  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 31, 2015 -> 12:10 AM) Why not? I guess you could keep Robertson but he's being wasted this season and we know the shelf life of relievers isn't long. Trade him now while you can get a king's ransom. Because they want to win in 2016 and they aren't going to turn around and deal guys that they just gave multi-year deals too.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 31, 2015 -> 12:02 AM) And who will play SS and 2b for this playoff contender after you deal Ramirez? Other than Jeff and Alexei, there are no other players to deal and expect anything near major league ready (like Avi or Davidson/Eaton) in return. LaRoche, Robertson, Duke and Bonifacio would just be salary dumps. Beckham might have more value due to his versatility and improved offense this year. They won't be trading Duke, Robertson, or LaRoche.
  3. QUOTE (LDF @ May 30, 2015 -> 03:30 PM) a great analysis esp the bold. nice!!! my take 1.) Arizona - Swanson-ss 2.) Houston - college pitcher (they were just looking for a pitching help) 3.) Colorado - pitcher top avail / rodgers-ss (they need pitching help in the system) 4.) Texas - pitcher 5.) Houston - Tucker 6.) Minnesota - bergman / benintendi (they wouldn't mind a top prep here) 7.) Boston - bergman / pitching 8.) Sox - I think Houston goes with 2 position players. If I had to predict, I'd go with: 1. Arizona-Dansby Swanson SS 2. Houston- Brendan Rodgers SS 3. Colorado- Tyler Jay LHP 4. Texas- Alex Bregman 2B 5. Houston- Daz Cameron CF 6. Minnesota- Dillon Tate RHP 7. Boston- Andrew Benintendi CF 8. Sox-Carson Fulmer RHP
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 30, 2015 -> 11:07 PM) Here's why sports are fun and also fun(ny). So I'm reading a batch of articles. Hoiberg is going to the Bulls (unless everybody is wrong) because it's been his "dream" to coach in the NBA. He's giving up a Final Four team to go to Chicago and ultimately get fired (NBA coaches are hired to be fired in 3-5 years). So in 3-5 years Fred either gets another NBA job as part of the revolving door of NBA coaches flipping from franchise to franchise (can you say Alvin Gentry?) or he returns to college ala Tim Floyd's career. Meanwhile, articles are out there saying Hornacek's dream is to coach in college at his alma mater, which happens to be Iowa State. He has an NBA job and gets along famously with his Suns' GM. The Suns have a history of letting coaches fulfil their contracts. So isn't this a nonsequitir?? Hornacek should be happy staying in Phoenix and trying to win a title (though he should dump those Morris twins or at least split them up ASAP). Meanwhile Fred should be happy in Ames winning a national title this season at ISU and being a hero in Ames forever while making a ton of money and having a bit less stress on his fixed-up heart. Both coaches should stay put. No they shouldn't. They should do what they want to do. Hoiberg was always seen as an NBA guy. He wants to coach in the NBA. And college basketball blows.
  5. I'm pretty sure the Sox won't be giving up a 2016 1st rounder to sign a QO Free Agent. Scratch big impact bat with QO attached off of the list.
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 30, 2015 -> 01:32 PM) Why not? He can't be worse than Garcia. Yeah I think he actually could be.
  7. QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 30, 2015 -> 11:31 AM) Peavy was also considered an injury risk and was 2 years older and was clearly on the decline plane of his career. When Samardzija had 1.5 years left on his contract, his price was much more than Peavy with 1.5 years left on his contract. Plus, Samardzija comes with a comp pick. Peavy didn't Thus an estimate that Samardzija with 1/2 years = Peavy with 1.5 years. If anything, more. Samardzija doesn't come with a comp pick anymore. That's why the White Sox have to weigh whether the return is better than receiving a comp pick. It's a valuable pick. It's not just getting another pick in the late 20's and 30's. It's getting more money allocated into your draft pool thus gaining a lot of flexibility in 2016 draft. It would take a pretty nice package to get Samardzija from the Sox.
  8. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 30, 2015 -> 12:40 PM) Yeah I don't get why he's not dhing... If you DH Garcia, then Shuck has to play vs a LHP. They aren't going to put Bonifacio in RF.
  9. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ May 30, 2015 -> 09:36 AM) Heck yeah. Hayden Fry is immortal in Iowa because he had some great football teams. Heck, Ben Jacobson is Northern Iowa has probably entered Saint-hood for sticking with the Panthers this long and having a decent to good team every few years. I guess with Hoiberg I feel, if he just wants a coaching job in the NBA, they'll always been available year in and year out, but if he truly wants to coach the Bulls, this may be his only chance, at least for a while. In Iowa, sure. The rest of the world could care less though. Hoiberg is an NBA guy. He wants to coach in the best league in the world with and against the best player in the world. Do you know why he'd leave Ames, Iowa? Because the Chicago Bulls called and you can't turn it down. When Stevens was asked about why he left Butler, he said, "Because it's the Boston Celtics". Not really sure why this is hard to understand.
  10. Lots of really bad opinions in this thread today.
  11. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 29, 2015 -> 03:06 PM) Prince Shembo charged with animal cruelty. (He killed his girlfriend's dog). Will be interesting to see how the NFL responds to this. Between Atlanta's prvious animal cruelty experience and Shembo's past, will be interesting how they respond as well. Edit: Just saw the details. Disgusting. Where is HickoryHuskers to defend that walking piece of filth? You aren't allowed to talk about the rape case. I was shouted down last year for that….
