White Sox sign Zach Duke, 3 years, $15 million
Y2Jimmy0 replied to oneofthemikes's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Not sure what everyone is angry about here? It's a slight overpay but it's free agency. If he continues to pitch similarly to how he pitched last year, it's actually a bargain. This hinges on him not regressing but last year he would have lead the White Sox bullpen in K/9 and FIP. (He has a FIP of like 2.80 since becoming a reliever). He would have also been 2nd in BB/9, ERA, and WHIP. It's a huge upgrade. Stop thinking about Zach Duke the failed Pittsburgh starter. -

Anyone think they may have something else to announce later as well? What's the point of waiting to announce it? -

Zach Duke had a really good year last year. Curious to see the $$ but I love it. -
2014-2015 MLB off season player movement and rumors thread
Y2Jimmy0 replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Diamond Club
I'd much rather have Jon Lester on the Cubs than an AL team like the BlueJays. Can't believe others don't feel the same. -
Levine on The Score this morning mentioned that Sox are still talking to Andrew Miller's agent. Expects whatever deal he gets to be in 4 year $35-$40 million range. He also mentioned Montas as a late season bullpen option.

white sox heavily in the left handed relief market
Y2Jimmy0 replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 17, 2014 -> 09:00 AM) I'm not sure what "action" you are looking for, but no one is getting in trouble on Soxtalk because of their posting grammar. I mean have you read a Jason Gage post? Haha my post was poorly written too. I meant "action" as in the White Sox doing something so it's not just hypotheticals anymore. I don't expect anyone here to police grammar. -

Sorry for being snobby but I'm having trouble with all the grammar, punctuation, and capitalization mistakes lately. Some of these posts are flat out tough to read. I hope some action happens soon. -

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 16, 2014 -> 11:32 AM) If Hahn can somehow pull off signing Miller, that would be amazing. The comments underneath are interesting, what about Bastardo from the Phillies. He's an interesting arm to look at too. I don't even need Andrew Miller. I'd be happy with Zach Duke. Real happy. -
Nightcrawler is great. That discussion kind of ended. Did anyone see it?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 15, 2014 -> 07:42 PM) Cubs and Rangers are out unless it goes past June or July 15th, the "reset" date. He could decide to sign with the Cubs and sign after next year's signing period starts.

Kiley McDaniel / Fangraphs Top ChiSox Prospects
Y2Jimmy0 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 14, 2014 -> 12:37 PM) I got a little elaboration out of him during his chat today, regarding Gordita Chrunchela: It wasn't just you. There was a ton in there about the Sox today: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/kiley-mcdan...hs-chat-111414/ Comment From Eminor3rd Many of us White Sox fans are cautiously optimistic about Rangel Ravelo as an underrated guy. We feel like the hit tool is scarce enough that it could carry him even if he doesn’t develop a ton of power. You seem to be a bit lower on him than a lot of us, though. Could you elaborate a bit? 12:19 Kiley McDaniel: Sometimes 1B prospects with average tools end up being good. Most of them don’t. When I don’t have a lot of evidence telling me that they’ll be good, I tend to lean towards them being ordinary, as do most/all scouts. If Ravelo’s wRC+ was 110 instead of 142 (admittedly a big gap), I don’t think he would’ve been on the list. But you can’t rule it out that he hits like that next year…then he’d be pretty far down the list of AAA 1B, with tons of them raking….then you have just another dude. Unfortunately for him, he has to keep proving it. Comment From Gabes You have Spencer Adams listed as a ’4′ Risk, but no mentions of issues with his delivery. Is the high risk just the result of him being a long way from The Show? 12:15 Kiley McDaniel: Yep, skinny high school righty isn’t a group you generally want to count on staying healthy…even when there’s no negative signs specific to the player. Also distance to the big leagues means a lot of stuff can still go wrong. Comment From Nick Do you think Michalczewski can stick at 3b? If not, what are the odds his bat can carry him at 1b? Kiley McDaniel: He’s at least average at 3B and should be able to stick. The White Sox list w/mode details: http://www.fangraphs.com/bl… Comment From Nick How patient do you expect the White Sox to be with Montas as a SP? How patient would you be? 12:27 Kiley McDaniel: I would guess they give him all of next year in AA then pull the plug if he doesn’t show improvement, maybe for the MLB pen in september if they’re in the race Reading your ChiSox write-up, their theme seems to be “Athletic guys, raw tools, no feel to hit” as evidenced by Mitchell, Thompson, Hawkins, etc. Is this the result of just betting on the wrong raw, toolsy dudes or a failure of the development system? Kiley McDaniel: Looking for upside when a while back they didn’t. This is what happens when it sometimes take a little longer Comment From Guest Trea Turner or Tim Anderson? Kiley McDaniel: Anderson – more upside and proven at higher level, but it’s not by a landslide Comment From Nick Do you think the White Sox will ease Rodon into MLB as a RP? Kiley McDaniel: Nope, I would bet in rotation by June 1 -

