  1. The thing that is funny about Harrelson is that he actually likes #'s and doesn't know it. He always talks about watching Boston, Oakland, and TB and how they have "TWTW" when actually those are 3 of the more well known sabr teams. The old man is hilarious.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 19, 2014 -> 07:50 AM) Good call. We could be talking about a Boozer, #1 pick(s), Mirotic type package to get love Not a chance. I think Minnesota asks for Taj, Butler, and 2 #1 picks. And I'd make the deal. This is around the time I'd look to trade Jimmy Butler anyway. The Bulls don't have the $$ to pay him and get another star and scorers anyway.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 17, 2014 -> 10:16 AM) Nobody saw "Million Dollar Arm" yet? Saturday Update: Warner Bros. reports that Godzilla stormed the box office on Friday for $38.53 million, giving it the best opening day of any film so far in 2014. That figure includes $9.3 million from Thursday shows and $6.2 million from IMAX screenings. BoxOffice currently projects a $98 million weekend based on yesterday's business, which would give it the best debut of the year up to this point (Captain America: The Winter Soldier currently holds that title with $95 million). Early word of mouth looks mostly positive with an 80 percent Flixster score as of Saturday morning, although the film's reported CinemaScore was a modest "B+". Regardless, the opening validates one of the most effective, and impressive, marketing campaigns to come along in awhile. WB wisely sold the film as a character-driven disaster flick rather than a straight-up creature feature, and the dividends are paying huge as mainstream audiences connected with the reboot on a level that few saw coming. Where legs go from here will depend on the aforementioned word of mouth, as well as immediate competition from X-Men: Days of Future Past (opening next week). Meanwhile, Disney's Million Dollar Arm posted $3.46 million in its debut yesterday. BoxOffice projects a $10.8 million weekend from there. The Jon Hamm-led baseball drama was expected to open modestly well, while staying power is the name of the game as Disney hopes buzz for the film spreads through and beyond Memorial Day weekend. For now, the opening is in line with recent sports-centric flicks Draft Day ($9.8 million opening weekend) and Trouble with the Curve ($12.2 million). from boxoffice.com I saw Million Dollar Arm. I remember reading about the actual story in SI a few years back. It was fine for a cliched sports movie. My girlfriend is a Pirates fan and wanted to see it. John Hamm was good but I wouldn't blame anyone waiting for it to come out on Blu-Ray. I saw Neighbors too. Pleasantly surprised. I laughed pretty much throughout. Seth Rogen is so hit or miss.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 18, 2014 -> 08:34 PM) Draftnick is just a way to say/write it quickly. There's no known word for somebody who roots for their team to lose to get the best draft position. Not meant to be derogatory. The people that do it freely admit to it so they don't mind getting labeled I wouldn't think. It's draftnik actually. Draftnik is a term describing those who study professional sports leagues drafts, and cover the draft in the media. The term is most often used in reference to the NFL Draft and was coined in the mid-1980s after the draft was first televised by ESPN. -Wikipedia.
  5. LOL at freaking out about a 19 year old's A+ ball debut. He will be fine.
  6. QUOTE (southside hitman @ May 16, 2014 -> 10:14 PM) Might be time for him to get some practice in the OF. That's now how this works. Tim Anderson is a top 100 prospect in baseball because of his ceiling. He is extremely raw. We have to learn how to take the good with the bad. He is going to take awhile. He will most likely end up at 2B but it is way too soon to put him in the OF. Raw IF that play in A ball usually make a ton of errors.
  7. Would Texas take Danks back with all of their pitching injuries?
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2014 -> 01:28 PM) Danish gives up 2 in the 2nd 2 run HR.
  9. Having Hoffman get injured was a punch in the gut for me because he was the guy that I wanted at #3. However, this seems to be shaping up nicely for the White Sox. Kyle Freeland from Evansville is very intriguing to me as well. If the White Sox want Rodon or Aiken, there is a good chance that one of them will be available. If they are both gone, they can choose between Freeland and Kolek. I think it's a win-win either way. Freeland is a LH starter with a 3 pitch mix that is both safe and an upside play. There's a good chance that Freeland will still get a lot better and he already has fantastic command. I like Kolek personally and wouldn't be upset with that pick but if given the scenario, taking Freeland at #3 wouldn't upset me either. It's getting closer guys but the bottom line is that the Sox need to hit with this pick.
