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 08:15 AM) Glasnow/Newman/Keller is interesting, but we still need one more additional player along the lines of Hayes or Diaz to have the deal make sense for the White Sox. I don't feel like either the Astros or Pirates is close to getting a deal done from the rumors we have heard Glasnow, Newman, and Keller easily gives the Sox the #1 system in baseball. That's a lot. Good enough to move 4 years of Q? I don't know.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 08:17 PM) Rum Bunter also says the Pirates are less likely to trade Bell than Meadows. If that's the case, the 3 player package is most likely Glasnow/Newman/Keller which would be disappointing. That's a good deal from the Pirates end though. The problem we have with that deal is it's so pitching heavy. Glasnow is a top 10 prospect in baseball. Newman is somewhere in 35-50 range. Keller is rising and will most likely be top 50. That's 3 top 50 guys for Q. That's a lot of s***. It's just not the package packed with position players that we are expecting. If they added KeBryan Hayes or another high upside type and possibly their Competitive Balance pick then that's a fair deal. Not sure I'd be super excited because of the lack of position players but Glasnow/Newman/Keller trumps anything the Astros can do.

Update: Luis Robert has been cleared according to Rosenthal

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 04:53 PM) He may be, that is the new economics of the international FA market. With so many teams already having money committed to signings this summer, a bunch of teams restricted from making signings, that leaves teams like the Sox and Orioles with room from last season or the list of teams that are about to go on timeout. The Sox also have the option of perhaps trading a guy off the 40 man roster to a team that has extra bonus money left over like the Marlins or Orioles or a combination of teams. I just meant that if he signs during this period, it won't be with the White Sox. Only shot Sox have is if he's eligible after June 15th. -

Feel free to grab a thread I created a month ago about the new International Signing rules as well if you want. I thought it was interesting but nobody really looked at it. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 01:54 PM) http://www.baseballamerica.com/internation...l7qhZ49hsvhS.97 So we had 3.443 million, and know we spent 2 million So if the latter 3 were 100k or less, then we could have 1.1 million to spend. There's now way this kid takes that. They could sign him for whatever they want. Just won't be able to spend over $300,000 per guy next year. That's a problem though. It's also a waste because if you are going to go over, you should sign like $30 million worth of players or it isn't worth forfeiting the next year.
