QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 10:58 AM) You should care. Is part of the reason he is the best pitcher by the metrics due to his only pitching 5 to 6 innings a game? This in turn puts his team at a big disadvantage to put lesser talented pitchers in the game, put more stress on the bullpen and cause his team to lose more games because the more talented pitcher has less of an effect on the outcome of the game. Many people talk about having better hitters hit more often by hitting higher in the order. wouldn't this same idea apply to the pitcher? wouldn't you want the better pitchers to pitch deeper into the game and have more of an effect on the outcome? This line of thinking is one reason why starting pitchers are pitching less and IMHO are actually getting injured more. They are burning themselves out by using all stressful pitches. If they scored runs in his starts, he'd be like 11-3 and nobody would think this.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 09:55 AM) There are some shows in Tinley, but there is about jacks*** in the Chicago area. Are there? That place is 20 minutes from my house. Nothing in Illinois showed up for me. -
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 10:40 AM) So teams should depend on lesser talented middle relief pitchers for individual wins? That's how I would build a successful team. I'll never be convinced that wins are meaningless for starting pitchers. Do you think Jose Quintana has been the bets pitcher in the AL this year? Because most metrics say that he has been. He'd by my CY Young leader currently but nobody cares what I think. I know that the guy has a 2.60 FIP but I have absolutely no idea what his W/L record is. Don't care either.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 11:12 PM) I finally looked at my account and was pretty surprised to see 6 vouchers and 6 discount codes. I didn't expect that much. Unfortunately, of the list of approved shows, most of the ones I'd want to see have already sold out of their voucher allotment. Good thing is that more will come available since these don't expire until 2020. So I clicked on the voucher thing and it showed me the eligible shows but none of them are in the Chicago area? Is that normal or am I doing it wrong? -
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 12:51 PM) For sure. But it's hard to ignore the fact that the people who take public jobs get to vote. They never had to put their balls out there so to speak. So I feel like if one chooses the easy way out, one's opinion should be of gratitude and thanks to the people who sweat in the jungle every day and get things done for their salary. They shouldn't be self-righteous & condescending to the free-market men & women. The professors and hipsters love to rap on pollution, the environment, green energy, rag on oil etc. All that stuff is nice in utopialand but it's not realistic; everything is oil. While they ride their bicycle to work, they're forgetting that most of their bike components are made from oil, their clothes are made from oil, their toothbrush @ toothpaste oil, all the packaging from amazon prime is oil, everything in those boxes is oil, all the goods at their local amazon warehouse arrived in big greasy, oil-made-and-fueled trucks which drove on oil-made roads. Oil is the reason their clothes have color & why they can drink starbucks & finger their oil-based laptops. Oil is the only reason IKEA exists. Oil is the reason we all get cancers and need big pharma & high-paid doctors. I'm all for solutions but we aren't close as a society, so until then, shut up about your bicycle & public-dime job like you're making more of a difference. Are you referring to like college professors or teachers? I teach Special Ed Reading and I guarantee you wouldn't do my job so I'm hoping that your "taking the easy way out" comments aren't referring to someone like me.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 06:45 AM) My dad was trying to tell me LeBron easily ranks under Kareem, Wilt, Magic, Bird...Then he pulled out Russell, West and Baylor...Then Kobe and played the "I saw them play!" card. I also done a s*** ton of NBA history research. I still say only MJ and aKareem have concrete spots above him. Bird? He wouldn't even get a shot off against LeBron.

QUOTE (daggins @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 11:09 AM) Ahh the annual trade Sale article. Boston doesn't need Sale, they have pitching. I'd look at a contender like Texas or Pittsburgh with mediocre pitching. You aren't getting stars back for Sale. Contending teams don't trade stars. Unless you don't agree they should trade Sale, which is fine. But don't realistically expect star return. Boston has pitching? Not much after David Price.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 11:42 AM) This is fine and dandy, but bunting in certain situations makes sense for a team like the White Sox that has trouble scoring runs consistently. I don't necessarily agree with their philosophy either, but I'd rather play for one run than not score any at all. It's not predetermined that they won't score one though. That's the problem. You can' just assume that the hitter would get out anyway so the bunt is fine. It doesn't work like that.
-
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 11:35 AM) You anti-bunt guys are kind of contradicting yourselves. Plus what is the difference when a ground ball for an out is cheered that moves a runner over to scoring position? You must be waiting for he five run homer or something? LOL The difference is that when you bunt, you are giving away an out. When you try to hit a ball to the right side, a player may get a single or a double. That's why the argument is stupid. Runner on 1st and no outs. People say well at least the bunt moves the guy over. What if that guy hits a double instead of a bunt? Outs are baseball's currency. There is no clock. There are 27 outs and they are all valuable. Shouldn't be giving them away.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 11:03 AM) When you have an offense that's struggling, you shouldn't be giving up outs and playing for 1 run all the time. It's one thing to do it when you only need 1 run to win in extras or in the 9th, but the Sox have had their #3 hitter bunt before in the 7th inning. If you don't let your best hitter swing the bat, then what's the point? They sac bunted in the 1st inning the other day. It's absolutely f***ing unacceptable and incredibly dumb. It actually increases the likelihood that you will lose.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 11:01 AM) Who has the leg up in the Durant sweepstakes? OKC? I think he signs a 1 year deal to stay in OKC

