  1. I'm going with Cory and Mitch tonight in the final
  2. I'm actually surprised Keith had them that high. He's not a fan of Fulmer which is evident with the Sox having only 1 top 100 guy.
  3. QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 01:15 PM) That is not bad. I would have guessed 25-28 Tim Anderson is the only guy in Law's top 100 from the Sox system. HE HATES THE WHITE SOX!!!!!
  4. QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 12:46 PM) If the Sox can pick up Desmond/Fowler on a 3 year (or less deal) with an AAV around 11 this offseason would have to be considered outstanding. Replace black holes at 3B/2B & SS/RF with three ~2 WAR+ players. Add an incredible value to the rotation and insulate from injury. Lose nothing from the pen and add a couple arms for more depth. Get a more offensively exciting catching position. Catcher = call it even First Base = same Second Base = good improvement Third Base = huge improvement Shortstop = either improvement because it can't get worse from '15 or big improvement in Desmond Left Field = same Center Field = same Right Field = Same or good improvement DH = Same, can't get worse SP1 = same SP2 = same SP3 = I'll call Rodon even to Samardzija but could go either way SP4 = improved SP5 = same Depth = better Bullpen = Everyone is back, Jones/Albers healthy + more depth in Kahnle, Aunmont, Lamb, etc. Is there one position they got worse at? Potentially catcher. That's it. The team lost Montas, Thompson, prospect depth and their payroll was raised just above the extent of salary inflation in average. This is a good offseason. Finish it. Stop making sense.
  5. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 10:18 AM) You should tweet that to him and see what he says. Zawaski is pretty good about hockey discussion and will admit when he is wrong and correct himself Oh yeah I know. That is his fixed column that I tweeted. They dropped one originally that had the cap numbers wrong. He fixed it and rewrote the article.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 12:32 PM) If he pitches 200 innings again, and gives us in the same 4.50 to 4.70 range, that is fine for the back of the rotation. He's just not good though. I think since this is the last year on the team, they may actually DFA him at some point if he's terrible or use him out of the bullpen. 2013: 4.08 ERA, 4.75 FIP 2014: 4.62 ERA, 4.74 FIP 2015: 4.49 ERA, 4.71 FIP 2016 Steamer: 143 IP, 4.77 ERA, 4.81 FIP. I'm not the biggest Erik Johnson fan but he can top that in my opinion. White Sox can't talk about contending and trot out John Danks every 5th day anymore. He can be given a shot at the beginning, but if he's bad, I think he'll be gone in one way or another.
  7. Here's an article by Jesse Sanchez today: http://m.mlb.com/news/article/164072426/te...ional-prospects
  8. Christie is suspending his campaign.....now he can be Kasich's VP..................
  9. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 10:55 AM) Does this theoretically move us up in that comp pick? Yes. Once Gallardo signs, the White Sox will have the 27th pick in the draft.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 12:50 AM) Bernie Sanders is the man on the Democratic side. Let's face it. If he was 10 years younger he'd be a LOCK. He's just a little bit old. He won big tonight, folks. I've been watching the post election shows and I've heard words like "desperate" regarding Hillary. I'm just repeating what I've heard. They said because of the African American support, she still is a lock to be the Democratic candidate, but the pundits are still questioning her bizarre screaming of her speeches and her desperate attitude, blaming a right wing conspiracy today. My only hope as a Hillary dis-liker, is that the FBI accuses her of a crime and charges are filed and b.) this African American vote is not a done deal. I'd prefer a Bernie vs. Trump election or even better Biden or somebody else decides to run and be the Demcratic nominee after all. Even Hillary supporters have to admit tonight was not a good result for Hillary Rodham Clinton. The country has never tried left-wing politics before. I'd like to see it but it's never happened. I don't think that changes this year.
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 10:17 AM) I don't really think Tom had issues. Other than you could say he should have done a better job getting along with Gar (but how do we know Gar didn't just totally sabotage him anyway). Gar seems like the "I'll throw anyone under the bus" possible type of guy. Who knows what he did to Tom that ultimately created the rift. All I know is Tom was a much better coach than Hoiberg and was one of the elite coaches in the league. Whomever gets him will be extremely lucky and I think in hindsight, Jerry has to realize the best course might have been to cut the middle man out (Gar) and see if Pax and Tom could have worked things out (essentially bought a year without Gar in the mix to see if it would help...especially based upon the reports that Thibs always, even to this day, respected Pax. I disagree. I don't think Thibodeau ever wins a championship unless he changes some things. He's a fantastic lead assistant (defense) though. People that work up there weren't disappointed to see him go. He's a good coach. The shelf life ran out though.