  10. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ May 16, 2014 -> 04:44 PM) I'm achin' to get Brady with our 3rd pick. AMIRITE??!?!?!?!?!? Absolutely. Brady Aiken at #3 would be the best possible scenario. He throws 4 above average to + pitches. He hasn't been abused by his coaches. Could be a pretty fast moving high schooler with the ceiling of a ML Ace. I hope he falls to #3 but Houston would be nuts not to take him in my opinion.
  11. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 16, 2014 -> 11:16 AM) So is NW and NIU from what I hear. Illinois isnt all that close to home if he's really going there to be by his "sick mother". This is true but if USC fouled up the waiver process which is rumored; he will be heading to Notre Dame.
  12. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 16, 2014 -> 10:58 AM) Sox getting Aiken would be awesome. Cubs, Twins and Mariners would be insane to pass on Kolek. I think the Twins are locked onto SS Nick Gordon. I don't think the Cubs would pass on Kolek with Aiken/Rodon off the board. Man the best case scenario would be Rodon going #1 it sounds like. Miami would take Jackson or Kolek, leaving the White Sox with the no brainer selection of Brady Aiken.
  13. Am I the only one left that thinks Gordon will be shipped off at the deadline?
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 15, 2014 -> 07:06 PM) How is it fake? Sportsmanship in any sport at any level is something adults have, and if someone is a baby about it, people call it like they see it. Lucic acted like a little whiny baby, the type of guy who tries to meet you in the parking lot after a rat hockey game. Why didn't someone like Backes react that way in the handshake line when he saw Keith and Seabrook? Because he knows its not the time or the place. The problem that I have is the way it's covered. So you mean to tell me that Backes and Seabrook "are all good now"? Not saying it to you Rock but that's how the commentators make it sound. Seabrook concussed a guy and f***ed with his livelihood but everything's good now. "Look at them shaking hands". Backes is a professional and didn't react in the handshake line but that line is often contrived as something the teams are "supposed" to do.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 15, 2014 -> 02:54 PM) Right, and these leaks are going to make sure they tell him things with 100% accuracy because it benefits everyone that each team knows exactly what the other is thinking. C'mon man. His information is for entertainment purposes only. He is the Chris Broussard of baseball. Minus the hatred for homosexuals of course.
  16. Rob (Lime Rock, CT) Tyler Danish has been impressive so far this year. I know the delivery is far from ideal, but do you think he stays as a starter? Potential # 1 stuff or is that too optimistic? Thanks Klaw (1:50 PM) Reliever for me. Great stuff, but you don't see any MLB starts with that slot or arm swing. Law didn't really like Danish coming out either. Thought he was pegged for the bullpen but many guys think that.
  17. QUOTE (southside hitman @ May 15, 2014 -> 11:03 AM) http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/draft/mock/...-Law-Mock-Draft Keith Law's first mock draft has a shocker, he has the Marlins selecting Alex Jackson at #2 and the Sox passing on Rodon for Tyler Kolek. I'll post his thoughts on the top three picks... For Brady Aiken to Houston: Analysis: I keep hearing the Astros are down to three names: Aiken, Carlos Rodon, and Alex Jackson, with local product Tyler Kolek likely on the outside of that final set. The decision may come down to money -- they'd like to repeat their successful 2012 strategy, where they save $2 million or so on the top pick and reallocate the money to later picks (they have No. 37 and No. 42 this year) to acquire more first-round talents who slid into the sandwich/second because of their bonus demands. For Alex Jackson to Miami: Analysis: The Marlins are on the same three names as Houston, plus Tyler Kolek, but the word around town is that Miami is focusing heavily on bats throughout the draft. The Fish have the most money in their draft pool of any team this year, with extra picks at 36 and 39 as well as their regular pick at 43, and could do just what Houston wants to do, cleaning up with as many as four first-round talents if they play their money right. I've also heard them with Bradley Zimmer, but I think he's a tweener for them -- probably not as good as their best options at No. 2, and clearly long gone before they pick again. For Tyler Kolek to Chicago: Analysis: The White Sox want one of the big three arms, so even though early favorite Jeff Hoffman is on the shelf after Tommy John surgery, they'll still get someone they really like. The bet here is that they'd do better financially with Kolek than with Carlos Rodon, but I wouldn't rule out the latter. Everything I'm projecting here is about probabilities, or possibilities, not certainties. I was coming here to post about this. Keith Law has Rodon to the Cubs, Gordon to the Twins, Conforto to the M's, Nola to Philly, Freeland to Rox, and Toronto taking Touissant and Hoffman. He has Fedde falling to 18 with Washington and Pittsburgh taking Beede at #24.
