QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 29, 2016 -> 11:57 AM) Is this true? I'm not sure how the budget is run for the organization. However, could there be a scenario where JR says "here's the budget, spend how you see fit." From this KW/Hahn decides not to put as much in the INTL market and instead focuses elsewhere? No chance. If they aren't going over, Jerry is the reason. Jerry doesn't believe in paying amateur lottery tickets that much money. It's why the drafting sucked forever. Reinsdorf would rather spend that $$ on the big league club instead of on amateurs. It's why he pushed for the new slotting system. KW liked toolsy athletes and JR liked saving money. That's how you settle for the Keenyn Walker's of the world. There is now way that Hahn can decide to spend $20 million on the INTL market and pay a 100% overage without getting it cleared first.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 29, 2016 -> 11:32 AM) The Tatis/Johnson price was rumored well before the Seattle blowup. Hahn is like his mentor re trade negotiations. One could wonder if that money paid for Shields, some Laroche savings, couldn't have gone into the international market for this year, into which Hahn, apparently, is making a paltry investment. You do realize that the INTL market and how much they spend is absolutely dependent on Reinsdorf right? You can criticize Hahn for trades and signings. Not going nuts on the international market is strictly an ownership decision though.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 29, 2016 -> 10:06 AM) That's the sick thing...they thought about this trade for weeks and still f***ing did it. It was fine though. Shields got rocked in 1 start, the one prior to the deal. They didn't give up anything and they are paying below market value for what they thought they were getting. Shields obviously has to be better.

Tim Anderson was never discussed for James Shields. I mean I'm sure the Padres asked but GTFOH. Barstool Dave DM'ed me the trade details a week prior to it actually happening on twitter. Erik Johnson and Fernando Tatis were the names I heard from the inception.
  6. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jun 28, 2016 -> 11:31 PM) This year, I don't want any free agents to come here. I want room for two maxes next year. I agree with this. Trade Taj and Mike Dunleavy. Sign a couple of fee agents to 1 year deals and go with it preserving the cap space for next season.
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 29, 2016 -> 07:56 AM) Anything less than 14-7 the next 21 should make the Sox sellers. So these next two are kinda must wins. What are they selling though? Avila, Navarro, Ajax, Albers, are their only free agents. I think they keep Frazier, Lawrie, Melky, etc because they want to compete in 2017. This isn't easy to do and they definitely aren't rebuilding.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 28, 2016 -> 11:25 PM) Burdi, Hansen and Fulmer can take the place of Robertson/Jones at a fraction of the cost. They're going to have to do something dramatic to change this team. Paying Robertson that kind of elite closer salary two years in a row on middling teams is absolutely pointless. If Fulmer is a reliever, the Sox need to deal him to a team that thinks he can start.
  9. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jun 29, 2016 -> 03:36 AM) On MLBN draft day, they were asked if Schwarber comp was fair and one of the guys said no way. Collins has a glove at least. Forget which one analyst it was. Either callis or mayo. Schwarber has more power. Collins has on base skills that this team just doesn't have. I'd be thinking 25-30 homers and tons of walks.
  10. Schanowski wrote in his story tonight that Bulls want to re-sign Etwaun Moore and he'll cost $8-$10 million per year. That's f***ing crazy talk, man.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 28, 2016 -> 04:48 PM) Interestingly, Torotno's pitching staff actually has the 3rd best ERA in the AL. The White Sox's staff has slightly more fWAR, but it's closer than I'd have guessed had I not looked (Sox are 7th, Blue Jays 9th in MLB in fWAR). Blue Jays and Red Sox have also both had comparably difficult schedules to the White Sox. Oh yeah I know. I'd rather have the Sox staff than either of those pitching staffs though.
  12. All sorts of rumors that Harrison Barnes was in Chicago today. Could be anything though. He was HS teammates with Doug McDermott
  13. Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin Jun 27 Chicago, IL Pioneer League Player of the Week, 1B @Zangari49: .440, 2 HR, 8 RBIs in 7 games for Great Falls 3 retweets 8 likes
  14. Bruce Levine ‏@MLBBruceLevine 2m2 minutes ago Justin Morneau said 30 at bats will be enough when he is sent out on rehab assignment. My best guess July 15th with big club
  15. QUOTE (spiderman @ Jun 28, 2016 -> 04:28 PM) On days that Chris Sale is pitching (and Quintana should be near that category), the White Sox are about as good as any team in the majors. 3/5 of the time, though, the team isn't very good. Saying that, I'm confident that, most days, the Blue Jays and Red Sox (and probably the Astros) are better than the White Sox. The Blue Jays and Red Sox have better offenses. Sox have better pitching.

