QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 21, 2014 -> 03:03 PM) My biggest concern with Shields is all the innings he's thrown in his career, as well as his stuff looking pretty mediocre of late. Yeah. Giving up a draft pick to sign a pitcher in the offseason is a stupid idea. The Sox are still in the process of acquiring young, cost-controlled players. Shields or another free agent pitcher that costs you resources besides money will not happen in my opinion.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Jun 21, 2014 -> 10:26 AM) Basketball Insiders @BBallInsiders 12m Sources: Bulls Pursuing Arron Afflalo: The Chicago Bulls are pursuing a trade for Orlando Magic swingman Arron I have no clue if that twitter account is legit or not but it does have 10K followers.....Hopefully this is in addition to Melo and they aren't JUST going after Afflalo. If they could really just get Melo for Boozer and a pick then get Afflalo for Butler and a pick or something along those lines, that'd be incredible. Afflalo is up there with Jimmy defensively but brings much more offense along with him.....Rose-Afflalo-Melo-Taj-Noah would be sick. Afflalo is owed $7.5 million next season. After doing some research, I noticed that they could fit Afflalo and Melo. Orlando would want a 1st rounder for Afflalo. So trade #16 along with the $4 million of non-guaranteed deals in Amundson, Brewer, and Mike James. That gets it into the $5.5 million range. Bulls may have to include Snell or some 2nd round picks o get it done. Should be an interesting next few weeks.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 20, 2014 -> 12:14 PM) Who cares? For that asking price it is worth having a season and a half of David Price plus the first round pick that you will receive when he reaches FA. The market for Price is down given that teams are becoming ultra protective of their prospects. That is the reason that Price was not traded in the offseason, no one would give up what the Rays wanted so they are going to try and increase their leverage at the trade deadline this season. Every start he makes for TB lessens his value as thats one more start his new team is not getting from him. Rick Hahn has said that he's only interested in trading for pieces that fit into the long-term plan. Price doesn't.

I've been a Viciedo supporter on the board for a long time but he just doesn't offer enough offensively to justify him playing in the field and he really doesn't hit enough to be a primary DH. He's just not very good.

Keith Law has an insider piece on Tomas today: http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/keith-law/...aw_YasmaniTomas He says that he may have more power than Abreu does but he isn't as good of a prospect as Puig or Abreu. Says he has below average bat speed, will have to play in an OF corner, and will have a low .obp. Good for 25-30 HR's annually though. He expects that he will get paid more than he should because that market is still the only one without a cap on spending.

QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Jun 19, 2014 -> 03:47 PM) BA reporting Sox are hot on Jorge Alfaro's little brother. He also plays catcher and is one top players this year at that position. Adding Alfaro and Ynoa to the system would be awesome

The White Sox are not getting David Price. He would never re-sign here. You can close this thread.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 08:54 PM) Not if he soesn't sign. Even if he does sign, he prob won't get enough starts to warrant a top 20... He's probably not going to get actual starts. He will have some appearances. He has thrown a ton of innings this year. Why are you still on this kick that he may not sign?

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 06:27 PM) This is sort of encouraging? I had this brief conversation with CJ earlier. CJ Wittmann @CJWittJr 3h I love Tim Anderson's end game profile. Don't love his reactions off the bat at SS but hands are always in sync. Electric. #whitesox Reply 3 Retweet 1 Favorite James Fox @JamesFox917 2h @CJWittJr Do you think it's at 2B though? Brandon Phillips type upside or not that much power? Reply Retweet Favorite Delete CJ Wittmann @CJWittJr 2h @JamesFox917 I do and yes; a Brandon Phillips type profile was my comp for Anderson actually. CJ Wittmann @CJWittJr 2h @JamesFox917 Anderson has plus raw and generates a lot of backspin; ball jumps off of his bat. I think he will have that type of power.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 08:48 PM) Any rotation with Sale, Price, Quintana is ready to contend. Then you toss in Rodon with Montas/Danish/Adams on their way and hope EJ refinds himself. I understand that. The Sox will not be giving Price an 8 year deal in excess of $160 million though. Not a chance.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 04:13 PM) I think the odds are 99% Heat, 1% anywhere else. The only way he leaves is if Miami does absolutely nothing to improve the team. That's the problem though. If Wade is back, Miami is almost screwed. Can't really add more and they need more with his dead ass dragging around.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 08:28 PM) While Beck, Johnson, and Johnson isn't a giant haul, there is no way that David Price would sign long-term. The Sox aren't ready to win. It would be a stupid trade. Also, I'd definitely trade Ramirez. I'd need a nice haul but there is no way that Seattle would give the Sox Tijuan Walker. Not gonna happen. Also, I think the White Sox just drafted the next David Price.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 08:35 AM) Theo truly has everyone brainwashed. A 20 at-bat sample size in short season class A and suddenly the guy is Babe Ruth? Who is brainwashed and who called him Babe Ruth? It was fairly evident that he wasn't getting anything out of short season ball in Boise. He now goes to Low A Kane County. He is a college guy. We shall see what happens.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 09:17 AM) Its their home station. They always get layup interviews. Really, no one in Chicago challenges anyone in sports. What does he need to be challenged on? Hahn was great last year in interviews with Bernstein and on the Hit and Run Show. Spiegel and Abbatacola had a pretty good interview with Epstein yesterday. I think it's mostly because Hanley stinks and Rozner is barely awake for those shows. That morning show is awful.

QUOTE (glangon @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 03:41 AM) One thing with Tanaka, he generally only goes 6 or 7 innings, I can't remember him having a complete game at all this year. He's like the Yankees version of Max Scherzer. Yeah well when you strikeout as many guys as he strikes out and generally don't go that much over 100 pitches, he won't have many complete games. It's stupid anyway. Look at how many complete games Justin Verlander has. He has absolutely nothing to show for it other than starting a massive 6 year contract next season and looking like toast.

So what does the consensus think on Rodon: 1. Boras is just delaying because he's Boras. 2. Boras is holding out for the entire bonus pool plus the overage. 3. The Sox are trying to keep around $500,000-$600,000 for Montes de Oca. I believe that Rodon will sign. Even though there isn't much leverage, I could see it going awhile just because Boras is Boras though. If the holdup is Reinsdorf not paying an overage that is technically allowed though, he should just sell the team. I have nothing to prove that that would be the reason but not going over because they've never done it before is ass backwards logic. Especially when you dumped salary last year and just ate Jeff Keppinger's contract.

Cubs draft strategy is looking pretty sound. They signed 4th rnder HS LHP Carson Sands for $1.1 million and HS LHP Justin Steele (5th rounder) for $1 million. They will most likely sign Dylan Cease as well. Adding Stinnett, Case, Steele, and Sands while drafting Schwarber is a nice haul and a great way of spreading resources around. I love what the Sox did but going under slot for a potential fast moving college bat has allowed the Cubs to give $1 million bonuses to top 100 high school guys.

Here is that article by Joe Cowley: http://www.suntimes.com/sports/28103289-41...ml#.U59z2V6WUmF He also tweeted a bunch last night. The handle is @suntimes_hoops. The Bulls should have only 1 untouchable and that's only because of Derrick Rose's contract. If you truly want to be a championship team then everything should be on the table.
