  1. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 17, 2016 -> 08:58 AM) Let's go down the list Abreu, can and will improve Frazier. Possible he could improve, but he had a horrid 2nd half last year, which was utterly ignored/glossed over in the pursuit of his greatness. Basically what you see is what you get with Frazier. Lawrie - Not much room for improvement He's never been a good hitter. He's basically adequate. Rick Hahn preferred "Adequate" to "currently inadequate but with potential", a decided organizational philosophy, so he acquired him. Saladino is a better player than Lawrie (and Avi and Shuck) but the Sox are the Sox and Saladino is on the bench.** Navarro - he can hit better; probably will. He's always sucked as a catcher. Rodon - Rodon was rushed for no reason, other than Williams/Hahn howling at the moon last summer that "we're in it." He should improve, but another few months in Charlotte would have helped. Robertson and JOnes are doing their jobs...they aren't elite and never have been. So out of these, Abreu and Navarro will hit better; Frazier might; and you'll see steady improvement out of Rodon. The .500 record is an accurate reflection of the talent level on this team. **Entering 2015, Charlotte had a crowded infield of ML ready players. And yet Hann and Williams STILL went out and acquired 2 veteran utility infielders. Anyone who can't see the decided bias in this org toward veterans, regardless of skill level, has their head in the sand. Frazier has a .191 BABIP. You would think that a torrid stretch is coming. Rodon would not have signed if he weren't in majors last year. This was the price of poker.
  2. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 17, 2016 -> 08:41 AM) Probably no one. That's why you build, and not trade away possible/probable rookies of the year for good, not great players. You make savvy trades...you don't force them like Rick Hahn does. This business of falling in love with every NL hitter who smiles at Hahn/Williams is for the birds. It's what put us in this position and keeps us in the position. BTW, one element of the Sox early on that was credited for the big improvement was the defense. That element, apparently, isn't important anymore. I get what you are saying. Semien and Trayce are probably both better than people thought. Maybe it speaks to the teams' development being better overall though. The problem with the White Sox system is that they are so weak in that 6-15 range. They don't want to trade their top guys which is understandable. Most teams trade from the back of their top 10 but the White Sox don't have those guys to deal. So they end up dealing guys like Trayce, Montas, and Semien who have had some big league success. I'd trade Trayce Thompson, Micah, and Montas still for Frazier but I get where you are coming from. We just disagree.
  3. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 16, 2016 -> 12:59 PM) Just when she was growing on me, Amanda goes. I couldn't decide if she was hot or not but I got past all the freckles. Definitely hot. Seems like a giant pain in the ass though.
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 16, 2016 -> 03:23 PM) BTW, that show is pretty amazing. There is some quality on Are You The One, that's for sure
  5. Game 7 should be awesome. I hope LeBron pulls it off. It's a legacy defining game. Cleveland hasn't won a title in any sport in 50+ years. The Cavs pulling it off against this team in their building coming from down 3-1 would be an awesome sports moment. I like seeing s*** I've never seen before and generally root for greatness though.
  6. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jun 16, 2016 -> 10:57 PM) I just puked in my mouth. He's the least likeable superstar in sports. This is dumb.. I save my disdain for guys that get in trouble off the court. I mean you have Bobby Jenks' name in your display name and he's a much worse human than LeBron is.
  7. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jun 16, 2016 -> 07:39 PM) I thought so too. Maybe the Sox anticipate only being able to sign one of Hickman/Curbelo? Hopefully the 200k+ the Sox have saved will be enough to sign both for above slot value. I think Curbelo will be a tough signing. Curbelo is definitely signing. It's already been indicated basically. They would not have taken him in the top 10 rounds if he wasn't signing.
  8. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jun 16, 2016 -> 07:00 PM) Alex Call sings for slot value of $719,100. http://m.whitesox.mlb.com/news/article/184...-with-alex-call I thought that Call would be under slot. How the hell are they signing Hickman and Curbelo?
  9. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 04:15 PM) You're selectively looking at stats just to fit your narrative. Latos gave up 16 of his 31 runs this season in 3 starts and was DFA. Why doesn't he get a pass as well? If you are going to "take away" the 3 worst starts from Shields, you have to do it for every pitcher. Because s*** costs money. That's why. Shields is owed $27 million and was just acquired. Latos was a $3 million flyer. James Shields isn't being released.
  10. Cubs are calling up top C prospect Willson Contreras. Just never ends for them.

  12. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 03:04 PM) Lineup: SS Anderson RF Eaton 1B Abreu RF Cabrera 3B Frazier C Navarro 2B Lawrie DH Garcia CF Shuck Why is Jason Coats on this team?
