  1. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 30, 2014 -> 03:59 PM) Right, he DEFINITELY will. He's the perfect 1 year deal. Then we should probably close the thread because I can't see the White Sox giving up even a 2nd rounder to sign a 36 year old DH.
  2. If Victor Martinez gets a Qualifying Offer he will not be a White Sox.
  3. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 10:30 AM) Are they actually going to use Holmes at PR if they don't keep Williams? Holmes returned punts yesterday and looked pretty good. I think so. Holmes for Punts, Spurlock for KR.
  4. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 10:34 AM) I really liked what I saw from Bellamy, but is he even eligible for the Practice Squad? He has played on the 53-man roster for a couple of teams already and been a PS player for parts of two years. I don't know if he is eligible. I believe I read that he is eligible for 1 more season if he clears waivers.
  5. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 10:41 AM) He didn't win last year cause Cabrera had one of the best offensive seasons in the past 10 years and Cabrera won the triple crown the year before. It didn't have much of anything to do with making the playoffs, it had everything to do with Cabrera putting up offensive numbers the voters couldn't turn down. I didn't agree with Cabrera winning it in 2012, but I can't fault the voters for voting for him since he won the Triple Crown. I didn't mind him winning it last year even though Trout out-WAR'd him by quite a bit. Trout still was the better player last year.
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 09:18 AM) Forgot about that part of it, Wilson definitely isn't worth it. My guess is they keep: Marshall, Jeffery, Wilson, Holmes, Morgan, and Spurlock. With 10 practice squad spots they will hope to slide Chris Williams and Josh Bellamy through waivers and keep them both. Easier said than done though.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 09:36 AM) Unless you're willing to bat Gillaspie 3rd, you have to convince Robin it's ok to have back to back lefties. Good luck. What happens is Micah Johnson is the 2nd baseman next year though? Isn't Eaton-Micah your 1-2? They are both LHH. The handedness thing up there makes absolutely no sense.
  8. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 09:23 PM) Well Jordan Lynch, good luck in all of your future endeavours I don't think Jordan Lynch is an NFL player but i do think he's a lock for the Bears practice squad. It's the only explanation for him not playing a ton. They are hoping to pass him through waivers (which shouldn't be a problem) and onto the practice squad. Especially now that there are 10 spots.
  9. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 12:37 AM) Sox gained a game on.... Minnesota and Houston. Sox still sit with the #9 pick. 8 GB of the #1 pick, and 4 GB of the #5 pick. The 5th overall pick in the draft would be nice. Sox would be guaranteed 1 of Bickford, Aiken, Matuella, Cameron, or Kirby. There are some other good HS players too.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 03:21 AM) Well, when you compare Miguel Cabrera 2012-2013 with Jose Abreu, there are a lot of similarities, EXCEPT for the strikeouts Jose has accumulated. Both players are/were not noted for their defensive abilities (Cabrera moving back to 3B with the acquisition of Fielder, then from 3B to 1B again, Jose simply adjusting to MLB), although they actually improved and surpassed quite minimal expectations. Of course, Miguel Cabrera was also playing on ALCD winners those two seasons, while Trout's Angels clubs were also-rans. And Trout should have already won the MVP the last 2 years over Cabrera. Trout is getting it. He's the best player in baseball and I don't think it's close.
  11. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 12:03 PM) Yeah my friend texted me that last night. He is always on the Cubs nuts. Fits him well. Well maybe he was on the "Cubs nuts" because they have awesome offensive prospects. If the White Sox or another team had those guys, I'm sure he would have been on their "nuts" too.
  12. QUOTE (G&T @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 10:46 PM) The only explanation I can think of is that a lot of people associate Holmes, Abbatacola and Goff with B&B and the style of show becomes too similar throughout the day. I wouldn't be shocked if Spiegel didn't want them permanently. This hire sucks though. After Hampton you really shouldn't do this again. Mannelly has been alright. The bottom line is that the Bears moves the meter. Waddle and Jurkovic are both former NFL players that have prominent gigs in local radio. Jarrett Payton also played in the NFL and he has a show too. I bet Mannelly is better than all of those guys. Not that it's that tough to be better than those guys.
  13. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 05:37 AM) Are we even sure they wanted the job? Holmes is busy with that 120 sports, or whatever it is. At least the Game has hired younger up and coming guys and given them a shot instead of mostly retreads. Haha up and coming guys like Kaplan, Haugh, Teinowitz, and Spike?
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 11:00 PM) I'd say that's bad news if you are the Royals. If he's ever going to get hot, it's against them who he owned during his career. Those four games are going to likely be huge for KC probably. If I'm KC I do not cut Chen until after that series. He has to start a game if you are KC. Paul Konerko is bad at baseball. I'm sure the Royals are hoping to see him in all 4 games.
