  1. QUOTE (OsweGo-Go Sox @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 01:51 PM) Gene, any codes for Saturday August 31st (TLR bobblehead)? Didn't see them on the special events page Any truth to the rumor that the TLR bobblehead is of him drunk and asleep at a stoplight?

QUOTE (flavum @ Feb 25, 2014 -> 12:16 PM) Seth Meyers...not a good start. You can only smile and pause for laughs so much. I forgot he took that gig. Fallon isn't funny either though. Craig Ferguson is the best in late night and even he doesn't give a s*** anymore.
  3. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 01:42 PM) I just don't think organizational depth is a reason to sell low. That was the rationale to give Quentin to the Padres, for example. I agree with this. I don't think obtaining a 22 year old that can be seen as a starting catcher with 6 years of control for Gordon Beckham is necessarily selling low.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 01:22 PM) I've read that Jets are really interested. That Jets thing sounds like an agent plant to me. Jets have to stick with Geno as the starter. I bet McCown is back with Bears for a lot cheaper than most think.
  5. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 01:35 PM) It would really be selling low on Beckham (who showed some improvement with the bat) to trade him for one of these backup catchers, none of whom is a top prospect. Keppinger? Fine. It would also hurt our D a lot for Keppinger to play 2B. I think Murphy is better than any catcher in the Sox org. The Sox have potentially 3 guys that could replace Beckham in the next 1-2 years. Keppinger playing 2B for now would be fine because the Sox are going to be bad this year. The only way to deal Keppinger is by allowing him to play vs LHP, hoping that he hits, and then dealing him.
  6. QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 01:13 PM) Interesting. He'll be toeing the line of his weakness and strength there. Not that it's a bad thing, but we should be jam packed in AAA with MLB talent (role players, bench players, guys with potential, etc.). Especially if Davidson doesn't break with the team. INF - Davidson, Semien, Sanchez, L. Garcia, OF - Mitchell, L. Garcia, perhaps Danks, perhaps Thompson, Tekotte. Lots of decisions to make all over the place for Hahn and the front office. I think Leury will be on the team. Hahn has mentioned him twice this offseason referring to him pinch running in later innings. I will be annoyed If Garcia spends the majority of the season in the minors while Konerko is on the ML roster.
  7. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 01:25 PM) The Cubs series is the weekend of the NFL Draft so not only will I not be attending a game, I will most likely not watch either. I hate that scheduling quirk this year. My mistake. Thursday is the only day affected by it.
  8. QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 01:17 PM) If it makes you feel better Saturday May 24th, Chris Sale bobblehead day will be the first pick in my Dad's draft (OD not included). Discount codes do not happen for Yankees games. Everyone see the Cubs prices? Absolutely ridiculous. Our seats in section 127 are $111 a ticket. The Cubs series is the weekend of the NFL Draft so not only will I not be attending a game, I will most likely not watch either. I hate that scheduling quirk this year.
  9. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 08:06 AM) The best option has to be Murphy. FanGraphs ranked him the No. 2 prospect in the Yankees system and he is the youngest (at 22). By far, the most potential and a legit starting catching prospect. I am not sure Beckham alone could get the deal done. But both teams dealing from a position of strength. We would all love to dump Keppinger but personally, I'd deal Beckham straight up for JR Murphy. Sox could then just play Keppinger at 2B for the time being with Semien taking over at some point soon. I don't think Gordon will be able to hold off Sanchez, Johnson, and Semien for much longer anyway.
  10. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Feb 22, 2014 -> 03:47 PM) Would the sox have had any interest in the Cuban SS that the Dodgers just signed? Not at that price. He's all glove. We already have Leury Garcia for a lot cheaper.
  11. I can't go to Opening Day because of work. If they start PK at 1B, I'll be glad that I wasn't there. Nolasco is starting. It should be Abreu and Dunn vs the RHP.
  12. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Feb 20, 2014 -> 02:18 PM) Nono of those guys are going to be ready in the next month. How far is JR Murphy from the majors?
  13. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Feb 20, 2014 -> 02:16 PM) Who will be the opening day starter at 1B? Do the Sox send Paulie out there symbolically as a tribute or defer to the rookie? It will be against Ricky Nolasco so it better be Abreu at 1B and Dunn at DH.
  14. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 18, 2014 -> 03:14 PM) What the f*** catcher could possibly be brought in at this point? Chris Widger? Yasmani Grandal from the Padres when Austin Hedges is ready. JR Murphy or Gary Sanchez from Yankees because they signed McCann. Jason Castro from Astros when Max Stassi is ready Just a few names.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 17, 2014 -> 05:32 PM) It makes a lot of sense for Baltimore. They did a great job waiting out the market. Giving up #17 is still a tough pill to swallow though. They may as well go all in and sign Morales too now.
  16. Chris Cotillo ‏@ChrisCotillo 8m #Orioles are closing in on a deal with Ubaldo Jimenez, according to @masnRoch. Appears to be a 4-year, $48MM deal. That's a really good deal for Baltimore.
