QUOTE (scs787 @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 03:27 PM) I THINK its 13mill but I'm not positive. Fairly certain it's above 10 though. At this point I think it would be foolish to cut him and go after a QB in this meh class. This team is a lot closer to competing with Jay Cutler than with a rookie QB. Bonuses are already paid. If they cut him as designate as a June 1st Cut, he'd cost $5 million in 2016, and $5 million in 2017. No reason to release him though.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 10:25 AM) Hey greg, in their first playoff game, Brother Rice went up 49-0 in the second quarter! They called off the dogs then but that's really impressive vs decent competition I hope it's Brother Rice and Homewood Flossmoor in the semis. Would be such an awesome game of contrasting styles. -
QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 1, 2015 -> 08:50 PM) Hard to believe TheoHoyer would part with a first rounder for Alex Gordon Do the Royals get a 1st rounder if Gordon declines an option?
-
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Oct 31, 2015 -> 09:47 PM) Money wins out 99% of the time. Yep. He'll sign with the team that offers the most. Especially since he'll already have a World Series ring.

According to Jon Heyman, the White Sox are one of the teams with interest in Alex Gordon. This is from his column: http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-he...don-market-more Gordon going? Royals outfielder Alex Gordon, who according to sources will not exercise his $14-million player option, is expected to have a huge free-agent market. The Cubs, White Sox, Orioles and Astros are among teams rumored to have interest, but there will be many more. However, the Royals are hoping to keep him, quite likely with an offer of about four years. Since he accepted a team-friendly four-year deal last time, there is reason to hope. And while he got only four while in his 20s, he can probably find five if he's open to leaving. Is Kansas City able to offer him a QO after he doesn't exercise his deal?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 30, 2015 -> 09:13 AM) He put up a .304 OBP in AAA last year. He was really good during his call up. Maybe he clicked with Steverson, but more than likely, if Trayce played everyday, his numbers would be worse than they were in AAA. I'd be willing to bet Adam LaRoche puts up a better OPS than Trayce next season, if Trayce was playing every day. In his defense, he didn't take as many walks as Charlotte because they wanted him to cut down on his strikeouts. If they want him making more contact than his .OBP is definitely going to be lower.

Alex Anthopoulos quits as Jays GM after turning down extension

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Oct 29, 2015 -> 11:11 AM) Just speculating but it sounds like AA has something else lined up. To me, its surprising he turned down a five year extension after positioning Toronto to be legit contenders. I feel the same way. He knows where he's going next. -
Alex Anthopoulos quits as Jays GM after turning down extension

Is Anthopolous going to Miami or will he like consult for a year before being the biggest GM name available? -
QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 06:56 PM) If Thibs was still the coach people would be freaking out that Portis didn't play. Nope. We would have complained about Mirotic still not playing enough. Mirotic never would have scored all those points in the Cavs game because as soon as he let up that dunk he would have been on the bench.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 29, 2015 -> 08:40 AM) AA not returning to the Blue Jays is a bit shocking. He turned an extension. Does Shapiro go after KW now? I'm pretty sure Kenny doesn't want to be 2nd in charge somewhere else. He wants to be the First Black President of a team.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 10:02 PM) I don't think anyone is penciling him for 33 starts. They're going work with his health, watch him pitch and evaluate. The cost is use of a roster spot. He has a much better ceiling than Drabek, like SS2K said, and he's a couple years younger than Drabek was. You don't have to buy in but at the very least he's low risk with considerable upside. I know Cubs' fans weren't happy about losing him. Drabek lost his stuff with all the injuries. Turner didn't. Just never finished developing and needs to develop 3rd pitch and get over injuries. I love this move.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 03:43 PM) I believe it's 38. Could be wrong, but I had 37 in my mind before this pick-up. Three on that list are pretty certain to be moved: Shark, Beckham, and Webb. It's in the thread. 40 man stands at 38. Shark, Soto, Albers, and Beckham will be off soon. They could outright someone like Scott Carroll to get it to 33.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 01:17 PM) Can't believe he's still so young. My informed Cubs fan friends are both pretty fond of him. Apparently if he didn't get hurt in ST he would have been their #5. I've had contacts mention the same. I've always liked him. Big time upside. I think he's a major league bullpen piece at minimum. He'd be nasty with just his fastball and off speed pitch.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 11:14 AM) The Sox shouldn't trade Q unless they get at least 2 of a team's top 10 prospects as well as a lower ranked one with a lot of potential. I think they need to get guys close to major league ready or young guys already in majors. Trading Q for prospects doesn't really make sense.

