  1. QUOTE (Dunt @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 10:37 AM) Interesting, you think they prefer Stephens in the rotation instead of out of the pen? He was a starter in college. There's no reason not to have him start until he can't.
  2. QUOTE (coco1997 @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 09:49 AM) Yankees, Cubs Have Discussed Trade Involving Brett Gardner, Starlin Castro I like that better for Yanks actually. Gardner can't play CF regularly.
  3. QUOTE (Dunt @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 08:45 AM) Best Team Money Could Buy? Was thinking about picking that up for vacation Yes sir. It details The McCourt stuff all the way through last year's postseason loss. It's really good. It's different but Big Data Baseball about the Pirates is awesome as well. Similar to Moneyball.
  4. QUOTE (Dunt @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 08:29 AM) Ya, at best I see Fulmer starting in AA. Probably get 2-3 starts at high A, then move to AA. THAT rotation though. I think Fulmer could see action in White Sox bullpen. The negative to that with Rodon was that you didn't want to waste any service time with a Boras client. I wouldn't rule out Fulmer signing a Sale/Q contract at some point so the service time issue isn't as big of a deal IMO.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 08:36 AM) Those people are idiots. Miami is a top ten job strictly based on recruiting alone. I'll say this, it is VERY hard for all three major Florida programs to be good at the same time, so someone who can actually coach needs to come into Coral Gables or they will continue to do nothing. They have terrible facilities but if you can recruit from that area, it's a very good job still. I think Mario Cristobol gets that gig and does a great job. Rock, where do you think Les Miles ends up? That situation fascinates me.
  6. I'm referencing Molly Knight's book again, but yes it was that good. That whole story about Greinke is detailed in there. He's very smart but he's an introvert and just very odd. He has tendencies similar to someone with Asperger's Syndrome at times. The Greinke stuff in that book is fascinating. It's not surprising that he's had the anxiety issues that he's had. I'd also be stunned if he doesn't end up back in LA or in SF. Chicago or New York would eat that dude alive.
  7. QUOTE (oldsox @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 07:01 AM) My Avi glass is half full, maybe more. He knows 2016 is a big year for him and his career, and the White Sox represent the best chance for him to achieve whatever it is that he wants to achieve. Lets see how he does in ST; if he shows up 20 pounds heavier and swings at too many pitches in the dirt, then he made his choice. I'm betting the opposite, that he'll show up in shape and ready for a good year. At most, he should be a part-time OF and DH vs LHP. He can't be in the OF on a regular basis if the Sox plan on "contending".
  8. QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 10:20 PM) Am I the only one who thinks Hahn wants to blow it up and do a Astros/Cubs rebuild but KW and JR are standing in the way of it? He doesn't want to trade Eaton, Abreu, Rodon, Q, and Sale. I don't think he was totally on board with signing DRob, LaRoche, and Melky though.
  9. I read Molly Knight's great book about the Dodgers. In it are details about how the White Sox were all over Puig during the recruiting process. The Dodgers just offered so much more than anyone else even thought of offering. Pretty interesting.
  10. QUOTE (Dubzinski rules @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 02:19 PM) My choices for next year's minor league starters are: AAA: Fulmer, Montas, Beck, Marin, Jaye. AA: Danish, Guerrero, Barnette, Brennan, R. Leyer A: Clark, Erwin, Almonte, Adams, Lowry Low A: Wheeler, Quintero, Quijada, Solórzano, Comito Left out or moved on from: Heidenreich, Cose, Valerio, Banks, Einhardt. Still have hope for: Peralta, Thompson, De La Cruz, Martinez, Easterling. The Winston Salem rotation looks stacked. I don't think Fulmer will start in Charlotte.
  11. QUOTE (scs787 @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 02:19 PM) Am I the only one hoping Micah's defense comes around and he is the starting 2nd basemen next year? Read that he's taking up boxing to improve his footwork. How about the rocks that he has for hands?
  12. QUOTE (GREEDY @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 02:11 PM) This is why I think Hahn is likely to blow this thing up. Aggressive but realistic moves just can't put this roster anywhere close to contention unless Mekly & LaRoche somehow miraculously get back to career averages. They're not blowing it up.
  13. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 12:36 PM) Thanks. I know Walker is better, but I don't think 2B should be our concern. 3B is a bigger problem IMO. I understand this but I still think just improving in general is the point.
  14. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 12:34 PM) What was Trayce's wRC/WAR for the last 2 months of the season? That's kind of my point. In small sample sizes, the guy was gangbusters for the first 30 or so at bats. Then he dropped off dramatically. I'm sure Avi's wrc/war was great for the first month or two of the season when he was hitting above .300 too in 155AB's. Trayce is much more valuable though because he's a similar hitter and plays way better defense.