  18. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ May 14, 2014 -> 08:56 PM) I don't like complaining about the refs but goddam do they let LeBron/Heat get away with murder and if you do the same to them, it's a foul. F*ck Joey Crawford and those idiot refs from last night. Haha Lebron and the Heat get the same calls that Jordan and the 90's Bulls got.
  19. QUOTE (TRU @ May 15, 2014 -> 08:32 AM) I don't remember claiming they were a great team, but they have certainly been better than the Bills over the same time frame. They were 2 games better than the Bills last season and that was with losing to Thad Lewis and those same Bills twice. Now that they have the offensive line fixed, and Tannehill wont have to worry about getting sacked 58 times, they can improve on what was already a pretty good season last year. You may think its hilarious, but you know damn well you would kill for a Bills "Fluky" season where they win 10+ games and the AFC east FWIW, I think the Jets will finish 2nd in the AFC East.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ May 14, 2014 -> 08:51 PM) He's been unable to string together good at bats since the first week of the season. For now, Gillaspie seems to be the 3B of the present and future for this organization. People keep saying this about Gillaspie. I don't think someone with those R/L splits is in the future of anything other than a platoon at 3B.
  21. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 14, 2014 -> 05:49 PM) Conor Gillaspie is quietly putting together a very good season. He's been solid with the glove and he's doing what he needs to do at the plate to be a MLB regular. That was a freaking steal by Hahn. The guy always had 1st round talent, just needed a place to find it. If he turns into a good player for us I will give Ventura a lot of credit. Gillaspie is a platoon player. He should never face LHP.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 14, 2014 -> 10:42 AM) How many other coaches would have let this bunch to anything but the lottery? Thibs is a top coach in the NBA, no doubt about it. Absolutely. I think Thibodeau is probably the 2nd best coach in the NBA after Pop. He has flaws though. The minute loads are a big deal though. It is possible that his teams will never be healthy enough in the playoffs to win anything because of his "win all 82" mentality.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 14, 2014 -> 08:05 AM) There is literally no name anywhere that will produce a response other than "furious". Fine, maybe Popovich, but no plausible name. If the Bulls come to the conclusion that Thibodeau will never win a title because he beats his players into the ground or Thibs decides to go somewhere else and they can hire Fred Hoiberg, I'd be ok with it. I love Thibodeau but in the NBA players matter so much more.
  24. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 14, 2014 -> 09:09 AM) lol, i dont know how McNeil could tire of Speigel, he has only showed up to work with him about 40 percent of the time Mac has been great since returning but that's because he is probably on borrowed time. I believe Mac's contract expires in June and he has stated that he will not be working this summer.
  25. Boers is awful. Mully and Hanley are awful too. Still though, I never even turn on 1000. That lineup is garbage. Waddle offers nothing in the afternoon and the other stuff is bland radio with too much national radio. 670 will have some lineup changes fairly soon. I think Boers will finally retire but there's really nobody to put with Bernstein. Holmes tanked the ratings on McNeil's show and there's still a chance that Danny Mac will jump to WGN. Seems like McNeil is tiring of his own partner as well. I think that Bernstein and Goff together in the midday slot would work giving Mcneil afternoon drive. I have no idea who Mac's partner would be though.
