  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 21, 2016 -> 02:57 PM) Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 22m22 minutes ago Goodyear, AZ Robin Ventura says he knows who will be the White Sox starting shortstop in Oakland... He declined to tell us today. Gray is RH. I would bet that Rollins starts at SS
  2. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2016-positi...nkings-catcher/ They started with the Catcher position. White Sox are smack dab in the middle at 16.
  3. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Mar 21, 2016 -> 11:31 AM) After looking at his splits, I agree, I wouldn't be against the move. He had a .341 OBP against RHP in 2015, and .351 the last 3 seasons with a .763 OPS. Those numbers are probably much better than we could expect from in-house options against RHP. I hate 1B that don't hit for power. There are better options out there than Loney.
  4. QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 21, 2016 -> 09:17 AM) looking at the option at this time and am looking at Loney as an option. i can get really excited, as long as the price is not step in ref to what the sox will need to address. something like coats and barum works for me. the thing i like is loney hit to strikeout factor and his avg. he would be the perfest #2 hitter and if needed the sox can look at a nice pkg with Avi fronting the trade for another low level, young prospect. pls he if he as a rep of being bringing a good leadership quality, that will also solidify the leadership part on this team. Loney sucks. I'd rather go with what they have than acquire Loney.
  5. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 21, 2016 -> 11:20 AM) The home opener will be the 5th game of the season so it should be Danks or Latos. Yep. This is why I'm going on Saturday April 9th instead of OD.
  6. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 21, 2016 -> 08:59 AM) SP: Sale, Quintana, Rodon, Danks, Turner RP: Robertson, Duke, Jones, Putnam, Albers, Jennigs, Petricka, Kahnle C: Avila, Navarro IF: Abreu, Lawrie, Rollins, Frazier, Saladino OF: Cabrera, Jackson, Eaton, Garcia, Sands If the Sox acquire a position player before or shortly after opening day, that guy replaces Kahnle. If not, then either Davidson or Sanchez replaces Kahnle within the first two weeks. Latos on the DL to start the season and eventually replaces Turner. I don't think there's any chance that they keep 13 pitchers.
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 21, 2016 -> 08:52 AM) Shuck is a lock right now. He was pretty solid last year, and hasn't done anything to knock him off the roster. Sanchez is probably going back to AAA, barring a trade. It's down to Sands or Ishikawa if they don't make any other moves---but I do think they have one more in them this week. A trade could include Petricka or Putnam, which would bring a guy to the OD roster that profiles more of a long reliever-- Carroll, Johnson, or Turner. A couple other guys that still have life--Leury and Lombardozzi. I totally forgot about Kahnle. I feel like if they acquire a LHH, they should keep Sands still and release Shuck. Sands hits very well vs LHP and can play 1B. Shuck has reverse splits, isn't that great, and would be unnecessary to keep if they acquire another LHB.
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 21, 2016 -> 08:15 AM) Kim Contreras' three-part series of in-depth looks at three 2015 draftees concludes with this chapter on catcher Seby Zavala. The 12th round pick has some potential, and there's a lot to like here. She gets quotes from his high school and college coaches, his signing scout, and the White Sox front office. She previously wrote similar articles on Corey Zangari and Jordan Stephens. This is a great profile by Kim. Will Zavala begin the season in Kannapolis this year?
  9. With the retirement of LaRoche, the White Sox have an extra roster spot on their 25 man roster. I expect them to add a LHH of some sort to the roster to take LaRoche's spot. Until then though, it seems like there is an opportunity for some guys. Here is what I think it would be with nobody else added (40 man is at 38 so I expect some movement). Pitchers Chris Sale Jose Quintana Carlos Rodon John Danks Mat Latos David Robertson Nate Jones Zach Duke Zach Putnam Dan Jennings Jake Petricka Matt Albers I believe that Jacob Turner and Erik Johnson both end up at Charlotte because there seemingly isn't a spot for either of them as currently constructed. Former Top Prospect Phillippe Aumont has had a solid spring and could push someone for a job as well. Position Players Jose Abreu Brett Lawrie Jimmy Rollins Tyler Saladino Todd Frazier Adam Eaton Avisail Garcia Melky Cabrera Austin Jackson Alex Avila Dioner Navarro I think those are the locks. I expect a trade for a LHB. This leaves Carlos Sanchez, J.B. Shuck, Jerry Sands, and Travis Ishikawa battling for 2 spots. What does everyone else think? Did I forget anyone?
