I think Gonzalez might be underslot because Teel supposedly is. Even if it’s like $4.2 million, I’m guessing Taylor is in $1-$1.3 range and Keeler is like 800-900K. Wolkow should be around $1.2 million as well. That’s pretty close to their pool.
Hahn probably had some influence at pick #15 but GM's arent making these picks anymore. The scouting report is taking the guys who they think are best in each spot who also fit into the bonus pool. White Sox should have some extra $$ to play with.
I was just on the call with Shirley. He thinks they got two first rounders tonight. 4 pitch mix, loud stuff, was excellent on the cape and this fall. Said they wouldn't have had a shot at him had he pitched this season.
Thanks…..at least now we’ll know who’s making the final call on decisions haha. I think it’s a college hitter for all the reasons we’ve discussed but man he loves prep guys.
Shirley met the media on Friday. I analyzed his quotes for FutureSox and SoxMachine here: https://soxmachine.com/2023/07/mike-shirley-white-sox-prepared-for-all-possibilities-in-mlb-draft/
I disagree very much at 15. I think he's better than he showed this season. It's a no brainer if he gets to 15 when you're likely taking an underwhelming college hitter anyway. There are plenty of prep bats to take. I'd much rather gamble on Dollander than a 2nd rate college hitter.
I get that. There’s just no other way to get a pitcher of that caliber if you’re PGH though. With that being said, I love the Draft Kings odds on Clark and Langford currently….
This draft is fascinating at the top. Anything could happen and Pirates could spiral it multiple ways. I feel like Crews at #1 is unlikely at this point though.
I don’t think this is fair. It’s just a profile that the organization hasn’t shown the ability to get the most out of. I’ll root for the kid but I wouldn’t bet on him succeeding. Not here.
