Phil Emery joining the Falcons front office. I found Shea McClellin's destination in free agency. All joking aside, that's where Phil belongs. He's a good dude and a decent scout. He has a place in an NFL front office. Shouldn't be in charge though.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 26, 2016 -> 01:29 PM) I wouldn't mind Jackson and do think his trade to Seattle screwed him up, but if you look at his splits, people would argue Safeco had anything to do with it. And isn't your home park built into your WAR? Yeah it probably is actually. I'd be on board with Fowler if he were a better defender.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 26, 2016 -> 01:01 PM) 2.3 2.2 1.4 3.2 The last 4 seasons Fowler's WAR. The 1.4 he missed a third of the season so he still is well above a 2.0 on average. And the last 4 years for Jackson are : 2015-2.3, 2014-0.9, 2013-3, 2012 5.4. He also played half his games at SAFECO Field recently. Jackson is the great defender that the White Sox need.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 26, 2016 -> 12:16 PM) Bears taking a close look at QB Carson Wentz. Measured out at 6'5 233 pounds and 10 inch hands QB1 in my opinion.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 26, 2016 -> 12:47 PM) Getting Desmond and Jackson makes so much sense It's the only scenario in which giving up a pick makes sense.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 26, 2016 -> 12:26 PM) Would you guys rather: - Give up prospects for Dickerson - Give up the draft pick and $$$ for Fowler For me, it's a hard question that I don't know the answer to. Which prospects?

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 26, 2016 -> 12:42 PM) But how much does it beat just getting Austin Jackson who will get you plus defense to go with your elite pitching (1-3) and doesn't tie you up long-term? Also - "not horrible" defense is what I heard about Melky and it seems to usually indicate pretty terrible. It's just a waste of resources. Is the more money, more years and a pick better than Jackson? Fowler is a good player, but I like him a lot less when he is rounded out by Eaton and Melky, whom total will provide us with 45 some hrs a year. Excellent Point. This is why I'd much rather have Austin Jackson, who was also a 2 WAR player last year.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 26, 2016 -> 12:24 PM) I would be game for this trade idea. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2610885...culation/page/5 Haha I think everyone would be.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 26, 2016 -> 10:24 AM) Thoughts on Corey Dickerson? Rosenthal tweeted out this morning that some in the game think he's the most likely of the Colorado OFers to go. Rays are involved. Could come cheaper than the others as well. What would it take to get him? Makes sense. They really don't have a CF if they trade Blackmon

The Big Short is excellent

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 26, 2016 -> 07:08 AM) Fwiw, the premise of the Rays' addition would be for him to split time with Brad Miller at SS and play some left field and DH as well. Right now, there's little consensus how well he would adjust to that role, ala Zobrist and now Logan Forsythe. He could DH vs LHP for us too with Saladino at SS.

White Sox rotation ranked 6th in the majors

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 26, 2016 -> 05:13 AM) http://ftw.usatoday.com/2016/01/mlb-best-a...s-nationals-mlb Cubs 1, Mets 2, Indians 4, Tigers 21, Royals 22, Twins 25 (but Berrios/Stewart on the way) How are the Cubs #1? Mets have Syndergaard, Harvey, de Grom, Matz, and Wheeler? I don't even know if I'd take the Cubs rotation over the Sox at this point. Sale and Arrieta is a wash. Quintana and Lester is a wash. I think I'll take Rodon over Lackey. Hendricks is probably better than Danks/Johnson but Hammel blows. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 25, 2016 -> 08:16 PM) Is Miller projected high? They ought to draft a WR...our top 4 are not models in health. Braxton Miller is projected in 4th round range

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 25, 2016 -> 12:31 PM) Dan @lot_49 @BenBadler Is Tim Anderson a top 25 guy, in your opinion? Ben Badler @BenBadler 35m35 minutes ago He'll be Top 100, but too many risk factors to put him in that group. Yeah he's not 25. Should be top 50 for sure though
-
I really hope the Bulls trade Pau Gasol. They probably won't though. The Kings are another positive development. Looks like the Bulls may get their 1st rounder after all
-
John Fox was the previous head coach of the Panthers and Broncos. Just a fun fact. Something really positive though is that he did help build that Denver defense. I expect Mailk Jackson and Danny Trevathan to be free agent targets of the Bears.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jan 25, 2016 -> 11:33 AM) I am not going to "dog" them for not getting Cespedes, its pretty clear he wanted to go back to the Mets. But giving up a pick for a declining middle infielder with poor defense is just a bad move to make. Just because they missed on one guy doesn't mean they should make a move like this just for the sake of making a move. Desmond isn't a bad defender.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 25, 2016 -> 10:52 AM) I would imagine the odds of his getting out of the NL are pretty low, no? Is it still NL first in the offseason or is it draft order?

Fangraphs' piece on Liriano: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/projecting-...-rymer-liriano/

I saw on twitter that Desmond is projected for 3 zWAR next season with 21 homers by the ZIPS projection.
-
QUOTE (Dunt @ Jan 25, 2016 -> 10:25 AM) I think Rymer Liriano would be a pretty interesting claim For sure he would. I think it'd have to be a trade.
-
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 24, 2016 -> 11:56 AM) Sale is better than Price and Greinke. Price was the best pitcher in the AL last year.
-
I'd like this move if the Dodgers ate some of the $$. Ethier absolutely raked vs RHP last year.

QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 02:44 PM) And Jackson doesn't have a pick attached. Desmond and Jackson or Fowler and Rollins. I don't know which I'd prefer. I guess the Fowler route is safer, the Desmond route more upside. Fowler's OBP would be a nice addition to the lineup. Hopefully they could get Desmond for 2 years plus a team option. He'd provide insurance against Anderson stalling out or struggling, plus injuries or poor performance from Lawrie or Frazier (the injury part) To the people overly concerned about losing a draft pick, consider that this is the last season in the foreseeable future when signing a qualified-offer free agent won't result in losing our top draft pick. I'd prefer Desmond and Jackson. Desmond is still good defensively and 2 years ago was good enough to turn down $100 million. He was probably the best SS in the NL behind Tulo. If he gives you power and defense at SS in the short-term, the White Sox would have a mighty thunderous infield. Then they could let him walk next year or the year after and get a pick back for him leaving.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 02:53 PM) Who knows what went down. These media-driven notions that the Nats offer of 5/100ish was "higher" are silly....The Mets' 3/75 with an opt out is a much better offer. The Sox FO just doesn't execute very well, however. Seem to lack a coherent strategy and the ability to pull the trigger. Or they weren't ever paying him $27 million in year 1 which is the most likely scenario
