QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 13, 2016 -> 03:24 AM) http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/07/2017...rankings-4.html Obvious White Sox FA targets: Bautista/Encarnacion (both too old but won't stop a team from overpaying) Josh Reddick Ian Desmond (this time the cost will be 4-5 years and $60-80 million) Kenley Jansen or Aroldis Chapman (if they trade Robertson, which is highly unlikely) Wilson Ramos/Wieters (two obvious catching targets) Dexter Fowler Mark Trumbo Michael Saunders Carlos Gomez/Colby Rasmus Neil Walker Rich Hill Not a whole lot of talent at all to spread around the entire majors, this time around. Almost nothing on the starting pitching market, just a lot of spare parts and veteran relievers... And they can't really give up their 1st round pick to sign somebody.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 13, 2016 -> 01:20 AM) Which is, once again the reason why Lawrie, Frazier, Cabrera and Robertson won't be traded. The ONLY one of those that's defensible is Robertson, based on: 1) Clearing $22 million in salary (which can be used for a hitter/hitting/bench) 2) Believing Nate Jones is ready to step in 3) Having confidence that Fulmer/Burdi/Hansen/Danish/Ynoa/Guerrero/Stephens can help to fill the bullpen void this year and next 4) Getting back some additional pitching help in that deal...although hitting's the primary target as outlined below 5) Belief that one of Putnam/Petricka makes it back for next season (at the same performance level) Of course, if you're trading with the Cubs (for Robertson), you're asking for Baez or Almora, Jr., back in return. Almora can play CF, so you keep Eaton in RF. Not sure how ready they are to trade Baez. I think they're hedging their bets, and have already moved on from the idea of Soler being a significant contributor. That said, there's going to be a jam of DH/corner outfield types if Contreras doesn't stick at catcher and Schwarber isn't traded. I guess McKinney's the other player they would be targeting....as well as Vogelbach, although he seems to be one of those guys who puts up huge numbers in the minors but ends up a AAAA player in the end. Then again, he could surprise everyone, the "overlooked" prospect who made good despite being hyped less than guys like Lake and Alcantara. Why do you keep bringing this up? The Sox aren't trading Robertson to the Cubs. It's just not happening.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 12, 2016 -> 10:56 PM) I agree that there is close to zero chance that Hahn/Williams trade Frazier. But if they shore up other spots via that trade, they certainly could compete. He's no difference maker. Saladino should be getting more at bats the way this team is stacked up anyway. it would be nice to see what they have in him (although eagle-eye Hahn is likely convinced he's a utility infielder). While I realize that the prime motivation in drafting Burdi was this year's pen, it would be ridiculous to bring him up. I'm also convinced that Saladino is a utility infielder. He's a good one though.
-
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 12, 2016 -> 11:08 PM) If the Sox are going to utilize Saladino he needs to play some OF to go along with his infield skills. I know he hurt his arm ( elbow ?) making a throw from the OF in the minors but so what . If he wants to play more and get more AB's than Avi he should be all for it. He's fast enough and athletic enough to play OF decently and would be worth more. Saladino can't play the OF anymore.
-
It's fair to give Jose more time but the bottom line is he hasn't been good enough. With the way this team is built, he needs to be a lot better to give them a chance.

I honestly don't think that this year and next needs to be the end. Keep drafting well and spending internationally. The Sox have Sale, Rodon, Quintana, and Fulmer locked up for forseeable future. Anderson, Abreu, and Eaton are signed as well. I wouldn't be shocked to see the Sox extend Lawrie and Frazier as well. They'd still need a CF, DH, and C but they need all those things anyways. They'll need to raise the payroll but this is a better course of action than tearing it down completely when the hope is that you'll acquire guys as good as some guys that they already possess.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 11, 2016 -> 02:00 PM) Just think if we had Anderson, Semien and Trayce! Wow we'd be excited and praising our system. Instead, two horrific trades letting Trayce and Semien go. As much as we rail on our system, we had 3 studs right there home grown and let two go. Trayce Thompson isn't that good. The White Sox rightfully sold high. He started the season off well but has fallen off since. On the year Trayce is: .738 OPS, 100 wRC+, 13 homers, 0.4 fWAR. Todd Frazier in a down year for him is trending upward and looks like this: .781 OPS, 104 wRC+, 0.9 fWAR, and he's on pace to hit 45 homers. I'll take Frazier.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 11, 2016 -> 11:38 AM) It's nice to know they're not intent on rushing Collins like it appears they're read to do with some of the pitchers (as relievers). The main problem is that 2017 is setting up as their final "all in" year...and the market for catching is looking pretty bleak for the moment, so we're back to "band aid/dumpster diving" solutions again. Nothing we can do about it, but it would be awesome to have him for the second half of 2017...and maybe that still happens. It would be like pulling off a trade, just like injecting Tim Anderson into the line-up has been this year. Looking at the future, you have a core of Anderson, Abreu, Eaton and Collins. But that still leaves five potential holes for 2018 in LF, CF, 3B, 2B (that's easier to imagine Saladino/Sanchez filling) and DH. I also don't realistically think Saladino can play 3rd, Sanchez 2B and still have enough power (been there, done that)...but somehow we need to come up with at least two more power bats (corner outfield/DH/another infielder at either 2B/3B with pop). Hard to project Engel/Trey/May as future starters right now. At any rate, getting a 750-800 OPS out of Collins will help a lot. And maybe, JUST MAYBE, Hahn finds one big bat in July/August this year...but this has to be the biggest concern for Sox fans when they look at 2017, 2018 and on into the future. Doesn't even have to be LH power (shout out to Lillian), but just any legit power/OBP combo. 2017 doesn't have to be their all in year though. Sale, Q, Rodon, and Fulmer are all locked up. Abreu, Anderson, and Eaton are all signed. I would not be stunned if the Sox signed Lawrie and Frazier to extensions honestly. They'd need to fill C, CF, and DH but they need to do that anyway.

