  1. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 24, 2016 -> 12:43 PM) I am 100% convinced if Wentz / Goff are there when Bears are on the clock, we are picking. I also wouldn't be shocked if we ended up with Lynch. I think we are getting QB somewhere in first two rounds. Pace supposedly loves Wentz. He would take him at #11. He'll be gone though. This would shock some people but I think if Elliott is on the board, they'll probably take him depending on what else is there.
  2. QUOTE (scs787 @ Mar 24, 2016 -> 12:31 PM) With the move more than likely meaning they won't draft Goff/Wentz, and San Fran now the only team likely to take a QB in the top 10, would you go QB in the first? Has there ever been a top 15 pick taken to be a backup for a year or 2? Browns will still draft Carson Wentz at #2
  3. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 24, 2016 -> 12:01 PM) Why not? EJ has no future here and Danks, Turner, and Latos are lottery tickets. I wouldn't mind bringing back Floyd just for depth. There isn't a spot. Danks and Latos are the 4/5 starters.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 23, 2016 -> 11:44 AM) It would have been interesting to see if LaRoche had happened first, if any of those moves would have changed with the extra 40 man spot. Actually, I was wrong. Phillips wasn't claimed. He turned down the minor league assignment.
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 23, 2016 -> 10:13 AM) Actually I don't believe he had options left. He was a minor league free agent signing prior to that. So he had no options, and had to pass through waivers to clear for DFA. He was out of options. They tried to sneak him and Brantly off the 40 man and into minor league camp. Both guys were claimed. Daniel Fields was sent to minor league camp too. He must have cleared waivers because he was in the same boat. The same thing will happen with Jacob Turner. He will probably get through to Charlotte with a $1.5 million price tag though.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 23, 2016 -> 09:12 AM) via fangraphs http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/how-the-whi...in-the-pennant/ I already made a thread for this the other day. Not much interest.
  7. It's refreshing. He's talking about advanced metrics and letting Steve Stone be great. Such an improvement.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 22, 2016 -> 04:43 PM) Discouraging from Latos. Average high fastballs with no movement is a bad recipe. In the first start of the spring. I think he's fine.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 22, 2016 -> 09:26 AM) http://m.whitesox.mlb.com/news/article/168...enjoying-spring They can't keep Sanchez on the 25 man though can they? It's too many infielders IMO.
  10. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 22, 2016 -> 07:38 AM) Rollins has fairly even splits, I was looking at it more from Saladino's side. Saladino is much better vs LHP than vs RHP. Oh yeah I know. It's an interesting debate. It's easy to look at and just assume that Saladino should start vs the LHP but Rollins was pretty good vs LHP last year.
  11. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Mar 21, 2016 -> 06:53 PM) Is it the last year to get that pick as well? NO. It's top 10 protected next year as well. They are a s*** franchise though. I wouldn't bank on getting that pick. If they somehow are outside of top 10 next year, the Bulls will get it. If not, it turns into a 2nd rounder.
  12. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 22, 2016 -> 07:10 AM) Any chance that Saladino start vs LHP and Rollins vs RHP, at least for the first few weeks to see how they're doing? Rollins had a wRC+ of 114 vs LHP last season. Most of his power (11 homers) came from the left side though.
  13. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 21, 2016 -> 05:59 PM) Ideally I'd put Melky there, but they batted him in the middle of the order last year and there really isn't another power bat to hit 5th. Unless you bat Navarro there when he plays. This is what I'd love to see. vs LHP 1. Eaton OF 2. Lawrie 2B 3. Abreu 1B 4. Frazier 3B 5. Cabrera OF 6. Garcia/Shuck DH 7. Navarro C 8. Rollins SS 9. Jackson CF vs RHP 1. Eaton OF 2. Ethier DH/OF 3. Abreu 1B 4. Frazier 3B 5. Cabrera OF 6. Lawrie 2B 7. Avila C 8. Rollins SS 9. Jackson CF Yes, I know I added Andre Ethier to the team. Yes, I know he just got injured.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 21, 2016 -> 02:57 PM) Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 22m22 minutes ago Goodyear, AZ Robin Ventura says he knows who will be the White Sox starting shortstop in Oakland... He declined to tell us today. Gray is RH. I would bet that Rollins starts at SS
  15. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2016-positi...nkings-catcher/ They started with the Catcher position. White Sox are smack dab in the middle at 16.
  16. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Mar 21, 2016 -> 11:31 AM) After looking at his splits, I agree, I wouldn't be against the move. He had a .341 OBP against RHP in 2015, and .351 the last 3 seasons with a .763 OPS. Those numbers are probably much better than we could expect from in-house options against RHP. I hate 1B that don't hit for power. There are better options out there than Loney.