  15. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 11:19 AM) I really don't think they are going to go into the season with Trayce as a starter. If Garcia does get moved I think it is to open a spot in an attempt to sign Upton or Cespedes. If Garcia is moved and you fail to sign and guy, then so be it Trayce becomes a starter. Dan Hayes said on twitter that they wouldn't be signing one of the big name OFs earlier. Even if they traded Garcia. Theu aren't paying $100 million for a free agent OF
  16. He's bad but this thread is ridiculous. Nowhere does it say that they are interested in dumping him for whatever they can get. It clearly states that they may have to include him in a deal to acquire offensive upgrades. It also mentions an NL Scout that said they are frustrated with him. Of course they are. He's a bad baseball player. I'm pretty sure just getting rid of him because, for nothing, is not going to happen.
  17. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 06:22 AM) i was thinking the other day of the pirates and again my crazy idea.... beside that, i guess pitt will try not to compete in the NL Central. but if walker was in a pkg with others players from pitt. walker will be a nice 3b if needed. now pitt is saying the positive stuff about Pedro Alvarez ... Pirates want to move Walker because they can play Jung at 3B and Harrison at 2B. Paying Neil Walker $10 million is a luxury that the Pirates don't really have.
  18. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 06:47 AM) I think it's a bit crazy to call him a "right-handed Mark Trumbo" because his numbers declined over the course of his rookie season. Like all young players, he'll need to make adjustments, but the power & on-base skills are legit. He has a chance to be one of the best hitters in baseball, something our system doesn't currently have in the pipeline. What I don't get is the love for Jorge Soler. Dude put up Avi-like numbers last year, is a horrible defender (poor instincts), and is made of glass. If he's the centerpiece of a Quintana trade, you're very likely going to be on the losing end of the deal. Agree with this. Schwarber, Torres, and Contreras for Quintana is a deal I'd make. Cubs and Sox aren't trading with each other though.
  19. QUOTE (Dunt @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 10:40 PM) @FanSided: The #Pirates are shopping Neil Walker, and the #Orioles are among those interested. https://t.co/Mf5Z2W1pdG This is a trade that makes too much sense for the White Sox. A 2-3 win 2B that can probably be had at a reasonable price and could slide in pretty well in the 2 hole. And I believe he could be offered a QO next year or traded at midseason. Pirates need to clear the salary.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 02:23 PM) Do high school kids choke? How could Bro Rice blow that 17 point lead late in the third quarter vs. Palatine. Now Rice has to contend with a rejuvenated St. Laurence, while Marist is always good now and St. Rita probably isn't going anywhere. That had to be humbling for Bro Rice. They'd have won the game had it been played on Pulaski. Palatine is good, Rice's defense is a sieve, and they may have looked ahead to Loyola instead of putting their foot on the gas.
  21. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 02:18 PM) Dan Hayes ‏@CSNHayes 26s26 seconds ago Dan Hayes Retweeted August f**erstrom Deep look at what Jose Quintana might be able to fetch in trade. Was told last wk it'd take "small army" of hitters. And this is the right mindset. Nobody is really opposed to trading Jose Quintana. They are just opposed to seeing him traded for Javy Baez or Starlin Castro or something really stupid. Hahn and Kenny would never do that though. If Q goes, a lot will be coming back in return.
  22. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 02:06 PM) Why not just do 50% of what happened, 50% of what should have happened, seems the fairest way to do it. Take the average of the bWAR and fWAR. Kershaw had the best FIP. I'd use that over ERA any day.
  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 01:00 PM) I think the Dodgers and Red Sox are two good places to look in terms of Q / Sale. Both have a lot of upper level major league ready (or already in major league) prospects. I don't because those teams are easily able to keep their prospects and spend $$ on a starter. I think a team like the Pirates would be much more likely to trade for Q or Sale because they could never get a player like that otherwise.
  24. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 01:05 PM) Their is zero chance it will be anyone other then Arrietta. That said, if I were voting I'd give it to Greinke, followed by Jake followed by Kershaw. f*** bwar. Actual performance by Greinke (and run reduction) was absolutely incredible (as was Jake's). Stats might say one should have been better, but I award individual performance based upon real performance and results, not hypothetical shoulda woulda coulda performance. Last year, Quintana induced a popup to LCF with 2 guys on base. Eaton misplayed the ball and it landed. 2 Earned Runs scored. Examples like that are why I tend to use what should have happened rather than what actually happened. Kershaw won't win. But he's the best pitcher in baseball and he was the best last year as well.
  25. QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 11:53 AM) Kershaw should get 30 3rd place votes. I'm going to guess Arrieta will get about 18 1st's and 12 2nd's. Arrieta is going to win because he and Greinke are too close to call, because of the dominant 2nd half, the no-hitter, and because he's never won a Cy before. When it's very close I think some voters will give it to the guy that hasn't won before. It would be cool if they both got 15 1sts and 15 2nds, because it's that close. Kershaw was better than both guys though........
