  1. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 01:07 AM) We got a 2/3 for one year. 2 of the 4 fringe prospects would be the 3rd and 4th best hitters on this team. But they'd be much worse defensively than the guys currently in those spots. I think the Sox can get something better than Semien in July. IF not, that comp pick is very valuable.
  2. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 19, 2015 -> 11:59 PM) http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2015/06/19/lev..._medium=twitter Levine says Toronto, Houston, and Yankees all on Samardzija I'd hold Samardzija for 3-4 more starts. Looks like he's coming around. Some possible names from teams on the high end: Toronto I'd ask them for Jeff Hoffman because that would be a ridiculous return. Probably wouldn't be possible though. C Max Pentecost 3B Mitch Nay LHP Matt Smoral (Sox liked him around draft time) C Dan Jansen (Low Minors) DH Rowdy Tellez New York Yankees C Gary Sanchez 3B Eric Jagielo C Luis Torrens 3B Miguel Andujar Houston 3B Colin Moran 1B AJ Reed C Max Stassi

  4. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jun 19, 2015 -> 09:26 PM) Who f***ing cares about pitch count? Let the man finish what he started for gods sake. This is a really bad and stupid post. Wow. He threw 125 pitches on Sunday. He's the #1 asset in the organization. And you want to trot him out there for 120+ pitches when the team spent $46 million on a closer?
  5. Not really in my opinion. He's still the best pitcher in the American League. The fact that he doesn't have the wins doesn't really affect that.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 19, 2015 -> 10:10 PM) The problem is any GM who gives up that much young talent and then Sale pitches for only a year or two before going down with an elbow or shoulder injury is risking his career...ending up like the Vikings' GM who gave up the future by dealing for Herschel Walker. They won't get Bryant, so it would have to start Russell/Schwarber and go from there...Soler and Baez would be risky third pieces for Hahn. But, based on how Castro has looked this year, you can't do it if you're Epstein. You go after Cueto and maybe Price if the Tigers fall back even more. Sale could miss a season with Tommy John and his deal would still be a bargain
  7. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 19, 2015 -> 04:26 PM) Heard a guy say they would trade Vogelbach for Shark this morning. Ya, ok. I'd take something like Vogelbach and Alcantara/Villanueva probably for Shark.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 19, 2015 -> 01:28 PM) I think everything I said in that sentence was true. While what you also say is true, I would like to stress again that "a sandwich pick and the money to go with" is really a crappy value to get back for a player and would just be another sad comment on this season. It's not a crappy value. It allows you a ton of draft flexibility in a supposed good draft. They need something good in return for Samardzija to deal him.
  9. This is good stuff today. http://www.dailyherald.com/article/2015061...orts/150618856/
  10. Wow I'm actually with Dick Allen on this I think. And I think the White Sox kind of agree. They are going to trade some guys and possibly fire Todd Steverson. That will probably be it though.
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 19, 2015 -> 10:46 AM) Taj is out for 4 months. Get better Taj. Would be great if this surgery would strengthen his ankles. Bummer he won't be able to have a normal off-season though. I think they are going to trade Taj actually. This might make that more difficult.
  12. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 19, 2015 -> 08:13 AM) with ref to stan and the salary cap i will explain later he was, at the time employed, to the best of my recollection, to another team. it was the like good ole boy connections. tallon did nothing to have been gotten rid off. however this past season, stan show his smarts in addressing that need in trading for additional talent. now this off season with the state of fa's on the team, now he will be able to put indelible mark on the history of this team, at least for me. This is not true. Dale Tallon is a great evaluator of talent and was the reason why Toews/Kane were picked. He made some really good personnel moves and really has an eye for talent. That's not all that goes into the job though. He totally f***ed the salary cap because he doesn't know how to manage it. They wouldn't have won these 3 cups without Dale Tallon's prior acquisitions. They wouldn't have won them without Bowman either though. He's proven himself in my opinion.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 18, 2015 -> 11:52 PM) of leadership in that clubhouse..." (You have to watch the video, which is 5-6 minutes long) This is the same exact debate we've been having over the last week (and last couple of years) about Ventura. It encapsulates pretty much all of the different viewpoints, with Kaplan playing "Devil's Advocate" with the rest of the panel at Sports Talk Live. Did Rick Hahn oversell this team being competitive? Should we blame him for being too optimistic? Lots of words bandied about like "focus" and "complacency." Gardenhire's name is proffered as a possible solution in terms of cleaning things up on the field of play. http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/white-...reak-hits-seven Ron Gardenhire would be a terrible hire. I don't want that crusty old bastard.
