  1. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 04:27 PM) Oh, forgot about that. Last time I actually watched draft was 05 I think to see where Mike Bowden would get drafted. Funny you mention this. I graduated HS in 2004 from Lockport and in 2005 the Lockport baseball team won state. They beat Mount Carmel in the finals after MT Carmel beat Waubonsie. That was the weekend of the draft and there were rumors that the Red Sox shut down Bowden for the season. He was ridiculous for Waubonsie and they would have won state had he pitched.

  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 31, 2014 -> 11:33 AM) Geez, tough crowd. In the great city of Chicago, Konerko should get all the attention in the world. He and Buehrle are my favorite Sox of all time. Umm Frank Thomas.
  4. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Mar 31, 2014 -> 11:19 AM) Gillaspie was decent against RHP last year, so maybe that's what they are going with. Still not good that the 3 hitter is just ok. Right but who is the starter at 3rd against LHP then? They don't have anyone to put there. Gillaspie starting every day will be a nightmare. His platoon splits are really bad. In 368 PA's vs RHP Gillaspie had a .738 OPS with 12 homers. Against LHP in 66 PAs, Gillaspie had a .451 OPS. Obviously a small sample, but I don't need to see any more Conor Gillaspie at bats vs a LHP.
  5. QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 31, 2014 -> 10:57 AM) Not a fan of Gillaspie hitting third. I think Robin's putting too much weight into the handedness of his hitters. I'd much rather have someone like Garcia (or hell even De Aza) in that spot. Yeah it's dumb. If Viciedo is part of the White Sox future I believe that he should be starting as well.
  6. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 30, 2014 -> 01:56 PM) The traditionalist in me hopes they just go back to Comiskey Park. I not a fan of corporate names on stadiums. No chance. If someone wants to offer that much money, take it. I'd be for sponsorship on the uniforms if it puts better players on the team.
  7. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Mar 30, 2014 -> 01:42 PM) It's one game and for a player that has been the face of our franchise for years. f*** Adam Dunn Did you miss the part about Paul Konerko not wanting to start tomorrow?
  8. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Mar 30, 2014 -> 01:23 PM) I think Konerko should start on his last opening day. Let him DH. We should be recognizing what all he's meant to this team. But whatever let's just play some ball. Ehh. It's not Little League though. It's not their best lineup. Play your best lineup.
  9. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Mar 30, 2014 -> 11:10 AM) So who's 1,2,4,5? Laws Rankings are: 1. Aiken 2. Kolek 3. Rodon 4. Beede 5. Holmes 6. Hoffman. 7. Alex Jackson 8. RHP Luis Ortiz 9. SS Nick Gordon 10. HS RHP Dylan Cease. So 8/10 are pitchers for Keith Law.
  10. Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 9m Konerko made the call on Opening Day with Robin. In this new role, he felt as if he wouldn't be starting in Game 5 against Nolasco... Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 9m ... He shouldn't be starting on Opening Day against him. Scot Gregor ‏@scotgregor 14m Konerko not starting season opener. Ventura still deciding between Viciedo, De Aza in LF God Konerko had to save the Sox from themselves. I worried about Konerko playing too often. Sounds like he has a pretty good grasp on it.
  11. QUOTE (Lillian @ Mar 30, 2014 -> 10:34 AM) That's a pretty serious indictment of their coaching ineptitude. Perhaps the organization ought to start by finding some people who can develop hitters. They can't build a farm system if they can't do that. I'd certainly hope that they would not pass on an exceptional hitting prospect, because they lack the confidence in their own people to develop him. It's true but you have to look at some of the guys that were drafted in my opinion. Semien can hit. Johnson can hit. Anderson is drawing rave reviews from prospect guys and scouts. Look at some guys that aren't so good: Walker, Thompson, Hawkins, Mitchell. They were all raw toolsy types. It appears that the Sox organization as a whole has difficulty developing these types of players but there is a chance that these guys would not have developed anyway and there's still time as well. One of the biggest problems was JR's reluctance to spend on the draft. Kenny believes in drafting high upside toolsy players that have a chance to be stars in baseball. JR didn't want to pay the appropriate bonus $$ to secure these players. The outcome of that predicament is drafting the Keenyn Walker and Trayce Thompson's of the world.
  12. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 26, 2014 -> 09:38 AM) Caught some movies on plane rides this weekend: 12 Years A Slave - good solid movie, but something about it keeps it from being in the great category. I don't think it was as "deep" as it could have been. It was more of a " and then this happened, and then this happened, and then this happened" kind of movie. 10 more minutes of some back story would have been helpful to engage me a little more with the characters. I'm also not really sure why Nyong'o won for best supporting actress. Admittedly I'm not sure about her competition, but I really didn't see anything special about her performance. Especially since her screen time seemed relatively brief. Frankly out of everyone in that movie I thought Fassbender did the best. Ejiofor was also good, but I felt like he overacted a bit at times. (the "i'm trying to survive" or whatever line was way over the top). Also LOL at Brad Pitt. Christ is he awful. Maybe that's why it wasn't great. His addition was so distracting it immediately took me out of the movie. Wolf of Wall Street - again, good solid movie, very entertaining, but not great. Why Leo was nominated is beyond me. He's literally just playing Leo from every movie he's ever made. Same with Hill - he was funny, but what was so great about that performance? Minor gripes, since the movie itself was pretty good. Typical Scorcese though, 20-30 minutes too long. Yeah I think Jennifer Lawrence should have won for American Hustle. She was fantastic in that.
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 27, 2014 -> 01:52 PM) Hopefully the director was able to tune Bay out and make it how he wanted Shredder is a white guy and Megan Fox is April O'neil. Michael Bay is awful.