  15. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 05:21 PM) Agreed although I think you and I are in the minority but that's fine with me. Of the three I think Sanchez should be the guy at SS with Marcus at 2B, provided Alexei was traded this winter which I think could very well happen. Davidson seriously needs to just go home and take time off from this brutal season he has had. Just let this horrible season be over for the poor guy already. I would not even call him up in September. Johnson, IMO, is the odd man out because of his defense. I would love to see the Sox try to convert him to a CF or LF and your suggestion of starting him off in AAA would allow time for that to happen. Plus time in ST as well. Nest season is going to be more interesting if Anderson picks up where he left off for Birmingham. He continues that next year he might play his way onto Charlotte's roster. But I shouldn't get too far ahead here. Its awesome that this team at from almost no infield aspects just a few years ago to having four guys worth getting excited over. Not that it means they all will work out but worth some excitement never the less. White Sox can't and won't have Micah Johnson and Adam Eaton in the same outfield.
  16. QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 06:13 AM) for the sox, hs prospects I believe would not be of interest. the reason being is fastest way to the majors. that is the only reason, I see some really talent in this yr hs'er but with the state of the system at this point, I just don't see it. Disagree. I think Rick Hahn and his staff will identify the best player and take that player regardless of how long it may take to get to the majors. They took Courtney Hawkins and Keon Barnum with back to back picks 3 years ago. 2 years ago they took Tim Anderson out of JuCo and their 2nd rder was HS RHP Tyler Danish. This year they took a HS RHP with their 2nd pick in Spencer Adams. If a HS player is the highest rated player on the board in round 1, I think they will take the high schooler.
  17. QUOTE (ron883 @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 07:55 AM) The homerism in this thread is ridiculous lmao. I agree with this completely. Go into the Cubs thread every once in awhile. It's borderline cringeworthy at times. I like what Hahn is doing. Theo and Jed have done a great job as well. I hope both teams set themselves up to be Central Division powerhouses again and baseball becomes relevant in this city again. The Cubs being really good and run properly is a good thing for the White Sox.
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 11:44 AM) Announcement at 3PM. I find that kind of weird, that it isnt being announced during the midday shift. Makes me wonder if Goff is replacing a retiring Boers Goff will be co-hosting Afternoon Drive on the new BleacherReport network on Sirius/XM. That was announced today. The Midday show on 670 will be Matt Spiegel/Patrick Mannelly. Lots of clues. On Thursday during transition they all said goodbye to each other and Spiegel said "See You Soon" to Mannelly. B&B had been dropping clues last week too. Not sure if it will work but I'd be surprised if it's anything other than Spiegs and Mannelly.
  19. Way too early Top 15 Mock. 1. Texas: Michael Matuella RHP Duke 2. Houston: Phil Bickford RHP Cal State Fullerton 3. Colorado: Daz Cameron CF HS (Georgia) 4. Arizona: Brady Aiken LHP JUCO 5. Houston: Brendan Rodgers SS HS (Florida) 6. Minnesota: Nathan Kirby LHP Virginia 7. White Sox: Carson Fulmer RHP Vanderbilt 8. Boston: Riley Farrell RHP TCU 9. Cubs: Justin Hooper LHP HS (California) 10. Philadelphia: Kyle Funkhouser RHP Louisville 11. San Diego: Kyle Tucker OF HS (Florida) 12. Mets: Alex Bregman INF LSU 13. Cincinnati: Ryan Johnson OF HS (Texas) 14. Tampa Bay: Walker Buehler RHP Vanderbilt 15. Miami: Kyle Molnar RHP HS (California) The White Sox could nab a real stud if they could get into the Top 5. Probably won't happen though.
  20. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 10:13 AM) Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal · 38m Sources: #Reds’ Latos, Leake went on revocable waivers yesterday. Both likely to be claimed, neither figures to be traded. Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal · 38m #Reds expected to trade at least one starting pitcher this off-season, when they can negotiate with all teams, not just a claiming club. I mentioned earlier in another thread about the off season and I thought of a trade to acquire Bruce and Marshall. I really think the Reds might need to rebuild and will explore their options to build around some guys. Even though I'd like to acquire a pitcher through free agency (Shields, my #1 target) and acquire a bat through trade, this does give Hahn options. White Sox should put in claims for both. They won't make it out of the NL though and will most likely get pulled back.
  21. I believe the White Sox would currently have the #9 pick in the draft. Another top 10 pick would do wonders for the organization.
  22. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 01:28 PM) Rather him go the Sale route, but if it happens it happens Wait, why would you want him in the bullpen next year? That doesn't make any sense in my opinion.
  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 09:47 AM) Eh. I don't think those are all that substantial, other then teams are going to be impacted by how much they can truly scout guys. At the end of the day, money talks and the top teams can still offer it and aren't scared about the current rules in place for those who beyond the spending limits. It hurts the Cubs and teams with Academies. At the Cubs Dominican Academy, they used to be able to have 14 and 15 years olds there. They'd get a headstart on the process of signing guys like that.
  24. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 11:42 AM) Well the kid sure has earned it. So it's realistic to think that Spencer Adams will finish next year at Winston Salem right?
  25. I think that the new Co-Host will be Patrick Mannelly. Not sure if that makes sense when it's not football season but just a hunch.