  12. QUOTE (SCCWS @ May 29, 2015 -> 09:00 AM) Not sure how Chicago media is reacting since I live in New England. But national media is trashing Jerry on the Bulls fiasco. My gut says he won't touch Robin now until the off-season when the Bulls attention has died down. My gut says that he's not going to touch Robin at all anyway.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 29, 2015 -> 08:54 AM) The opposite. The White Sox are all good "company men" who don't ever rock the boat...or question the longstanding way of doing things. I'd take a dysfunctional frontt office of ten overachievers/tireless workers who don't always get along with co-workers and push their players to their limits than...well, whatever we have now. Sort of like a country club atmosphere. If the Bulls made the same mistakes the White Sox make on a constant basis...would Thibs passively sit there and let it go? He played Hinrich and Noah together for long stretches of a playoff series. Yes I think he'd passively let poor play go unnoticed.
  14. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ May 29, 2015 -> 08:57 AM) Fulmer is the No. 1 target, and I'd be OK with Jay. But if they're both gone, please no Stephenson. I get that people want a catcher, but a high school hitter of any kind makes me wary with this organization. I actually think Jay is the #1 target.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 29, 2015 -> 08:30 AM) Gar said the reports they were trying to get something for Thibs was total BS and that they made the decision to fire him either yesterday or Wednesday. That just is a lie, and like in court, how are you supposed to believe anything else he says? JR's response was damning, and I think unnecessary. Even if they absolutely hate Thibs, keep it classy. As far as I can tell, GarPax haven't exactly accomplished much as a duo. The fact is, the talent was short. Losing to LeBron and the Heat wasn't embarrassing and unexpected. Losing to LeBron this year with a hobbled Noah, a Rose that isn't the same as he was every night, isn't unexpected. They have every right to fire Thibs. But to try to drag him through the mud is proposterus. The fact is, they gave him, this horrible coach, an extension, and still owe him $9 million, so who really is the fool? I kind of feel like the Van Gundy stuff is the reason for the Reinsdorf letter. I read that as, "When management offers a perspective, they aren't violating your rights". Also, "Don't give those private conversations to Jeff Van Gundy to spew on live television". Now, does that mean Bulls management is right? Absolutely not. But I think that's why Reinsdorf did what he did.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 29, 2015 -> 08:14 AM) Realistically, management has also generated guys like Jimmy Butler and company. They seem to be doing something right. Some would have you believe that the only reason why Butler is good is because of Thibs.......
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 29, 2015 -> 08:08 AM) Good Woj article on the background of the firing, and the statement from JR really seems out of line now: When Hoiberg is hired, are they still going to stick to the charade that the decision was a tough one that was just recently made? http://sports.yahoo.com/news/why-bulls-man...-053816326.html Meh. What Reinsdorf said is true though. People want transparency from owners but then don't like it when they get it. Of course the decision wasn't made when they said it was. What are they supposed to say? We were going to fire Tom no matter what? This has been in motion for the last year and a half. Anyone that was blindsided by this hasn't been paying attention. I'm not saying you, Dick, I just mean in general. Lots of stunned people yesterday and it doesn't really make any sense.
  18. QUOTE (beautox @ May 29, 2015 -> 01:27 AM) I don't think the sox pass on Jay or Fulmer if they're there, If both are gone i'm not opposed to Tyler Stephensen or Happ. If they take Fulmer, I think he's in the White Sox bullpen to end the season.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 29, 2015 -> 07:56 AM) I saw a mock that had Sam Dekker picked by the Bulls. I think that guy is getting better and better. I don't think Dekker falls that far
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 28, 2015 -> 10:43 PM) Yes, but Sanchez is not a big leaguer. He just isn't. At least Beckham is a big leaguer. It's an embarrassment to have to play somebody at a position incapable of getting a hit. True, Gillaspie is lousy, but at least he proved last year he could get a hit every four at bats or so. If we settle into Gillaspie/Boni, Lexi, Beckham, Abreu, at least on paper that's an average to slightly below average foursome. Put Sanchez in there and it's abysmal. Defense matters though. If it doesn't then Micah Johnson would be up.
  21. QUOTE (LDF @ May 29, 2015 -> 02:36 AM) if i remember correctly, they were interested as well. I think Ortiz is headed to the Phillies. The captions on MLB.com give a synopsis.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 28, 2015 -> 10:19 PM) Guys, we cannot play a second baseman incapable of hitting the damn ball. It's a joke, really. Beckham at least is a fricking big league hitter and is not a sieve with the glove. Play him! This is a last place team, at least play a major leaguer at 2B. Beckham has to play 3B because they don't have anyone there either. Sanchez is fine for now. No offensive production out of 2B is definitely not what is killing this team.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 28, 2015 -> 10:11 AM) What I don't understand is I thought Beck was the 26th guy. Why wouldn't they just call Webb up and make a corresponding move instead of calling him the 26th guy as well? Is it still certain Beck is starting game 2? My guess is that they will be short-handed in game 1. Start Beck in game 2. Then send Beck and Webb to Charlotte and call up a position player to replace whichever guy goes on the DL.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 28, 2015 -> 02:14 AM) What was the story about Forman buying Hoiberg's Chicago home?...guess their ties go way back in time. Indeed they do. This piece sums some of it up: http://www.blogabull.com/2015/3/27/8299073...didate-to-coach
