QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 08:32 AM) Only guy available that I'd really want is Freese. Free agent market is terrible this year (besides Upton, Heyward, Cespedes) besides pitching. I'd take Zobrist for the short-term. I'd see if there's a way to acquire Alex Guerrero from the Dodgers.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 08:36 AM) The award isn't for the 3 best pitchers in the AL though. It's for the 3 pitchers who had the best seasons in 2015. Those are two different arguments. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=...=&players=0 I know that we watched him all year and he had some bad starts. Fangraphs still has him as the 4th best pitcher in all of baseball too though.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 08:01 AM) If anyone votes for him 3rd, I'd be very surprised. Well one of the 3 best pitchers in the AL wouldn't finish in the top 3 in voting then. Which would be dumb. Not that it really matters anyway though. The only knock Sale really has against him is the fewer innings this year.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 07:44 AM) I get that the defense sucks, but tough s***. The award honors the player who had the best season on the field, not the player who should have had the best season. I don't mind looking at FIP, but what actually happened on the field should have a higher bearing on the award. He's not getting the award. It's about him being top 3.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 07:34 AM) Did you actually look at numbers though? Sale's FIP is higher. He's accumulated more WAR as well. Look at the difference in Sale's ERA and FIP. The White Sox defense is horrible. They all have thrown more innings than Sale though.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 23, 2015 -> 03:43 PM) I love Sale as much as the next poster, but there's no way he finishes top three in Cy voting. Did you actually look at numbers though? Sale's FIP is higher. He's accumulated more WAR as well. Look at the difference in Sale's ERA and FIP. The White Sox defense is horrible.

I'd need Urias, Seager, Puig, and Grandal for sure. Dodgers would never do that.

AL 1. Price 2. Sale 3. Keuchel 4. Kluber NL 1. Kershaw 2. Greinke 3. Arrieta

Well, it's that time of year again....2015 edition

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 23, 2015 -> 11:44 AM) Agreed. I see no realistic scenario where that happens. He's going to get like $160+ million. -

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Sep 23, 2015 -> 11:01 AM) Just get in the top 10 and sign Jason Heyward. They aren't doing that. Heyward is a pipe dream. -
How many of last off-seasons "big" moves would the Sox make
Y2Jimmy0 replied to maxjusttyped's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (bjm676 @ Sep 23, 2015 -> 11:09 AM) Probably sign just Robertson and Cabrera. They needed a closer. Badly. I could see why they overspent. Cabrera has done everything they asked of him. They shouldn't regret signing him, I remember we were all excited on here when they got Shark, too. Nobody expected him to turn out like this. Semien and Phegley were expendable. LaRoche. Well, he's another story. This offseason will definitely be interesting, that's for sure. How different would the team have fared with Adam Lind, Miguel Montero, Melky Cabrera, Samardzija, Duke, and Robertson as the additions? The Sox apparently finished 2nd in acquiring Lind and 2nd in acquiring Heyward. They would have given up more prospects but that team would have been a lot better potentially. -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 23, 2015 -> 10:54 AM) Using just WAR, ERA, and FIP. Greinke: ERA 1.65 FIP 2.77 WAR 5.5 Kershaw ERA 2.18 FIP 2.09 WAR 7.8 Arrieta ERA 1.88 FIP 2.44 WAR 6.7 Clayton Kershaw is the best pitcher in baseball. He should also win the CY Young again. Looking at the AL David Price ERA 2.34 FIP 2.76 WAR 6.3 Chris Sale ERA 3.47 FIP 2.67 WAR 6.0 Dallas Keuchel ERA 2.51 FIP 2.89 WAR 5.8 Chris Archer ERA 2.92 FIP 2.74 WAR 5.4 David Price is probably going to win the AL Cy Young. Even with his struggles at times, Sale should be right in the mix though. God the Sox defense is atrocious.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 23, 2015 -> 10:38 AM) I am sorry...it has to be one of the Dodgers. Greinke is putting up an unheard of ERA. Advanced stats be damned, he is minimizing actual runs at an insane clip. If you want to go more sabr, then Kershaw is the beast he always is. Hands down it should be one of those two. Using just WAR, ERA, and FIP. Greinke: ERA 1.65 FIP 2.77 WAR 5.5 Kershaw ERA 2.18 FIP 2.09 WAR 7.8 Arrieta ERA 1.88 FIP 2.44 WAR 6.7 Clayton Kershaw is the best pitcher in baseball. He should also win the CY Young again.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Sep 23, 2015 -> 10:12 AM) His splits indicate he isn't much of a platoon option. Saladino should be getting more of the playing time, he is the better player. I'd argue that there is no indication of anything because he only has 400 major league plate appearances.

Saladino isn't a starting 3B option either though. They could start him at SS or use him as a utility guy. Saladino will not be the starting 3B next season if they plan on contending.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 23, 2015 -> 01:01 AM) Hillary is making it too easy for me. So she blasts the Republicans in this clip for not naming any names of women who should appear on the 10 dollar bill. Then TMZ asks Hillary the same fricking question and she won't answer it either. LOL. What a country. What great choices for President again. That whole question during the debate was pointless. Every GOP candidate had a layup too. Nancy Regan. She's sitting right f***ing there and those idiots were talking about their mothers.
-
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 23, 2015 -> 09:54 AM) Why mike olt why Why not? They want to see if they have something. Maybe a platoon option. No reason for him not to play. He probably sucks but he has less than 400 big league plate appearances total.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 04:19 PM) I will say this much. The pending free agent who best fits the White Sox needs right now is a guy that hasn't been talked about at all. That name is Matt Wieters. I wouldn't give up a 1st round pick to sign him though.

If the Sox arent in the top 10, how do you improve this offseason?
Y2Jimmy0 replied to Dunt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 23, 2015 -> 12:15 AM) That's what I wanted to do a month before the trade deadline when it was obvious we had a s***ty team. Shark, Duke, Robertson, Melky and LaRoche. Should have dealt all of them and re-tooled right there. Idiotic to stand pat. I think we could have moved all of them a couple weeks before the trade deadline for a ton of prospects. It doesn't really make sense though. Jerry Reinsdorf is the owner. They are going to win like 77-78 games. That's a 4-5 game improvement over last year and quite frankly, they overachieved with the offense they've had and the bad defense. I don't think it's crazy to think they can patch a couple of spots and win 84-85 games next year with the pitching staff they have. I'd roll with a front 3 of Sale, Q, and Rodon. I'd go with Robertson, Jones, and Montas at the back end of the bullpen. Shark will be gone. Nobody wants LaRoche or Duke. Finding a long-term option at 3B would be great and an upgrade at C with Flowers as the backup would be nice too. They have great young pitching under control and they don't have any crazy bad contracts that will hamper them long-term. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 21, 2015 -> 10:44 PM) I think Melky's a flop cause of his production. Few homers, not enough RBIs. Robertson was OK closer. Shark trade was awful. I'd rather keep Semien and Phegs. They arguably coulda started this year. Phegley was never starting for the Sox -

Sox have tried to sign Samardzija to a long term deal

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 21, 2015 -> 11:57 PM) I just don't think he's very good. Let him walk. Are you saying to let him walk without offering the QO or just don't consider signing him long-term? -

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 21, 2015 -> 12:23 PM) Assume for this poll that there is no other party and that one of these 17 people will be the next President. Where would your vote go? Interested to see how Soxtalk results compare with national polling. Crap, where did the poll go? Kasich.