  10. QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 20, 2016 -> 05:46 PM) They will shut him down really early due to the innings load. I don't remember how many innings he had last year but it wasn't many. That's a huge injury risk especially with the high effort delivery. I think they could use Fulmer out of bullpen exclusively this year in majors. Not as big of a risk because there isn't the Boras factor.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 20, 2016 -> 05:22 PM) Stone just really clearly said that Davidson WILL be going to AAA, and WILL be playing 3B there daily. Charlotte could have a fun team actually. Davidson, Sanchez, and Anderson on the infield. Coats, Fields, and May in the OF. Rotation of Johnson, Beck, Turner is solid.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 20, 2016 -> 04:48 PM) Hickman was being talked about as a top 3 round pick going into the draft. He might be the biggest sleeper in the minors for the Sox. He probably won't have much of an impact just after TJS, but he is a guy who could explode into our top 5 next year. Is he going to be starting? I think Jordan Stephens is a guy that could easily be a top 10 guy too.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 20, 2016 -> 03:50 PM) I think Shuck is on the roster for sure right now. The team sees to like what he brings to the show. Maybe he is a little less needed with Jackson being able to play CF, but they still seem to see a fit for him. I don't really understand why though. He's bad in CF and doesn't hit RHP.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 20, 2016 -> 03:42 PM) Yeah, they have the two spots open in reality, plus they could easily free up another spot or two with strategic cuts. Sands and Shuck probably won't both be on the roster so that opens a spot too.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 20, 2016 -> 02:59 PM) I said it before, but the White Sox are perfectly set up to make a deal involving at least one of their relievers going outbound, and bringing in another bat. Maybe it is a good hitter with a bigger contract (Either? Bruce?) or maybe it is a roster spot crunch from another team (teams like Houston, LAD, and Tampa seem to be possibilities) but it makes so much sense. Carlos Sanchez may be expendable as well.
  16. Bernie Pleskoff ‏@BerniePleskoff Mar 19 Watch for #WhiteSox moves. They have only 37 men on their 40-man roster. Room for changes. 17. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 03:18 PM) Zach Phillips outrighted, and he elected free agency. 43 in camp. This move gives the White Sox 37 on the 40 man roster. One of those spots will be Rollins so they really have 2 spots available. I would expect someone added prior to opening day. Bernie Pleskoff ‏@BerniePleskoff Mar 19 Watch for #WhiteSox moves. 18. This is an excellent take by Barry Rozner: http://www.dailyherald.com/article/2016031..._medium=twitter
  19. QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 01:05 PM) Doesn't matter. It's not for them to make these types of statements publicly, especially after your owner has asked you not to speak on the subject. These are the types of things that get you traded by an old stubborn businessman, not things that get the GM fired. Eaton is a really good player. I wouldn't surprised if he doesn't have much of a future with the White Sox though.
  20. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 01:07 PM) I have a difficult believing KW just decided out of the clear blue to scale back Drake's presence in the club house and on the field without something being said to him first. Eaton is one to talk about KW " throwing it out there". He's been throwing plenty of stuff "out there" on Twitter. He's parading Twitter like a politician trolling for votes. Good to see Eaton and his big mouth are so focused on the upcoming season. Adam Eaton said that Drake LaRoche was a leader. It's absolutely absurd.
  21. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 12:28 PM) USA Today story. Claims Sox players and coaches complained: http://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/nighte...amp;ocid=onepro Mark We've been over this Mark. I said this 2 days ago. Multiple score personalities have said this. Nightingale said it. Welcome to the party I guess.
  22. Bob Nightingale basically said what was reported. Some players and coaches complained to the front office. He said they all liked the kid but were just uncomfortable about his constant presence. KW talked to LaRoche about. LaRoche completely ignored him. KW flipped out and told him the kid couldn't come anymore. Then KW obviously came to his senses and settled on much less time for Drake to be around. LaRoche chose to retire instead. Players didn't go to LaRoche. Bob also said it was inappropriate for Hahn or Ventura to handle it in their mind. Ventura needs his players to be united and play well in a lame duck year. Can't afford to split the room. Also mentioned that Hahn is still the contract negotiator. KW was the perfect guy to do this it just got botched along the way and wasn't perceived well because of Kenny Williams' overall absence in general. Bottom Line: I think the team will be fine and KW doesn't mind being disliked. He'd almost prefer it that way in my opinion.
  23. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 08:53 AM) Listening to Eaton, it seems like he thinks this will get smoothed over. I think bottom line for them...my sense is they hate Kenny Williams because they have no relationship with him, but they want to play for each other and everyone else around the team. So I don't think this is exactly over, but it may not have much impact on the results on the field. We'll see. I think it will have a positive result on the field because LaRoche won't be playing. They imported a bunch of veteran leadership types for a reason. The team will be fine.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 08:39 AM) Speaking of a deal being a deal. I'm assuming Kenny didn't mention that others were upset. LaRoche didn't take it seriously because KW isn't a player or coach. I'm definitely not defending LaRoche, just wanted to point that out.
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 07:17 AM) Why isn't there a single non-white player or coach on the side of LaRoche, inside or outside the White Sox organization? That's very telling. Hahn/Ventura/Sale/Eaton/Shark/Duke/Lawrie/Harper/Boyer=good KW/Rollins/Avila=evil Obviously it's not that simple, but imagine KW was to be fired. What free agent would want to sign with the White Sox, knowing that Sale and Eaton were basically running the club and dictating policy? If someone like Rodon, Abreu, Jackson or Navarro said that KW was completely wrong...then I might start to think pitchforks are in order, but everything must be much more complicated than it appears in terms of the real/true opinions of the majority of the rest of the team, especially players added this past offseason. Could have something to do with the White Sox letting LaRoche host a racist homophobe buddy at The Cell last year and make it a promotional night. It was disgusting then and it is now too.
