Abbatacola and Rozner both criticize Ventura
Y2Jimmy0 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 10, 2014 -> 01:56 PM) The defense is a huge problem moving forward. That and the bullpen. The future does not look bright right now as the team currently stands - current players and minor leaguers. Lot of work to be done by Hahn to get this team out of the division cellar. The only guys that matter on this team are Sale, Quintana, Eaton, Abreu, Garcia, and some young bullpen guys. The core 5 have all been pretty good. The White Sox are bad because they have too many bad players. Those guys will not be around. The system is much improved and at the moment looks to be pretty well stocked with promising young starting pitching. This is also Chicago and the team has a ton of payroll flexibility to go along with another potential top 10 draft pick. I would argue that the future looks incredibly bright. The brightest it has looked in some time. -
John Danks to the Angels for Hector Santiago.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 10, 2014 -> 01:49 PM) Wow, tough grader. Bad for 2.5 years? Are you counting this year? This year he's not being given a fair chance. He's actually still a decent player in my book. He's still the best at scooping throws. Until the last 20 or so at bats was around .250. I won't go on my diatribe about Mr. 44 RBI Adam Dunn, but Paul Konerko is the LEAST of the Sox problems the past several years IMO. I can't understand why Sox fans aren't showing him total love like Yankee fans with Jeter. This guy won us a world series. Let me ask you. What do you think the odds are of the Sox ever winning another one in your lifetime? I'd say the odds are about 50-1. Jerry isn't going to win another one. It will be a matter of who gets the team and if it's Jerry's relative, the odds remain at best 50-1 in your lifetime IMO. If it's somebody like Cuban with money money money the odds will improve. Thank u Paul Konerko! I have no reply to this because I will get suspended and I enjoy this site quite a bit

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 9, 2014 -> 08:46 PM) To me Rodon is a given. It's just nice to have Montas, Danish, Adams, and even Beck and Bassitt behind him. If just two of those guys figure it out (or EJ rediscovers...everything) then there are your two righties to compliment Sale, Quintana and Rodon. Don't sleep on Luis Martinez either.

6 up and 6 down for Luis Martinez in Great Falls.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Aug 9, 2014 -> 04:20 PM) Are people not understanding that our starting CF just went on the DL so we need someone to play CF who isn't Garcia or De Aza? The answer is Jordan Danks.. If it was De Aza or Viciedo who went down, we probably would have seen Taylor I think people understand. I also understand that the White Sox are a bad baseball team. Without Eaton they are worse. Just play De Aza in CF. It doesn't really matter. Playing De Aza and Leury in CF also gives the team a much better chance at a top 10 pick.

QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Aug 9, 2014 -> 03:31 PM) Michael Taylor is like 30 now. Rather see Sierra continue to get at bats. Danks is fine as late inning replacement for Tank. I think Taylor is 28. He was also once a top prospect and is playing pretty well at Charlotte. They also traded an actual prospect for him. Thought he'd get a look.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 9, 2014 -> 03:29 PM) Insult aside, talk about Dunn vs lefties please. I truly think he of the whopping 44 RBI is on his farewell tour too Dunn is bad against LHP. Here's my point though: Dunn is better against LHP than PK is against RHP. Konerko has 4 homers vs LHP all year. If you let Dunn hit against LHP all season, he'd have a lower batting average for sure but he'd definitely have more than 4 home runs. Konerko is offering nothing. Unless he is hitting for power he's useless because he's horrible on the bases.

It's about that time of the year again...
Y2Jimmy0 replied to ChiliIrishHammock24's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I've always wanted a top ten pick again. There are really only 5 guys that matter on the current roster. Sale and Quintana are already locked up for years. Eaton is back on the DL. Abreu is a stud and locked up for six years and Garcia is in Charlotte. Nobody else on the current roster matters. Most will not be back other than some of the young bullpen guys. Losing more won't affect the future at all because the guys that are responsible for the losing suck and won't be around anyway. Those of you that want Hahn to sign a free agent that may have a QO should be rooting for losses. I don't think Hahn will give up his 2nd rounder to sign a QO free agent but he definitely won't give up his 1st rounder to sign someone. -
QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Aug 9, 2014 -> 03:17 PM) Really thought Michael Taylor would be the next outfielder up, not sure the point of dealing away Jake Sanchez if not. I could deal with De Aza in CF if we could see what we had in Taylor. Completely agree. Don't really understand the need to see Jordan Danks ever again.

QUOTE (Vance Law @ Aug 9, 2014 -> 01:15 PM) In fact, I believe it's at 41 if you include Avisail. Someone needs to go in order to activate him from the 60 man within the next week and a half. Candidates? Paul Konerko

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 9, 2014 -> 12:06 PM) Up until the most recent fizz, the team was a good bullpen away from being right there for the wild card. That is false.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 9, 2014 -> 01:14 PM) Not to hijack the thread, but this is Dunn's farewell tour, too. I notice in the Wilkins thread, a lot of people still think some team is going to acquire Dunn for the stretch run. Looking at his splits and his stats, he also looks like a guy, just like Paulie, who is finished and I dispel any thought he'll be joining a contender. Adam can't hit a lefty just like Paulie can't hit a righty and like Paulie, he can't run either. I think Dunn will retire after this season. In 169 plate appearances, Paul Konerko has 7 walks and 5 homers. He has an OPS of .654 and an ops+ of 82. In 386 plate appearances, Adam Dunn has 61 walks and 17 homers. He has an ops of .768 and an ops+ of 115. Greg, stop embarrassing yourself and close the computer.

