  1. They are like 3 games back of the 2nd wildcard. The season is definitely not over.
  2. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 08:21 AM) I wonder how KW is feeling about this team after a 15-2 drubbing Probably similar to how he felt before? Why would 1 bad loss sway any opinions that greatly?
  3. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0602-story.html Hahn still wants to add to the club but has contingencies in place if they continue to flounder.
  4. Swirsky isn't great but the broadcast is much more enjoyable than the Hawk Harrelson Show. If you've noticed, the umpires haven't been out to get the Sox since Hawk left....
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 07:29 AM) There haven't been many top coaches from the college ranks who could succeed equally well in the NBA. Wooden Jr. /Stevens with the Celtics and Larry Brown immediately come to mind. Lon Kruger wins everywhere but in the pros. P.J. Carlesimo had moderate pro success after Seton Hall but is mostly remembered today as the coach Latrell Sprewell choked. For every example like that, there are five or ten Pitinos or Caliparis. http://abc7chicago.com/sports/college-coac...ts-them/762899/ They usually come to awful situations though. Hoiberg, Stevens, and Donovan should all be in the playoffs next year.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 02:10 AM) OK. Here's an outsider's point of view. Why in the world is Hoiberg an upgrade over Thibs? Answer he's not. This is a ridiculous hire. I cannot believe Thibs and Scott Brooks were replaced by Hoiberg and Billy Donovan respectively. LOL hires. Hoiberg will be gone after 3 seasons with pressure to can him after two. Donovan may not even last a full season. Billy Donovan is a much better basketball coach than Scott Brooks. It's not a ridiculous hire at all either. The Thibs/Management thing was over. It's well documented. Read about it before declaring yourself an outsider and then spewing ridiculous thoughts.
  7. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 11:29 AM) I think this is a very realistic scenario given that Fulmer is on the board at #8. While I don't have any indubitable evidence to think this is the case, I think there is a possibility the Sox were using Fulmer as a pawn so their scent wouldn't be on Jay. Jay has just happened to pitch so well he might not get out of the top five. Correct me if I am wrong but I think it's just Keith Law, arguably the biggest the MLB Draft pundit, saying the Sox are all over Fulmer and they would take him if he's there. No one else was reporting that but a lot of mocks were really just going off of Law's seemingly certain prediction. That was about two weeks ago and what I was hearing at the time, on good merit in this case, was the Sox absolutely love Jay and he was the guy they covet at #8. Since then, Law has really cooled his tone on the potential Sox-Fulmer marriage and now acknowledges the Sox love Jay. It's conjecture, but I think there's a possibility that Law was manipulated by the Sox. I don't know if you should betting on Fulmer holding up as a starter for 6 years. There is very few scouts who are warm to him being a starter at all. I know. A lot of the same people that thought Chris Sale was destined for the bullpen too. I have questions about Fulmer long-term. I have questions about whether Tyler Jay will hold up as well though too. I don't think there's sure-fire option in this class. That could be why Jon Harris is the most realistic possibility. I just hate going safe there at #8 with a college starter that projects as a #3. I'd take one of the HS arms instead (Ashe Russell) of settling at 8. They won't do that though.
  8. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 10:43 AM) No Shark in your future plans? Adding Shark to that mix would be nice, but I just don't see him staying. He's going to get so much more $$ on the open market. He'd be nuts not to test free agency.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 10:40 AM) This might be the year to go over. With the crazy outflow of talent that is happening all at once in Cuba, this would be the year. I don't know if it is the US relations changes or what, but it seems like every other day someone is leaving Cuba. I completely agree. The Sox could basically sit out next year and I think the International Draft is on the horizon at some point as well.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 09:39 AM) With Tate, Berrios, Buxton, Sano....you might be talking about the #1 farm system in the game if they all stay healthy. Berrios is probably having the #1 season of all the top pitching prospects so far. You've also got Kohl Stewart/Meyer/May/Burdi on the pitching depth side...and Dee's brother Nick (who's struggling right now) but a huge talent from all the scouting reports last season. The problem's quickly becoming not only the Royals and Tigers, but the Twins might be the best positioned to go on a long run, with Mauer's being the only really big contract on the books. For sure. The Twins are loaded. But if Fulmer falls to the Sox, I'd be content with a rotation of Sale, Quintana, Rodon, and Fulmer for the next 6 years. That stacks up with nearly everyone. Sox don't have near the amount of position players, but would have an outstanding rotation going forward.
  11. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 06:24 PM) I want Fulmer vs Jay in game 1 of the Super Regional so bad, but we all know it will be Duchene. What a treat that game would be. Of course it won't be Jay. They don't use him in the rotation.
  12. Any ideas for Hoiberg's lead assistant (defense)? I was thinking about Lawrence Frank or Kurt Rambis. Any other names?
