  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 19, 2014 -> 02:04 PM) The White Sox are not being listed as a finalist http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-he...eal-coming-soon Sahadev Sharma from BP said on twitter that he's hearing that bidding is upwards of $55 million with Boston and Detroit battling for him.
  2. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Aug 19, 2014 -> 06:16 AM) He will easily find work next year if he wants to play. At a minimum he could be the LH half of a DH platoon. Or, as someone pointed out in another thread, there are several teams getting no production out of their DH positions, and Dunn would be a nice upgrade for them. The only part of your post that makes sense is saying that the Sox don't like paying players to play with another team. That might be the only reason Dunn hasn't been traded. I'm sure there was interest from some teams, but obviously there wasn't a good enough deal proposed. That part isn't true either. There is a long list of guys that Reinsdorf has paid to go away. Some even this year: Scott Downs, Jeff Keppinger, Carlos Boozer, Eddie Robinson, and countless others. This is just not true but for some reason a large segment of this city and fan base think it is.
  3. A HOF without Manny Ramirez is a bad HOF.
  4. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 16, 2014 -> 11:41 PM) Parents. ..teach your kids to be lefties Adam Dunn is not Left Handed though. He just bats LH.
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 14, 2014 -> 01:30 PM) Really re: Fales? I don't think there will be much hand wringing there. By the time fales is dropped another player on a nother team will be cut for this guy that there will be limited tape of. I doubt he would get picked up. Fales will be on the 53. He will not make it to the practice squad. The Bears will keep 3 QB's on the roster.
  6. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Aug 13, 2014 -> 09:23 PM) So Dorial Green-Beckham might be eligible at OU this year. That is f***ing disgusting. I hope he blows out both knees. DGB will also be a 1st round pick next year. Jeremy Hill was a 2nd round pick this past year. Nobody should be surprised. Prince Shembo was a 4th rounder and featured prominently on last night's Hard Knocks. The Bears drafted Ka"Deem Carey. The NFL doesn't care about domestic violence.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 13, 2014 -> 10:31 PM) Subtract Robin, and add back Addison, and we are 30 games better. I think we'd be undefeated actually. Stop selling the team short.
  8. Dan Hayes ‏@CSNHayes 5m Jose Abreu has gone 56 plate appearances w/o a HR (July 29). Over that span he has a .319/.429/.404 slash w/ four 2Bs, three RBIs.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 12, 2014 -> 09:19 AM) Except all of these explanations don't matter one bit in the court of public opinion, which formed pretty instantly in the 24 hours after they heard about the incident or saw the footage...it's going to be quite difficult to change anyone's opinion...either way. Surprisingly, most people that I've talked to agree with me that the kid shouldn't have been on the track and that Stewart isn't culpable. Maybe I just don't associate with idiots.
  10. QUOTE (striker @ Aug 12, 2014 -> 11:49 AM) Acquiring a player that only has value at DH or 1B doesn't make much sense to me. I'd much rather see someone that can play 3B/1B/DH (Gillaspie/Davidson) or CA/DH/1B (Victor Martinez) or OF/DH. That provides your team with much more depth and flexibility. Disagree. Power is at a premium. The White Sox cannot get outslugged at US Cellular Field. He could hit 35 homers from the left side of the plate. He's also only 27. The downside is that Scott Boras is Alvarez's agent.
  11. I created this thread about Alvarez. I'd love him as the primary DH next year and he could spell Abreu at 1B from time to time. I'd never trade Quintana for him though. Not a chance. Hopefully they could match up another way.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 12, 2014 -> 12:06 AM) Now why would the Pirates want to do that? Just to save money as Alvarez gets more expensive? Do they have anyone to replace him? Once again, with the premium on power...especially from non-traditional (the last 5 years, and that's starting more and more to include 3B) powers positions, you'd have to be bowled away to give up a player in his prime with that kind of power. I can see if he was in the last year of arbitration and they couldn't agree to a long-term deal, but they haven't reached that point with him yet as far as I know. Scot Gregor speculated about him. I put it in the Alvarez thread in trade winds.
