  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 18, 2016 -> 08:13 AM) http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/orioles...213-column.html Basically, the Orioles are/were in the same situation the White Sox are in...although the key difference is they have the best record in the AL over the past four years. By bringing back Davis, Wieters, O'Day and now looking to add two more big pieces in addition to Trumbo and Kim...they're also sending a huge signal to Machado in terms of signing him to a huge extension. Payroll for the O's would be around $150 million, pretty close to where the White Sox would have been adding Fowler and Desmond. Their pitching blows though and their system is bad.
  2. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Feb 18, 2016 -> 08:00 AM) If it's that certain that Gasol is opting out after the season, then we wouldn't be able to get someone as good as Gallinari. Gasol is opting out.
  3. QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 17, 2016 -> 11:05 PM) draft picks or not, the point is to finish this job of fixing this team. the statement of the owners want another WS ..... at what point is the value of that statement, unless it is about "as long as it in the the sox budget" It's not the owners. They could sign Fowler if they wanted to. Rick Hahn would rather have 3 top 50 draft picks and $9 million to spread around the draft. You can think that's a dumb decision but it's not a budget question in this case.
  4. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 18, 2016 -> 07:29 AM) The only silver lining I can find with this is that he isn't going back to the Cubs, thus making them weaker. Why do you care about that? Him leaving actually helps them. They get their 2nd round pick back and receive a bigger bonus pool.
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 17, 2016 -> 11:36 PM) If the Bulls could get Gallinari for Gasol, the deal would have happened a long time ago. The sweetner here is the Bulls are getting a solid first round pick for Pau, plus a solid defensive big and well, who knows what McLemore is. I think this leak might also be someone trying to get another team to up the anti. I also wonder if a larger deal might be possible for one of the Sixers youngsters as well. Interesting Woj's piece talking about how much Pau wants to stay. I wonder if Bulls ultimately do this, add assets, and then bring back Pau anyway this off-season. I would have thought Pau wasn't interested, but maybe things really aren't near as bad as perceived on the outside from a chemistry issue. Supposedly this deal is very close. Koufos is owed $24 million over the next 3 years. I'd probably still do it though to ensure myself of the pick and McLemore
  6. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Feb 17, 2016 -> 10:43 PM) What the hell is Gar Pax waiting for? Gasol also just followed the Sacramento Opera on twitter.
  7. https://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba-trade-dea...-023959300.html Later from Woj and Mannix: Gasol and Snell to Kings for Koufos, McLemore, and lowering the restrictions on 2016 1st rounder. That'd be a nice deal for the Bulls.
  8. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Feb 17, 2016 -> 02:57 PM) I've tried to stay patient through out this process but it's becoming increasingly hard to swallow the thought of them not making another move. I have a feeling the Fowler deal is going to piss some fans off if/when he signs with Baltimore. I get the "being on a budget" thing to a certain extent but I thought for sure that the Frazier move was them signaling they would do more than this... I don't think it's the budget. I think they want to spend $9 million on the draft.
  9. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 17, 2016 -> 12:44 PM) I've been on the Raburn train for a while. Perfect fit with LaRoche. I think Jerry Sands can do anything vs LHP that Raburn could do.
  10. Bill Simmons new website venture: http://news.yahoo.com/bill-simmons-reveals...WQDBHNlYwNzYw--
  11. QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 10:52 AM) So is he retired? He hasnt been in since the SB but they haven't announced any retirement as far as I know. No. He had a surgery. I was told he was done though. Handled weird. Maybe he'll stay til the end of the year?
  12. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 17, 2016 -> 11:33 AM) or they could just go with a 5 man rotation of Sale/Q/Latos/Rodon/EJ and throw Danks in the bullpen as the long reliever. Early to me is the first few weeks of the season. If the Sox are in the hunt in July/August/September/October, then obviously we want the top 3 to start as much as possible. Would the Braves trade Markakis and some $$ for Danks?
  13. Steve Kyler was on MUlly and Hanley toady and seems to think Joe Johnson ends up in Chicago after he gets bought out.

This new Chicago Open Air Rock Festival at Toyota Park sounds awesome. I'm getting married that weekend though. Damn.