If they could move Danks and go with Johnson and Buehrle as 4/5, I'd be fine with it. I'm not moving Quintana though unless I get a ton back.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 09:17 AM) That said, who has more potential superstar offensive upside at his age at a discounted, "buy low" price...at the current moment? Waiting with bated breath. I'd still take the chance on Puig. I just read Molly Knight's book "The Best Team Money Can Buy" about the Dodgers. It's really good and there is tons of Puig stuff in there. It talks about how the White Sox were one of the few teams that scouted him and really wanted him. Part of the reason why Dodgers offered so much money at the time.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 09:10 AM) And doing pretty poorly. In A ball. Yeah, because no one will claim him. But I think in Smith's case, he could be claimed. Northside, do you have the list of guys that will be exposed to Rule 5 if unprotected? Sox are in a position to make a bunch of claims of guys like this. Cubs in particular have a lot of guys Rule 5 eligible. Astros in the same boat.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 27, 2015 -> 10:08 PM) Great pick up. Low risk, high reward. Roster at 39 now? The roster is at 38. Albers, Samardzija, Soto, and Beckham going to free agency will bring it to 34 and outfighting someone like Carroll could bring it to 33. How many guys need protecting for Rule 5?

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/10/jaco...-white-sox.html I like this move. No risk at all. 24 year old former 1st rounder that many here have wanted in the past. Worth a look.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 27, 2015 -> 08:01 AM) Great post, but Papelbon? I don't see why anyone would want a guy who chokes his own teammates during games. I'd take Papelbon straight up for LaRoche. It's not idea. At least Papelbon has some value as an 8th inning guy though.

QUOTE (spiderman @ Oct 26, 2015 -> 10:42 AM) There seems to be speculation that Ramirez's option may be picked up. I'd actually be pretty surprised if it isn't picked up honestly.

Any SIU football fans here? One of my players at Lockport just committed today. OL. Really good kid and player.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 25, 2015 -> 09:54 PM) I will say this: If KC offered Gordon 15 million a year for 4 years he should take it. He has a chance to be the third kingpin in this town behind Brett and Len Dawson. I mean, first of all, KC can probably stomach giving him 15 million a year. I would think they could afford that. This isn't like letting Butler go; this is a key cog in two WS teams. At the same time, like Ned Yost said on a pregame show this year, "when Alex is going bad; he really goes bad." He gets in MASSIVe slumps. Now I'm saying he's the best fielder in left in the game and he's a fine player. But seriously will somebody give him 22 million a year?? Alex Gordon?? He's over 30. At what point do you actually give a Konerko discount?? Never?? Again ... if Alex Gordon is dumb enough to go to the Yankees or Red Sox or Dodgers for 25 million a year, I guess the team really wants him by overpaying that much. Odds are very good he'll wind up being booed out of that big market town unless he remains a stud well into his 30s. But again, this is not like letting Billy Butler walk. This is Alex Gordon and I would think 15 million a year for 4 years with a team option for fifth year would be very fair. If I am mistaken, if Alex is gonna get 19-30 million a year for those 'good' offensive numbers he produces, then my bad. I mean Alex Gordon??? At what point does the 20 million dollar club not include Alex Gordon?? Alex Gordon should not take $15 million on a 4 year deal. That doesn't make sense. I'd bet he gets $90 million over 5.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 24, 2015 -> 01:26 PM) Neither would Theo. The Cubs would trade Baez for Quintana in a second. Quintana is exactly the type of guy they are looking for. He's 8th in baseball in fWAR for pitchers since 2013. He's basically the same pitcher as the guy they gave $155 million to and he's much younger and locked up long-term. The undervaluing of Jose Quintana on this website day after day astounds me.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 23, 2015 -> 01:56 PM) I'm confused as to why Washington would rather pay $13M to a guy who had a -1.4 WAR last year than $11M to a guy who had a +0.3 WAR last year. I read that they have to get rid of him. Even if it means taking back another bad contract in return.
