I'd be fine with trying to acquire Marcell Ozuna and Martin Prado from Marlins. I'd see what it'd take to get Derek Norris from San Diego as well.

QUOTE (Mike F. @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 12:18 PM) I'm not sold on Anderson or Fulmer honestly. They may be studs in the minors, but who knows what their transition to the big leagues will be like. Rodon is a stud though and I'm glad that he fell to the Sox. I'm just hoping that they can draft/develop a stud position player for once. Not someone like Sanchez or Saladino. A legit star with all the tools. Fulmer and Anderson are good picks though regardless of what you're sold or not sold on.

On ESPN, Jim Bowden is doing a What's Next? piece for all 30 teams. He did the White Sox recently: http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/the-gms-of...icago-white-sox 1. 3rd Base Upgrade: He mentions Ian Desmond in FA. Also mentions Brett Lawrie, Trevor Plouffe, Martin Prado, and Todd Frazier via trade. 2. Upgrade at C: Matt Wieters and Alex Aliva were the FA names. Also mentions Derek Norris, Austin Hedges, Christian Vasquez, and Austin Barnes via trade. 3. Improve Defensively 4. Improve Lineup 5. Listen to offers for Chris Sale 6. Promote Tim Anderson to big leagues (terrible idea) and decline Ramirez's option. Jim Bowden is a boob but I wanted to see what 3B/C he thought would be available.

QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 12:17 PM) Abreu is not arbitration eligible. He opts out, he is a free agent. He Dosent even get a qualifying offer This isn't true. He can take arbitration on the last 3 years of his deal rather than taking the agreed upon salaries. He's with the White Sox for 6 years regardless.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 10:51 AM) How did they not see that before they drafted him? They knew. I think Grasu is an 8 year starter. It just won't be this year. My biggest issue with him is that he's already 24 years old. I loved him at Oregon though. He's already added 10 pounds.

QUOTE (Coach @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 10:30 AM) For all those that think Shuck should definately NOT BE A FULL TIME DH, here are his stats. Although he has not been a full timer, his stats speak volumes about whether he should have been over LaRoche. Especially when the Sox were still in the wild card race and LaRoche could not hit a stationary ball much less a pitched one. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 01:06 PM) and i have gone this route before with other posters. b/c he is has done extremely well in overcoming hurdles, doesn't give him a life long pass on his future dealing. Nobody is giving him any pass. He's good at his job. They have won 3 cups that he's been directly involved in. He remade the team again this offseason. It's absurd. It's not just you.
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 12:46 PM) just b/c i can acknowledge his accomplishment and his good works, i still have my negative opinions on his work. he can't or he seems to me to not gauge contracts or length or value a player. second, i agree with your statement. but you are right about finding talent. Bowman has 3 championships with the Hawks and fans still question him. Ridiculous.

I'm not opposed to the Sox taking a pitcher at #10 if he's the best player on the board but here is some stuff about some of the early favorites on the position players side. Bobby Dalbec 3B Arizona 6'4 215 https://mlbdraftcountdown.wordpress.com/201...bec-3b-arizona/ Chris Okey C Clemson 5'11 195 https://mlbdraftcountdown.wordpress.com/201...okey-c-clemson/ Nick Banks OF Texas A&M 6'0 200 https://mlbdraftcountdown.wordpress.com/201...ks-of-texas-am/ Corey Ray OF Louisville 5'11 185 https://mlbdraftcountdown.wordpress.com/201...-of-louisville/ Blake Rutherford OF Chaminade, HS. QUOTE (Sox Fan In Husker Land @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 01:58 PM) In the seasons where Thompson had more than 135 PA (I used that because that is what he had with the Sox this year, and yes I realize that is a small sample size) he always had a walk rate above 8.8%, except this year at AAA. His walk rate with the Sox was very similar to his walk rate throughout his time in the minors, except this year at AAA. His walk rate may have fell off this year at AAA to an all time low for him, but his K rate had also dropped 4.7% below his previous best in the minors. His improved K rate had also stayed with him in his call up to the Sox. His K rate had been going down every year except 2014. Did he change something in his approach? Did the light bulb go on for him? His career ISO in the minors is .208. His BABIP was also about .300 for his full seasons in the minors. I think it is reasonable to expect him to put up a .235/.305/.405 line next year over a full season. Trayce Thompson stats in leagues he made at least 135 PA's A (19) G 58 BB% 8.9% K% 29.4% ISO .205 BABIP .296 wRC+ 106 A (20) G 136 BB% 10.1% K% 28.8% ISO .216 BABIP .309 wRC+ 114 A+ (21) G 116 BB% 8.8% K% 28.2% ISO .232 BABIP .316 wRC+ 120 AA (22) G 135 BB% 10.2% K% 23.6% ISO .154 BABIP .280 wRC+ 107 AA (23) G 133 BB% 10.9% K% 25.4% ISO .181 BABIP .301 wRC+ 108 AAA (24) G 104 BB% 5.5% K% 18.9% ISO .180 BABIP .295 wRC+ 114 MLB (24) G 44 BB% 9.6% K% 19.3% ISO .238. BABIP .341 wRC+ 144 He talked about how he started to swing earlier in counts to make more contact. His walk rate went down with his K rate because he was seeing fewer pitches per plate appearance.

