  1. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 09:45 PM) Bulls should want nothing to do with the Nets in the first round. That was a struggle enough last year. Completely disagree. I think if the Bulls beat Brooklyn they go to the EC Finals. If they get the #3 seed, they lose to Miami in round 2.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 12:52 AM) Oh come on. All the bad players on this team to pick from and you choose Paulie as the dead weight? Yep he did. It is pointless to have Konerko on this team. He hasn't had a chance to start vs many LH but Robin still hasn't used him properly. The other day, Leury Garcia was up to bat in a 4-4 tie against Cleveland. A LHP was on the mound and Ventura let Garcia and Gillaspie face him. If that isn't the time to use Konerko then I'm not real sure why he's even there. Actually, I know why he's there. JR didn't let his baseball people do their jobs.
  3. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 02:05 PM) Well that explains everything, I'm not on twitter so I never thought to look. Thank you for the tip, I'll keep an eye on twitter just to see how those kids are doing. Yeah you may want to just make an account. Everything is on twitter. I'm warning you ahead of time though that it's pretty much the greatest thing ever created.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 02:07 PM) Semien goes to Charlotte to play everyday, and Garcia stays as the utility guy. Thanks, Rock.
  5. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 01:48 PM) Good luck selling that logic to fans if they're within a few games of 1st in July. The same fans that won't go anywhere near that ballpark? I'm fairly confident that we won't have to worry about them being close to 1st in July.
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 10:08 AM) Any vets that dont have a slot on this team in 2-3 years are simply trade fodder at this point, so hope for a rebound. This is absolutely true. Scott Downs was signed for the sole purpose of trading him in July.
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 01:08 PM) Yeah they really dont need to "do" anything right now. Rock, what do you think happens when Beckham is ready?
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 01:34 PM) How many teams would actually be able to give Rodon money equivalent to the #1 pick? Honestly, I think the Cubs would probably do it. Maybe the Mets.
  9. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 01:16 PM) I would take Rodon over Hoffman, even though the NC State coaches overpitch Rodon and likely will continue to do so. Hoffman's numbers just don't do it for me; I know there is more there but I still don't get it. I saw him pitch once - not dominating at all. I'd rather have Hoffman at slot value or just under than Rodon at overslot $$.
  10. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 11:08 AM) Yes. But, that person may not be there at #3. I think we all know option A, but if that is off the table, who knows what option B is? I think a lot of the speculation now is moving toward potential second round targets, and that will be greatly impacted but the deal the #3 pick gets. Wait, we do? Is option A Hoffman?
  11. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 10:20 AM) I know that wild trade scenarios are the lifeblood of message boards, but there is absolutely no chance the Sox are "buyers" at the trade deadline. They are going to be "sellers", and that's only if Dunn, Beckham, and DeAza/Viciedo are productive between now and the end of June. There have been a lot of good things so far this season, but Dunn having a .934 OPS may be the best of those good things. I completely agree with this. I think it will be a successful season if the Sox can acquire some talent for: Dunn, Ramirez, Beckham, De Aza, and some of the veteran bullpen guys.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 09:17 AM) Do we really want to see a left to right of Gillaspie, Semien/Sanchez at SS/2B and Abreu at 1B? I think keeping Alexei as the veteran stabilizer in the infield is just what this team needs for some balance...otherwise, the team's going to be almost too young. Sanchez is nowhere close to being ready offensively, either. I guess they could move Semien to SS and leave Gordon at 2B (until a Beckham trade or someone pushes him out). Doesn't matter to me. If you can get value for Ramirez you do it. Is he going to be on the team the next time the White Sox are ready to win the World Series? Probably not. I wouldn't dump him and they won't either but if you can get something nice, I'd absolutely move just about anyone. Sale, Quintana, Johnson, Abreu, Semien, Eaton, Webb will all most likely be here. Everyone else could probably be had.
  13. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 13, 2014 -> 09:20 PM) Dumb question alert! So because Toronto won their division, do they get the #3 seed over the Bulls if the two teams finished tied despite the fact the Bulls have the better conference record? I believe so. However, if Indiana is the #1 seed, the Bulls should pack it in and stay at #4. They never would though.
  14. QUOTE (farmteam @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 09:16 AM) Watched Django Unchained the other night. Just happened to catch it as it started on Showtime and kept watching. I was surprised how much I liked it. Usually with Tarantino movies there are certain scenes that I love but I don't like sitting down to watch the whole movie. Django is actually my favorite of his movies including Pulp Fiction.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 12, 2014 -> 02:34 PM) Or "if they are willing..." Seems they're still quite reluctant to give him a starring role in a $100+ million picture, instead of cameos. Nobody saw DRAFT DAY, I'm guessing? Bad timing for that movie, it should be the weekend of the draft or during the actual NFL season....not in the middle of NBA/NHL/Masters/MLB time and right after the Final Four. I saw Draft Day. The NFL Draft is my favorite event of the year. The movie was pretty bad but I love that they actually made a movie about the NFL Draft. I don't want to give too much away but some unrealistic things happen obviously and it was kind of thrown together. It was cool seeing the actual team facilities though in the movie and if you like the NFL Draft it is worth seeing. Just know what you are seeing ahead of time.
