QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 20, 2016 -> 04:48 PM) Hickman was being talked about as a top 3 round pick going into the draft. He might be the biggest sleeper in the minors for the Sox. He probably won't have much of an impact just after TJS, but he is a guy who could explode into our top 5 next year. Is he going to be starting? I think Jordan Stephens is a guy that could easily be a top 10 guy too.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 20, 2016 -> 03:50 PM) I think Shuck is on the roster for sure right now. The team sees to like what he brings to the show. Maybe he is a little less needed with Jackson being able to play CF, but they still seem to see a fit for him. I don't really understand why though. He's bad in CF and doesn't hit RHP.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 20, 2016 -> 03:42 PM) Yeah, they have the two spots open in reality, plus they could easily free up another spot or two with strategic cuts. Sands and Shuck probably won't both be on the roster so that opens a spot too.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 20, 2016 -> 02:59 PM) I said it before, but the White Sox are perfectly set up to make a deal involving at least one of their relievers going outbound, and bringing in another bat. Maybe it is a good hitter with a bigger contract (Either? Bruce?) or maybe it is a roster spot crunch from another team (teams like Houston, LAD, and Tampa seem to be possibilities) but it makes so much sense. Carlos Sanchez may be expendable as well.

Bernie Pleskoff @BerniePleskoff Mar 19 Watch for #WhiteSox moves. They have only 37 men on their 40-man roster. Room for changes. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 03:18 PM) Zach Phillips outrighted, and he elected free agency. 43 in camp. This move gives the White Sox 37 on the 40 man roster. One of those spots will be Rollins so they really have 2 spots available. I would expect someone added prior to opening day. Bernie Pleskoff @BerniePleskoff Mar 19 Watch for #WhiteSox moves. This is an excellent take by Barry Rozner: http://www.dailyherald.com/article/2016031..._medium=twitter

QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 01:05 PM) Doesn't matter. It's not for them to make these types of statements publicly, especially after your owner has asked you not to speak on the subject. These are the types of things that get you traded by an old stubborn businessman, not things that get the GM fired. Eaton is a really good player. I wouldn't surprised if he doesn't have much of a future with the White Sox though.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 01:07 PM) I have a difficult believing KW just decided out of the clear blue to scale back Drake's presence in the club house and on the field without something being said to him first. Eaton is one to talk about KW " throwing it out there". He's been throwing plenty of stuff "out there" on Twitter. He's parading Twitter like a politician trolling for votes. Good to see Eaton and his big mouth are so focused on the upcoming season. Adam Eaton said that Drake LaRoche was a leader. It's absolutely absurd.

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 12:28 PM) USA Today story. Claims Sox players and coaches complained: http://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/nighte...amp;ocid=onepro Mark We've been over this Mark. I said this 2 days ago. Multiple score personalities have said this. Nightingale said it. Welcome to the party I guess.

Bob Nightingale basically said what was reported. Some players and coaches complained to the front office. He said they all liked the kid but were just uncomfortable about his constant presence. KW talked to LaRoche about. LaRoche completely ignored him. KW flipped out and told him the kid couldn't come anymore. Then KW obviously came to his senses and settled on much less time for Drake to be around. LaRoche chose to retire instead. Players didn't go to LaRoche. Bob also said it was inappropriate for Hahn or Ventura to handle it in their mind. Ventura needs his players to be united and play well in a lame duck year. Can't afford to split the room. Also mentioned that Hahn is still the contract negotiator. KW was the perfect guy to do this it just got botched along the way and wasn't perceived well because of Kenny Williams' overall absence in general. Bottom Line: I think the team will be fine and KW doesn't mind being disliked. He'd almost prefer it that way in my opinion.

QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 08:53 AM) Listening to Eaton, it seems like he thinks this will get smoothed over. I think bottom line for them...my sense is they hate Kenny Williams because they have no relationship with him, but they want to play for each other and everyone else around the team. So I don't think this is exactly over, but it may not have much impact on the results on the field. We'll see. I think it will have a positive result on the field because LaRoche won't be playing. They imported a bunch of veteran leadership types for a reason. The team will be fine.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 08:39 AM) Speaking of a deal being a deal. I'm assuming Kenny didn't mention that others were upset. LaRoche didn't take it seriously because KW isn't a player or coach. I'm definitely not defending LaRoche, just wanted to point that out.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 07:17 AM) Why isn't there a single non-white player or coach on the side of LaRoche, inside or outside the White Sox organization? That's very telling. Hahn/Ventura/Sale/Eaton/Shark/Duke/Lawrie/Harper/Boyer=good KW/Rollins/Avila=evil Obviously it's not that simple, but imagine KW was to be fired. What free agent would want to sign with the White Sox, knowing that Sale and Eaton were basically running the club and dictating policy? If someone like Rodon, Abreu, Jackson or Navarro said that KW was completely wrong...then I might start to think pitchforks are in order, but everything must be much more complicated than it appears in terms of the real/true opinions of the majority of the rest of the team, especially players added this past offseason. Could have something to do with the White Sox letting LaRoche host a racist homophobe buddy at The Cell last year and make it a promotional night. It was disgusting then and it is now too.
-
I don't think that either of them go anywhere. It's Adam f***ing LaRoche. No chance.

QUOTE (Condor13 @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 08:16 PM) Sale doesn't care, KW told the players it was the coaches. He told the coaches it was the players, then he told everyone it was JR. He flat out lied and should be fired tonight. Noone in that locker room can trust him even RV and RH. That's fine. Chris Sale is a dips*** though. Probably why he got along with a 14 year old so well. Chris Sale's own teammates went to KW and said they didn't want the kid around. Then Chris Sale spouted his mouth about how the team loved the kid so much. He's either incredibly stupid or incredibly naive.

This is exactly what I said it was yesterday. Players and coaches went to KW and complained about the kid always being around instead of going to LaRoche. KW had meeting with LaRoche asking him to dial it back. LaRoche didn't do so. KW flipped out and told LaRoche that he couldn't have his kid around anymore. KW cooled down and went back to his original story of telling LaRoche only sometimes. Chris Sale is a moron and probably doesn't even realize that he has teammates that went to Kenny in the first place. Kenny fell on the sword and took this all so players and coaches didn't have to. It wasn't handled properly but LaRoche didn't exactly take Williams very seriously. LaRoche is irrational. I'm happy he's gone because he's weird and bad and I don't feel like watching him all year.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 02:25 PM) Could see Kenny saying- First time- Adam, let's dial back how often Drake is here. Nothing changed. Second time- Adam, we've discussed this before, I don't want your focus diverted. Leave him home a few times a week. Nothing changed. Third time- Drake is not welcomed here anymore. Adam quits and becomes a martyr. I could totally see this being the case.

QUOTE (Condor13 @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 01:31 PM) It bc he didn't walk out on them, they all know that family comes first and that Is above all else. Also they knew he only came here bc the sox allowed his son to be there all the time. The players are 100% with LaRoche and against KW This isn't necessarily true though. There's not a doubt in my mind that players complained about a 14 year old kid being around constantly.

QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 01:22 PM) Wow, this is the transcript of Sale: Q: What are your concerns about how this affects the team moving forward? A: We’re missing two big pieces to our puzzle, plain and simple. I’m not going to sit here and say it’s going to be the main reason, but he’s definitely going to be missed and we’re not going to get him back. This is one dumbass guy's opinion though. LaRoche was below replacement level last year which actually means that he made the team worse. The dude hit .207 with 12 homers. GTFOH. This is nonsense.
-
Do we know what would have happened if LaRoche would not have retired? Kenny Williams asked LaRoche to tone it down. Did he put out a mandate that said he HAD to tone it down? What kind of grievance would even be filed? LaRoche decided to retire instead of challenging some new "policy". The policy really was never even enacted because LaRoche took his ball and went home instead.
-
Given the choice of LaRoche playing on the team all year and this clusterf*** happening, with no LaRoche on the team, and $13 million in savings, I think I'd still take this.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 12:43 PM) Lots of smoke from various people yesterday there were numerous complainers, and this came from non-Score personalities. Yep. Tom Shaer called in to Laurence Holmes' show last night and said that players complained this year and last. Pedro Gomez said that coaches complained. Maybe Kenny Williams is the source for both of them though. Who knows at this point.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 12:22 PM) It's like going to the dentist. It hurts now, but in a week or so, the Sox will be fine and will theoretically have $13 million to play with. WE've gone back and forth and debated in this thread a lot, but I agree with you here 100%.
