He's full of s%*#. He's much better off getting traded and not having a QO attached to him.

Here's my draft preview for SoxMachine and FutureSox for those interested: https://soxmachine.com/2023/07/2023-mlb-draft-preview-chicago-white-sox/

I’m conflicted a bit. I want Mike Shirley making the pick because he’s the best scout in the room. There are a few players I really wouldn’t be happy with though such as Morales and Bradfield.
-
He's pitching today. Nothing to worry about.
-
Definitely bottom 5. I think the Sox overall are a bottom 3 org in baseball with Colorado and Kansas City
-
Lots of rumors that Gonzalez may go #5 to Minnesota
-
It was two days. They just kept everyone in rotation instead of slotting him in sooner essentially.
-
Schultz was supposed to start on Saturday. He woke up with a stomach bug and was scratched. He didn't feel well enough to go on Sunday either. He's scheduled to make his start on either Saturday or Sunday this weekend.

I'd be really surprised if the White Sox drafted Waldrep
-
Not great so far. Schultz looks awesome and Tanner McDougal is promising. Thompson is decent. Kelley has struggled and Dalquist looks like a bust.
-
I think Whitman ends up going in the top 25 and I’m expecting White Sox to take prep pitching in round 2 at this point.
-
I'm not a fan of Morales but I'd be thrilled with any of Houck, Miller or Nimmala
-
Do people not like him?

Kiley McDaniel has always been pretty solid on the Sox and linked them to Crochet and Kelley in 2021 and had them on Montgomery as well. The Sox have been all over the high school bats. They could opt for a college hitter instead though to go underslot. Dollander and Meyer could be options too. It's going to depend on a lot of factors.

What is our organizational offensive philosophy?

They “talk” about controlling the strike zone but everything is based on swinging. I think that’s the core problem. They focus more on swinging at good pitches than not swinging at bad ones. It hasn’t worked. The Orioles and others teach swing decisions. For instance, on a 2-0 count, if a hitter in the minors swings at an outside slider and hits a single, the Orioles would call that a negative swing decision. I’m not so sure the White Sox would. Way too results oriented. -
You could argue that the later draft has benefitted from the players who are being picked. Everyone else hates it though. Scouting departments are already working on next year's draft due to the calendar as you know. It's just not necessary to have this thing in July

Athletic fired Fegan in Jun23, now hired with Sox Machine
Y2Jimmy0 replied to ThirdGen's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It’s totally true. When is the last time a local guy broke something on Sox (that isn’t doing this as a hobby as a blogger)? When they trade Lucas Giolito, it’ll be a national guy with the story because it’s basically how pro sports works. -
That’s fair. I have no confidence that the White Sox org will maximize Morales. He has chase issues and doesn’t control the strike zone. They won’t fix those issues.

There’s just zero reason to take a college corner. If Houck and Nimmala are off the board, I’d much rather go Jacob Gonzalez or Matt Shaw than one of the college corners. If you’re willing to take a corner, take Aidan Miller. This isn’t that hard. Here’s how I see it right now: the consensus top five will be gone. Let’s also say that Kyle Teel, Enrique Bradfield, Noble Meyer, Rhett Lowder and Chase Dollander are also off the board. That leaves one of these five players for the White Sox: Colin Houck, Arjun Nimmala, Jacob Gonzalez, Matt Shaw and Aidan Miller. One of them should be the pick.
