  1. Sounds like wishful thinking but it would be ideal if the Sox could spend over their pool amount for 2017 and then International Draft takes effect in 2018.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 07:30 AM) I love that they are going to raise the signing age to 18 instead of 16. I believe it said that players would have to be 18 by 2021. They could still be signed as 16 year olds.
  3. QUOTE (Dunt @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 05:54 PM) I really don't think they rebuild. I am thinking they do end up dealing Sale, but instead of rebuilding, it's sort of a retooling. Move Sale and get JBJ, Devers, Kopech, and Rodriguez and then grab someone who can play LF and move Melky to DH. If they did something like that, next year could be really interesting: Eaton RF JBJ CF Abreu 1B Cespedes LF Melky DH Frazier 3B Saladino/Lawrie 2B Avila? C Anderson SS Quintana L Gonzalez R Rodon L Rodriguez R Fulmer R They aren't giving up the 12th pick in the draft to sign Cespedes
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 10:31 AM) Again, I will credit Loggains for getting back on track. I was scared after first two games that he was unable to do what Gase had, which was sustain long drives (even if unscoring) to keep defense off field and limit total opportunities for opposing offense. Yesterday was THAT times ten, and until we get a more opportunistic defense, I think it's a great strategy. Re: mcnown. That mcnown-marcus robinson year was really fun. One of the losing seasons you are fine with because it seemed like things were trending. Back on track? They've scored the fewest points in the league and he has Hoyer averaging 45+ passing attempts per game. He should have been fired today.
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 10:57 AM) It took a couple of years, but I feel like O'Donnell has turned into a pretty damn good punter. I think his net average is the worst in the NFL actually. It was last week.
  6. Bears played a ton of these winnable games last season. They just had a QB that was able to overcome everything else and win a few of them. Hoyer is not that guy.
  7. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Oct 14, 2016 -> 10:01 AM) Title is wrong. Capra is new 3B coach. Hasler is new bullpen coach. My bad. Can a mod fix it for me? Thanks.

  9. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Oct 13, 2016 -> 12:12 PM) Unless Arrieta gives a discount he's going to be paid in the $30M per year range in free agency. That would mean in 2018 they would have roughly $86M tied up in just Heyward, Lester and Arrieta. That is a hell of a lot of money for any team to have committed to just three players. I think if they win the world series, they will trade Arrieta this winter.
  10. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 13, 2016 -> 01:04 PM) Talent wise they were loaded but apparently something just didn't mesh right. It was frustrating because if they snuck into the playoffs they would have been able to throw a cy young caliber Loaiza, Colon, Buehrle and Garland at people with 2 of the best relievers in baseball at the back end of the pen, not to mention all the big bats. Frustrating team. Yeah that team was fun. Magglio, Lee, and Rowand in the OF. Konerko, Crede, Valentin, Robby Alomar and Everett. Tom Gordon and Marte were both really good. 86-76. Just not enough
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 12, 2016 -> 07:12 PM) So then ... the problem isn't Loggains, it's Hoyer. Clearly bears offense has improved, along with Loggains play calling. He did get a wide open Jeffery that was missed. It's both. Loggains ran the ball 17 times. He let Brian Hoyer throw on 70% of their offensive plays. It's really dumb.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 12, 2016 -> 11:19 AM) The other side to the 4 vs 6 years argument is Jake Arrietta. He had plenty of roster time before he got to the Cubs. If it is a guy you like, and a guy that fills a hole, I see nothing wrong with it. When are the Sox planning on being good again though? If it's 2 years from now, then your CF is on a 2 year deal. Unless JR decides to pay Bradley which is doubtful. He is a Scott Boras client.
  13. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Oct 12, 2016 -> 08:30 AM) How different the series would have been if they had gone after Chapman. . They probably did. Didn't have a Gleyber Torres to trade though.
  14. Week 9 Loyola vs Brother Rice game is huge. They are currently #1 and #2 by points and record in 8A. The winner will be the #1 seed in the 8A playoffs. The loser most likely falls all the way down to #9 though with an 8-1 record. One of Loyola/BR, On of Palatine/Barrington and Hinsdale Central, Neuqua Valley, Homewood Flossmoor, Oswego, St. Charles East, and possibly West Aurora should all be 9-0 teams. As a matter of fact, it looks like the top 18 teams in 8A will be 9-0 or 8-1. Should have at least 1 8-1 team on the road in the 8A playoffs. It's crazy.
