The next market inefficiency...2nd/3rd tier pitching
Y2Jimmy0 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jan 4, 2016 -> 01:56 PM) You can count out Edwin Jackson. Close to agreement with marlins Fister has 1-2 year offers from multiple clubs. I wonder if the White Sox are one of those clubs -
QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jan 4, 2016 -> 10:42 AM) Cryptic tweet from an insider, apparently a typo Jim Bowden @JimBowden_ESPN 1m1 minute ago Pay Gordon & Angels sign Kendrick and Upton Was either a fan question or supposed to be a DM

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 4, 2016 -> 08:35 AM) I''m not 100% on this, but I think the Bears pick 11th in odd rounds and 8th in even rounds. So they pick 11th in 1st. 10th in 2nd. 9th in 3rd. 11th in 4th. 10th in 5th. 9th in 6th. 11th in 7th round. I just looked it up. They'll have picks #11, #41 (New England forfeits 1st rounder).

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 4, 2016 -> 09:30 AM) I like the draft and develop mentality of Ted Thompson. I think teams that try and win by signing free agents are usually the bad teams, but signing 2 or 3 low priced players isn't the end of the world. TT has had good success with that, but he seems to shy away from it for some reason. This is one thing that needs to change this off season, although I doubt it will. Ladarius Green is perfect type of player they should go after. Young and probably won't cost that much. Fills a big hole for them. I agree with this. They'll never "go nuts' in free agency and they have no reason to. There's also no reason to carry over a ton of cap space when you are a potential Super Bowl winner that has a few holes that could be easily filled in the short-term.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 4, 2016 -> 09:11 AM) WTF happened? They were cruising the first 6 games then it's like the Broncos beat them up and they never recovered. Personnel issues. Bad OL. Lack of skill players. Thompson's drafts haven't been as good and they never supplement the roster with free agents even though they have $$.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 4, 2016 -> 09:03 AM) The guy with the third highest ceiling isn't on that list. Adolfo?

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 4, 2016 -> 07:52 AM) If two teams had the same record, the team with the harder schedule is theoretically better because it was harder for them to win the same number of games. Fairest way I can think of to set the draft order, though it just happens to not work out well for the Bears. There are 4 teams with 6-10 records. Bears pick last of the 4 because of SOS. Don't they pick 1st of the 4 in round 2 though? That would give them the 39th pick.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 1, 2016 -> 10:58 PM) I wonder if one of her aides wrote that. Totally unacceptable on so many counts. Nobody can be that dumb, right? To root against your alma mater in a bowl game?? I mean, cmon. Gary Bedore @GaryBedore 3m3 minutes ago Only way Carly can save face with that tweet is to say one of her campaign workers had her twitter access. Can't root against alma mater.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 1, 2016 -> 10:55 PM) If Nightengale or whoever wrote it is correct in saying we are only offering 3 years, we are not going to sign Upton, Gordon or Cespedes. That's not being negative, that's a fact, right?? In what scenario would any of those guys go for three years? Posturing. They know it won't be a 3 year deal.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 1, 2016 -> 05:38 PM) Ian O'Connor @Ian_OConnor I'll say this much -- comparing Christian McCaffrey to Reggie Bush isn't as bad as Dan Quayle comparing himself to JFK. He's a much more dangerous Tim Dwight minus the steroids...name from back in the day. Well, at least there's no heartbreak in this one. I'll be somewhat pacified if the bb team were to win at W.Lafayette, but's that's not likely either. The 2002 and 2008 Iowa teams were much better...as well as the Drew Tate led team in 2005 that beat LSU in the bowl and the one that whipped Florida. Lots of heart but lacking in talent other than OL, Desmond King, rb. McCaffrey reminds me of Brian Westbrook. That's the comp. -
QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Jan 1, 2016 -> 07:16 PM) My guess is Cespedes wants 5 years and the Sox want 4 years. It's a good sign that they are playing media games and Abreu is "recruiting." It means the Sox really want him and aren't just going to walk away like they did with Tanaka. Kenny gets his man, remember that. I'm guessing that Cespedes actually wants 6 and the Sox would go 5. I bet Gordon wants 5 and Sox would go 4. It's negotiating. Chris Cotillo said the other day that Sox are looking at 4-5 year deal

The White Sox know that they can't get one of these guys for 2-3 years. Rick Hahn isn't stupid. I wouldn't worry until guys start coming off the board.