  15. QUOTE (SoxSteve @ Feb 17, 2016 -> 12:50 AM) No not everyone and i suspect alot will be angry. Jackson is a nothing pickup and he shouldn't even be mentioned IMO. Fowler or go big for Puig. Jackson would be my preferred pickup. Upgrades the bad OF defense immensely.
  16. Brats, Beggars Sausage Pizza, and the Tex Mex Burrito's are great. Everything at The Cell is fantastic though.
  17. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 09:36 PM) OK Back to rumors http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/jose-re...spension-021616 It’s difficult to imagine Desmond’s price dropping to the point where the Rays could justify forfeiting their first-round pick, No. 13 overall. The White Sox, meanwhile, are more focused on adding an outfielder through free agency or trade, sources say. The Sox, like the Rockies, hold a protected pick, No. 10 overall. They conceivably could sign both Desmond and free-agent outfielder Dexter Fowler and sacrifice their next two selections, currently Nos. 28 and 49. But they also might be content to play Tyler Saladino at short until top prospect Tim Anderson is ready, perhaps later this season. If Fowler and Gallardo go to Baltimore and Desmond goes to Colorado, the White Sox would choose #11, #27, and #47
  18. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 02:13 PM) Very good way of looking at it. In that regard, the Sox pitching staff is even better than last year's by a wide margin on paper. There's a good chance that the Sox have the best rotation in the AL. Cleveland was #1 in fWAR last year and Sox were 2nd. Samardzija's 216 innings and K's did help though.
  19. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 09:55 AM) http://espn.go.com/blog/keith-law/insider/post?id=4736 Keith Law has some surprises in his top 10. It is behind paywall, so I'll summarize for those who can't access it. 1. Anderson 2. Fulmer 3. Adams 4. Michalczewski 5. Guerrero 6. Danish 7. Zangari 8. Leyer 9. Engel 10. Adolfo Leyer is the big shocker here as he didn't even make FutureSox top 30. Law notes that he is a "power-armed reliever" who has a good change-up. He was very complimentary of Zangari, saying he has "huge" upside. Law thinks Michalczewski can be average regular at 3B. Thinks Fulmer and Danish are both relievers. Still believes in Spencer Adams but velocity was low when he saw him in person. He thinks Engel is a 4th OF and also mentioned that Jacob May could be Sox 4th OF this season if they wanted him to be.
  20. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 09:33 AM) I wouldn't want Alex Guerrero if the Dodgers just gave him to the Sox for nothing. At this point he is just an older more expensive version of Avisail Garcia. ISO power % is better than Garcia
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 08:51 AM) There are plenty of things posted on Soxtalk that most of the staff disagrees with. The topics that can be handled with maturity and without personal attacks are not bothered. If that bothers you, there are plenty of places out there to discuss the Bulls. To be fair, White Sox game threads are worse than anything that was in that Fire Paxson thread.
  22. Every team is flawed. KC has bad starting pitching. The Twins have bad starting pitching. Indians might have the worst OF in baseball and the Tigers are 1 bad season away from being the AL version of the Phillies.
  23. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Feb 14, 2016 -> 01:52 PM) I honestly havent met a single person who says Obamacare has helped them. Mostly you hear people complaining that their job cut their hours or that peoples premiums have went up. It works fine for me but I'm a teacher and my healthcare is awesome. That being said, I do know a lot of people that had teaching degrees and couldn't find jobs. Being able to stay on their parents insurance until 26 really helped.
  24. QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 14, 2016 -> 11:45 AM) Not saying I agree with his points of view, but when he speaks, he seems to do so much more convincingly than a guy like Carson, for instance. I don't think the "it" factor is a measure of substance, but more so style. I guess but if the guy is a legitimate crazy person, why does it matter how well he speaks?
  25. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 13, 2016 -> 04:19 PM) Internet dancing on his grave. Justice Wainwright ‏@JusticeBlaine 15h15 hours ago Antonin #Scalia requested cremation in his will, but millions of women will meet tomorrow to discuss if that's really best for his body. Be offended if you'd like, but I think that's a quality tweet .
