  1. QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 17, 2014 -> 07:13 PM) Chicago Bears ‏@ChicagoBears 2h #Bears have signed TE Blake Annen, CB Jordan Sullen & WR Chris Williams to practice squad; still have 1 spot open on active roster. Annen look like the next Fendi-like project. 6'5" TE who runs a 4.41 40. Bears have also brought back CB Demontre Hurst to finalize the 53 man roster.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 17, 2014 -> 12:53 PM) I have only seen that they offered $5 million, not $6.5. They had a handshake deal of $6.5 million at draft time. That's $1.5 million under slot and the reason why they took Aiken. Then they did the physical, found the "small ligament" and decided that they'd only offer $5 million.
  3. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Sep 17, 2014 -> 09:52 AM) The quote from the SI article shows they are speculating and clearly have not seen the medicals so I don't see the point. Everything I've stumbled across only talks about the ligament being undersized and nothing but speculation about the bone itself. Now, if it comes out that the bone is undersized as well then I would be more than willing to pass on Aiken based on Ptatc's response which makes sense with how he explained it. Until more is known, at this point I would still take a chance on Aiken if the price is right. Everyone would. You are talking about a kid that would get upwards of $25-$30 million if he went on the open market right now.
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 17, 2014 -> 08:51 AM) If it is just a few sentences, and you include a link to the full article and it's paywall, I think that is fine. So here is the Law writeup on Danish. It's quite surprising. He wasn't a fan at draft time and it definitely seems like he still has reservations though. Can't really argue with the stuff or production at this point though. I think Danish is a top 100 prospect. http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/keith-law/...cts-of-the-year Tyler Danish | RHP | Chicago White Sox I don't like Danish's delivery at all -- it's a low-slot, slinging delivery that puts a lot of stress on the arm -- but he can get into the mid-90s and generates a lot of sink (thanks to that arm slot), which, despite his youth, made him among the best starters in two full-season leagues. He was the youngest starter in the high-A Carolina League, where he spent most of the season, and still finished in the top 10 in the league in ERA, walking just 23 men in 91 2/3 innings, with 78 strikeouts. The White Sox have had success with pitchers who have unusual deliveries -- one of whom might win a Cy Young Award this year -- so perhaps they'll defy conventional wisdom again with Danish.
  5. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Sep 16, 2014 -> 01:16 PM) http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/keith-law/...op2014prospects Noted Danish critic Keith Law had him in the "other contenders" for Prospect of the Year! I am shocked Mods, am I allowed to post the excerpt about Danish from Keith Law? It's like not even a paragraph.
  6. Bickford is going to The College of Southern Nevada. Eligible for the 2015 draft.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 12, 2014 -> 10:08 AM) 70 power Not an "advanced" hit tool Strong arm Questions about his glove High risk, high reward Oh yeah for sure. I wasn't disagreeing with you. Just came off that way.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 12, 2014 -> 09:54 AM) Reading the description of Tomas it sounded like Dayan Viciedo. Except the fact that Tomas is 5 years older than Viciedo was and he's also 6'4 240 pounds.
  9. I love the idea but it doesn't seem like it will happen. I wish the Sox had a local affiliate. It is a way to steal young fans from the Cubs. When I was a kid there were Sox and Cubs fans in my family. I could've gone either way. The White Sox had Frank Thomas and that made the decision easy for me. If the White Sox start churning out prospects and local kids got to go see a Sox affiliate in Schaumburg or somewhere and identify with the players they could follow them all through the system and into the major leagues.
  10. I would expect that the White Sox would be in on Yasmani Tomas. If they did land him, they would need to find LHH from somewhere else though. LH catcher, LH DH, and hopefully Micah Johnson at 2B eventually balances out the lineup. I hope that they are in on Kenta Maeda and I wouldn't rule out a guy like Brandon McCarthy or Justin Masterson.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 12, 2014 -> 07:47 AM) I would put odds down that the Sox don't sign any of those guys anyway. Good point. I would be shocked if the White Sox gave up a 1st or 2nd Round pick. In my opinion, the White Sox will not be signing a free agent with a QO attached. Rick Hahn knows the value of draft picks and the full bonus pool allotment.
