  1. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-white-s...-jose-quintana/ Good piece here. Someone that actually understands what Quintana is worth.
  2. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 10:36 AM) It is B but I feel Arrieta will win. Maddon had a good season but I think Mahany was better. There is serious cub love right now and I think it carries over to this voting. I personally think Arrieta should win MVP but not the Cy Young Kershaw was the better pitcher Arrieta was the most valuable player to his team Harper is the MVP. No questions asked. Lock of the century. He put up a Barry Bonds season. Kershaw should win MVP but I agree that it'll be Arrieta.
  3. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 09:58 AM) Well Pitcher B is Kershaw, I have no idea who Pitcher A and C are because they don't match Greinke and Arrieta's stats I messed up the initial post. I just fixed it.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 09:56 AM) ERA for player A is wrong I believe Yep sorry. Fixed it. Supposed to be 1.66
  5. Which pitcher should win the NL Cy Young? Pitcher A: 5.9 fWAR, 2.76 FIP, 1.66 ERA, GB% 48%, 0.57 HR/9, 1.62 BB/9, 8.08 K/9, 222 IP, 32 starts, 200 strikeouts Pitcher B: 8.6 fWAR, 1.99 FIP, 2.13 ERA, GB% 50%, 0.58 HR/9, 1.62 BB/9, 11.64 K/9, 232 IP, 33 starts, 301 strikeouts Pitcher C: 7.3 fWAR, 2.35 FIP, 1.77 ERA, GB% 56.2%, 0.39 HR/9, 1.89 BB/9, 9.29 K/9, 229 IP, 33 starts, 236 strikeouts
  6. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 12:04 AM) Rabbit said 2 yrs/$16M. I had originally said I would offer him 1 yr/$7M. He signed with the A's for 1 yr/$6M. He was NEVER going to get a 2 year deal. I bet Beane spins him for a top 150 prospect in baseball in July.
  7. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Nov 17, 2015 -> 02:13 PM) Not sure I agree. Kimbrel had a 90% save rate on a slightly worse team. I am not big on War for relievers but Kimbrel was better there as well. If I was Hahn I would have been tempted by that package since it had a couple of pretty highly rated middle infielders that were blocked in Boston. You actually can. They had very similar season's. Robertson: 1.8 fWAR, 2.52 FIP, 3.41 ERA, GB% 35.6, 0.99 HR/9, 1.85 BB/9, and 12.22K/9 in 63.1 innings. Kimbrel: 1.5 fWAR, FIP 2.68, ERA 2.58, GB% 46, 0.91 HR/9, 3.34 BB/9, and 13.20K/9 in 59.1 innings.
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 17, 2015 -> 01:33 PM) I feel like "Montas won't be a starter" is just a superficial scouting report that catches on because it's repeated ad nauseum. Like "Sale will get Tommy John", a way of discounting needing to look or give them a chance because you know something. It's not though. I usually don't write guys off and in the White Sox case, I won't write off Montas either. He doesn't really have a 3rd pitch though and he has like 45 command. I bet they sell high and use him in a package to a team that thinks he can start.
  9. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 17, 2015 -> 11:43 AM) Terrence Cody convicted of animal neglect. The pictures are just terrible of what he did to his dog http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/...1116-story.html Terrance Cody is out of the league because of it too. Greg Hardy plays on Sunday.
  10. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 17, 2015 -> 10:32 AM) Couldn't agree more. Montas was frustrating to watch at times but as its already been said, he's only 22 so there's no reason to doubt his potential. SOX fans need to be patient. I've had doubts myself but then I look at video of his stuff and realize there's still huge upside in Montas. Just my opinion but I think Montas has more upside than Fulmer and would prefer the Sox traded Fulmer instead of Montas, if one of them is to be traded that is. My bad, didn't realize Margot was rated that high. On paper it does look like a bad trade but I'll wait on actually saying it is a bad trade until those prospects develop into something or flop. I won't because what the prospects do is irrelevant. I think it's bad because they could have used those same prospects to get someone more valuable. I think Fulmer has a better chance at being a starting pitcher than Montas does so I disagree there as well.
  11. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 17, 2015 -> 09:12 AM) While I believe Robertson has value, I don't think it's as much as Kimbrel due to Kimbrel being a better closer. The Padres got some nice talent in return but one thing to remember is that Boston did not give up any of their best talent. I really don't know what to expect in a return for Robertson but I do know that I keep my expectations somewhat low. Margot was their #3 prospect. Guerra is going to be really good in my opinion. People keep saying that those guys are blocked anyway which I do understand. It doesn't mean you should trade them for a guy that will give you 60 innings of value per year though. It's a bad trade.