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 04:54 PM) There's not been a single hint of the Sox going underslot with their first pick. Kiley McDaniel and Keith Law are probably the two best in terms of having inside information on draft strategy, and they've been suggesting nothing but collegiate starting pitching. I think the Sox would be ecstatic with any of Tate, Jay, or Fulmer. I think they'd take Missouri State RHP Jon Harris if they are all gone. Lets pretend that the 3 pitchers are gone. Lets also say that Bregman, Rodgers, and Swanson are gone. I think the Sox would go with Harris over Benintendi, Stephenson, or one of the HS OF's (Tucker, Cameron). What does everyone else think?
  14. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 11:27 AM) since i am an old fart, and i don't have one coming, can i still think it??? i was looking at teams who may need some players / prospects for a rebuild. but the only team i can see who can be a fit is Col. I listed some names last week. Lucroy and Ramirez from Milwaukee Zobrist from Oakland Possibly Prado from Miami
  15. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 11:29 AM) I don't have any issues with the credit card restrictions. Fact is, between the amount of Chicagoans living in Florida and the modern day secondary ticket market, any Blackhawks fan who wants to attend the game, will be able to anyway. The restricting of Hawks jerseys in the club sections? Now that's ridiculous. I'll never understand not wanting to sell your product, regardless of who's buying it.
  16. LOL. Tampa Bay is dumb: http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2015/06/01/ber...cy-is-pathetic/
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 10:23 AM) I didn't answer the question because no question was asked. Sigh. And it isn't my place to say if Theo should be fired, but I would bet if the Cubs lost 90 + 6 years in a row, there would be plenty of calls for his head. And if Hahn or KW lost 90 games plus 6 years in a row, you would be calling for their head. And regarding 2008, last I checked, KW hasn't written a book about how to judge players based off his success that season. But if Dayton Moore can have 6 90+ losing seasons in a row but is still a baseball genius in your mind, maybe you should cool it on all your posts about every White Sox employee needing to be replaced. Look at some of the players he passed on with these high picks. If it was KW doing it or the White Sox, you would be complaining like crazy. Since it is KC, he is doing everything right. How's Christian Colon instead of Chris Sale working out?
  18. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 09:18 AM) nice..... and i will say this, lets do, i am game. i am for playing the hot hand now. I like Avi at 2. I'd put LaRoche in front of Abreu because he draws a ton of walks and hopefully Jose would bat with men on base more often.
  19. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 08:51 AM) for me, i would really think about moving Melky down and switch with Conor and / or Aelexei depending on the pitcher. think about switching Avi and Adam. in stead of using the sabe formula of coaching, go back to the hot bat. I don't think the lineup really matters that much but If I changed it I'd go with: Eaton Avi LaRoche Abreu Melky Ramirez
  20. The latest mock draft on SheridanHoops says that the Bulls are exploring the option of trading Taj and/or Noah. Says the Bulls and Celtics have been the 2 most active teams in trade talks (not with each other). http://www.sheridanhoops.com/2015/05/30/mo...-and-then-what/
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 08:22 AM) Which is what's going on right now with the Indians surging forward, and the Tigers falling back. Minnesota +21, 27-22 EWL (+3) KC +49, 30-18 EWL (-1) Detroit -1, 26-26 EWL (+2) Cleveland +4, 25-25 EWL (-1) CHW -42, 19-30 EWL (+4) Right now, not surprisingly, the Twins and White Sox have the biggest spreads between expected and actual records. Yeah but during the time in which the Sox were "supposed" to be 19-30, the starting pitching has been bad. Isn't it feasible that the starting pitching is awesome for the majority of the season and they outperform the expected record? I think it's a miracle that the Sox are 23-26 with the offense that they've had. I think the offense has to improve slightly and the starting pitching and bullpen is good. I expect this team to finish right around .500 which would be a 7-10 game improvement over last season.
  22. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 07:27 AM) So a AAA player has a great April then goes into a 3 week slump and you call him up??? That may be why he is not even hitting his weight in the majors. Maybe he is even playing hurt which would explain the horrible May he has had. They didn't call him up for his offense though. Johnson was killing the Sox defensively at 2B.
  23. QUOTE (oldsox @ May 31, 2015 -> 07:29 AM) Sox #1 pick in 2016 will be protected. Nah. I don't think they'll finish with one of the 10 worst records. They'll be near .500.
  24. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 29, 2015 -> 07:44 PM) My friend caught the Royals HR today. Her status... "Anyone that is a true Cubs fan knows that if you catch the opposing teams homerun ball, it's an unwritten rule to throw that thing back where it came from! By far one of the coolest, most adrenaline rushing experiences of my life. Wrigley Field & the Chicago Cubs are ❤ ‪#‎chicagocubs‬ ‪#‎wrigleyfield" ‬First comment; "I hope to one day do what you just did!" I just read that people enjoy teams hitting home runs against them so they can be dicks. I'm glad I don't have many of these people in my life..
  25. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 31, 2015 -> 12:10 AM) Why not? I guess you could keep Robertson but he's being wasted this season and we know the shelf life of relievers isn't long. Trade him now while you can get a king's ransom. If they continue to play poorly, they will most likely trade Ramirez and dump Bonifacio on someone. They will weigh whether or not it's better to trade Shark or take the comp pick. I don't really see anyone else getting moved though.