The White Sox have the best pitching of all those teams. Need to hit and beat teams in the division though.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 10, 2016 -> 10:52 PM) His advanced stat numbers aren't that bad. His tradition stat numbers .266 11 HR, 52RBI aren't the worst ever, either. He's still a keeper IMO. Which advanced stats aren't that bad?

George King of the New York Post has the White Sox as a potential fit for Beltran. http://nypost.com/2016/07/10/yanks-could-h...-morneau-fails/
-
I think Morneau will be in the lineup Friday in Anaheim. Beck was sent down. They already have 7 relievers and don't need a starter until Sunday or Monday. I think that's the roster move.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 10, 2016 -> 09:01 PM) The Sox are silly for waiting 3 more weeks to make any moves for a pen arm and bat. They should get a bat during the all star break. Yes Morneau is going to be ready but that's not enough. I'm sure they're trying. I'm not sure they have enough to outbid other teams for Bruce, CarGo, or Reddick. All of those guys would also require Eaton to move back to CF. I would target Steve Pearce and Derek Norris and get the pitching help from within with Fulmer, Burdi, and Goldberg.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 10, 2016 -> 12:30 PM) f*** the haters. Save situations: He's 23/25. Just 3 earned runs, ERA of 1.04. WHIP of 1.00, opponents hitting .187/.257/.242/.499 (so much for that always making it interesting bulls*** too). 11.1 k/9 ERA of 8.71 in non save situations but hey, that's not why we pay him the big bucks. Stop the hate. You're wrong. Well said. I'm stealing this for twitter. Thanks.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jul 10, 2016 -> 09:47 AM) The reality is that in this the 22nd year of the existence of the AL Central, with small market Cleveland well on its way to wining this division for the eighth time, you combine that with how many times the other two small market teams have won the division, and you'll see that the large market White Sox, with its resources advantage, has been aced a whopping 15 times by a small market team over that 22 year period. 15 division titles between Cleveland, Minnesota, and KC, and just three for the Sox. This despite the Sox being the only team in the bunch with a sweetheart lease deal in place that allows them to keep far more of its revenues than those other teams can. It's clear what those other teams lack in $$$ resources they make up for in superior front office capital running those organizations. So yes, the reality is more of the same until that time when a change at the top finally occurs. And 2 of those teams have done the only thing that matters which is win a world series. Neither of them is the Indians. And one of them was put together by our current management team that is in place.

David Robertson didn't pitch in a 1 run save situation

QUOTE (captain54 @ Jul 10, 2016 -> 11:51 AM) You called me out for being irrational and negative when I mentioned the BP as a whole cant be judged by a single stretch of good numbers that skewed the stats as far as getting a true pic of the quality of the pen Now you are saying Robertson can't be judged by a single stretch of bad numbers..that it doesn't reflect the quality of his overall performance. So which one is it? Pick a lane, man It's not a stretch. It's one appearance. Take away that outing in Kansas City and nobody is talking about this. I'd trade Robertson in the offseason and go with Burdi and Jones because I don't believe in paying relievers but Robertson is pretty damn good. -
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 9, 2016 -> 11:57 AM) If a team overpaid for him he'd be gone. I disagree. They want to keep him.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 9, 2016 -> 09:41 AM) Hopefully this is just a way to grab him an extra rest and manage his innings load. Fulmer? This makes sense.
