  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 24, 2014 -> 03:42 PM) I predict Soxtalk freaks out during his first slump. Are you kidding me? Soxtalk will consider him a bust if he goes 0-4 on opening day.
  2. This thread is awful. There are really people that think the Sox should sign a veteran starting pitcher? I wouldn't sign one, let alone give up a draft pick and the overall draft $$ to do it. It doesn't make any sense. I am glad that Rick Hahn agrees with me and this topic has been rendered as pointless.
  3. QUOTE (IowanSoxFan @ Jan 24, 2014 -> 02:47 PM) I'm somewhere between "I like this" and "don't really care", but I don't dislike it. I agree with this. As long as Robin stops giving away so many outs I am fine with it. Stop with the sacrifice bunting in early innings and it's fine.
  4. http://www.bleachernation.com/2014/01/24/c...r-yenier-bello/ This is a Cubs article but does anyone think that the Sox may have interest in this guy? He's already 28 though.
  5. Sounds like Garza to the Brewers for 4 years $52 million. Balfour is also signing with the Rays. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/
  6. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 10:34 PM) As far as I'm concerned, this thread still involves the White Sox until I know the ballpark of what we offered Multiple baseball writers reported that every offer was in the 6 year $120 million range as a starting point. Don't know how true that is.
  7. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 11:09 AM) I think it would be better to address the rotation this year in an effort to save money. As shown by the Tanaka pursuit, it's going to be difficult to get a true top-of-the-rotation via free-agency. If Jimenez is terrible at least he'll be relatively cheap. For what reason? There is no reason to spend money on a free agent pitcher. They would have done it with Tanaka because he's 25. There is absolutely no reason to sign a Jimenez or Garza type so that the team can win 72-75 games. Unless the players acquired fit the long term plan, Hahn will not be making a deal. He has made this clear numerous times. The Sox are not planning on winning this season regardless of what they say publicly.
  8. Yeah I wanted the guy but not for 7 at $155. That's nuts.
  9. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jan 19, 2014 -> 10:28 AM) BTW does any one know if Tanaka and Kershaw have the same agent? I read somewhere they did and that Tanaka was a part of the discussions during the Kershaw deal as far as back loading his deal, with the hopes of landing Tabaka. Yes. Casey Close is the agent for both players as well as Greinke I think.
  10. I know that it's cliche around here but I am just glad that they are involved. It will come down to what Tanaka wants now. I don't want the Sox to overpay for him either. Decide how much he is worth to you and offer that amount while selling him on the fact that they have a decent young core with a good pitching staff in a big market city. That may not be enough. He may have his heart set on LAD or even Arizona. If he takes the most $$ it sounds like it will be the Cubs. Getting him would be huge but I am fine either way. I am glad that the White Sox are acting like a big market club and having the conversation at least.
  11. Ty Youngfelt ‏@TyYoungfelt 4h Hearing Dodgers unlikely to match Cubs offer, instead using geographical, team strength issues as selling points to bridge gap... Ty Youngfelt ‏@TyYoungfelt 1h As of a week ago, Yankees have lowest bid, D'Backs, Dodgers within +/- 8M of each other...hearing Yanks adjusted/matched-Cubs +20-30 over Ty Youngfelt ‏@TyYoungfelt 1h To clarify- Yankees matched D'Backs offer of 115, not Cubs offer... Ty Youngfelt ‏@TyYoungfelt 40m @MudderFudder77 Have not heard nothing on Sox, at all, have the $ tho... This guy writes for the Pioneer Press and has had info in the past.
  12. Does anyone find it strange that Viciedo was not mentioned in this hitting camp? I would assume that he'd be there with Abreu, Davidson, and Eaton.
  13. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 18, 2014 -> 01:58 PM) http://shop.mlb.com/category/index.jsp?cat...pnav_subnav_txt Click the link. Castro is on there. I don't want to read too much into it but that is really strange.
  14. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jan 17, 2014 -> 09:49 AM) Its obvious neither one of you bothered to read Paulstars post. Ethier is a platoon player. He shouldn't play vs LHP ever. I just think this board is funny sometimes. People hate Dunn but they advocate for acquiring guys like Granderson and Ethier. Ethier would be fine for a couple years against RHP but our manager would not use him properly and he would still cost too much for a platoon. Let the young guys play.
  15. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 11:13 AM) I don't follow your thought. They'll get rid of Flowers if they can't acquire Nieto outright. What am I missing here? If they keep Nieto he has to stay on the roster all year. Meaning it would most likely be He and Phegley. Flowers would have to go. If they could acquire Nieto rather than using him as a Rule 5 selection, they could send him to the minors and keep Flowers if they wanted to.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 10:29 AM) There are some nice names. A couple I can't see leaving, and the others if they have great years are probably going to cost more than Tanaka now, and they are all several years older. Yeah I think that Shields, Masterson, and Bailey will all reach FA. Lester will probably re-sign with Boston.