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 5, 2014 -> 09:21 AM) Britt looked good too. Missouri has a 100% hit rate, everyone is awesome. Nobody sucks, certainly nobody threatens to have a bomb in an airport. +++ Gosox, I agree. Their organization, top to bottom, seems to be 100% on the same page. Reminds me of the spurs how everyone when interviewed hits the same points, talks about how much they love it and how they believe. Certainly doesn't hurt that they also feed them PEDs in their water. Lastly - that TD play to Lockette was totally taken from Auburn's playbook. It's scary how well that worked at the NFL level. That play also shouldn't have been a TD because they had an illegal man downfield.
  13. Giancarlo Stanton on the White Sox is a pipe dream. Not sure why it keeps getting discussed, especially in the lose for a draft pick thread.
  14. The White Sox were smart to honor PK on that Saturday Night instead of a 1:00 pm game on Sunday going head to head with the Bears.
  15. B&B and other shows have been touching on the topic of Baez lately. It is way too early to make any sweeping generalizations. However, if Baez ends up being Mark Reynolds, that isn't necessarily a bad thing. He's a 2B. Even if he K's a ton, plays average defense, and hits 30-35 bombs a year with a low average, I'd take that. Many would be disappointed with that but jeez how many 2B hit like that? Not many.
  16. I don't really care if they choose to bring him up before the Super 2 or after but I am quite confident that he will not break camp with the White Sox. It doesn't make any sense. Unless he changes agents, it is imperative that the White Sox get as much control as possible. He will not be signing a below market extension and most likely will not be signing an extension at all. They need to ensure that he doesn't reach free agency until 2022.
  17. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 01:09 PM) Veal and Taylor aren't on the 40-man. They only cleared out Molina, presumably to add Rodon. But the rest, yeah. Expecting those 10. Why wouldn't they want to get a look at Taylor? I'd actually rather see Taylor get OF at-bats than Viciedo at this point.
  18. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 12:24 PM) Weeeell, we're waiting.... I'll take a guess: Rienzo, Surkamp, Bassitt, Carroll, Thompson, Veal, Phegley, Semien, Taylor, Danks, Mitchell, and Rodon.
  19. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 10:58 AM) Last week Scott Merkin proclaimed Johnson the starting 2B for 2015 and it seems people jumped on the wagon. I would rather let the off season and ST determine that before a sports writer. he's not just a sportswriter though. He's basically the mouthpiece for the team. If Merkin is saying it, the White Sox want it said.
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 10:57 AM) There are a lot of players that played nowhere near as well as Sam against 2s and 3s that are on a team (see Cornelius Washington). But look at Austen Lane, who played pretty well, tough at that level. Still think the 'boys should pick him up Cornelius Washington is better than Sam is though. Washington has freak athletic skills and will help the Bears on Special Teams this year. Sam is a slow, undersized 43 DE that does not play Special Teams. He absolutely should be on a practice squad but nobody should be surprised that he isn't on an NFL roster.
  21. QUOTE (Wickel @ Sep 1, 2014 -> 09:10 AM) Turmoil where? How about starting with the pitching staff? How about the lame bullpen? And both are the result of a non-responsive GM (although he was a major improvement over the beleaguered Kenny W). I, for one, thought we missed a golden opportunity in July to bolster the staff before the trade deadline. Our offense was more than holding its own--although Hahn is slowly dismantling it--and a few strategic moves in the pen and maybe adding a viable No. 4 or No. 5 starter would've worked miracles. Hell, getting a strong No. 3 would have sufficed. We were only six or seven games back at the time, with Abreu burning a a path on the diamond. But this happens every year, probably thanks to the big boss Mr. Reinsdork! Umm what?
  22. Does anyone think Lindstrom or any of the other relievers go today as well?
  23. Moises Sierra, Andy Wilkins, and Scott Snodgress are all in the White Sox clubhouse for the game today. Moves are coming.
  24. Dunn's White Sox career was disappointing. He definitely didn't live up to expectations. However, the day that they signed Dunn was an exciting day for me. He was always one of my favorite players and unfortunately it never really worked out here. Hopefully he does well in Oakland. Dunn absolutely had to be moved though. Now we can b**** about the White Sox giving Andy Wilkins' at-bats to Paul Konerko down the stretch.
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 30, 2014 -> 04:35 PM) One thing worth thinking about is that if the Sox did sign another player as well, one of the starting pitchers, then VMart could only cost them their 3rd rounder. They could then potentially go quite a ways under slot in round 1 and still have enough money left to put together a full draft overall. I get what you are saying, Balta. It gets tricky though because then you lose the entire slot amounts for the 2nd and 3rd rounder.
