QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 24, 2016 -> 11:26 AM) For a full rebuild, needed to ship Jimmy and Taj. I don't blame them for not shipping Jimmy as the deals for him weren't up to snuff. It's not really a full rebuild but they are still going to be pretty bad. I'd rather be really bad than pick 13th next year though.

QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 24, 2016 -> 11:24 AM) Yes and like I said, they need to get younger. They need to gamble on some young guys that have potential to be better that the old that they currently have. I guarantee that there will be SOMEBODY that was picked in the 20-30 picks that turns out to be a better player than Taj one day. Absolutely. I think PG DeJOunte Murray can be a star. Spurs stole him at 29.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jun 24, 2016 -> 11:12 AM) So trading Rose was terrible because of the crap they got back (even though they got a legit NBA center and a potential roster player in Grant), but you guys are upset the Bulls DIDN'T trade Taj for, at best, a role player? I'm fine with the Rose trade. I just think they should cash in as many of the veterans on short deals as possible. I don't think Taj Gibson has as much value as some but I'd love to be wrong. But yeah, I think their top priorities at this point should be to try and deal Dunleavy and Taj. They have no future with the Bulls. This isn't a playoff team and they should let the younger guys play to see who they have for the foreseeable future.
-
There is absolutely no reason why Taj Gibson should be on the Bulls to start the season. Portis and Mirotic need those minutes, he's in his early thirties, and is a free agent after the season. By all means though, keep him and try to get the 7th seed in the East.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 24, 2016 -> 10:17 AM) Glad that Jimmy trade didn't go down. Trading him for a #5 pick in a not strong draft would have been horrendously dumb. Could probably get a much better haul at deadline if they decide to. Not a fan of valentine. Thought bulls would take advantage of teams like Hawks/Celts that needed to unload picks. But, Bulls. I don't love the Valentine pick but he's solid. It was a really bad draft. I think the Bulls were smart to not deal Butler. I would have been on board with dealing him but not for the reported offers. KC Johnson said Minnesota offered #5 and Ricky Rubio. Why would the Bulls do that? I don't really think Minnesota has enough without Wiggins. Boston did but decided to not pony up.

I'd be fine with dumping Taj and Dunleavy for 2nd round picks and just going super young behind Jimmy. The problem is, they'll have like the 12th pick or something again next year because they'll probably win like 36-41 games or so. I feel like Dunleavy and Taj shouldn't be taking minutes away from Portis, Mirotic, McDermott, and Valentine. Those dudes need to play to see if the Bulls have anything worth keeping.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 24, 2016 -> 09:05 AM) You know, you have absolutely nothing to make you think this will happen except for the entire history of this front office. They actually have a ton coming off the books next year. On CSN last night they suggested these guys as possible targets: Eric Gordon, Arron Afflalo, Brandon Jennings, Marvin Williams, Courtney Lee, and Kent Bazemore. I think they need another big and a starting PG. It depends what they want to do. Ideally, they can sign Brandon Jennings to a 1 year deal. Then you are looking at trading Taj Gibson, Mike Dunleavy, and Jennings in season. The Bulls will have roughly $25 million in space once Gasol opts out. Here is their current roster: G/F Jimmy Butler C Robin Lopez F Taj Gibson PG Jose Calderon PF Nikola Mirotic SF Mike Dunleavy SF Doug McDermott SF Tony Snell PG Jerian Grant PF Bobby Portis SG Spencer Dinwiddie C Cristiano Felicio SG/SF Denzel Valentine Taj Gibson, Jose Calderon, Nikola Mirotic, and Tony Snell are all free agents after the season. The only money on the books for 2017 is Butler at like $18 million and Robin Lopez at $13.5 million. They have some money going forward. Absolutely no idea how they plan on using it though.

I think the Bulls will sign 2-3 role player types and not one big expenditure.

QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Jun 23, 2016 -> 06:59 PM) I think Q is a better guy to move at the deadline if we sell. I would wait until after the season with Sale unless someone is willing to overpay. If he turns in a Cy Young season you can trade him at the peak of his value in the offseason. Neither guy should or will be moved the deadline. You can get more in the offseason

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 23, 2016 -> 10:45 PM) Frazier's a mid 700's OPS guy. Not sure if it was realistic to expect improvement switching from the NL to the AL, after his second half and he's 32 now. Lawrie was much better earlier in his career in terms of WAR, but to expect better than this consistently, no way. Saladino, sure, if he was playing everyday...you can see him 50-75 OPS points higher. Garcia just sucks, don't care about his BA w/ RISP if he's only OPSing in the mid 600's. Jackson was 660's in OPS, right where most predicted. Navarro and Avila, where predicted based on years of decline and injury. Eaton has been overperforming, by and large. That leaves this whole theory based on improvement from Abreu (which has already happened), Frazier (slight room for improvement but trending negatively except homers), Rodon and the injection of Tim Anderson (which, optimistically wasn't expected to be much above a 700 OPS number by even his biggest fans THIS YEAR). It's very simple, replace Garcia and get at least one more potent bench bat...and don't put all your eggs in the Justin Morneau basket or it will be too late to course correct. The bullpen needs another RHP. That's a HUGE problem at the moment. And then Shields improving, but he can't get any worse. The White Sox SHOULD have won 2 of the 4 games he has started, so it's not like you expect them to win 3/4. 1/4 obviously isn't going to cut it, and that's probably what the number deserves to be, the rally from 7-0 down cancelling out today's blown game. And I wouldn't count on Gonzalez continuing to pitch as well as he has, either. Rodon Shields Frazier (what higher OPS number can be realistically expected, though??) Avi replaced (Morneau/trade) Anderson doesn't get exposed offensively RH reliever (veteran) Perfect health and Jackson coming back and hitting the ground running where he left off offensively. The same case can be made for every team in the division, and they've all gone through just as much if not more than the Sox. Let's just say we shouldn't bet Greg's house until they actually show they can win 2/3 series against non-MN Central opponents. Frazier turned 30 in February. He's not 32 now. He's been an .800 OPS guy the last 2 seasons. His average is way down, he doesn't have nearly as many doubles as he's had in the past either. He's solid at 3B, he's going to hit 35 home runs, and his BABIP is still an absurdly low .179.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 23, 2016 -> 11:44 AM) Do the Bulls have the cap room to take on almost $10 million? The Bulls have $25 million once Gasol opts out so yes.

So Woj is reporting that the Hornets will trade #22 if someone takes Jeremy Lamb's contract 3/21. Is this something the Bulls should consider in order to get another 1st rounder?

I've been reading Jonathan Abrams book called "Boys Among Men". It's about the generation of HS players entering the NBA. It's excellent. It details from Moses Malone all the way through Dwight Howard. I was 12 years old in 1997. The book details an interesting scenario that I need help with. Abrams' talks about Jerry Krause's infatuation with Tracy McGrady. Thought he was a young Pippen. Jordan and Phil didn't have contracts after the 5th title and Krause had a deal with Boston to trade Pippen for the #3 and #6 picks to take McGrady. Jordan told Krause that he would retire if the team traded Scottie and Phil wouldn't return. Obviously, the Bulls chose to bring the band back together and win a 6th title. Nobody would trade in that 6th title but it would have been interesting to see how different the next 20 years would have been with a head start to the rebuild compared to what they actually did. I knew that the team was almost broken up but was the McGrady stuff public knowledge at the time and like a known fact?

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 23, 2016 -> 08:53 AM) Honestly, I don't know hat they are going to move Dunleavy & Taj though. I know. Taj is up at season's end and they talked about getting more athletic players that fit Hoiberg yesterday.

QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jun 23, 2016 -> 08:15 AM) If the Bulls can be really bad with Jimmy Butler, that would accelerate the rebuild quite a bit. Problem is, they might be middle of the pack bad which is the definition of basketball hell. For sure. Regardless, their next moves should be dumping Dunleavy and Taj though. I'm not a huge Jimmy Butler guy but he is a top 20 player in the league. Maybe even better. The Bulls need a ton to move him. If Boston gave me #3, and another 1st this year with Brooklyn's 2017 pick and Jae Crowder + filler I'd do that. The Bulls can't move him for #3, Crowder and Bradley or a TWolves package without Wiggins though. It's just not enough value.

MLB.com put Minaya in the White Sox top 30 at #27. Juan Minaya | Rank: 27 Team: Fresno Grizzlies (AAA) ETA: 2016 Position: RHP Age: 25 DOB: 09/18/1990 Bats: R Throws: R Height: 6' 4" Weight: 210 lb. Signed: Sept. 3, 2008 - HOU Scouting grades: Fastball: 70 | Slider: 55 | Control: 40 | Overall: 45 Signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2008, Minaya only had sporadic success in the Minors until 2015. After pitching well in Double-A and during a cameo in Triple-A, he earned a spot on Houston's 40-man roster. The Astros designated him for assignment in mid-June, however, and the White Sox claimed him on waivers. Minaya has a long, loose arm that consistently delivers 95-96 mph fastballs and occasionally some 98s. His hard slider gives him a second plus pitch at times. He broke into pro ball as a starter but is better suited for relief work. Minaya is on the verge of helping in the big leagues, but he'll need to improve his control and command before he's ready. He has thrown more strikes the last two seasons, but he still gets into trouble with walks and doesn't always miss as many bats as someone with his stuff should.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 11:58 AM) not part of the discussion. Just a theory that has been out there awhile. It's one that I always come back to when the discussion of pitching comes around. I truly wanted an opinion on it. I guess instead of "serious question" i should have started it by saying On another topic" or something like that. If they could physically handle it, it sounds like something that could be beneficial. Obviously, the way the salary scale is and other factors would come into play on if it ever actually became feasible.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 11:55 AM) I'm not trading Butler unless I get the #3 plus the New Jersey unprotected 1st rounder in next years draft. I don't think Boston does it but I don't think we should trade Jimmy unless we get blown away. They apparently love Kris Dunn. I guess it depends on how much. I don't think they have Brooklyn's #1 next year. Teams can;'t trade #1 picks in successive years

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 11:51 AM) This is a serious question. Do you think it would be more effective to take the starting pitchers and pitch them 3 innings each as the Cubs tried at one point? This way the can go lights out for three innings then come back just 2 days later? This way you could have 6 starting pitchers for 3 days and have the bullpen cover the other 3? I always go back to that theory and wonder if it could be effective. You are the one with the medical background. Can they handle it? I have no idea, man.

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 05:08 PM) Watched both seasons of How to get away with murder. I really liked the premise and the beginning of the first season but holy hell that show went off the rails in the 2nd season. Scandal does the same thing. The first 2 seasons of Scandal are tremendous for a network show. It's not very good anymore.

I think I'm done here.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 11:38 AM) Who has been the better pitcher this year, Jose Quintana or Stephen Strasburg? Quintana has been slightly better. Both are fantastic though.
-
A report came out yesterday that Boston was trying to get Butler and couldn't pull it off. Marcus Smart, Crowder, and #3 and I'd make that deal. I might even do it for Bradley instead of Smart with more 1st rounders added.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 11:22 AM) It may be. My comment was about the "wins don't matter." He has had a great year and could be the best pitcher but the lack of wins does need to be considered. It's judging him by a measure that is completely out of his control though. This argument makes absolutely zero sense to the point where I can't believe someone is actually arguing it. If they don't score any runs, and he pitches great, he did his job. But somehow he's supposed to magically make them score more so that people can see an arbitrary number on the left side of the column under his name?