  17. 1 down, 1 to go. Chris Cotillo ‏@ChrisCotillo 8m #Orioles are closing in on a deal with Ubaldo Jimenez, according to @masnRoch. Appears to be a 4-year, $48MM deal.
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 17, 2014 -> 10:08 AM) Kobe and J4L agree on the NBA Mt Rushmore http://m.espn.go.com/nba/story?storyId=10468395 Sorry but Larry Bird isn't one of the 4 best players ever.
  19. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 17, 2014 -> 11:20 AM) There is a lot of younger talent at The Score. Ben Finfer, Adam Hoge, Jay Zawaski, Matt Abbatacola... just to name a few. Holmes and Goff have a bright future at The Score, so they wont be jumping. You guys know that Jason Goff has been doing Sports Radio in Atlanta for almost 2 years now, right?
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 14, 2014 -> 09:59 AM) The reason they won't trade him is because they can't. The Knicks are over the cap if Melo walks. Taking Boozer's $16 million next year is $16 million + luxury tax penalty. And the penalties become much more severe next year. What cost the Lakers $29 million this year would cost $75 million next. He can't be amnestied by any team other than the Bulls. Any trade rumor that includes Carlos Boozer is totally made up. Lance Stevenson and/or Danny Granger. Those are guys who realistically might be Bulls next year. And his contract can't be bought out. It is guaranteed. If the Bulls amnesty him, he still gets paid, it just doesn't count against the Bulls cap. I think how it works is they have some sort of auction and the Bulls pay the difference between the high bid and his contract figure. Stephenson or Granger doesn't get you closer to a title though. If the Bulls can't get Melo, I think I'd keep Boozer and save the money for 2015 when Aldridge and Love become free agents. No reason to force it this offseason.
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 14, 2014 -> 07:40 AM) Stephen A. Smith's rant about Melo needing to demand a trade was awesome. Here's hoping the Knicks get desperate and the Bulls somehow pull of a trade without giving up Jimmy, Taj, Mirotic, or Noah. Keep hoping. If Carmelo is on the roster, Bulls can't pay Taj as well. There's like no scenario in which Taj and Melo would be on the Bulls together unless Noah is gone.
  22. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Feb 13, 2014 -> 12:55 PM) Seattle Mariners come to mind. Just read on mlbtraderumors that Franklin Gutierrez will not play for them in the 2014 season because of a relapse of his gastrointestinal injury. All they have in the outfield now is Michael Saunders and Dustin Ackley. If they miss out on Cruz, I could see them definitely be interested in De Aza. Montero comes to my mind that can possibly help immediately from the Mariners. What are your guys thoughts about this and where else you see De Aza is a good fit? Seattle has a really strange roster. Michael Saunders wil play CF for them. I believe that they sign Cruz and he plays RF. That leaves Montero, Smoak, Logan Morrison, and Corey Hart for LF, 1B, and DH. They obviously have Cano at 2B and Zunino at C. Ackley and Nick Franklin are wildcards in all of this. It seems like they definitely have a logjam somewhere though.
  23. QUOTE (Jake @ Feb 13, 2014 -> 10:08 AM) It would be very interesting to see a team with healthy Rose and Melo on it. I think Melo throughout his career has not typically done a good job of making his teammates better, though he has started to develop in that regard. With an MVP-ish point guard on his team, that might affect both of their styles of play. A strong-headed coach like Thibs could command the respect of all actors as well. It is certainly an experiment worth doing and honestly we become at least a top 3 team in the East if you add Melo without gutting the entire roster (I'm talking this year, no Rose). If you can have a starting lineup of Rose-Butler-Melo-Taj-Noah at some point, that looks like a truly great team if you have absolutely anything behind those 5. This would never be the starting five though because the Bulls can't add Melo without getting rid of Taj Gibson's money.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 13, 2014 -> 08:19 AM) Is there any way to back-load an MLE deal into future years? i.e. Mirotic gets an Omer Asik type deal with a MLE level the first year and a heavy backload into years 2 and 3? I was wondering this too. I was under the assumption that since Mirotic's rights are essentially owned by the Bulls that they could go over the cap and into the luxury tax to sign him. Multiple people have told me that this is untrue. For example, if the Bulls were over the cap and wanted to give Butler a deal, they could because he's on their team. The same rules do not apply for Mirotic from what I've been told. I could be wrong, but as long as Rose and Noah are on the roster, getting Carmelo for max $$ would end the Mirotic speculation for at least next season.
  25. QUOTE (Jake @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 01:07 PM) Assuming Melo signs a Bird Exception deal that is gently backloaded, we'd have $73M committed to Melo, Rose, Noah, Taj, Felton, Dunleavy, and Shumpert (players listed from largest to smallest salary). It would be cutting it really close in terms of the tax and our ability to give MLE to Mirotic. I don't think that they can sign Melo and Mirotic. It's just not possible. Trading Taj, Dunleavy, and Kirk gets the Bulls the necessary $$ to sign Carmelo. Mirotic will be looking for more than the MLE I think too. I think you are looking at something $7-$8 million per year for Mirotic.