  12. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 17, 2015 -> 07:03 AM) 7-3 This is about where they belong. Pau looks old and bad, Jo is basically toast, Rose can't really get up for any sort of consistency... Niko can't guard Kyyle. The Bulls are destined for a 2nd round exit. They haven't looked great but I believe they are #2 in the East
  13. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 16, 2015 -> 11:29 PM) I think the insane price aces will get make Sale's value even higher, not lower. But, I don't expect any team to actually give up full value for Sale either which is why I'm confident Sale will be the White Sox opening day starter in '16. Nothing wrong with discussions on what he could bring back in a trade though and especially since us fans haven't had much to talk about so far. I think you'll hear about it more next year if the White Sox miss the playoffs again. Next year's free agent pitchers are 1. Stephen Strasburg 2. Brett Anderson...................
  14. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Nov 17, 2015 -> 01:38 AM) I dont think any player with a QO attached is a buy low candidate. This is a great post.
  15. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 13, 2015 -> 06:44 PM) I'm all for playing Saladino. It doesn't seem to sit well with anyone else. Aybar is terrible...he should be had for basically zilch, unless the Braves just want to hang on until July, pray he has a good first half. The Braves have been willing to suck up salary as they rebuild...they are a little different than most in that regard. Alexei moving on was the first step in de-clowning this team. He needs to stay away. Let him go, please. I bet Ramirez and Aybar would both have better seasons than Saladino if he played every day. Looks like a utility guy to me.
  16. I'm always in favor of trading relief pitchers. Position players and starting pitching is more valuable. I loved the premise of the Addison Reed trade, they just acquired a player that sucks. I don't think they have any interest in trading Robertson. They aren't "rebuilding". They just aren't going nuts in free agency. If I could get close to what San Diego just got, I'd move Robertson in a second though. Then I'd install Montas as closer. Then I'd spin him too as soon as he started getting expensive.
  17. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Nov 16, 2015 -> 03:46 PM) why are the Braves so poverty stricken? yes, they sucked, but they have a huge fanbase throughout the south. Atlanta is a big TV market. ??? They're not poverty stricken.
  18. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 16, 2015 -> 02:06 PM) An exec of a team that's talked to the Reds says he's convinced Todd Frazier "is legitimately out there" to be traded for - for a big return https://twitter.com/jaysonst/status/666325175277867010 He had a bad 2nd half. I honestly wouldn't give up that much. 4.4 fWAR. Had a wRc+ of 114 and wOBA of 342 with 35 homers. He's going to be 30 years old in Fenruary and has 2 years left on his deal.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 14, 2015 -> 03:09 PM) How much Loyola pay the refs in this game? I was there. It was pretty bad. Did they show the holding call on tv on the big play that was called back? Seemed to be bulls***. 1 penalty for Loyola all day.
  20. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Nov 14, 2015 -> 02:12 PM) Depending on what happens with the QO's they could have a pick before #30. Last year the #10 overall pick had a value of $3,231,300 and picks before #30 have a value of around $2M. The Sox could have about $7.1M to spend on their first four picks (First round, comp pick, second and third rounds) in the draft, going on the values from the 2015 draft. I think it's a safe bet that they'll pick in the 26-28 range. There are 17 free agents with QO's attached. Even if only 6 teams lose 1st rounders, that puts the Sox at #27. Ideally it'll be like 8 teams and they'll get the 25th pick.
  21. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Nov 14, 2015 -> 02:26 PM) I just posted this in the 2016 draft thread: Depending on what happens with the QO's they could have a pick before #30. Last year the #10 overall pick had a value of $3,231,300 and picks before #30 have a value of around $2M. The Sox could have about $7.1M to spend on their first four picks (First round, comp pick, second and third rounds) in the draft, going on the values from the 2015 draft. They'll pick before 30. I'll say on the safe side that 6 teams lose 1st rounders. That gives them the 27th pick.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 13, 2015 -> 01:47 PM) If there was a 4-5 guaranteed WAR guy for the next few seasons, the Sox wouldn't care about the draft pick, but those guys also come with huge price tags. It will be interesting to see if anyone else takes the QO, and how the acceptance changes things moving forward. I am shocked Weiters took it, but when you think about it, it shouldn't be so shocking. You have to give up a pick for a guy who hasn't played a full season in a while. The offers couldn't have been that high. If he gets the $15.8 this year, and becomes an average catcher, he probably gets the same offers next year without the QO. I believe that they can offer him the QO again next year can't they?
  23. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 13, 2015 -> 01:11 PM) The teams who have a top 10 protected pick should be the MOST aggressive on players who were offered QO's. It's the teams that would have to give up a 1st RD pick that should be very very afraid. If anything, Weiters market should have been very small for us. The problem is that the Sox have to give up the pick that they will receive for Samardzija. If it was their 2nd rounder, I'd agree with you. However, the only reason they didn't give up Shark was to obtain that pick. It's going to be in the 25-28 range. I believe that takes them out of the market for any FA with a QO attached.
  24. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 13, 2015 -> 12:23 PM) They can't trade him. In the story on MLBTR about Rasmus accepting, it says the team can't trade him until June (or maybe July). They can give him another QO next year though.
