QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 10:45 AM) Sox have not said a word about Benitendi, so that's who I predict. He doesn't really have "loud" tools though. The Sox just don't really value guys like Benintendi. Especially in the 1st round.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 11:10 AM) hmmm Sale, Q, Rodon, Jose A, and i am sure someone will look to Avi, I responded to this and didn't even notice the green font. haha my bad. They aren't rebuilding though, man. They will try to compete next year. They won't be trading any of those guys. I would be stunned if they traded Melky, LaRoche, Duke, or Robertson as well. Just doesn't really make sense. They want to compete; not rebuild.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 10:40 AM) re the trade idea, yeah i am for that, if the offer is really good. i really hate to bring this up, but if the sox doesn't improve by what date should the sox start looking to trade the players on the major league team??? There's nobody on the major league team to trade. Ramirez and Samardzija would be about it.

After giving up what they gave up there are only 3 options with Shark. 1. Sign him to an extension. 2. Give him a QO, let him walk, and collect a 2016 1st rounder. 3. Trade him at the deadline and acquire young talent. There is no scenario in which it is acceptable to not offer a QO and let him leave without getting anything.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 09:07 AM) I am hoping the Sox get Fulmer, and if not, Jay. If both those guys are gone, one of the SS. I know Stephenson is the flavor of the week, but HS catchers are really hard to project. I know the organization can use catching, every single organization can, but they usually take longer to develop, especially a HS guy. I'd rather they spend 4th-10th rounders on a college guy. If the guy turns into Ron Karkovice, it's a win, and I don't think you want to spend the 8th pick on that. The Sox did pick Kurt Brown 5th in 1985. Barry Bonds was the next selection. And Stephenson is exactly the type of hitter that the White Sox never develop. Big power with a lot of swing and miss potential in his game.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 07:10 PM) Here's a potential problem. What if Samardzija accepts the qualifying offer? No chance. He's going to be what 31 years old? He'll at least get like 5 years and 80 million or so even though he's shooting for a lot more $$ than that.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 07:14 PM) The package would have to be better than a first round comp pick. What that is, I don't know. If he doesn't turn it around, I don't think that package is out there. I think people greatly underestimate the value of draft flexibility with multiple 1st rounders.
-
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 07:05 PM) The new market inefficiency! Haha I bet he still goes in the comp round at the latest. IT just depends on how much $$ he wants. I think he's a reliever though.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 06:10 PM) On espnu they said it was collective decision by ncaa, field crew, and both teams Doesn't really matter, was just looking forward to watching tonight Hopefully they don't have to play tomorrow night during the draft. Jay, Fulmer, Swanson, and Buehler will all go tomorrow night.
-
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 05:45 PM) Boston for whichever young catcher, Swihart or Vazquez they are willing to give up. Can't see them offering that much. Give me the comp pick instead.
-
Samardzija has not been good enough. I don't think the Sox pay him unless it's something like 5/$100 and I wouldn't even really want to pay that from what I've seen. I think the 2016 compensation pick is an extremely important thing because of the draft flexibility that it allows. That being said, if the Sox are out of this thing they may look to deal Shark. What are some packages that would be realistic to take instead of the comp pick? Give me some teams and return packages.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 01:45 PM) Sox would be over .500 if they still had AJ. He's worse defensively though.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 01:39 PM) I would guess the main 4 starters and Stephenson, Swanson, Happ and Benintendi. They probably assume Rodgers will be gone Why though? Wouldn't they just have their top 8 players in general?
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 01:18 PM) exactly!!! why would a GM announce to the baseball world what would be their real intentions be via a sports forum. Well they never would. It's actually not that big of a deal in the baseball draft though because teams can't trade.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 12:54 PM) SoxNet.net @SoxNet now Doug Lauman on the pregame show just said the @whitesox have their eye on four pitchers and four position players for the @MLBDraft at #8. I would imagine it's Swanson, Bregman, Rodgers, Stephenson, Jay, Tate, Fulmer, and Harris.
-
I really hope they get this one in today so that I can see Rodon pitch on Tuesday night.
-
Illinois is starting Tyler Jay vs Vanderbilt tonight. People are talking about it being a good move because they are desperate. If Jay is good enough to start today, in a potential season-ending game, then he should have been starting all season.
-
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 6, 2015 -> 12:36 PM) Sox prefer Tate to Fulmer. Agreed but I don't think it'll get to that point. Sox are likely to get a stab at one of their top three Tate/Jay and Fulmer. If they end up with Tate/Jay/Fulmer I think they'll be happy. What will be interesting is if two of them are on the board. Best case scenario for White Sox would be Tyler Stephenson going #1. Even if Swanson goes #1 though, if Houston goes Bregman then Colorado could go with Brendan Rodgers. Allard is a wildcard to Minnesota at 6 and hopefully Boston takes Benindenti.

KW: play is "embarassing" but team can still win ALC

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 6, 2015 -> 12:16 PM) Just to stress again, the White Sox's payroll this year is $115 million. If they don't sign Shark but do keep Alexei, their payroll rises to ~$120-125 million depending on arb guys like Noesi. The money spent on Samardzija this season is already committed next year because most of our contracts grow. In order for there to be extra payroll next year, they're going to need a revenue stream boost. Do you not think that they are going to offer Samardzija something like 5 years $100 million? They traded for him so that they can keep him long-term. I don't think an offer like that gets it done but if they are willing to extend to sign Shark, why wouldn't they spend that same money on someone or something else? -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 6, 2015 -> 02:35 PM) Not trying to be a dick, but weren't the Sox just 3 back a few weeks ago? We've actually regressed a bit. No. They were 3 back of the 2nd WC
-
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 6, 2015 -> 01:13 PM) It is not making him a starter. It is playing him and Gordon while they are swinging a good bat. That means anyone hitting over .250. They started last night's game w 6 sub .250 hitters. They aren't going to platoon Melky or LaRoche.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 6, 2015 -> 09:47 AM) You didn't miss much. Pre-draft, they really aren't going to give much. Just theory, best player available, so on. Steve Stone and Bruce Levine have both brought up Tyler Stephenson the last 2 days on the radio. Not sure if they are hearing something or if they just see catching as a need and saw him rumored at #1 and jumped on it.
-
QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jun 6, 2015 -> 11:18 AM) Let Alexei hit #2 against left handed pitchers, and let Shuck hit #2 against right handed pitchers. That would be a good solution to the problem. Who would Shuck be playing instead of against RHP though?

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 5, 2015 -> 11:19 PM) Or it's just more of an argument that this was never going to be a one-year turnaround. And I still don't think it is. If the Sox end up 81-81, it's a huge win, IMO. You get a draft pick for Samardzija, keep everyone else, and you enter the offseason needing to add 4-6 more wins to be a playoff team. And you can use the money you were going to spend on Shark on something else. This is an excellent post.