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 02:06 PM) There is no reason to. I can't see the Wolves ever agreeing to it. The Bulls have no reason to take a package without him in it though either. Levine, Dieng, and #5? Keep it.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 01:52 PM) sec159 row 9 I'll be near
  15. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 12:49 PM) me2. I'll be there as well. Section 161.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 10:04 AM) A Hall of Fame pitcher just publicly posted his mechanical flaw. People can either go with that, or they can go with their idea that in the matter of 3 starts James Shields has completely forgotten how to pitch. Bruce Levine was on with Mully and Hanley this morning and said in the 3rd inning that a team executive came down after identifying a mechanical issue. They feel like he's tipping his pitches. Shields and Cooper have begun to work on it apparently.
  17. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 06:48 AM) This is going to be Edwin Jackson/Daniel Hudson all over again, isn't it? No. The Sox thought Daniel Hudson was going to get hurt and traded him. The problem is, they could have traded him for something better (even though EJax was very good here). Erik Johnson had pretty much no value.
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 08:31 PM) So what's that like 200k saved? Alex Call should be way under and I think Fisher will be under as well.
  19. User Actions Following Jonathan MayoVerified account ‏@JonathanMayo 8th-rder Nathan Nolan signs w/@whitesox for $170K (pick value=$181,100). Catcher from @SMGaelsBaseball has pwr arm/bat. @MLBDraft
  20. Dan Plesac said that the Cubs should trade Schwarber for Andrew Miller. That would be stupid. There's no way Theo does that. Schwarber could headline a package for a frontline starter. Why would they deal him for a 30+ year old reliever?
  21. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 08:41 AM) As much as I wanted to see him up here, I dont think there is any way you can keep running Coats out there. He is devoid of any approach at all and you are just throwing away those ABs. Im not sure where the relief is going to be coming from as there isn't really any reasonable replacements in the minors. If Engel was in AAA, I'd maybe think about giving him a chance, but he's too far away still. If Im Rick Hahn, Im looking to upgrade 3 areas: RP, DH, and CF. I think this team can stick around long enough to wait for Burdi to come up and contribute, so I'd put less priority on RP. DH has been a black hole of awful and is the most immediate area of need. I hate to even say it, but Jay Bruce would look really good on this team right now....if he never had to field again. His defensive metrics make Avi's look decent. If his price is too steep, then I go ask the Rays about the price on Pearce. He is absolutely mashing this season and allows you a lot of flexibility as a franchise. Im not sure there is a quick solution to our CF problems, there isn't a lot out there right now that would be better than just moving Eaton back over. Jon Jay? Billy Hamilton? Yep. Jay Bruce, Jon Jay, and Will Smith would be awesome.
  22. Rosenthal's piece today said that the White Sox have always loved Jonathan Lucroy but that they probably don't have enough in their system to get it done.
  23. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 02:31 PM) Don't forget the Cubs as they end up winning the Samardzija trade getting Russell. I'm fine with Ynoa and Burdi and taking the chance of Shark that one year. My post had nothing to do with the Cubs
  24. QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 03:25 PM) Thibs is not giving up Wiggins. They are offering the 5th pick and I am sure they anticipate having to throw in a sweetener like Levine and a future pick for it to possibly be enough for the Bulls FO to take the bait. They aren't getting Jimmy Butler then. I don't think Kris Dunn, Zach LaVine, and Dieng is enough. Bulls should hold out for Wiggins or not deal him to Minnesota. How badly does Tom want him? Boston can probably top Minnesota's offer. I'm definitely on board with dealing him and remaking the roster. I also love Dunn. I just don't think that's enough though. That Minnesota deal would allow them to make a run at Demar Derozan though.
  25. QUOTE (QuickJones81 @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 03:48 PM) I understand all this. The Sox approach meant they ended up with less of a share than others, who had the same constraints, and used a different path to more talent in terms of volume of top rated players. So are we less efficient with our dollars, or top heavy, and how do we differ from the teams that have had the best success in the draft since the new system was put in play? I understand how we got to where we got to, but are we laggards in understanding how best to work this system like we are in the international market? Ithe seems like our approach is to put all of our money on the top players and gamble that they'll succeed while hoping one of the cheap buys is a steal. The problem is that the bonus pools at the top of the draft are way too high. That allowed Atlanta and Philadelphia to do what they did. Teams picking where the White Sox are picking don't have that luxury. They could have taken Lux at 10 and signed him for $2 million and someone else at #26 and signed them for $1 million and theoretically landed more players from the top 200. More isn't always better though.