    2014 TV thread

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 27, 2014 -> 09:38 AM) I have tempered enthusiasm about it. I love the show, but it's gotten pretty slow and I feel like last season it was going over the same themes (and plotlines) that we saw in seasons 1-3. Oh man. I thought last season was tremendous. I can't wait for it to start.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 29, 2014 -> 01:44 AM) Look, I'm just saying baseball wasn't designed to be an elitist sport. You disagree? I don't and won't sit in upper tank. I'm a box seat guy. So what will a game cost me on the secondary market? I don't know, Greg. You could probably go and sit in the lower bowl for $30. It is hilarious that you say baseball wasn't supposed to be elitist but you are too elite to sit in the upper deck though. The UD at the Cell a few rows back behind home plate are some of the best seats in the house in my opinion. Nobody is forcing you to go to games though. That's why I hate the argument. If it's too expensive, don't go. The games are on television.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 29, 2014 -> 09:56 AM) (Just to point out, he got 113 PA's last year against LHP with both 1b and DH available. He did miss a portion of the year, but that's only going to get him to 150 PA's if you scale up. If he's getting 300 PA's, he's taking 150 PA's against RHP, and if you scale his performance last year that gives an overall .750-ish OPS). You are preaching to the choir, man. He will be overused and he will be bad. Robin doesn't use Gillaspie properly so there is no way that Konerko will be used properly.
  17. The fact that there are 9 pages about the Sox hypothetically signing a pitcher that they are never going to sign is funny to me.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 29, 2014 -> 09:47 AM) As I stated months ago, the odd man out with Konerko coming back is Jordan Danks. Is Jordan Danks better off playing every day in Charlotte or being the 5th OF in Chicago? Konerko and his .900+OPS takes Dunn's spot vs. LHP. Whine all you want about it, but it isn't weakening the team. His .900+ .ops vs LHP for 300 at bats should lead the White Sox to 72-75 wins.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 28, 2014 -> 11:55 PM) I just don't understand baseball's need to give a contract like this. 10 years is just flat out stupid. I mean in 4 years (which is a long time) he might have a bad back or something and be DONE. It's just unnecessary to pay this kind of money to a fricking baseball player. Baseball players would play for a million a year if they had to. For the most part, they are not rocket scientists. Baseball owners slay me. Some of you don't remember the day you could actually go to a baseball game and park for a couple of bucks instead of 25-50 bucks and didn't need to shell out 59 bucks for a halfway decent seat for a meaningless April game. Baseball was never meant to be an elitist sport as it has become. Ridiculous. I guess the team gets to purchase insurance in case he can't ever play again after a serious injury; I'm assuming they at least will do that. God I hate when people complain about ticket prices. I saw Chris Sale pitch 13 rows behind home plate last year and it cost me $18. Use the secondary market for tickets. Also, as bad as baseball contracts seem, baseball players still get a smaller portion of the overall revenue than football, basketball, or hockey players. It doesn't even matter. Detroit's tv deal is up in two years and then they sign a new one and Cabrera's deal won't even matter. That's how much revenue these teams are making.
  20. Doug Padilla ‏@ESPNChiSox 1m White Sox option reliever Guerra to AAA Charlotte. Was claimed from the Dodgers on Wed. Interesting. Daniel Webb most likely makes the team.
  21. Nathaniel Stoltz ‏@stoltz_baseball 6m Looks like the #WhiteSox released OF Mark Haddow, who hit .272/.376/.391 here in Winston-Salem last year.
  22. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Mar 26, 2014 -> 07:40 PM) So pumped for Monday I can barely handle it Because of the Jared Allen press conference?
  23. Chicago White Sox ‏@whitesox 2m Robin Ventura said it is likely that @gordonbeckham will begin season on DL & Marcus Semien & @leurygarcia1 will share duties at 2nd base.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 26, 2014 -> 12:23 PM) That was last year, right? They are doing it this year with Hawk, Stoney, Farmer, DJ. I am trying to get the photo.