FutureSox.com @FutureSox 1m Roster moves: OF Adam Engel promoted to @WSDashBaseball, OF Chevy Clarke promoted to @Intimidators from @gfvoyagers. I would imagine that Jacob May is heading to Birmingham as well. He was pulled yesterday mid game and this move puts Hawkins, Engel, and Coats in the WS OF.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 9, 2014 -> 11:10 AM) I know little about Andy Wilkins, but I have zero interest in seeing him take major league at bats. As long as he doesn't take away at bats from Abreu, which he hasn't, I have no problem with Konerko seeing a lot of playing time in September. Why though? It doesn't make any sense. Do you enjoy seeing guys who are a shell of what they once were flailing at pitches and grounding out weakly to the SS?

2014-2015 NFL Football thread
Y2Jimmy0 replied to southsider2k5's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 08:28 PM) Agree with half. 2 preseason but stick with 16 regular. Didn't know we picked up Zach Miller. That will never happen because the owners will lose a home game if so. Also, that's not the Zach Miller you are thinking of. He's on Seattle still. -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 9, 2014 -> 09:23 AM) Lots of jealousy/envy in this thread Haha that's how I feel every time I read this thread. The White Sox would trade any prospect in the system other than Rodon for Baez. Not even a question.
-
So I am going to be the bad guy here. I hate that if I decide to go to games in September, Paul Konerko might be playing. I was adamantly against PK coming back this year and I've been proven right on that. He's terrible. I'd much rather Dunn be in the lineup, even if a LHP is throwing. At least Dunn might hit a HR. Also, even if Dunn is gone there are other guys much more deserving of the plate appearances. Andy Wilkins, Viciedo, Michael Taylor, and Avi Garcia should be getting the at-bats in September. For as good of a player as Paul Konerko has been in his White Sox career, I was never one to go to the games just because he was playing. Frank Thomas? Absolutely. Not for Konerko though. At least it's football season.
-
I love the people that say that if the Sox had a better bullpen they'd be contending. It's not just the bullpen. 2/5 of the starting rotation is comprised of Scott Carroll and Hector Noesi. Alejandro De Aza, Gordon Beckham, and Dayan Viciedo have gotten significant at bats. Paul Konerko is on the f***ing team. Those are other reasons why this team isn't very good. What more should Rick have done for the bullpen? This thread is madness.
-
I'd actually like to see Michael Taylor with the big league club as well.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 11:29 PM) Adams now with a 48/2 strikeout to walk ratio Haha Adams has 49 K and 3 BB in 34.2 innings.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 01:27 PM) Obviously things are a little bit better, but let's see the last six weeks play out. I kind of disagree. 1B-Yes you are right. We have a star. 3B-Maybe. Unfortunately because of Gillaspie's defense, the verdict is still out. He has improved hitting wise. Still not a lot of RBIs. CF - Yes he's good, but LF and RF are still question marks. Farm system - I thought all our outfield candidates were busts. People have been blasting Semien as being a bust as far as being a future starter. What down there is so great besides Rodon? Is Micah very good or not? Most importantly - Pitching. Sale and Q are the only ultra reliable starters. Rodon is the next ace type hopefully. And the defense is projected as remaining lousy with A. Garcia coming back and Tank still out leftfielder with a sieve at third base. Who replaces Lexi? My point is, if the Sox continue to tank and finish about 15 below .500 is the optimism still there? I think Fathom's recent post is more accurate about having 5-6 very good players and the rest below average. FutureSox just released a great Top 25 list that can be found if you go to the main page of this site. It does require reading though.

FutureSox Top 25 Prospects List - Midseason
Y2Jimmy0 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 7, 2014 -> 05:43 PM) Pretty good rankings right down the line -- except for one guy. Davidson. I just don't understand why he is ranked so high after the year he had, like it doesn't count. I can see somewhere in the bottom half of the top 25, but not #7. I was waiting for the Davidson post by oldsox all day. Never disappoints. Yawn. -
FutureSox Top 25 Prospects List - Midseason

QUOTE (southside hitman @ Aug 7, 2014 -> 03:42 PM) Props to you Wite this is a solid list. I just think you are crazy for making Rondon a top ten prospect when his ceiling is Brendan Ryan. I think his floor is Brendan Ryan. -
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Aug 7, 2014 -> 01:11 PM) Any tweets on his velocity? His FB has consistently been 92-96 I think. 80 slider. He's the goods. But we knew that already. A big thank you to the Astros and Marlins.
