QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 04:39 PM) Yeah, Hahn's job is to figure out where the sweetspot lies. As for Lackey, he'll be a tough get I think...the Red Sox hold an option on him next year for the league minimum. Reports on twitter though that Lackey will definitely be moved because he asked to be traded. Only making $500,000 next year.

U-God @SBN_UGod · 2m The Yankees are potentially interested in Viciedo AND Danks? What's your game, Cashman?
-
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 03:07 PM) Probably not much of a chance they'd make him a qualifying offer anyway. Masterson will be a true free agent without compensation attached now. He's a guy that the White Sox could realistically sign without giving up a draft pick.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 03:20 PM) If the Marlins want to send up this year's competitive Balance pick and a B prospect I imagine they'd get a nice amount of salary relief in return. Not sure why they'd do that but hey it's the Marlins. How about Danks and $$ for Competitive Balance Pick and Jacob Turner? I'd be ecstatic.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 02:34 PM) If the Yankess arent in play for Danks why do they keep calling? What would the holdup be, Rock? Prospect package or $$?

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 11:04 AM) http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/07/top-...2015-draft.html Okay. I stand corrected. I didn't see this. I was actually going off of Tim Dierkes's original report from the day that Aiken didn't sign. MLB did something about it and rightfully so. Sorry guys.

When is Chris Sale pitching again?

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 08:22 AM) It will be 11 due to the Astros incompetence. It is normally the top 10 that are protected. If a team does not make a qualifying offer, the free agent is not subject to a first round pick. This is not true. Why do people keep saying this? It's still the top 10 only. I've said this like 5 times on this site already. A couple years back, the Mets couldn't sign Bourn for the same reason. It's the top 10 picks even though the Astros have 2 of them.

Sox willing to deal Beckham in "right deal now"
Y2Jimmy0 replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Peter Gammons @pgammo 1m SF, A';s, teams needing 2B sifting through Valbuena, Cabrera, Hill, Prado, Beckham... -
QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 11:36 PM) Only if we get a protected pick right? Yeah if they aren't in the top 10, I don't think they'll be signing a protected free agent. Just doesn't make any sense.

I think some of you guys have Rondon way too low. If the dude hits like .220 he's a lock for the major leagues with that defense.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 10:28 AM) If everything clicks for Barnum you have a Ryan Howard in his prime type of player. If everything clicks for Ravelo you have Billy Butler. These are prospects lists that are all based on projectability. Ravelo's got a better shot at making the majors but Barnum has better shot at being an all-star in my view. It is a gold mine if Barnum learns better pitch recognition and fixes the hole in his swing, skills that can be learned through repetition. While Ravelo is only 10 months older, he has almost 1000 more PA's than Barnum does (1603-674). I think a better comp for Barnum is former WhiteSox prospect Chris Carter.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 10:31 AM) Would a trade of Danks for prospects be a sign the team does not plan on winning again next year? I'd say yes that's what it means. You'd be totally weakening an already pathetic staff. Not true at all. It means they are trading Danks for what they perceive as value. Sox can sign someone to match Danks' numbers for a lot cheaper.

The Cubs management isn't penciling all those guys into spots. The fans are. Cubs will keep some and trade some. Hopefully for their sake they keep the right ones. They have enough of them though that some will hit and be star players.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 09:51 AM) I would agree with that. When you are measuring upside though Barnum has a ton of upside and Ravelos is pretty limited. The MLB.com article says that the Sox have given Barnums power an 80 grade on the 80 point system. In my mind Ravelo's closest ML comp right now would be Gaby Sanchez. EDIT: Barnum is by far one of the biggest boom or bust guys in the system, if he hits you have a gold mine. Ravelo just doesn't have that upside, Ravelo does have a much better chance of reaching the majors though his ceiling right now would seem to be a bat off the bench. Could Ravelo be similar to a RH Nick Johnson type offensively?

QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jul 27, 2014 -> 08:53 PM) Here is the link.: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/cws/new-dr...p;vkey=news_cws And the list (bottom line is they always favor athletes -- guys who can run -- over baseball players -- guys who can hit): 1. Rodon 2. Anderson. 3. Montas 4. Johnson 5. Hawkins 6. Adams. 7. Danish 8. Davidson 9. Michalczewski 10. Sanchez 11. Beck 12. May 13. Thompson (not in Ravelo's class as a hitter) 14. Engel 15. Barnum 16. Lopez 17. Zapata 18. Ortiz 19. Mitchell 20. Smith I think Rondon should be on this list also. From everyone I talked to including Nathaniel Stoltz and others; his defense is so good that if he stays above the Mendoza Line he will be a for sure big leaguer.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 27, 2014 -> 07:05 PM) Boston got a top 75 prospect for Peavy and his FIP is worse than Danks.....Contractually we're talking about 2 differently players though...If they can't get anything good for him it's because of the contract and not because of how "awful" he is....And if that's the case, I wouldn't trade him. Ehh. Escobar is like a #4 or #5 starter.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 01:19 PM) You said it yourself man, they hate him. Do your really want to be the guy trying to change public opinion with OPS talk at this point? You literally have to watch EVERY game to see Dunn's value by adding up walks. Most fans turn on a game or go to a game and more than likely see Dunn do absolutely nothing. I'd say I get to watch about 3/4 of the games, which is arguably more than most fans, and even I feel like he is rarely in the middle of something interesting. I feel like if we don't trade him then the Sox will honor the contract. I'm all for a trade of Dunn and a Paulie-led charge to the playoffs The opinions of stupid people don't matter to me though. The people booing Dunn and cheering the ghost of Paul Konerko fit in that category as far as I'm concerned.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 10:55 AM) I am sure that is part of what happened. The reality is that all of that should have stayed behind closed doors. After that, if you are willing to bid more, just give him what you agreed to. Don't wait until the last minute to try to pressure him into a discount. Either that, or stick to your minimum offer if you are really sure that the medicals are accurate. Close wanted to make it public though. He represents Aiken and Nix. He had the leverage.
-
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 11:30 AM) Yes. The Sox fanbase will applaud the end of Dunn no matter how it goes down. Like you, I say just pull the plug ASAP if at all possible. Haha the same people booing Dunn are out there cheering on the ghost of Paul Konerko.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 11:05 AM) Were also talking about cutting a guy ( Dunn) who isn't producing, hasn't been producing, most fans are not happy with and will likely/ thankfully not be with the Sox next season. The Sox have more to gain by giving Wilkins a look than 2 more months of Dunn. Even of Wilkins shows he's not the real deal at least the Sox will know going into the off season. Who knows, maybe some team like the Pirates come calling looking for a guy like Wilkins and the Sox can grab some kind of young raw pitching talent. I agree its more than likely Wilkins doesn't amount to much in a major league uniform but the Sox stand nothing to lose by cutting their losses with Dunn ( if he isn't traded) and see what Wilkins can do. I am not counting on Wilkins, just willing to give him a shot is all. Dunn has an .804 ops. Sox fans are so f***ing stupid. I was at the game the other night and people can't stand Dunn. Cheering the fact that they get to see Paulie one last time. I wanted to bang my head off the table.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 09:18 PM) Fluke minor league performances happen all of the time. Yeah how about it? Wilkins has some talent because he was a 5th rd pick. He plays 1B and is 6'1. He hits LH which is a plus. His wRC+ at Charlotte is 129 and he has a wOBA of .373. He's been raking lately. I don't take 1st base prospects seriously unless they can absolutely mash. Wilkins also carries a 5% walk rate and will turn 26 in September. He deserves a September look but isn't really a prospect at this point. I hope I'm wrong.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 08:33 PM) PG- Rose SG- Martin SF- Butler PF- Love C- Noah Bench: Gasol, Dunleavy, Brooks, Snell Butler and Noah can carry us defensively and that team ain't losing a game in the east. I bet Bulls could land guys like Marion, Marshon Brooks, or Ray Allen for the minimum as well.
