  1. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 10:47 AM) I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with you here. There is not "one" blueprint. There may be "a" blueprint which has worked recently, but that doesn't make it "the" blueprint. The name of the game is to win the World Series. The name of the game is to build sustained success. While I concede that having players like Sale and Quintana signed to the contracts that they are has extreme value, it has little value if the rest of the roster isn't strong enough to leverage that value into sustained success (as another poster also mentioned). No one is going to disagree with you about Sale and Q being incredibly valuable. But their value is limited by the talent of the whole. While we are moving in the right direction, the talent of the whole still remains our problem here. If we could acquire other players to increase the value of the whole beyond what it would reasonably be with Sale or Q, that is something that needs to be explored. If we could bring back other versions of Sale or Q, that is something that needs to be explored. We can sit and drool over the excess value we're getting from guys like Sale and Q until we've worked ourselves into a frenzy, but it doesn't win us anything. I recognize that the odds of replacing the excess value Sale or Q bring by trading them may be unlikely - and that should be factored into the decision to trade them - but you simply cannot tell me that there is no trade of these players that could make sense for us, because it simply is not true. Great post. I agree with this. Sale won't be traded but the reason is because nobody will be willing to give enough to get him. Look at the Dodgers for instance. The White Sox would ask for Puig, Pederson, Seager, and Urias. That's a package that the White Sox would actually have to consider I think. The Dodgers would never give that much though. There are teams that have the bullets to acquire Chris Sale but it would cost so many bullets that it just wouldn't be worth it for the acquiring team.

  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 24, 2014 -> 07:36 PM) There's a whole line item list about items that Tim Dierkes or whatever his name is "broke." Whether that helps make his site more profitable is another question altogether. Is that a selling point with advertisers or potential investors? Maybe. Actually sorting out who really broke a story, who was incorrect or jumped the gun and who's the most consistently reliable/accurate are different matters altogether. Like that Korean SS's posting. One writer breaks it's the Twins. The next, one, the Rangers. Then it turns out the posting hasn't been accepted by the Korean team as of yet. Lots of misinformation/rush to conclusions in the race to be first. That's a bad Korean LHP not the SS mentioned on the site.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 24, 2014 -> 02:57 PM) Don't these signings make it pretty likely Hamels will be in Boston? I believe so. Hanley will be playing LF for Boston. He had a 135 wRC+ last season. Sandoval would be at 3rd in this scenario.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 24, 2014 -> 01:48 AM) http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2014/11/...2GxO/story.html Going by this White Sox offseason (so far), seeing Victorino brought in to be the 3rd outfielder wouldn't be surprising at all. Also, Cespedes and Jackie Bradley, Jr., could be in play as well. They (the White Sox) seem to be in the mode of "patching" holes temporarily while simultaneously waiting for Rodon, Anderson, Danish, Montas and Micah Johnson to make an impact. Personally, I would have Ramirez at 3B/DH with Bogaerts at SS, but that's just me. (If Sandoval signs, Ramirez would have to play LF/DH and rotate with Ortiz). Finally, Will Middlebrooks definitely is going to be on the market as well, although the returns will be nothing like if they traded him in 2012. If they do sign BOTH Sandoval and Ramirez, they almost have to trade Cespedes, who at one point they were planning to offer a $100 million extension. It's also going to be interesting to see if they can add those two big contracts, not get low-balled with offers for Cespedes (who everyone in baseball knows they want to dump) AND add a big ticket free agent pitcher in Lester or Shields. They have the pieces to get Hamels. That makes a ton of sense for them.
  6. Phil Rogers ‏@philgrogers 3m3 minutes ago White Sox likely to finalize Adam LaRoche deal Monday. Stockpiling SS depth, with AAA regular Juan Diaz the latest. Alexei Ramirez in play.
  7. I have advocated for Yasmani Grandal for a long time. He's available. The White Sox should trade for him. http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/..._Mike_Petriello
  8. Buster Olney wrote about the Adam LaRoche deal as well here:http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/buster-olney/post/_/id/8678/white-soxs-climb-boosts-al-central Here is a snippet from the piece. LaRoche raked against RHP last year. And now the White Sox seemed poised to climb, after 13 months of tremendous growth that really kicked off with the signing of Jose Abreu -- which looks as if it could be one of the great value deals in recent baseball history -- and continued this week with the signing of reliever Zach Duke and their Friday agreement with veteran first baseman Adam LaRoche, who crushed right-handed pitching last season, with an .891 OPS, 67 walks and 65 strikeouts in 431 plate appearances.