  13. http://www.dailyherald.com/article/2014081..._medium=twitter Scot Gregor speculates that Pedro Alvarez was the White Sox July target.
  14. Royals acquired OF Josh Willingham from Minnesota. Didn't see it posted anywhere.
  15. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Aug 11, 2014 -> 04:51 PM) No, I will not give you a break. He has shown anger and retaliation on the track before. Of course people would think he would be more likely to be do something out of anger than Jimmie Johnson, whom I assume is not a hot head, based on your use of him as the other extreme. Tony Stewart is kind of an asshole and has had altercations so you think that means that he purposely tried to run over a person? Do you have any idea how stupid that sounds?
  16. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Aug 11, 2014 -> 04:30 PM) My first instinct would be to drive low on the track where it's flat and not near the guy yelling coming towards my car. Right but you can't prove that he had enough time to do that. He's worried about driving and not seeing what that idiot was doing. You have been assuming an awful lot in this thread.
  17. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Aug 11, 2014 -> 01:02 AM) Ah, so he just blindly slammed on the gas then. Even smarter. If he would have hit the breaks on the dirt he probably would have still hit him. My first instinct would be to accelerate through as well. Get off the f***ing track.
  18. I agree with Steve. It's Natural Selection. Anybody stupid enough to walk out on the track probably would have found another way to die before too long.
  19. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 11, 2014 -> 04:20 PM) Why is Tony Stewart still racing on dirt tracks, that is my question in all of this. I know little about auto racing but what is the difference in that and Kane playing hockey in a church league? He's still racing on dirt tracks because he likes it and owns teams I believe. He can if he wants to. He doesn't have a wife or kids and that's how he chooses to spend his time.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 11, 2014 -> 03:40 PM) Treat your players with respect. He still gets the loudest cheers at USCF. It is good at least the "casual" fan appreciates him. Call me a meathead fan, but his overall body of work, and this one AB should be enough for White Sox fans to let him go out like he wants to go out Treat your players with respect? Who is disrespecting him? I respect him. I just don't need to see him on my television. The majority of the fan base doesn't respect Dunn. He's one of "our" players.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 10, 2014 -> 10:01 PM) Not a flame on Robin. I'm convinced with the extension and his low-key demeanor, he's just what the Sox players and front office want and will be our skipper for many many years to come. No sense worrying about something I can't change. But I was wondering after talking to an Orioles fan who was GUSHING about Buck Showalter. Tell the truth ... with Buck, would we be a playoff team this year? Is Buck that good? Robin is learning on the job and a player's manager obviously. If Buck was our skipper, would the Sox be rolling right now?? Just wondered if he's THAT GOOD and Robin more average to middle of the road? This Oriole fan I know was insistent Buck is the man. No. A manager doesn't turn a bad baseball team into a playoff team.
  22. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 10, 2014 -> 06:13 PM) Daryl Van Schouwen ‏@CST_soxvan 2m Surkamp optioned. I would imagine that Lindstrom may be coming back but that leaves no LHP in the bullpen. Colleen Kane ‏@ChiTribKane 3m White Sox option Eric Surkamp to AAA Charlotte to make room for Matt Lindstrom's return Tuesday. Sox will go without lefty in pen.
  23. Daryl Van Schouwen ‏@CST_soxvan 2m Surkamp optioned. I would imagine that Lindstrom may be coming back but that leaves no LHP in the bullpen.
  24. QUOTE (BaconOnAStick @ Aug 10, 2014 -> 05:11 PM) Noesi, Alexei and Gillaspie all matter quite a bit. I would also say John Danks and his $14.5m salary matters (for different reasons). Why is this entire board so blinded by youth and cost control? If a guys not in his first couple years in the league or signed to ludicrously undervalued contracts they just don't matter? Give me a break. Okay great thanks for clarifying. Noesi, Ramirez, and Gillaspie aren't part of the problem either. Go ahead and include them. I'm not sold that any of them are part of the core of the next great White Sox team though.
  25. QUOTE (peavy44 @ Aug 10, 2014 -> 03:58 PM) No way I'd make that deal in a second if they the Angels paid the salary.