Kiley McDaniel / Fangraphs Top ChiSox Prospects
Y2Jimmy0 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
I love that Fangraphs hired Kiley McDaniel. He does such a great job. I was actually excited to read his write-ups of other teams' prospects so you could imagine how happy I was today haha. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 08:38 AM) I am just torn on Miller. There's no doubt that he has the stuff, but 2014 was the first time he really harnassed his control. If that wildness comes back, he's just another reliever. Given that someone always overpays for bullpen help, I feel like the price will end up way too high for me to want the Sox to sign him. Yep. Give me Zach Duke and Luke Hochevar for the price of Andrew Miller.

Mets/LAD/NYy interested in Alexei, according to Levine
Y2Jimmy0 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 06:51 PM) Syndergaard/Wheeler are top dollar for Alexei. Harvey won't happen. I sure hope the Mets think Syndergaard had a down year. I'll take those PCL stats and have Syndergaard become our fourth #1/#2 type. It'd be very tough for me to want to trade Alexei but Syndergaard would do it. Again, despite all these rumors this week, I really doubt the Sox trade Alexei. I understand everyone's concern about dealing Ramirez but if they can snag Syndergaard or Wheeler they have to make the trade. While I disagree with the premise of their Cuddyer move, I don't think that Sandy Alderson is an idiot. Cuddyer isn't going to be the only thing the Mets do this offseason. Cuddyer alone just doesn't make any sense. Get them to overpay. -

Victor Martinez Re-signs with Tigers
Y2Jimmy0 replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in The Diamond Club
Here was my issue with VMart: A 4 year deal is crazy because of age. I wouldn't have wanted to give up a high 2nd round pick for a short 2 year deal either. -

Speculation about Mike Shanahan to the Bears has already started. It will cost you roughly $38 million to dump Cutler. I would imagine that he will still be here. Shanahan is a name that we will be hearing more about I'm sure. -
Anyone think the White Sox will have interest in this guy? He should be posted. Obviously he played in the Korean league. He is 27 years old. He hits RH. He's 6'0, 180 pounds. He plays SS/3B. AVG- .360 OBP-.463 SLG-.756 38 HR 107 RBI Here is a snippet from Keith Law who has Kang as his 15th rated Free Agent: Kang seems to have split scouts into two disparate camps: Those who see a power-hitting middle infielder, and those who see an unathletic corner guy whose power won't translate outside of Korea. I'm closer to the former camp, as I see a swing that will generate legit plus power even once he leaves his hitter-friendly home park in the Yangcheon District of Seoul. Kang has a huge leg kick and gets his lead foot down late, which could create timing issues, but the swing is rotational, and I don't think the power surge he has had the past three years is strictly a function of the rising level of offense in the KBO. It's a power swing more than a hitting-for-average swing, which makes it somewhat more important that he stay in the middle infield. He's not as fleet afoot as you would want a shortstop to be, but he has good enough hands and gets good reads off the bat, making up for some deficiencies with a 60 arm. While MLB teams are probably looking for more pure range in their shortstops now, I'd give Kang every chance to show he can handle the position, especially given the scarcity in the middle infield in this free-agent crop. He'll be posted under the old highest-bidder system, rather than the capped system now in place for NPB free agents. I'd guess at a winning bid of $15-20 million. Here is some youtube footage of Kang: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYp6zt627oA

QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 05:03 PM) to tell you the truth, i have high hopes for him. can be #3 sp at best #2. the sox lucked out with him. even if the sox missed out on several players who were targeted at the 2nd rd. but montas should be higher. Adams has front of the rotation upside with his stuff. Many people had Spencer Adams rated in the 20's. Pretend that the Sox were picking #26 overall and took Adams. Don't you think he'd be in the top 5?

As much as I'd love Moncada, it's a pipe dream with Jerry Reinsdorf as the owner of the franchise. I hope I'm wrong.