  12. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/02/orio...i-gallardo.html Orioles will give up the 14th overall pick to sign Gallardo. I'd rather have Latos for $3 million than Gallardo for $$ and a pick. Yuck.
  13. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 09:42 AM) If they can get Fowler at 2/20, what the f*** are they waiting for? They aren't waiting. Fowler isn't wiling to accept a deal like that yet. That's why he's not signed.
  14. The bring back Thibodeau people are humorous. Would they have a better record with Thibs? Yes. Would they probably get knocked out of the playoffs in the 1st or 2nd round with either coach? Yes. Tom had his issues. Hoiberg has issues. This is a very flawed roster that doesn't like playing with one another and it was the same way last year.
  15. Pretty good writeup from MLBTR as well: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/02/whit...-mat-latos.html
  16. I heard one story about when he was rehabbing in the minors. Kris Bryant hit a 1st inning homer off of him. He drilled Bryant the next time up. He's a bag. Hawk will love him for sure.
  17. Latos was terrible last year and still put up a 1.5 fWAR with a 3.72 FIP. This is his fWAR by year: 2010: 4.3 fWAR 2011: 3.8 fWAR 2012: 3.1 fWAR 2013: 4.8 fWAR Then he had shoulder surgery.
  18. So now Erik Johnson is traded for an OF?
  19. Great signing. He could find it and realistically be good enough to receive a QO next offseason. Giant douche though. Should be a fun season at least.
  20. QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 12:29 PM) MLB.com's top thirteen prospects has six OFers and six pitchers. BA's top seventen prospects has 10 pitchers and 6 outfielders. Obviously were a ways a away but the guesses to me are college pitcher or outfielder. Delvin Perez is a Puerto Rican SS that I expect in top 10. I'd rather look at HS bats like: Moniak, Will Benson, or Drew Mendoza instead of taking a pitcher like Jordan Sheffield. If one of the top 4 pitchers were there, that'd be a different story.
  21. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 11:30 AM) I think they will continue to get the best pitcher they can in the draft, and then trade some pitching for hitting at some point. They don't seem to have much of an appetite for HS position players and not sure their is a college position guy that has a ceiling to warrant a selection at 10. I disagree. Hostetler mentioned that HS and College bats are the strength. I think they'll take a pitcher with one of their 1st 3 selections but I think #10 is a position player unless a pitcher falls.
  22. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 09:56 AM) Here are the rules: You get to draft two historical players and a specific year of their career in order to guarantee the current white sox roster gets into the playoffs. Example: 98 Pedro Martinez - SP 96 Griffey Jr - CF Open Considerations: - Despite the fact that you are choosing the best year of a player, translation to current era can be factored in, despite the fact that it may severely undercut this exercise! - Team fit should be considered. Are you going to get 2 awesome position players? 1 pitcher/1 hitter to plug in CF? Are you going to take the world's best 2b regardless, who cares if Lawrie's on the bench? For my draft, I'm thinking going SP/CF, as above, but maybe even: 96 Griffey in CF 85 Dwight Gooden - SP Gooden had 16 complete games in 85, which is the sort of relief which will be a huge help when you have pitchers like Quintana and Rodon who may struggle going late. Also - I never saw him pitch, so want to see 1 player. Griffey in 96 was what I still think of for baseball. Move eaton to RF and deal with Melky in LF. Lineup: Eaton Cabrera Abreu Griffey Frazier Lawrie C Saladino Rotation: Sale Gooden Quintana Rodon Danks/Johnson Alternative mind games: 2 historical White Sox players to put us in the tops. For that I'll go offense alone. I think Billy Pierce would be a fine choice but pre 60s players scare me. 2003 Loaiza seemed soft to me. 94 Thomas - DH 98 Albert Belle- RF Just mash. 99 Pedro and 2015 Bryce Harper
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 09:48 AM) If you can get Ladd, you get him. He's a great locker room guy, isnt that old and is a fit on the top line. Completely agree. Would be a huge addition.
  24. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 09:02 AM) I am not sure that the Cubs are really going to jump in and create their own station, I think they would really struggle to find quality programming, even MLB and BTN struggle to find a lot of solid programming. I think the threat of creating their own network is more of a negotiating ploy to increase the value of their next TV contract and bring a "wildcard" bidder into the mix. They are absolutely going to get their own network. That's the plan.
  25. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 08:10 AM) He seems to think the hawks have less than 1 million in Cap space. Also I keep forgetting how young Shaw is, it seems like hes been around forever. So that Zawaski piece had the wrong numbers in it: http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2016/02/08/zaw...wks-jets-trade/ That outlines how getting Ladd is completely feasible.
