  1. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 10:46 AM) Yes...it's nice Jimmy Butler worked out because otherwise we only have snell and teague to point to (kind of unfair since Snell actually played a lot last year). Butler and Mirotic were taken in the same draft. Really good picks. Bulls have a chance to do it again because they will probably have 2 1st rounders next year as well.
  2. Take it up with Jonah Keri on twitter. He answered some of my questions yesterday.
  3. Mayo and Callis predicted the top 10 for the 2015 draft today. Interesting read. I don't love the direction either of them went for the White Sox though. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/103053582/ca...015-draft-picks Here's their top 50 as well: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/prospects/watch/y2015/#list=draft
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 10:24 AM) Seems like they are still hitting him up per the response I got from my guy, so they aren't giving up on the Vest. He does have a show cause until the end of 2016. Rock, do you think Kill ends up at Nebraska?
  5. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 10:31 AM) and hoping Rondon will be on next years! Rodon. But yes.
  6. Jonah Keri's Trade Value Column is out on grantland.com. It's a really great piece. Chris Sale, Jose Quintana, and Jose Abreu are all very good for the record, haha. http://grantland.com/features/2014-mlb-tra...ankings-part-1/ http://grantland.com/features/2014-mlb-tra...ankings-part-2/
  7. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 3, 2014 -> 03:01 PM) Merkin has extra time to write this winter, since he doesn't have a bowl game to go to. ND fan making fun of Michigan seems petty
  8. If Derrick Rose or Cutler hurt themselves falling at a concert......OMG
  9. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 3, 2014 -> 10:49 AM) They can go ahead and pay him 23 mil a year for 6 years. Be my guest. I think it will be 6 years and $150 million.
  10. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 3, 2014 -> 09:59 AM) How do you know that was a bad deal for Donaldson. Beane and company is pretty good at seeing something in players and making something of them. They generally always have good pitching. I saw some where that the pitcher graveman they got should slide right into the rotation next year. If you look at his stats he went from A ball to A+, AA, AAA and the majors last year. The ss prospect was pretty good and Brett Lawrie has had a very high ceiling but has been hurt. Beane is banking on getting him off the turf from Toronto and thinking that should keep him healthy and contributing. It's a bad deal because they traded 4 years of a 5 WAR 3B for 2 back end starters, a 19 year old bat first 2B, and Brett Lawrie. They could have gotten way more than that. Donaldson is a stud. If Beane really wanted Tim Anderson like everyone thinks, Donaldson is a guy that you'd consider trading him for.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 3, 2014 -> 09:22 AM) There's no reason for the A's to trade Samardzija if they're not getting a high level talent back. A team in competition this year should be willing to give up a top prospect in exchange for a season of a pitcher who put up 4 WAR last year. There's no reason for Beane to accept less than a high level talent. Certainly not as high as what he gave up to get Samardzija, but still a very high level guy. Of course, there was no reason for him to give up Donaldson for the weak haul he got, so maybe the White Sox could get a steal here and maybe that's why they were in this conversation in the first place, but "assuming Billy Beane doesn't make another silly move" seems like a reasonable standard from my POV. Yeah I get what you mean. The White Sox won't be getting him if that's the case though. Billy Beane isn't going to get Tim Anderson from the Sox. Are the Red Sox going to give up a top 35 prospect for Samardzija? My guess is no. Beane will either take less than that, trade him at the deadline, or ride out the year and take the comp pick. I think Samardzija goes at the Winter Meetings.
  12. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 3, 2014 -> 09:48 AM) yeah, i bet he doesn't see as Hahn as a shrewd GM and will try to take advantage of him. I think this is totally false. Hahn is very well respected.
  13. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 3, 2014 -> 09:43 AM) Again the reason I believe Donaldson was traded was because he was going to get very expensive in arbitration. Beane wasn't ever going to lock him up so trade him now for prospects and use the money saved to invest back into team. Beane has to make every sent count with their payroll. It's going to be the same in trading samardzija. He gets to skip paying 10 million to him in 2015 and gets younger cost controlled prospects back. He does this all the time if someone is getting close to free agency or going to get expensive in arbitration. Well apparently, Beane and Donaldson didn't get along very well either.
  14. With McElwain all but locked in at Florida, that leaves some open jobs. Here are my predictions: Les Miles to Michigan. Rich Rodriguez to LSU. Jerry Kill to Nebraska. Narduzzi to Minnesota. I think Schiano will end up back in the game as well, just not sure where yet.
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 3, 2014 -> 09:15 AM) Vick also had some game left in him, and a lot of people doubt that Rice can still be the explosive back that he used to be. Absolutely. If Ray Rice were still good, there's not a doubt in my mind that someone would sign him for the stretch run.
  16. We don't even know if Tim Anderson's name has come up in talks with the A's. We have no idea if the price of Samardzija is Tim Anderson. If it is, the Sox won't be getting him. It's pretty simple.
  17. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/12/roya...e-hochevar.html Royals re-signed Hochevar. I wanted the Sox to sign him. Damn.
  18. Is anyone interested in Alexi Ogando from Texas or Everth Cabrera from San Diego? Both non-tendered.

  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 2, 2014 -> 11:03 AM) Daryl Van Schouwen ‏@CST_soxvan 3h3 hours ago The White Sox' 5 arbitration-eligibles figure to be tendered before 11 pm deadline: Flowers, Viciedo, Noesi, Guerra, Nate Jones. They will either tender contracts to have all 5 or trade Viciedo at some point today. No non tenders though.
  23. QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 2, 2014 -> 09:14 AM) Clarification: 1) I did not, and am not, advocating a trade of Anderson for Samardjiza. I was addressing the "untouchable" label some attach to him. 2) There is much more substance to Anderson's defensive short comings than his 31 errors, in just 302 chances. 3) Most scouting reports that I have read indicate that he is a "fringy" defensive SS, with an average arm. Here are some quotes from said scouting reports: From Scouting Book.com: "A good but not standout shortstop, he shows plus range but only a so-so arm, which suggests a move to second base might be coming in the future". From Adam Wells, Bleacher Report: Defense: 45/55 "Fringy range with below-average footwork and instincts; ability to use speed makes up for deficiencies right now; needs to position himself better to get better reads off the bat; average arm strength makes it difficult to throw from the hole; quicker release and repetitions could make him average or better in the big leagues." Arm: 50/50 "Average arm strength; transfer from glove and release are solid, but overall velocity leaves plenty to be desired; chance lack of arm necessitates move to second base or center field, with the latter maximizing his overall skill set; with better positioning, could stay at short in pro ball." Baseball America: "Winston-Salem’s Tim Anderson (White Sox) lacks efficiency in the field, with an .897 fielding percentage and Carolina League-leading total of 31 errors in just 66 games, but he also used electric athleticism and range to record +12 assists in that time. Plus, he continued to rack up assists in 10 games Double-A Birmingham (3.20 A/G)" MLB.com: "Leading up to the 2013 Draft, some scouts projected Anderson more as a center fielder than a shortstop, but the White Sox have no plans to move him off his current position. Anderson has the actions, range and arm to play short, and he has the work ethic to make the necessary refinements". This scouting report is more favorable, regarding his defense, but even then, it suggests that he will need to "make refinements". The emphasis is on the tools, not the skills. Who said that he was untouchable?