  16. I agree that it's too early but I'd love to sell extremely high on Ramirez right now.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 08:15 AM) Wittman providing some nice information as to what he sees - but you have to simply take it as that. What he sees in those games. Some guys I'll take broader analysis from too, but a guy who says Hawkins' CEILING is a bench player at this point? Come on now. He may only be a bench player or may not even make it at all, but calling that his ceiling this early means you're just going for the look-I'm-Keith-Law-too angle. Absolutely. That's why I got into it with him a little bit. I went to WS and saw Hawkins in person last year. He was completely lost. I had seen some positive reports and video this year so I asked him about it. Then he proceeded to s*** all over the kid for some reason. It sounded biased and honestly doesn't give him much credibility as far as I'm concerned.
  18. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 13, 2014 -> 04:13 PM) Not to derail your point but what age with the junior high kids? Travel ball? Yeah. I'm not coaching baseball though. I teach junior high and coach HS football and JR high track. I was trying to make a joke sorry. But yeah, the kids i coach in other sports play for the Sparks and some other teams around here.
  19. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 13, 2014 -> 03:47 PM) The problem is that it's a biased look. Wittman has never liked Hawkins and is now seeing something that reaffirms his original belief. I was debating Wittman on twitter and now Stoltz got dragged in as well. Here was Wittman's last tweet. CJ Wittmann ‏@CJWittJr 8m @stoltz_baseball @chrisrod13 @JamesFox917 MLB extra is the ceiling Expand He says that Hawkin's ceiling is MLB extra. I have some JR High players in Homer Glen that I'd like him to predict the futures on for me as well. I think that Hawkins floor is lower than MLB extra but the ceiling is still higher.
  20. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 13, 2014 -> 02:05 PM) The only way that happens is if Hoffman goes 1 or 2 and Rodon is demanding way over slot. Honestly, I think Hoffman will be available at 3 and he'll be our pick. He just makes too much sense for us. Agree. I think Houston and Miami both take the HS arms at 1 and 2. Sox go with Hoffman at #3 and Cubs take Rodon. Obviously this will all change.
  21. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Apr 13, 2014 -> 02:27 PM) Agreed. Wittmann also sounds especially negative/snarky on Hawkins which is unpalatable. He does like Anderson though. Both of these opinions are in line with Jason Parks at BP for what it's worth. The problem is that it's a biased look. Wittman has never liked Hawkins and is now seeing something that reaffirms his original belief. I was debating Wittman on twitter and now Stoltz got dragged in as well.
  22. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 12, 2014 -> 04:47 PM) Why was Garcia not pinch hit for in the 8th?? I would much rather have Semien or Konerko or even Flowers. Players who can hit the ball out of the damn infield. Robin has made some very questionable calls so far this year. One big one was not challenging the home run None of those guys bat LH……………...
  23. QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Apr 12, 2014 -> 01:50 PM) There's decent evidence suggesting heavy slider usage leads to velocity loss and elbow or shoulder injuries. I understand that but he isn't anywhere close to what he is without that 80 grade slider.
  24. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 12, 2014 -> 01:00 PM) Hawk gone? Huff is in today. Hawk is sick.
  25. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Apr 12, 2014 -> 12:01 PM) http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/vin...ukes-van-orden/ "Duke senior David Perkins, who had 20 at-bats entering the game, led off the second inning by pounding an elevated 95 mph fastball over the fence in dead-center field. In the third, Mike Rosenfeld doubled to right-center on another elevated fastball, and Jordan Betts drove him in on a single through the drawn-in infield on a 96 mph heater. “When I leave the ball up, I just beat myself,” Rodon said. “That ball that, I don’t know who it was that hit that home run, the ball’s up. You throw a slider there, he’s out. You throw a fastball down, he’s out. That’s probably the only ball he’ll ever hit off me. Sounds like Rodon is kind of a douche. Would having a "mean streak" be the scouting term? "Rodon, of course, owns the most explosive slider in college baseball, and it was at its best Friday, devastating the Blue Devils at 86-89 mph. BA’s Clint Longenecker recorded 55 sliders from Rodon, and 67 percent of them were strikes—and a staggering 54 percent of his slider strikes came via swings and misses. Over the first three innings, he also showed his best fastball velocity, sitting at 94-96 and touching 98 once. But it was elevated in those early innings, and Duke took advantage." 55 sliders? No wonder his fastball has been less than impressive this year. I read that a scout would recommend whatever team draft him to force him to not throw sliders or very few during games to make him get outs with his fastball, cutter, and split-change. Ehh. Just sounds confident to me. Also, doesn't he have an 80 slider? Why wouldn't you want him to throw his best pitch?