  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 28, 2016 -> 10:20 AM) That shocks me as every great falls update I see Zangari 0-4 3 ks since his demotion. Where are the good Zangari tweets. He is striking out way too much but he's 19 and has incredible power
  18. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 27, 2016 -> 09:21 AM) Ben Badler at Baseball America dropped their top 30 international prospects today: http://www.baseballamerica.com/internation...vO7alBk8R52r.97 The White Sox are not linked to anyone. White Sox are rumored to be signing 9 prospects this year with one large signing. OF Luis Mieses for 500k is the only prospect I've seen linked to the Sox so far. http://www.baseballamerica.com/internation...DlVjA2Qzpstr.97 There is the INTL Top 50 from BA. Here are the write-ups: http://www.baseballamerica.com/internation...gEyU6skOD5mP.97 White Sox are signing the #33, #36, and #37 prospects on Badler's list. #33 Josue Guerrero OF Dominican Republic 6-0, 185 lbs, 16 years old Vlad Guerrero's Nephew $1 million bonus Not at level of Vlad Jr. Brother of DBacks prospect Gaby Guerrero Corner OF Best tool-Power Aggressive Approach Limited athlete and runner with below average arm #36 Luis Mieses OF DR 6-4 185 L-L Big Offensive Upside Could put another 40 lbs on long, large frame Hits and Hits for power Below Average Runner Above Avg Arm $500K bonus #37 Anderson Cosma OF DR 6-4 170 L-L Same trainer as Gregory Polanco Tall, physically underdeveloped Smooth easy stroke Calm hitter, short clean swing Knack for hitting Similarities to Polanco
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 28, 2016 -> 10:20 AM) His K/PA is the stat I'd be most focused on right now. With that number at 40%, I don't see anything I'd call actual progress. Of course I'd really rather see him in person, but I don't think I'm getting to Montana in the next couple months. He's 19. I'll worry when he's a bit older.
  20. Corey Zangari was terrible at Kannapolis. His start since being sent to Great Falls is promising though in 40 plate appearances: .324/.375/.676 with 3 HR and 10 RBI. He does have a crazy high .500 BABIP and a K% of 40% but a great .351 ISO with a wRc+ of 151.
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 28, 2016 -> 09:13 AM) Man what a disaster year 2 for him. He was terrible at Kannapolis. His start since being sent to Great Falls is promising though in 40 plate appearances: .324/.375/.676 with 3 HR and 10 RBI. He does have a crazy high .500 BABIP and a K% of 40% but a great .351 ISO with a wRc+ of 151.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 28, 2016 -> 08:57 AM) http://www.nbadraftroom.com/p/2017-nba-mock-draft.html Looks like a lot of first and second year collegiate players...not seeing all these potential franchise-altering superstars yet, guess we have to let the NCAA season play out first. Class of incoming Freshman is really good with: Josh Jackson and Harry Giles leading the way
  23. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 28, 2016 -> 08:07 AM) Yesterday we posted the in-person reports from Winston-Salem. Today, here are the 7 interviews I got, with some of the key names in Winston-Salem. Y'all will focus on Burdi, but make sure to read Bautista and Lowry too, at least. Some good tidbits in both of those. I think Jordan Stephens will be a top 10 prospect in the system within the next year.
  24. QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 28, 2016 -> 08:09 AM) KC Johnson on the Score this morning said that nothing he has heard or seen would indicate the Bulls are going to give any large contracts to anyone in FA. They are gearing up and clearing a ton of space for two years from now. Cant Jimmy opt out two years from now? I think we'll see short deals for guys like Brandon Jennings and Evan Turner. Allows them to semi-compete in the East and possibly deal those guys in season if they wanted to.
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 28, 2016 -> 06:02 AM) Arodys Vizcaino Alex Colome Mark Melancon Fernando Rodney Brad Ziegler A.J. Ramos Jeremy Jeffress David Phelps And the price we're willing to pay, if anything...? Assuming the White Sox are waiting on Morneau and/or the deadline trade market to heat up...and that they're also kicking the tires on more back-end starting rotation candidates (Fausto Carmona, come on down!), would you give up more top 10 pieces (not named Fulmer) to solidify the currently weak bullpen and possibly even help turn it back into a strength? Or a Brett Myers/2012-like move, where you're not going for one of the best performers, rather a veteran with a long history and a decent-sized contract his team wants to dump in order to save money for 2017? I would add Sean Doolittle and Will Smith to this mix