  15. I would let Boston keep Moncada and Jackie Bradley Jr. I would ask for 6 players in return though Boston Receives: LHP Chris Sale White Sox Receive: CF Andrew Benintendi, 3B Rafael Devers, RHP Michael Kopech, LHP Eduardo Rodriguez, C Blake Swihart, and OF Luis Alexander Basabe. JBJ Only has 4 years of control. I'd rather have Benintendi and his full 6 years. I can't see them moving Moncada after spending the amount $$ they have on him. Devers and Basabe are significant prospects with the offensive upside they provide. Rodriguez can go right into the Sox rotation. They have loved Swihart for years and he would join the big league team with Benintendi and Rodriguez. Kopech is just the type of guy that the White Sox could get the most out of. Adding him to (Hansen, Adams, Fulmer, and Stephens) would give White Sox a nice young stable of RHP. The Dodgers are another team that has what it takes. They'd need to include Urias though. I think something like Urias/Bellinger/Verdugo/Barnes/Lux would be a fantastic deal but not sure Dodgers trade all of that. That's a killer haul.
  16. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Oct 12, 2016 -> 07:07 AM) The Cubs definitely aren't as good as people thought they would be. I assumed they'd throttle the Giants, and that didn't happen. I think they are definitely vulnerable if they have to go up against LA or Toronto. They are the best team in baseball. It doesn't matter in October though because of variance. Conor Gillaspie is perfect example of it.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 11, 2016 -> 09:44 AM) Re: The Red Sox, I can see them trading one of their OF, I can't see them trading both Benetiendi AND JBJ, unless they think Moncada (and obviously isn't in the deal) is ready to play out there today. If they trade both, they create a hole out there. They already have a large hole to fill in Ortiz. I think the White Sox would be able to get one of Ben and JBJ for a deal to make sense for both sides. Personally I could see the White Sox settling around JBJ, Moncada, and a couple of pitchers. Koepech is obviously a guy who will get their attention, plus a guy like Groome can be dealt after the World Series as well. If not you could sub a guy like Devers for one of the pitchers. I don't want Bradley with 4 years of control. I want players with 6 controlled years.
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 10, 2016 -> 02:03 PM) Also Mea Culpa to Dowell Loggains. Not really. Jordan Howard had 16 carries and Loggains threw the ball 70% of the time with Brian Hoyer as his QB. Not a recipe for success.
  19. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 8, 2016 -> 11:38 AM) 77 straight was quite the conference run. That conference blows
  20. QUOTE (oldsox @ Oct 8, 2016 -> 06:43 AM) The MLBPA does not agree with you. They are stupid though because it would likely result in more $$ being offered for players with QO attached to them
  21. QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Oct 6, 2016 -> 04:26 PM) No it's not, Top 10 are protected so the Sox just fell short of that. I honestly think the top 20 picks or so should be protected. If you didn't make the playoffs, you should have a protected draft pick.
  22. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 6, 2016 -> 11:10 AM) That stress fracture took a LONG time to come back from it seemed. This new injury scares me as well even though it should be straight forward. This is a way easier injury barring surgery. Broken Fibula usually about a 6 week process. I think we could see him this season again if they deem it worth it to be honest.
  23. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Oct 5, 2016 -> 02:39 PM) White injury prone looking like a wasted pick. Saying he's injury prone is lazy TBH. He overtrained for the combine and caused a stress fracture in his shin. This is an isolated helmet shot to the fibula. Broken bones don't make you injury prone. It's just a violent game. You can chalk them both up to luck in this case. It's not ideal though obviously because he needs as many reps as he can get.
  24. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Oct 5, 2016 -> 10:52 PM) I think Hahn is definitely going to "go for it". At this point, not only do I think Hahn will "go for it", he will drop his earlier proviso of helping the current team "without hurting the future of the organization". As such, I wouldn't be surprised if any player under 25 were dealt. Look for McCutchen....has 2 years left, off of a terrible year, and I believe that the Pirates will peddle him: 3 qualities that attract and are loved by Hahn. They would be far better of identifying young OF and trading for them...but that takes scouting and talent evaluation skills and trade savvy... Thus the zeal for the "proven" player, even though the proven players that Hahn selects consistently underperform. Personally, I would trade Sale to firm up 3 positions.. I think current team and farm could get better with the right moves. I completely disagree. He's rebuilding. He's talked about how Sox fans are ready for it. He also said that "they've tried the adding FA route" to patch it together. Key word there is "tried". They don't have the pieces to move. He's also talked about how it's a poor free agent class. I'd be stunned if they gave up the 12th pick in the draft to sign a free agent as well. I think Sale gets moved early in the offseason and they go from there.
  25. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 5, 2016 -> 12:24 PM) Hes made of glass He never had any injury concerns in college either. Just a rough sport. Bears are missing their starting QB, RB, WR2, CB1, NT, #1 Pass Rusher, Starting ILB, C, and #3 Pass Rusher. It's just ridiculous.