  14. I'd still be pretty surprised if he's not the manager next year as well. They want him to be the manager it seems. Bruce Levine said today that from the intel he's gathered, "they're going to fire the players". Should be interesting at least.
  15. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 19, 2015 -> 07:05 AM) Plus the #9 pick if Fulmer says NO to Sox below-slot offer. They won't be offering him below slot and there's no reason for him to not sign. He'll sign.
  16. Ben Badler has a new piece today with White Sox info for July 2nd. Does anyone have a Baseball America account?
  17. Hahn said that trade talk was picking up……..
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 18, 2015 -> 11:51 AM) On this one I think the prevalence of advanced stats will help. You could make a case to me that trading Quintana, holding Sale, developing Rodon and the kid we just drafted, and clearing as much payroll as we can could set us up for 2017 even though I'd be skeptical given our typical development and trade history. But personally, I'm beyond that, I think they're set up for a lost decade barring a major overhaul in everything, from players to organization to decision making. On a side note, how miserable was Monday/Tuesday? PNC Park is my favorite in baseball but man that had to suck.
  19. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 18, 2015 -> 09:56 AM) that is funny, someone on soxtalk is obsessed with that idea,. I'm not obsessed with that idea, man. My point was that Conor Gillaspie blows and I stand by that.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 18, 2015 -> 11:37 AM) After the 2015 f*** up...if I were the GM no I wouldn't because of all the reasons you guys just gave but it would be the correct move for the franchise. And that's a big problem too. Okay I get what you mean. Realistically, if they could get the kind of haul that he's "worth", I'm with you. That's just not going to happen. This is why I disagree with you on the Quintana thing too. He's a very underrated pitcher and I just don't think they'd acquire what he's worth. Maybe I'm wrong though.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 18, 2015 -> 11:29 AM) Unfortunately, "4 years under .500 out of 5 and no prospect for improvement the next few years" is also the kind of thing that should get a GM fired already. Balta, would you trade Sale?
  22. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 18, 2015 -> 07:30 AM) What did he say now? I forgot what it said but I saw it Monday. It was a jab at Cheryl Scott being intimately "involved" with the team. She was one of Patrick Sharp's rumored conquests (along with the wife of Clint Reif). Bernstein has run with those stories like they are fact though this entire time. Really weird.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 17, 2015 -> 10:28 PM) Very surprised at all the Jackson love. He had MJ, folks. You know how hard it is to win the Stanley Cup? I hate when people just assume that Phil rolled out the balls. He managed personalities and convinced Michael to trust his teammates. The man won 11 championships. He had great players but all of them had tremendous egos. It's not some easy job.
  24. Everyone on the Score was talking about trading SAle today. They are all so misinformed.. There are a handful of teams that could even get it done and those teams wouldn't give what would be required. Such a dumb topic. It'd be like the biggest haul in history with the contract he has.
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 17, 2015 -> 11:55 AM) This would be absolutely terrible for the bulls FWIW, Butler taking a short term deal and being a fully unrestricted FA where the Bulls can't even match his offersheets (even though they could offer him a year more than other teams IIRC). That would be a terrible result of not offering him extra money last offseason. The Bulls will offer him a max Qualifying Offer. That means that he'll probably sign a 3 year $50 million deal with a team. Then the Bulls will match. He'll become unrestricted in the summer of 2018. Bulls will own hide Bird Rights at that time. Butler will be a Bull next year.