They need an actual PBP guy though. Those ex-players are all analysts.

I wonder if WLS would hire someone for post-game and let the same person do the home call on tv? I guess that would be tough to do. I wonder if someone like Wayne Randazzo would be ready. He was broadcasting Cougars games and working at The Cell. Now he's the Pre/Post host for Mets in New York.

QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 10:28 AM) Matt Williams fired. The entire staff is gone. Nightengale speculates that it could be Dusty Baker. Sounds like a guy doing a friend a favor. Do you know what would be fun? Ozzie in DC haha

QUOTE (Dunt @ Oct 4, 2015 -> 08:13 PM) I mean, that's great LA talk radio feels that way, but fact is Quintana has been more valuable over the last 3 seasons than Puig (13.4 WAR vs. 10.9). Frazier has 2 years left on his contract and is 3 years older than Quintana. Quintana is the most valuable of the 3. Q for Frazier would be awful. I'm not opposed to trading for Frazier, but Q being involved doesn't make any sense.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 10:31 AM) I wish people would get Heyward out of their minds now, instead of building it up as a real possibility. LOL. Completely agree. Not happening. Think more along the lines of Ben Zobrist and possible trades. -
QUOTE (Mike F. @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 08:36 PM) I'd be content with a 250 K with a 3.10 ERA season for him next year. He has a 2.74 FIP.

The White Sox kind of took a step back on purpose in 2013 and 2014. I would have been fine with a change but I don't really care in all honesty. They need players. You can't purposely "lose" for 2 seasons, try to win in 2015, and then say Robin Ventura has had 3 straight losing seasons. It's a dumb argument. Of course he did. They didn't have the talent to win the last 2 years and knew that from the start. This year is a different story. I just hate season that dumb "he's been bad for 3 years" argument. It's lazy.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 02:19 PM) What players? Short of them signing David Price and trading for Arenado or Puig, there's nothing to see here. This team is awful defensively, their lineup sucks a fat rhinosorous dick. They have one of the 5 best pitchers in baseball. They have another pitcher that has been 8th in fWAR since 2013. They also have another TOR with 6 years of control. They have a good bullpen. They have cornerstone pieces in Abreu/Eaton. There are absolutely holes. They have pitching though and loads of it. I need to see what happens this offseason before I start writing off future seasons. That's just me though.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 02:10 PM) Not trying to start a fight, just defend myself and Ozzie. So the Sox fire Parent with a weekend to go of meaningless games. I guess Hahn quit on the team by removing somebody before all games were played. Uh ... this is meaningless just like Ozzie leaving with a week to go meant NOTHING. Both teams sucked beyond belief and it mattered not. I don't know why Robin would want to stay BTW. This team is going to suck again next year. Why does he want to manage bad hitting and defensive players. What's hilarious about this post is that as soon as I read the thread, I knew you would post something comparing the Parent situation to Ozzie. I wish I could have gotten odds.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 09:47 AM) That doesn't at all change my point....... You were complaining about the offense and then lumped Tomlin in though. Haley calls the plays. Mike Tomlin doesn't get on the headset and tell Haley to make sure Bell gets the ball in that scenario. Maybe he should have though.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 02:01 PM) Yup. When they trot out Robin in '16 I won't be watching. So even if they add new players that you like, you won't watch because of who the manager is? I don't believe you.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 01:58 PM) Hopefully this is just the start. Ya gota clean house FO. Entire new coaching staff. This is not happening.

QUOTE (Baron @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 12:43 PM) Well 6.5 WAR guys at 26 dont grow on trees. For sure. They also cost more on the free agent market than the White Sox have ever spent before .