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Dec 31, 2015 -> 11:40 AM) I honestly think he'd sign a 4 year deal at $15M AAV to stay in KC. I think all these guys are realizing that their market isn't going to land nearly as much as they thought. Was talking to a friend last night & he brought up a good point. Heyward signs for less than most expected, which already somewhat hurt the rest of the OF market. Upton seems the most set at waiting it out & now there are rumors of him taking a 1 year deal. Cespedes has already talked about firing his agent once this year & I think they simply overstated his market & he's having a hard time coming back to reality now. Gordon obviously wants to stay with KC but wants to be making more than someone like Melky. I think he'll use all the leverage he has, especially with his agent to get KC has high as possible & will ultimately re-sign with them for lesser money than any other offer he gets. I don't think there's any way he stays in Kansas City for 4 years and $60 million. If that were the case, he'd be done already.

Sox Acquire All-Star 3B Todd Frazier from Reds in 3 team deal

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Dec 31, 2015 -> 12:41 PM) I get the feeling that if they add one of the two OF'er (especially Cespedes), I think they'll bring back Alexei on a cheap 1-2 year deal. Jon Heyman mentioned Jimmy Rollins in his column today. -

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 31, 2015 -> 01:15 PM) Sign Floyd to a minor league deal with an invite to Spring Training and Latos to a 1 year, $1.5 million deal with a crapload of incentives. There you go. Latos will get more than that. -
Bananas is a douche but he knows how to play the game. CT coming should be nuts.

QUOTE (peavy44 @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 12:23 PM) There alot people trying be ken rosenthal hes the best. Yeah what's your problem, man? We have 2 guys on this board and (Rock in the past) that have given good intel over time. It helps everyone on the board with transparency and should be appreciated. There's absolutely no reason to be a dick about it.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 03:32 PM) RHP Rookie Davis is part of the package. I'll guess that the rest is 3B Eric Jagielo, LHP Ian Clarkin, and SS Kyle Holder. Just a shot in the dark. Bryan Hoch @BryanHoch 3m3 minutes ago Yankees have acquired Aroldis Chapman from the Reds for RHPs Caleb Cotham and Rookie Davis and INFs Eric Jagielo and Tony Renda. 30 retweets 8 likes Well I got 2 of the 4

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 03:31 PM) American League is absolutely loaded Is it though? I think there are like 13 teams that could potentially make the playoffs. There are good teams but not really anyone that's a favorite. NL has 8 teams battling for 5 spots and 7 terrible teams.

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 03:27 PM) Jack Curry @JackCurryYES 2m2 minutes ago Hearing Yankees will give up 4 minor league players for Chapman. But none from elite group of Sanchez, Judge, Mateo, Bird, etc. RHP Rookie Davis is part of the package. I'll guess that the rest is 3B Eric Jagielo, LHP Ian Clarkin, and SS Kyle Holder. Just a shot in the dark.

What is the Sox fall back OF plan ?

QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 26, 2015 -> 10:15 AM) well, i would know the whole answer for that.... but i think, if i had to assume, polanco is 23 yrs old, and with his arb yrs sever more yrs away... whereas, marte is 26 yrs old, in the middle of a contract which is, i don't know if one would say is back loaded. these yrs now will see his salary increase. also remember the pirates are on a very strict budget and they do have a team to be taken serious. it is all about the money. look at baseball ref i http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...shtml#contracts Marte isn't being traded. None of the OF's are. Josh Bell is the stud prospect that will be ready but he was moved to 1B. McCutchen, Marte, and Polanco will be in the Pirates OF -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 26, 2015 -> 08:21 AM) Betts, Castillo, Bradley, Jr., and then what to do with Hanley? 1b probably. Detroit's still going to be a player here, imo. And don't discount the Angels and Royals if the price drops... Houston has too many outfielders already, they were willing to deal Domingo Santana but they seem pretty well set with their younger core guys and unlikely to spend huge dollars. The Cardinals after Leake can really only go after Gordon. That still creates a situation where you have the Red Sox, Angels, Tigers and Orioles who could take runs at Cespedes and Upton, and the White Sox, Cards and Royals for Gordon. I can't imagine the Cubs unless they were willing to move Schwarber to RF and that just feels like way too much spending for one offseason already with their debt load. They have Chris Young and Brock Holt in the Of as well -
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 25, 2015 -> 09:04 AM) Maybe Kennedy but I only see that if they trade Cashner and Ross and Kennedy is still a free agent in like February and signs for cheap (possible one year deal to try again next year?). Kennedy should have taken the QO. He could have become a free agent next year in a horrible class of starting pitchers.