  17. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 09:13 AM) Stark hasn't tweeted anything about the cubs being interested in 20 hours. And at that point he said 2 baseball execs said don't count out the Cubs. Doesn't really seem going hard. As for the Angels the GM came out and said they didn't even meet with Tanaka when he was in LA. All this is nonsense till he signs. Tanaka will not sign with the Cubs, there is nothing there for him other than money, and from what is said about his competitive drive he isnt going somewhere to lose at least 80 games for the next three years. As for the Angels, they do not have they money. Not with the contracts given out the past few years and with Trout being due what may be the largest contract in MLB history. No he hasn't but Rosenthal tweeted about big interest from the Cubs about a half hour ago.
  18. QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 08:51 AM) Rangers are looking for left-handed starting pitchers. The only way I see us getting back into the Tanaka sweepstakes is if we can work out a deal with the Rangers and free up some cash. The Sox don't need to free up any cash though. They aren't going to find more money to pay Tanaka more. They have most likely decided as much as they would pay and if it gets higher than that they will be out on him. If the bidding gets crazy (which it will) they will probably bow out.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 15, 2014 -> 07:30 AM) You think they're going to send him back? No. I think he makes the team if they don't do anything else.
  20. QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 12:38 PM) Need pitching, but sign Edwin Jackson and trade Garza, Dempster while trying to trade Samardzija Would you sign those guys? The Jackson signing was questionable but trading Garza and Dempster was smart. Older guys that won't be good when Cubs are ready to win. I'd trade Samardzija as well because he's overrated, is 29 already, and wants a ton of money. This argument is lazy.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 02:11 PM) Chuck Garfien ‏@ChuckGarfien 36s Abreu is taking part in a White Sox hitting camp in Glendale joining the likes of Eaton, Davidson, Thompson, Anderson, etc. Jared Mitchell and some others there as well with Robin Ventura and Todd Steverson.
  22. QUOTE (dayan024 @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 11:28 AM) Daryl Van Schouwen ‏@CST_soxvan 1h Industry source suggests Tanaka price tag to hit $140M. Reinsdorf's absence at meeting suggested warm, not hot #whitesox interest So Jerry Reinsdorf was or was not there? I have seen conflicting reports.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 09:36 AM) Two big reasons why the plan isn't working you kind of went right around. The first guys up are regressing, and they have no pitching in the system what so ever. They are also being handicapped by the new spending rules, both in the draft and internationally, which is what Theo was best at exploiting. The other one they closed on him is all of the comp picks the BoSox used to get. Add on top of that, Cub fans are FINALLY getting sick of losing, and that is recipe for a long time of problems. I think we are only seeing the tip of the iceberg on the northside. For every optimistic Cub post about how they have all of these guy in the minors who can help them, it is just as easy to point to the 2000 White Sox minor league system with the obvious caveat about how many of these guys WILL fail, not can fail, not might fail, but WILL FAIL. CJ Edwards and Pierce Johnson are both good pitching prospects. You are right that it isn't nearly enough though.
  24. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 08:46 AM) To me, that's burying the lead. That's a major, major issue that isn't magically fixed. Also, the Rizzo and Castro regressions have to be of some concern. Obviously one regressed year doesn't spell doom for a propspect, but until there's a bounce back it has to be a concern. Obviously it's a big concern. But they don't expect to win yet regardless. Their fans shouldn't either.
  25. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 13, 2014 -> 07:18 PM) I watched Wilson back when he was at NC State. Ive never seen you post in the college football thread, so it doesnt really jive. Its odd that you say "I adore Wilson", when I barely even post about him. Wisconsin had really good WRS??? It had Nick Toon and Jared Abberderis, seriously just quit acting like you actually have watched Wilson more than just in an espn montage. T And what do you mean "like Andrew Luck", in what season in the last 3 years has he: A) Won more games or B) had a better qb rating Than Wilson? Ill hang up now while you continue to slurp Luck's penis. I get your a Luck fan boy, but s*** the guy threw 7 ints in the last 2 games, that isnt something to write home about. And Im not sure if you can really say that Luck hasnt had better wrs either, I mean TY Hilton, Reggie Wayne, or Golden Tate, Sydney Rice and whatever other cluster. I already said that I thought Luck was a better pure passer than Wilson, so it really sounds like youre the one who is idolizing, because its lunacy to put Luck in the category of Manning or Brady. Badger, I agree that Wilson is good. He's not better than Luck though. Luck is going to be the best QB in the NFL 5 years from now.