  9. Jon Morosi @jonmorosi · 1h 1 hour ago Sources: #Rays have made Matt Joyce available on trade market and have had some talks with other clubs. He is comparable to Jay Bruce. Jon Morosi @jonmorosi · 1h 1 hour ago Matt Joyce career OPS+: 118. Jay Bruce career OPS+: 111 . . . Bruce is about 2 years and 8 months younger. Jon Morosi @jonmorosi · 1h 1 hour ago Sabermetric context of Joyce/Bruce comp, h/t @TheFantasyFix: Joyce has higher WAR than Bruce over last 3 years. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=...ayers=9892,3353 … Jon Morosi @jonmorosi · 1h 1 hour ago To be clear, not necessarily arguing for one player over the other. Bruce has hit more HR. But there is a legitimate discussion to be had.
  10. More high praise about Tim Anderson: Comment From Tony G. I'm obsessed with the American League. Who are a few of your favourite prospects to watch in 2015? 12:20 Kiley McDaniel: I think you should contact the producers of My Strange Addiction because you might be able to get on TV because of this. I'll go with White Sox SS Tim Anderson as a fun to watch guy
  11. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 06:29 PM) If the Sox don't land Moncoda, I think that they should go after Bryan Emery, who is a left handed hitting OF from the DR and could'nt come to terms with the Yankees or Padres during July 2nd. http://padrespublic.com/sacrifice-bunt/pad...-sign-the-rest/ Emery signed with the Yankees yesterday.
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 02:22 PM) https://twitter.com/CST_soxvan/status/535528432592257024 Montas, Ravelo, Smith, and Saladino added. Mitchell outrighted to Charlotte. LHP Onelki Garcia claimed from Dodgers. Belisario DFA Here's some video of Garcia: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2019606...nto-2014/page/4 He's a 25 year old LHP. He's Cuban. He was a 3rd round pick in 2012. Live arm with control issues.
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 01:13 PM) Not good most of the time, but when mlb draft happened they were only station discussing. Liked it then. But I mean, 87.7, most people don't even know that's on the dial. Sounded like college radio the few times that I listened. I have a 2008 Kia and my radio dial in the car doesn't go down to 87.7. If it worked in my car I would've listened when 670 was on commercial. Oh well. Lots of guys left gigs to go there too.
  14. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 01:57 PM) And I'll disagree with you. If the Sox are serious about competing in 2015(which I think they are) and if Rodon is one of the 5 best starters on the roster(I think he is) then he should be on the opening day roster. And I know that wont be a popular decision around here but if we're looking to win in 2015 then put the best roster out there, worry about 6 years down the road when it's here. Your viewpoint is totally fine and I understand it. I'm just never going to agree because of the variables involved. There is no below market extension with this guy. In fact, there will not be an extension at market value. The Super II date doesn't really matter but it's very important to get that 7th year of control. 7th year of control is much more important than 5-6 starts with the 2015 White Sox.
  15. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 02:11 PM) If true, I suppose the Sox are look to spread their money out. Perhaps the Sox go after the Guerrero clan? Could mean the Sox already have deals in place so their money is already allocated. Suppose we will find out. I think the Cubs already have a deal in place with Vlad Jr.
  16. Ben Badler's latest doesn't even mention the White Sox as 8 most likely to sign Moncada: http://www.baseballamerica.com/internation...avorites-watch/
  17. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 01:19 PM) Rodon should be a starting pitcher with the Sox the moment that he is one of the five best starting pitchers available, regardless of whether that's April 1, June 1, or September 1. Disagree. When you hire Scott Boras, that thinking goes out the window. Your idea does a disservice to the franchise.
  18. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 12:19 PM) I think it depends on Danks this off season. If the Sox somehow manage to trade Danks and Rodon performs well in ST, then I think he will be the #4-5 starter. If not, he starts in AA or AAA. I don't think there is any way that Rodon starts with the major league club because of service time.
  19. God there are 2 people that think he should be in the bullpen? Those are bad thoughts.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 12:15 PM) If it were up to me, he would start at Birmingham and go from there. I agree with this. I'm pretty sure he'll be starting for the White Sox at some point in June though for sure. Rodon pitching out of the bullpen is a terrible idea.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 08:35 AM) Isn't one of the reasons teams are blowing through their limits is because they all know an International Draft is near? Probably so. There is a large incentive though in doing it DA. If you think the class of talent the following year isn't as good, I think it makes sense to go nuts and then sit out a year. Something I wish the Sox would do.
  22. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 07:57 PM) Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 1m1 minute ago Sources: #Athletics in serious talks with free agent Billy Butler. First reported: @CoverThoseBases. 24. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 06:28 PM) I'm not giving Alexei away. Pay with good prospects or we keep him. He's an all star SS at a good price Urias, Seager, and Pederson will be off-limits for Alexei. The question is basically whether or not they can get a pitching prospect better than Chris Anderson from a different organization. The White Sox really liked Chris Anderson in the draft when they took Tim Anderson. Just a thought.
  25. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 01:51 PM) Yeah, I can go for this. A little steep, but that's the market. Let's make a trend and sign another failed starter who's been great out of the pen (albeit in a small sample size) in Hochevar. I've been with you on this since you first mentioned it. They've liked Hochevar in the past IIRC as well.