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 10:35 AM) I must say, I really don't understand the logic around here. If you were going to trade Chris Sale, the time to do that was BEFORE you went and made 12 other moves in an attempt to compete with this core. The time was to build a new core once you realized you couldn't assemble a competitive enough team in time to coincide with Sale's peak years. The time is not AFTER you've gone and tried to build around THIS core. We've since signed multiple free agents, made multiple trades, etc. You've come this far. Now you've got no choice but to keep trying. They need to keep adding to the core now, not selling it off. I agree with this. They are in. Need to keep going now.

QUOTE (Condor13 @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 10:04 AM) For the sox they are trying to manufacture a run like the NL does. It the right decision most of the time. Problem is, when the sox get a man on 3rd with less than 2 outs and all they need is a ball in play to score a run its an automatic K for our hitters. Our pitchers need confidence of pitching ahead and our offense needs as many opportunities to score especially if it means they don't have to get a hit to score. The only time recently that I had a problem with the bunt was when Melky did it, but that was all on him and not RV. Most every other time it has been the right call. It's almost never the right decision. Giving away outs is stupid.

The NBA Draft is usually the start of the offseason and it takes place on Thursday. While I expect to hear Bulls rumors, they will most likely stay put and pick at #14. Some potential names for them: Jacob Poeltl C Utah: Really good defender, probably a longshot to be available DeYonte Davis PF Michigan State: Good defender, high upside, and very athletic. Furkan Korkmaz G Turkey: Excellent shooter, athletic, young. My favorite potential Bulls picks. DeJounte Murray PG Washington: Athletic defender with top 5 pick upside if he played more consistently. Plays very wild but has All Star potential Demetrius Jackson PG Notre Dame: Personal favorite of mine, size 6'1 is an issue and didn't shoot well as a Junior.

The amount of bunting is driving everyone insane and rightfully so. Every time I see a sacrifice bunt early in a game, I feel like Billy Beane throwing a chair in Moneyball. Does anyone think it's a Rick Renteria thing? Everyone blames Robin for this and as the manager it's his call. In past seasons though, the White Sox have not been giving away so many outs. IIRC, the Sox have been in the bottom 1/3 of the league in bunts under Ventura. Why this drastic change in philosophy?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 08:10 AM) STILL WAITING FOR AN ACTUAL DEFENSE OF RICK HAHN...which won't be forthcoming. Probably not enough but a few things: 1. Signs Pre-Arb or Arb players to great below market extensions: Quintana, Sale, Jones, Eaton 2. Acquired Adam Eaton and Jose Abreu 3. Peavy trade return was solid without eating $$ 4. Marco Paddy was hired and Nick Hostetler promoted under his watch 5. Great at talking to the media. He appears to be extremely transparent even though he basically says nothing. 6. The last 4 drafts have been pretty good overall. Obviously, most moves from last offseason on have been pretty bad and when weighing the bad vs the good, an argument can be made that he should be fired even though I wouldn't be on board with that.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 08:09 AM) We don't know exactly how much they rely upon it. With the Pirates, it's very obvious. Jonah Keri wrote a book detailing the sea change. So how can I advocate for his firing when I don't even know how much say he or Jeremy Haber have in the organization, versus, let's say, Buddy Bell or KW or Laumann. I also never said Fabian should get the GM job, lol...where did you make that inference from? Just because I said they MIGHT be spared so there is some continuity going forward doesn't mean he should be a GM, or is qualified. And I questioned Haber because he seemed to be Hahn's advocate/progeny within the organization. Hahn is supposedly mentoring him, or has taken him under his wing. The Pirates book was written by Travis Sawchick FYI. Keri wrote The Extra 2% about the Rays.

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 12:11 AM) They must have a lot of confidence in him to send him straight to A+. I figured he might go to Kannapolis but he doesn't belong at Great Falls or the AZL. Makes some sense. I think Burdi will join him soon as well.