  17. QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 21, 2016 -> 09:17 AM) looking at the option at this time and am looking at Loney as an option. i can get really excited, as long as the price is not step in ref to what the sox will need to address. something like coats and barum works for me. the thing i like is loney hit to strikeout factor and his avg. he would be the perfest #2 hitter and if needed the sox can look at a nice pkg with Avi fronting the trade for another low level, young prospect. pls he if he as a rep of being bringing a good leadership quality, that will also solidify the leadership part on this team. Loney sucks. I'd rather go with what they have than acquire Loney.
  18. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 21, 2016 -> 11:20 AM) The home opener will be the 5th game of the season so it should be Danks or Latos. Yep. This is why I'm going on Saturday April 9th instead of OD.
  19. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 21, 2016 -> 08:59 AM) SP: Sale, Quintana, Rodon, Danks, Turner RP: Robertson, Duke, Jones, Putnam, Albers, Jennigs, Petricka, Kahnle C: Avila, Navarro IF: Abreu, Lawrie, Rollins, Frazier, Saladino OF: Cabrera, Jackson, Eaton, Garcia, Sands If the Sox acquire a position player before or shortly after opening day, that guy replaces Kahnle. If not, then either Davidson or Sanchez replaces Kahnle within the first two weeks. Latos on the DL to start the season and eventually replaces Turner. I don't think there's any chance that they keep 13 pitchers.
  20. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 21, 2016 -> 08:52 AM) Shuck is a lock right now. He was pretty solid last year, and hasn't done anything to knock him off the roster. Sanchez is probably going back to AAA, barring a trade. It's down to Sands or Ishikawa if they don't make any other moves---but I do think they have one more in them this week. A trade could include Petricka or Putnam, which would bring a guy to the OD roster that profiles more of a long reliever-- Carroll, Johnson, or Turner. A couple other guys that still have life--Leury and Lombardozzi. I totally forgot about Kahnle. I feel like if they acquire a LHH, they should keep Sands still and release Shuck. Sands hits very well vs LHP and can play 1B. Shuck has reverse splits, isn't that great, and would be unnecessary to keep if they acquire another LHB.
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 21, 2016 -> 08:15 AM) Kim Contreras' three-part series of in-depth looks at three 2015 draftees concludes with this chapter on catcher Seby Zavala. The 12th round pick has some potential, and there's a lot to like here. She gets quotes from his high school and college coaches, his signing scout, and the White Sox front office. She previously wrote similar articles on Corey Zangari and Jordan Stephens. This is a great profile by Kim. Will Zavala begin the season in Kannapolis this year?
  22. With the retirement of LaRoche, the White Sox have an extra roster spot on their 25 man roster. I expect them to add a LHH of some sort to the roster to take LaRoche's spot. Until then though, it seems like there is an opportunity for some guys. Here is what I think it would be with nobody else added (40 man is at 38 so I expect some movement). Pitchers Chris Sale Jose Quintana Carlos Rodon John Danks Mat Latos David Robertson Nate Jones Zach Duke Zach Putnam Dan Jennings Jake Petricka Matt Albers I believe that Jacob Turner and Erik Johnson both end up at Charlotte because there seemingly isn't a spot for either of them as currently constructed. Former Top Prospect Phillippe Aumont has had a solid spring and could push someone for a job as well. Position Players Jose Abreu Brett Lawrie Jimmy Rollins Tyler Saladino Todd Frazier Adam Eaton Avisail Garcia Melky Cabrera Austin Jackson Alex Avila Dioner Navarro I think those are the locks. I expect a trade for a LHB. This leaves Carlos Sanchez, J.B. Shuck, Jerry Sands, and Travis Ishikawa battling for 2 spots. What does everyone else think? Did I forget anyone?
  23. QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 20, 2016 -> 05:46 PM) They will shut him down really early due to the innings load. I don't remember how many innings he had last year but it wasn't many. That's a huge injury risk especially with the high effort delivery. I think they could use Fulmer out of bullpen exclusively this year in majors. Not as big of a risk because there isn't the Boras factor.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 20, 2016 -> 05:22 PM) Stone just really clearly said that Davidson WILL be going to AAA, and WILL be playing 3B there daily. Charlotte could have a fun team actually. Davidson, Sanchez, and Anderson on the infield. Coats, Fields, and May in the OF. Rotation of Johnson, Beck, Turner is solid.
